Hello Experimenters,

Robocraft X Experiment 03 is now live!

Below is a full list of the new features, changes and bug fixes this experiment brings!

Levers

The lever makes its way into your Inventory!

This nifty little contraption allows Leo to manually change the direction and power of any Motors it connects to. Levers will only affect Motors that are connected via conductivity, which we’ll explain shortly! Placing a lever on a block, or even directly on a Motor, will automatically link them together.

While the Lever is in the neutral position, no power signal will be sent out, which means all connected Motors will remain ‘off’ and not consume any power. Moving the Lever into the ‘+’ position will send a positive signal out, causing connected Motors to spin forwards. Likewise, pulling the lever to the ‘-’ position will cause them to spin in reverse.

The torque of the Motors can also be tweaked by sliding the lever! Moving it towards the ‘+’ ever so slightly will cause a weaker signal to be sent to the Motor, allowing it to spin slower.
The Lever is just the first of many things that will be able to control Robots in future including Buttons, Dials, Switches and even Pilot Seats.

Conductivity

Conductivity is now in full effect! Aluminium and Infinitum are fully conductive, while Rubber, Glass and Oily Cubes are not. These can be used to split which Levers power which Motors.

Batteries will only provide power to Motors that share the same conductivity cluster and Levers will only affect Motors in the same way, so if non-conductive materials stand between them and a Motor, the Motor will remain unpowered. This means that there will need to be a clear path of connected, conductive materials leading all the way up to the Motors they need to power.

New Parts

Sliced Cube, Slope, Corner, Pyramid Segment, Rounded Sliced Cube, Rounded Slope, Rounded Corner, Cone Segment, Cylinder, Sphere, Lever. All of which can be found in the Inventory (accessible with the hotkey ‘Q’). These new parts open up a world of possibilities!

New Materials

Aluminium - Lightweight conductive metal. Mass: Light. Friction: Standard. Bounciness: Low
Rubber - Bouncy, grippy and non-conductive material. Mass: Standard. Friction: Very High. Bounciness: Very High
Oily - Standard metal covered in a slick, oily, non-conductive substance. Mass: Standard. Friction: Very Low. Bounciness: Very Low
Infinitum - Immovable, conductive construction metal. Mass: N/A. Friction: Standard. Bounciness: N/A
Glass - Tansparent and non-conductive material. Mass: Standard. Friction: Standard. Bounciness: Standard

Unified Texture System

On top of these new materials and parts, we’ve set up a beautiful unified texturing system that seamlessly merges the material across all combined shapes! This will allow for much cleaner, smoother looking builds.

Hello Experimenters!

We have just released a hot fix to two issues that players had while trying out Experiment 02! The fixes are below:

Fixes
  • Players who were unable to access any parts in the inventory menu or hot bar, are now able to access them.
  • Fixed an issue where players who previously had the Inventory issue mentioned above, would then have parts dismantle while entering simulation.

I'd like to thank the several players who contacted us over this time to work with us on solving the issue by providing player logs, DXdiags and testing out a few builds we created to try and nail down what the cause of this issue is.

Pilot Seat
Our art director Ric shared the first render of a new pilot seat over on our Reddit and Twitter social channels. Just in case you have not seen it yet, we thought we'd share it here!

What do you think the number on the back of the chair means?

Twitch Stream Today
Chris will be streaming on Twitch later today to show off new shapes and materials. If you'd like to join him, do make sure you follow our Twitch channel from the link below and tune in at 16:00 UTC+1 on 07/06/2019 (that's later today!)

Hello Experimenters!

We've just released a new update to RobocraftX which adjusts the properties of the Medium Motor and Tyre. This should make Medium Motors much more powerful than their smaller counterparts! In fact, check out a comparison below!

Medium Motor changes
We felt that the Medium motor was a little too weak. So instead of the medium motor being just 1.5 times more torque than the small motor, we bumped that value up to make the medium motor have 4 times more torque than the small motor!

As a result of these changes, the Medium Motor will drain batteries 4 times faster than the Small Motor

Tyre changes
We also felt that the tyres were too bouncy and did not meet the expectations for grip. So we made them less bouncy and then increased the friction just a little bit so tyres should now perform much better!

