We've got a smaller update this week as we focus on polishing the current Daily Challenge release on the beta branch - we've probably got just a week or so before we're ready to roll that out on the main branch.
In parallel, we're continuing to work on the next content update, which will add Rose (a new hero), which is the final major milestone before the 1.0 release! We're also starting work on the mobile port, which will release at some point after the initial Steam 1.0 release.
One notable feature we added in this update is a 'data export', which will allow Steam players to copy over their progress to mobile. That way, players that own the game on both platforms will be able to hit the ground running Day 1 of the Mobile release with all of their progress unlocked!

We've got a fun updated for you this week with a lot of big changes, as well as commonly requested quality-of-life improvements!
Mischief Gets Reworked
One common feedback is that Mischief is more difficult to play than the other heroes. Most of this stems from her starting perk, Riffraff, which reduces her base attack by 1. Mischief is really fun when one-shot KO'ing enemies from stealth, but suffers quite a lot when the board is full of monsters. This has been a difficult perk for us to balance and we didn't want to disrupt the stealthy flavor of Mischief.
What we've done is added an additional rule to Mischief's starting perk that removes the base attack penalty while there are a lot of enemies on the board.
Starting Perk rework
Riffraff Gain [stealth] when attacking [solitary] enemies. -1 base attack unless [Overwhelmed]
New Keywords
Overwhelmed: This triggers when there are 6 or more enemies on the board Solitary: An enemy that's the only enemy in its row
The end result is that Mischief can still one-hit KO enemies while in an advantageous board state, but when she's overwhelmed with enemies, can shift to a stance that makes her more resilient.
We hope this change helps bring Mischief's difficult more in line with the other heroes and makes her more fun to play in difficult situations!
Poison Rework
Not a major rework, but poison now triggers *before* you attack (applies to enemies as well). We got a lot of feedback that poison didn't seem fun or impactful as Mischief, and we think that making poison trigger before an attack can help to make it more a lot more powerful. Now when you strike a poison enemy from stealth but can't quite finish them off, they'll die to poison before they get to attack!
Let us know what you think of the change!
Quality of Life Improvements
Choose your rewards in any order
Another common feedback is that players want more knowledge of the upcoming dungeon *before* choose the tile rewards and perks. To that end, in this update, we're introducing a screen that shows info about the upcoming dungeon - including how many of each enemy type - and you can choose your rewards in any order.
What's left in the dungeon deck?
Players have also asked for some way to see what tiles are remaining in the deck while in the dungeon. When tapping the 'next tile' preview to see the description of the next tile, we've added a 'deck' button in the lower right. Tapping that will allow you to see all the tiles still in the deck, which should hopefully allow players to better plan their strategy for completing the dungeon.
That's it - for now!
That's all we have for now! We're listening to Steam, Reddit, Discord, etc... for your feedback on all these changes, and other ideas for improvements. If you have some ideas, don't hesitate to share!

Today, we're launching the Mutation Update on the beta branch! (Anyone can opt-in to the beta branch. If you're interested, check out this post on the Steam forums.
Introducing Mutation Mode
The Mutation Update adds a set of wacky mutations to the game, playable in Mutation mode. When you start a new game, you'll now be given the option to completing a standard run (the same gameplay you're used to) or Mutation mode, where you'll pick a Mutation before starting out. There are a bunch of different mutations, each one changing the game (sometimes in significant ways!)
What are mutations?
Each mutation tweaks a bunch of rules of the game, resulting in a very different experience. In the Dungeon Crawler mutation, you start with weapons, armor and an ability, but have no deck at all. Instead, enemies drop tiles for you to acquire once you've defeated them.
The Sealed Deck modifier starts you out with 15 tiles in your deck and before you start, you have to trim down your deck to just 10. You also start with a second hero's perk and discover cards from their class as well.
Like many good games, different game modes (called 'mutations', in the flavor of Krumit's Tale) help keep the game feel fresh and interesting, challenging players to evaluate cards and play styles they're familiar with in a new light. We hope players enjoy trying out the game with these new mutations and we plan to add additional mutations as time goes on.
