Seven years of Destiny. Seven years of Space Magic. Seven years of friendships we’ve made along the way. It’s still hard to comprehend how much time has passed and how much has happened since we took our first steps as Guardians. Want to take a trip down memory lane? We’ve whipped up a short and sweet article to talk about early inspirations for the Destiny universe, and a fun story from the Destiny 1 reveal.
Thank you. No, really. Without you, none of this would have been possible. We’ve come so far, and we have so far yet to go. We’ve just set off on a fresh journey to discover more about Savathûn, the Awoken, and more. Who knows what the future holds? Well, if you’ve watched our reveal of The Witch Queen... you know a little.
This week at Bungie, we travel through the Ley Lines.
Another week, another TWAB. The last four have been megaGodzillasizedTWABs leading up to Season of the Lost and the big Destiny 2 Showcase we had last week. Expect the next few to be a little lighter since the new Season is live and the game is doing all the talking.
Week two of Season of the Lost is now underway. Spoiler alert! There is a new boss awaiting you in the Astral Alignment activity and a new area to visit in the Shattered Realm. The queen of lies herself, Savathûn, is encased in her crystal sleeping bag but still whispering in your ear when you visit. She made her case at the start of the Season. Was it convincing? Did you buy it? Maybe just a little?
Tuesday was a big day. Really big. So big, in fact, that a little bit of the news ended up slipping into Wednesday. Many of you were tuned in to watch every detail as it was revealed, but there was a lot to cover. Let’s do a quick recap for the New Lights out there. Yes, you’re about to read an onslaught of links, but we couldn’t possibly cover everything without this turning into something that looks like patch notes:
Trials will be on a short hiatus until September 10, so read up if you haven’t gotten the chance.
We’ve given you all plenty to read and there’s still quite a bit to discuss over the next few months.
Let’s start with some expectation setting, shall we? During the Destiny 2 Showcase, we spoke of reworks coming to all Light-based subclasses in Destiny 2. While we showed you a small glimpse of gameplay, we thought it would be nice to talk through what that rework really means.
Mara Sov, Queen of the Awoken. It would be an understatement to say that much has transpired in her absence. Her brother, last seen lying in rest, walks among the Guardians wearing a new name; Xivu Arath’s forces rally in the shadow of the Black Fleet; and Savathûn has been revealed at the heart of the Endless Night.
And so, it is now, under the light of a long-awaited sun, that Mara Sov returns to her Dreaming City and seeks an audience with the Witch Queen.
Savathûn, the Witch Queen
Sister to Xivu Arath and Oryx, this family of gods have challenged humanity for centuries. It was Savathûn who defied the Black Fleet, even as it drove a wedge between her and her sister. Although her motive remains obscured, Savathûn’s involvement with the Endless Night demands answers.
A Doorway Opens
The crackling of energy echoes throughout the H.E.L.M. as a dark portal makes its presence known within the newly constructed Awoken wing. Master the tools found here and blur the line between technology and magic.

Ager’s Scepter Exotic Quest

Today, we had a lot to say about Destiny 2’s past, present, and future. Our game and community are thriving with new content going live right now and exciting things coming up in the near future. Below, you will find all of the trailers, videos, and info we shared today. This is your one-stop shop to find everything you need to know about The Witch Queen, Season of the Lost, and the 30th anniversary celebration. If you missed our big showcase stream today and want to watch it in its entirety, here you go.
The Witch Queen
We just gave you the first look at Destiny 2’s next expansion, The Witch Queen. Savathûn awaits in her Throne World as you will attempt to unravel her web of lies and survive the truth through a new campaign. New Lucent Hive Guardians wield the Light against you.
The Witch Queen is the definitive Destiny 2 campaign that captures the special feelings from memorable activities like Presage and our favorite Dungeons and translates them into a campaign experience. For the first time ever, you’ll have the option to turn up the difficulty and sweat it out through Legendary Mode. Your extra effort won’t just be for bragging rights: Choosing the road less traveled will earn you powerful gear and extra rewards.
In The Witch Queen, you won’t just be finding weapons, you will be making them. Crafting is coming to Destiny for the first time and it starts with the Glaive – Destiny's first and only first-person melee weapon. The Glaive is a versatile new energy weapon archetype that allows you to utilize melee combos, mid-ranged projectiles, and defensive capabilities. We’ll have more to share on the Glaive in the future, including class-specific Exotic variants with unique attacks.
The Glaive isn’t the only weapon that you’ll be able to craft. You’ll also be able to forge all of The Witch Queen and Seasonal weapons with your own two hands. Crafting is more versatile than the Umbral system and will even allow you to hunt for specific perks.
The campaign is only the beginning. The Witch Queen also introduces a new six-player activity, a new raid, and much, much, more.
This is it, the last TWAB of the Season. It’s been a blast watching Guardians splice their way through the Vex network, tackle Vault of Glass, and pile up a ton of new rewards during Season of the Splicer. We have jam packed a lot of Destiny moments since Beyond Light debuted last fall. As we prepare to look forward next week, let's take a look back at some of the most epic of Destiny moments.
We are less than a week away from the big reveal showcase. No spoilers but we have a tune-in page set up and will be streaming on both Twitch and YouTube on August 24. Seven years of Destiny have led to this moment. Join us to learn more about a new adventure unlike any you’ve encountered before. The pre-show is starting at 8AM Pacific and the showcase itself will kick off at 9AM Pacific. Come find out if you can survive the truth.
This week at Bungie, we take a pass on Exotic armors and mods.
As we get closer to launch, I can’t help but feel we should keep these introductions short and sweet. So, with that in mind, I’ll keep this to a bulleted list:
Have you played Destiny 2 this week?
Check out the Epilogue. It’s pretty sweet. No spoilers!
We have less than two weeks until our Destiny 2 Showcase.
Are you hyped? We are.
We previewed some Season 15 Champion Mods this week.
Time is flying by. We have a bit to cover. We hit you last week with a bulky sandbox update for abilities. This week, we’re focusing on Exotic armor and armor mods. Let’s get into the thick of it.
Please give the whole thread a read, but for the tl:dr crew, the main thing we want everyone to know is that we have a plan, it's going to take some time, and we are excited about the future of creating a more consistent delivery of PVP content each year.
This week at Bungie, we begin to prepare for Cross Play!
Welcome to another installment of the TWAB. We have four more of these before the August 24 reveal! Wait a second... we only have four? Including this one? Oh wow. We have a bit to get through.
Let’s start with something that’s going on in the game right now. Solstice of Heroes. Our annual Solstice event is coming to an end next Tuesday, August 3. You have a little under five days to complete your armor objectives. White glows don’t have a deadline, so if you’re still gathering orbs (and objectives), take your time. Dungeons, Raids, and Competitive Crucible objectives for the glows can be completed any time.
Still with me? Cool. Let’s start looking at the future. We hosted a beta for this a few months back, but we’re happy to share more details about an upcoming feature that players have been asking for since Destiny first arrived: Cross Play.
It’s already late July. Can you believe it? Seems like 2020 lasted about 5 years but 2021 seems to be moving along at a better rate. Who says time is a constant?
Anyway, Solstice of Heroes is going strong. Have you upgraded your armor yet? Next week is the final week of the event so go check out the EAZ and earn that armor before the event ends on 8/3. We had a lot to go over last week with a preview of ritual reputation changes coming next Season. It’s a little lighter this week but we do have some important info about the new Bungie Store and some changes to Armor Synthesis. Let’s get to it.
