Destiny 2 - dmg04
This week at Bungie, Guardian Games is coming to a close, and we’re but days away from a new Season.

That’s right Guardian Games is nearing its end. Warlocks are dominating as of this writing. Will they hold on for their first Guardian Games victory? Only time will tell. Actually, not true—our social media channels will also tell. And you might be able to do the math by visiting the podium in the Tower, as they might have such a commanding lead that Titans and Hunters couldn’t possibly catch up to their space magic.

We’re just a few days out from a new Season. We’ve covered quite a few systematic changes coming to Destiny 2. Sandbox changes, ritual reputation changes, and a few other details on how gameplay in general will be updated. Many of you (and when I say many, I mean almost every single one of you) have been asking about the new stuff. What is Season of [Redacted] all about? What’s the next challenge our Guardians are about to face? What’s going on with [Redacted] and their [Redacted]!? Where’s the trailer?! Which subclass is getting the 3.0 treatment!?!

There will be a day where many of your questions will be answered, but today is not that day. It’s a scary, but fun, balancing act in the grand scheme of things. I’ve said it before, but player discovery is one of the most potent things in gaming. Do we spill the details in TWABs and tweets, or do we hold things a bit closer to the chest with each Season to let players dig in on day-one and find out some cool things in the game itself?

If you’d like to go dark, this should be one of the last Bungie communications you read before Tuesday at 10 AM Pacific. If you’d like to get a quick taste before launch, tune in a bit earlier on Tuesday morning and keep an eye out for a countdown for our next trailer.

So, what will be our final TWAB before launch? We’ve got some details on how Seasonal Events will be evolving, a quick spoiler free patch note preview, a rundown on when our next dungeon is going live, and a preview of upcoming Trials of Osiris armor sets. Keep an eye out for our Player Support section too, as we’ll be breaking down the timelines for Destiny 2 Update 4.1.0 (which kicks off Season of [Redacted] on Tuesday)!

This week at Bungie, we think it’s time we talk about Iron Banner, check out the new PvP Map, and show introduce the Cosplay Cosmodrome. Trust us, it’s really cool.

Lord Saladin continues to show why he has the mettle to inspire the likes of people like Zavala. His inner strength has once more become a vital part of the evolving Destiny 2 narrative, and the team thought that it was high time that his Iron Banner event reflected his resurgence in the story. That, and Rift is back, baby, alongside a brand-new map! We also have a nifty new initiative we’re calling Cosplay Cosmodrome, and an update from our specialist team that has been digging deep into the perplexing world of... emails.

But first, Iron Banner. To read more, check out the full TWAB here.

Before we get into it, we wanted to take a moment to reiterate talk about the commitment we made as a company earlier this week in response to the leaked draft decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. Standing up for reproductive choice and liberty is not a difficult decision to make, and we remain dedicated to upholding these values. You can read our full statement here.

This week at Bungie, the third annual Guardian Games have begun.

Welcome back sports fans! The Guardian Games have commenced, and Hunters Warlocks have taken the lead. But it's still early in this three-week competition and it’s anyone’s game.

The Tower is looking spiffy with decorations up and the spirit of competition in the air. There are adventures to be had and rewards to be won. Are you pumped yet? Well watch this!

On top of the overall class vs class main event, we have also assembled a friendly out-of-game competition between fireteams of Guardians from across the globe. We have creators from 14 territories representing their favorite class and competing for glory in the Guardian Games Cup. Check out the full details and keep track of the scoring each week here.

Every single Community Focus has mattered. Every single Guardian offers something unique to our community and this is our way of saying thank you for being a part of it. With our latest Community Focus, it’s going to get a little bit personal.

As a gamer with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) - a nervous system disease that affects mobility, coordination, vision, and more - and a former journalist who has covered the ways the disabled perspective and the gaming industry intersect, I've always been deeply passionate about furthering accessibility within video games. For that reason, it is my immense pleasure to introduce Grant Stoner: a writer you might have seen in some of the biggest publications in the world, like IGN and Fanbyte, that has been loud and proud when it comes to educating this space on what it means to say, “gaming is for all.”

He's also a total beast when it comes to kickin' some foe butt in Destiny 2. Learn more about his journey with our ongoing Community Focus series right here.

This week at Bungie, we’ve been heads down making sure Season 17 is poised to rock ‘n roll and recovering from that whopper of a TWAB last week. I’m not going to lie, I really struggled writing this, only because the previous one by DMG dropped lots of solid info about sandbox changes, weapon tweaks, and more. This TWAB will be less extensive, but we hope you enjoy what we’ve got lined up to talk about this week. That, and we still have a few surprises up that proverbial sleeve, but we want to keep some aspects of what is next under wraps. We don’t want to ruin the surprise, after all.

This week, we’re talking about the return of our yearly tradition which is the Guardian Games. Each year, Warlocks, Hunters, and Titans go head-to-head to prove who is the boss (even though it’s clearly Titans). Hunters took the gold last year, so Warlocks and fellow Titans, it’s time to suit up. This year, we’re changing things up a bit.