Got ideas for Mutations you'd like to see? Let us know on the Steam forums!
Daily Challenges
Daily Challenges are another new way for players to experience the game. Each Daily Challenges features a set mutation for that day, with a random hero. All players will get the same random 'seed', ensuring that all the random decisions (the journey of the hero, the perks offered, the shop items offered, etc... ) are the same for all players. After completing your run, you'll get a score and it'll be shown on the daily leaderboard. You can check back once the challenge is over to see your final rank.
Enjoy!
We hope veteran and new players alike enjoy this fresh take on the gameplay of Krumit's Tales! We'll be keeping an eye on player feedback on Steam, Reddit and Discord over the next couple weeks and tuning the new mutations as necessary.

IMPROVEMENTS
It's now possible to 'cancel' the replace tile screen when acquiring a tile in the dungeon. It doesn't work in some circumstances (for instance, summoning minions) but should hopefully mitigate a lot of painful cases when players accidentally picked up a tile with a full inventory
BALANCE
#465 - Special NG+1 modifier for Muldorf "Your max deck size is -1"
The Toxic Blood rebuff in the Sanguine Grotto now reduces healing by 1 instead of cancelling it completely
Nukromancy Robes reworked. Cost reduced 2->1. Now reads 'While this is in your inventory, the cost to summon minions is reduced by 1"
BUGS
#447 Ancient Tome can now copy *any* tile acquired during the dungeon, instead of only tiles that were acquired after the Ancient Tome was created
#450 Shinobi Headband no longer triggers unless its active
#459 The attack bonus for minions from the Ventriloquist perk is now properly set after resuming a game
Soul Burst now has flavor text properly set
Cardoso's Chapeau no longer triggers if it's not active
Fixed a bug where selecting/de-selecting an item quickly would cause an 'arrow' to get stuck on it
Updated some strings in the Chinese version
When a crash that occurred on the 'Defeat' screen when the language was set to Spanish
One of my favorite streamers, @Esty8nine, is streaming the new Krumit's Tale update this Thursday, April 23!
Esty was one of the earliest streamers of Krumit's Tale and his community, the Misfits, was immediately welcoming. He keeps the stream interesting with an engaging and funny personality, along with a genuine love for his community.
The focus of Esty's channel is indie games, and it's a great way to learn more about games you'd otherwise miss. He also has a real knack for grasping game mechanics and reasoning through the game design design. Early on, Esty quickly got the hang of Krumit's Tale and provided lots of invaluable feedback and bug reports as he played through the game on stream.
What better to celebrate such a fun community than by immortalizing Esty with an exclusive in-game portrait in Krumit's Tale?
Muldorf - a friendly necromancer and Meteorfall fan favorite - joins the cast of heroes in Krumit's Tale! Like the other heroes, Muldorf plays very differently. In particular, Muldorf summons skeletal minions to do his bidding. He also manipulates his health. Many of Muldorf's items and abilities have different effects at low health, and he also has a bunch of different ways to restore health as well with Lifesteal.
How do minions work?
One of the trickiest parts about the development of Muldorf was figuring out how minions would work. We went through multiple designs before settling on the current design. The key is Muldorf's starting perk, called 'Necrodude'.
Whenever Muldorf slays an enemy, they leave behind a Tombstone. You can pay 3 health to remove the Tombstone from the board and 'summon' a Skeleton minion, which is added to your inventory like an item or ability.
The basic Skeleton minion you can summon has 2 attack and 5 health, and can defeat many basic enemies on it's own. When you select a minion, it swaps places with your hero in battle. It deals damage just like your hero, and takes damage in place of your hero. Experienced necromancers will recognize the value of sending it a poor skeleton to take a big hit in their place!
Although most of the minions you summon are basic Skeletons, you can also summon Ancient Skeletons and Garbage Golems. It's also possible to buff the attack and health of your minions to make them stronger or more resilient.
