Destiny 2 is having a pretty tough time with swords. Just as Bungie announce plans to rework bladed weapons entirely, a new problem emerges with swords of a more supernatural nature. Dawnblade-specced Warlocks have discovered a relatively simple exploit allowing them to burn through their super indefinitely, letting them spit flaming blades ’til the sun goes out. Brilliant, until you’re facing four of them on the other side of the Crucible. Oh.

Slash. Slash. Slash. I adore my collection of Destiny 2 swords, but they’re not exactly complex beasts. For Honor, it ain’t. It seems Bungie have also noticed this blunt angle with blades. The boffins over at sword headquarters have shared some sharp changes to blades arriving with Destiny’s next season, promising a more pointed experience when bringing a blade to a gunfight.

This Week at Bungie, we’re calling in reservations.

It’s been a wild week in Destiny 2. Inotam, Oblivion’s Triune, made their grand entrance into the Sundial. Guardians descended upon Mercury, weapons in hand, eager to protect the timeline from certain annihilation. While you’ve prevented the Psions from changing history, this isn’t the last trial you’ll face - not by a longshot.

The first three Empyrean Foundation goals have been met with haste. One billion Fractaline isn’t enough for the Foundation, and the next goal is currently in reach. Your next stop: 2.2 Billion Fractaline donations.

We knew you’d rise to the challenge, but this? This is absolutely insane. Keep that Fractaline coming. We’re seeing quite a few Guardians investing in their Fractaline futures, but many hitting the donation button to quickly earn some sweet Timelost weapons.

The final triumph for the Savior Seal will be completed once the community completes the seventh stage of this event. We’re excited to see a new title in the wild. Players will also unlock the ability to pre-order the Savior Bungie Reward pin once they have completed all Triumphs for the Seal.

Now, let’s look at the calendar. We have some beats to cover that are coming up quick, with a new Season on the way in just over a month! Head over to the full article, and you’ll find details on Crimson Days, Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.7.1.1, and a patch note preview for Season 10.

The last two big additions on the calendar for Destiny 2‘s Season Of Dawn arrived today: a new final boss in The Sundial and, more practically, an easy way to farm squillions of the seasonal weapons and get your dream rolls. Saint-14 and Osiris today launched the Empyrean Restoration effort, asking Guardians to donate leftover Polarized Fractaline to help charge the Tower Obelisk so it does… something? It’s like a Blue Peter appeal, except they’re asking you to post them crystallised time, they don’t know what’ll happen, and they’ll award you a gun instead of a badge.

This Week at Bungie, we had to fix the timeline.

Earlier this week, when we deployed 2.7.1, we discovered an issue causing players to lose various currencies. Our team immediately took action and brought the game down for maintenance while we worked to discover the source of the issue. We did this to minimize any further impact to players. We ended up doing the first-ever character rollback in Destiny’s history to ensure that no one lost any of their hard-earned materials. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused by the unexpected maintenance and appreciated everyone’s patience while we worked to get the game back online.

We’ll continue to improve our efforts to minimize issues and downtime. Even though some bugs are always going to crawl through the cracks, we’ll be waiting on the other side with a swatter.

This week, we also have a rundown of the Empyrean Foundation, going live next week.

Twitch Prime Rewards are now available in Destiny 2!
Bungie has teamed up with Twitch Prime to deliver in-game rewards to any player with an active Twitch Prime membership. Once you have your membership (if not, start your free trial here), visit this page and link your Bungie.net account to start receiving your six monthly gear drops. Each drop will contain four rewards, including Exotic weapons, Ghosts, ships, Sparrows, and weapon ornaments from previous Seasons.
The first gear drop will run from January 28 until February 25 and will include the SUROS Regime, the Coup de Main Ornament, the Skyline Flipside Exotic Ghost Shell, and the unsecured/OUTCRY Exotic ship.

When a gear drop is available, eligible players can claim the rewards here. Once claimed, follow a visual indicator to Amanda Holliday in the Tower’s hangar. Amanda will have the rewards available in her inventory. As long as you claim the rewards on the Twitch Prime page by 10:00 AM on the last day of the drop, the gear will still be available from Amanda after the deadline.
Still have questions? We have a Help article with more details on how everything works.