We’ll also be talking more about Season 17 reward changes, pool rotations, and more. So, without further ado, let’s get into it. Read more here.

This week at Bungie, we seem to have written a short novel about upcoming weapon sandbox changes.

Hello, dear reader. I’d like to kick this TWAB off with a quick word of advice; never end your drafting phase with your introduction. I’ve been kicking this thing around for about 15 minutes now, trying to figure out the best way to launch you into yet another Mega-TWAB worth of sandbox information. We’ve got quite a few changes planned for next Season, and we’re excited to start spreading the word.

Let’s keep our conversation about the live game short and sweet, shall we? It’s an interesting week, to say the least! Master difficulty for Vow of the Disciple has kicked off, with just a few short weeks left before Guardians begin to claim their raid titles. Grandmasters continue to push the limits of player skill, buildcrafting, and general gameplay strategy. Iron Banner has come and gone, but Trials of Osiris returns this Friday with some light changes to the post-Flawless experience. There’s still quite a bit to do, especially if you’re trying to finish off each fresh Triumph released with The Witch Queen and Season of the Risen. All said, we’re having a good time, and we hope you are too.

Even with a solid launch in our sails, the winds of change will always catch up to Destiny. As mentioned, we’ll be talking about how those winds are shifting the sands of our weapons sandbox. Some of you know the Destiny sandbox like the back of your hands. In some cases, well enough to release a forty-five-minute video about the intricacies of Shotguns. Well, do we have some changes ready for you...

I’ve been known to recommend grabbing a drink of water and a snack for larger TWABs, and this is no different. Take this at your own pace, have a good time, and ask questions once you’re through. Our community and sandbox teams will be at the ready to issue clarifications as we can, and will follow up in future posts, TWAB’s, or other means of communication if necessary.

This week at Bungie, we talk about Rhulk finding his chill and a new way to enjoy raids and dungeons.

It really is almost mid-April already, huh? As the weeks continue to feel like they fly by in a rush for Ssummer, we’re excited to show off even more changes coming to Destiny 2 while we continue working on what the future means for our favorite space-faring heroes. In the next few weeks, we’ll be diving through some weapon sandbox changes and other topics of interest. One of the changes that we are ready to talk about now, however, is a new Rotator system for some of the more challenging activities in-game; particularly, raids and dungeons.

Ready to kick off another weekly TWABtastic celebration? Let’s dive right into it then, shall we?

his week at Bungie, we talk about pixels and the Kilts for Kids fundraising event!

Welcome to your first April 2022 installment of the TWAB. Yes, you read that right! We’re already in the fourth month of the year. Time is flying by, and we can’t help but wonder why. Maybe it’s the fact that we shipped an expansion in February, or the weekly hunts for Deepsight weapons that we’ve been embarking on. In any case, Destiny 2 keeps going strong.

Gambit Labs went live earlier this week. Invasion Swap has been getting us some great anecdotal feedback for Mote-dunking and invasion strategies, and we’re excited to see the data and feedback as it comes in. We did have a small hiccup on Tuesday where the Pinnacle reward for playing three matches was not appearing, but the team quickly issued a server-side fix to get you your just rewards. Paired with double Gambit rep, it’s a great week to complete some Seasonal Challenges for Bright Dust and earn some nice Gambit-themed rewards.

Grandmaster Nightfalls have also returned, bringing our most challenging strike content back into the fold. We’ve got a slight clarification on some patch notes back from launch dealing with Acute Burns. In Destiny 2 Update 4.0.0.1, it was incorrectly noted that these burns would not be present in Grandmaster difficulty. Acute Burns are intentional and replace the unique strike modifiers (smaller burns plus extra knockback or splash damage). The new Seasonal modifiers (invisible enemies, etc.) are not included in Grandmasters. We have updated our patch notes page to reflect. With that said, we highly recommend using some elemental damage resist mods on your chest pieces as you buildcraft for the difficulty.

Looking to next week, Iron Banner returns. While we’re planning a larger TWAB to cover upcoming changes, our one piece of advice to you this week is to spend your Iron Banner tokens, complete your Iron Banner quest, and redeem your Iron Banner bounties. We have some updates to Saladin and how he’ll be dishing out rewards, which naturally leads to the retirement of Iron Banner tokens and bounties. You have two Iron Banner weeks left to spend these tokens for rewards, including next week, so make sure to plan some time in the Tower to turn them in before the end of the final Iron Banner of the Season. Oh, and a small update from the team: we're looking to prevent the abilities bounty for our final Iron Banners before next Season. We’ve heard (and felt) the feedback that it could be a bit time consuming, so we’re shifting to focus on objective and weapon bounties for the remainder of the Season. Happy hunting!

So, what else is going on this week? We’ll be celebrating the upcoming Kilts for Kids fundraiser and having a quick “story time” about a wonderful community event that occurred last weekend.