New Boss, New Enemy
Besides adding a new hero, this update also adds a new dungeon, The Sanguine Grotto. The Sanguine Grotto features a new boss: Cardoso - a vampire and well-known associate of Muldorf. The dungeon also features the Wasteland Thug, a poisonous new minion that introduces a new 'Wound' mechanic
Carodoso and a Wasteland Thug - denizens of the Sanguine Grotto
Limited Time Sale!
This week we're doing a limited time sale in Krumit's Tale, as well as our iOS / Android game, Meteorfall: Journeys. Meteorfall is our first game and takes place in the same universe as Krumit's Tale, featuring many of the same characters. Like Krumit's Tale, it's card-based deck builder roguelite kind of game.
In addition to this release of Krumit's Tale featuring Muldorf and Cardoso, we're releasing an update for Meteorfall that adds Cardoso as an alternate skin for Muldorf, as well as a bunch of new cards, inspired by new abilities we added in Krumit's Tale. If you haven't checked out Meteorfall: Journeys before, this is a great opportunity to pick it up at a discount. Once this discount is over, the price will be increasing again as outlined in our Early Access overview. We've added a ton of new content to this release and we think it justifies the price increase. Buying early is a great way to support the game and get a great deal as well!
We wanted to do something really fun with content creators to celebrate this new release. We approached Esty8nine, one of the earliest streamers to check out Krumit's Tale. We instantly fell in love with his engaging personality and his supportive fanbase, the Misfits. What better way to honor Esty8nine than by putting him in the game?
Esty8nine is a fantastic streamer that covers mostly indie titles. Most recently, he's been streaming a lot of One Step From Eden & Slay the Spire - titles that fans of Krumit's Tale will no doubt be familiar with.
The only way to get this portrait is to tune into Esty's stream when he streams Krumit's Tale! Esty has a code that he can share with his fans. You can enter that code in-game in order to unlock the portrait. This is a cosmetic reward and won't impact gameplay at all.
You can see the portrait in the background, to the right of Krumit
We hope you'll love unlocking the portrait and enjoy watching Esty8nine as much we do! Follow Esty8nine on Twitch, Twitter or YouTube to find out when he's streaming Krumit's Tale!
We're not stopping here! We're already hard at work on the next update, will implement Daily Challenges. Daily Challenges present the same dungeon and random choices to all players, providing a fair playing field to compete. Player's will be able to compete for a daily high score and see how they stack up compared to other players.
Daily Challenges will also feature a set of modifiers that change each day. Sometimes you might have a deck consisting of only treasure chests; other days, you might get a special starting perk or other twist. We think these unique and interesting daily modifiers will help keep the game fresh and interesting, even for veterans of Krumit's Tale.
We anticipate the initial beta release of Daily Challenges will be available in the next couple weeks.
Finally, we've begun prototyping the final hero that we plan to add before exiting Early Access - Rose. Rose is cleric / healer character, with a dangerous dual personality. Although she's best known as a priestess, Rose also dabbles in the dark arts - often with cosmic consequences. Once Rose is polished, we plan to finish the homestretch towards the 1.0 release.
Last week, we released a patch with a bunch of new tiles for Muldorf. One of those tiles was The Necrotome! - a powerful book that allowed players to draft abilities that buffed their minions. It turned out that the power level of this tile was a bit too strong, and as a result, players were able to easily steamroll dungeons without really trying as Muldorf. This doesn't fit the flavor or theme of Muldorf, and so we've had to reign in the power level of some of these tiles.
Bringing Krumit's Tale to More Languages
Some of you might have seen our announcement earlier this week about translating Krumit's Tale into more languages. Our goal has always been to make Krumit's Tale to accessible to players around the world, in their own language.
We started with our Simplified Chinese translation a few weeks ago from our publishing partner, Indienova. This week, we're opening up a project on http://localizor.com. Localizor.io is a fantastic tool that we love that provides support for community translations of games. Translators earn credit when they translate that can be spent for games. We've already made some great progress on Spanish, German, and Russian, thanks to the amazing support from the Localizor community.