Last night’s new Destiny 2 patch had the unintended consequence of deleting many players’ hard-ground cash and upgrade materials, causing Bungie to take the MMOFPS offline for nine hours while they fixed it. Their solution was to roll characters back to their state before the patch, which has the unfortunate side-effect of wiping out everything players did between the patch launching and the emergency maintenance started. A big mess right there. Some players report they still have things missing after the rollback.

The Corridors of Time have been charted. Guardians from around the world took on the monumental challenge of navigating time itself, some losing their minds in the progress. We’d never shipped a puzzle of this size before, and watching the community engagement was a thrill in itself. We’ve seen a few requests for commentary on the creation and development of this puzzle. As always, we’re happy to invite you behind the scenes and share some of the thinking that goes into the experiences you play.

This week, we’ve also got a rundown of performance issues that are currently under investigation, and another patch note preview for Destiny 2 Update 2.7.1. Hit the link for more!
Destiny 2

How do you start the Destiny 2 Bastion quest? It’s time again to chase another exotic weapon in Season of Dawn. For those not keeping up, Bastion has been released early through the mysterious Destiny 2 Corridors of Time and a rather enigmatic puzzle. Thankfully the community put in the legwork for you and Saint-14 will now dispense the quest without the need to decipher those Destiny 2 codes, following the January 21 reset.

In a first for fusion rifles, Bastion slots perfectly into your primary slot and over-penetrates shields through its perk without a specific energy type. While it’s a little too powerful for dealing with the riff raff of PvE, it might just be the primary Fusion Rifle you’ve been waiting for in PvP: each shot fired releases three bullets, which makes it that bit more appealing if you can control your recoil. Sounds pretty interesting, eh? Here’s how to get Bastion in Destiny 2.

How to complete the Destiny 2 Bastion quest

Speak to Saint-14 in the Tower

As of the Destiny 2 weekly reset on January 21, this is how to start the Memento quest line that rewards Bastion. If you're really desperate to have Bastion before then, warm up your legs for a lengthy sprint through those complex Corridors.

When the quest is live, you’ll be prompted by the director to visit our dear old friend in the Tower to kick things off.

Kill five Fallen Captains or Servitors on the Tangled Shore

Now you're tasked with visiting the Tangled Shore on a clean up mission of sorts. This step can be done wherever you like, but sticking with Thieves Landing will have this step done in minutes since there are Servitor and Captain spawns close together. Talk to Spider when you're done for the next stage.

Kill Aksinikis, Bound by Honor, in The Empty Tank lost sector

The Empty Tank is in Thieves Landing, and is the closest Lost Sector to Spider. All you need clear the rooms and make your way to the coliseum type area and kill Aksinikis. Return to Spider for your next objective.

Kill 30 challenging enemies and complete ten Spider bounties and eight public events on the Tangled Shore

This step takes the most grinding: it should take about 1-2 hours to tick off these objectives. When it comes to killing 30 challenging enemies, this'll come naturally, especially if you pursue Heroic public events over standard events.

The public events can be condensed to four Heroic ones instead. While you're doing all this, pick up some Spider bounties and clear them, too. Thankfully the bounties aren’t limited to his dailies, so take on some Wanted bounties to speed things along.

Find the Trapper’s Cave grave

Now you need to venture to the lost sector in Four-Horn Gulch: Trapper’s Cave. Just as you enter, there's a blue mist that you need to inspect next to the short waterfall. Do that to finish this part of the Destiny 2 Bastion quest.

Complete the Hollowed Lair, Memento strike, and kill the additional enemy in the boss room

Now you’re on to the last enemy-killing quest step, kind of. Now, boot up a special version of the Hollowed Lair Strike from the Tangled Shore map. While in the Strike, you’ll encounter a special enemy in the boss room that you need to kill: Defiled Reysk, the Waning Light.

As the unique foe falls, you’ll be prompted to return to Saint-14 in the Tower. He’ll tell tales of how fond he was of his old weapon, but it's yours now. Hey presto, that’s you in possession of a new(ish) Bastion.

Destiny 2 - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Alice O'Connor)

After five-and-a-half days, Destiny 2 players have solved the new mystery in the Corridors of Time and found new loot. This was a huge communal effort, with innumerable hundreds of players sharing thousands of map fragments to build a route through an alien time machine. The map is ludicrously huge. The effort is remarkable. I followed the newly-revealed route this morning and can tell you the reward is, ah, well, I’ll not say just yet for people who wish to go in blind.