Thank you to everyone who has played Experiment 02 so far! Do let us know what you think by leaving a review, or sharing your creations with us!

Hello Experimenters,

The time has come, Robocraft X Experiment 02 is now live! the downlaod should start automatically, but if the download doesn't start, please try to log out and back in to Steam or verify the integrity of the game cache.

We've created a handy little video of many of the core additions in this build:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA1dKchd6fQ

Experiment 02 will let you play as Leo, our intrepid astronaut who will create incredible machines with your help! In addition you can also explore a new map, this is still very much a work in progress and may be populated with scenery in the next experiment.

A highly requested part has also been added to the players inventory, the Tyre!

We’re also increasing the amount of blocks and cubes that you’ll be able to place within the world. We hope this will allow for more creativity and some incredible machines to be built.

Medium versions of the Hinge, Axle and Motor are also added in Experiment 02.

The other notable adjustment to this build is the ability to use the command console. You’ll be able to adjust gravity and clear all blocks in the environment.

There are also a few other additions and adjustments to this build and a full list can be found below!

Additions

  • Tyre Part
  • Medium Hinge Part
  • Medium Axle Part
  • Medium Motor part
  • Inventory menu (Press Q to open and close the inventory. Drag and drop parts onto your hot bar)
  • Leo Character
  • Sound effects for Leo (jumping & running)
  • Command Console & Commands. Use the following key to activate: /
  • First iteration of the background environment

Changes

  • Running is now activated by double tapping forward or using the Ctrl key
  • Crouching is activated by pressing the shift key
  • A character jumping on a rotating platform, should no longer prevent the platform from rotating
  • The camera will fade out when the camera gets too close

Fixes

  • Parts should no longer vibrate when idle
  • Player momentum now resets when leaving simulation mode

  • Addressed an issue where builds that use motors would be capable of self propulsion, when in reality, they should not be capable of such terrifying sorcery!
  • There will no longer invisible collisions under the player spawn

Thanks for all of the support so far and for joining us on this journey! If you want to support the development of Robocraft X further, please share it with your friends and leave a review on Steam. This all really helps us continue to develop the game further and make the best game we can!

We’d like to thank everyone for the overwhelming response to our first playable prototype! Over 1,000 of you have tried out the game and we’re looking forward to building a game WITH all you!

If you’ve played the prototype you’ve probably noticed that you controlled a floating pill with a backpack which has been named by the community as WIP!

WIP was never meant to be the final character design for Robocraft X, but we salute their valiant efforts in helping us to release the first playable prototype. They will be decommissioned in the next experiment and we hope you all join us in bidding this hero of the prototype a fond farewell.

A new hero emerges
Characters play a very important role in RobocraftX. Players will be able to select a character that suits their style, mood and tone when playing with others online. Additionally, characters will be able to even use levers to operate parts of a machine manually. And of course, they’ll be able to hop into a pilot seat and drive a user created machine!

Experiment 02 will see a brand new character take over from the legacy that WIP created. But he will not be the only one, there will be many more and some may even be designed by the community.

Please allow us to introduce the intrepid adventurer and master constructor, Leo!

Unlike WIP, Leo has several appendages which means he can run around using his own legs! But he’ll also lean when running diagonally too!

Leo will be available as the playable character for Experiment 02!

Community Created Characters

We are big supporters of user generated content and while we will be creating new characters for RobocraftX, we’d be very interested in seeing if the community has an interest in creating their own characters and releasing them via Steam Workshop.

Would you be interested in not only changing the way the model looks, but the movement, emotes and even sound? If this is something you’re interested in, let us know what you’d like to adjust and what tools would help you to create your very own characters.

Do let us know what you think of Leo and community created characters in the comments below! Thanks for all of your support so far and thank you to everyone who has left a steam review!

We can’t wait for you to play as Leo in Experiment 02!

Live Stream
Josh, James and Chris all played a version of RobocraftX on our Twitch channel, but we uploaded an on demand video on Youtube which you can watch below, The stream starts at about 22 minutes in!