How do I get involved? If you're interested in getting involved, sign up on Localizor and check out our community translation project. If you're not interested in translating but are fluent in another language, another way you can help is to up vote translations on Localizor. That helps improve the quality of the translations overall and lets us know that we're on the right track.
We've also set up a #localization channel on our Discord which you can use to make suggestions or chat with the folks that are helping out with the translations. If you do help out, please make sure to let me know how you'd like to be credited in the credits.
As languages are completed, we'll make an announcement about it on Steam and let players know that the game is now playable in another language.
Note: On the beta branch, the Tier 6 dungeon (2nd boss) is currently locked to the new dungeon, Sanguine Grotto. The following bosses won't randomly show up for the next few weeks, to help ensure more testing on the Sanguine Grotto / Cardoso: Ghost King, Elmer, Itchitah
BALANCE
We had to make some changes to a set of tiles - Hearty Bones, Soul Feast and The Necrotome! - which made building powerful minions too easy. Part of the issue was that minions, unlike weapons, have no durability. Players also start with Hearty Bones, which provides an easy way to quickly buff minion attack to 4 and snowball from there.
We made getting The Necrotome! a bit more difficult. On top of this, we're swapping the effects of Hearty Bones and Soul Feast. Providing an easy way to buff minion attack in the starting deck makes things a bit too easy. Minions were always meant to be more of an expendable ally for Muldorf - not something that could steamroll the entire game on their own.
HEARTY BONES: No longer increases attack; increases health by 3 (old Soul Feast effect)
SOUL FEAST: Now Increases attack and health by 1 (old Hearty Bones effect)
THE NECROTOME!: Uncommon -> Rare, Cost 2->4. Harvest removed as a choice (replaced with Skeleton Party) Art updated
WASTELAND THUG: Small damage buff

#422 - REAP: Fixed a bug where this ability was not doing any damage and not healing the player
#425 - RUN HISTORY: Fixed a bug where this screen was not shown for players on some non-English system languages
We've got a big patch for you this week! In addition to a bunch of bug fixes for issues reported by the community, we've also expanded Muldorf's tile pool with 3 new items and 2 new abilities, and added 2 new perks (one of which is Muldorf specific) These new items and abilities bring Muldorf's tile pool up to par with the other heroes.
The other change is we've temporarily locked the Tier 6 (second boss) dungeon to the Sanguine Grotto on the beta branch. This will give players a better chance to try the new content and give feedback. This means that the dungeons featuring the Ghost King, Elmer, and Itchitah are temporarily removed from the rotation. We'll probably keep it like this for a couple weeks as we get more feedback on the new dungeon (Sanguine Grotto) and the Cardoso boss fight.
Fan Art
We're in love with this great fan art of Varfa and her bear companion, Bongo, by @jouste on Twitter. For those of you who aren't familiar with Varfa - she's a hunter character in our first game, Meteorfall: Journeys (for iOS or Android). There's a good chance she'll eventually make it to Krumit's Tale as well, so stay tuned!
In the meantime, check out @jouste to see more of his work

1. Locate Krumit's Tale in your Steam library list of games 2. Right-click it and select 'Properties' 3. Select the last tab which is "Betas" 4. Choose 'beta' from the dropdown
The game should update automatically at that point. Anyone can opt-in to the beta - no code required.
All of your progress is carried forward to beta. You won't need to grind or unlock previously unlocked content on the beta branch.
It's not recommended to switch back-and-forth between beta and default branch, which may result in data loss or unpredictable results. The reason here is that upgrading to beta will upgrade your save data to the latest version. If you load new save data in a branch that doesn't have those changes, it may behave in unpredictable ways. If you do want to switch back, it's best to wait for the general release of the beta changes. Once that happens, beta and default branch will be in sync, and that would be a safe time to switch back.
