Join Ginger Prime’s New World Aeternum Fishing Classic for St. Jude Play Live at 6:00PM to 10:00PM PT on Friday, August 12. This community run event is open to players from all servers. Help a good cause while striving to reel in the most catches across three categories:
Most fish caught
Most Treasure Chests caught
Most Legendary fish caught
Host Ginger Prime will stream the event on their Work2Game Twitch channel. Check out their Discord to sign up. One winner from each category will receive a $25 Amazon gift card. There will be an additional $25 Amazon gift card given to a random viewer on the Work2Game Twitch stream, so even players less confident in their fishing skills have a chance to win for showing their support.
Ginger Prime said the event is both exciting and nerve wracking because this is his first step into streaming for charity. The idea was a culmination of his desire to give players what they want — more community led activities, make the most of the Summer Medleyfaire fishing events, and help raise money for a cause that’s special to him. His team already hit their goal of $200 and are now aiming for $400.
Fixed an issue that caused PvP Arenas and other modes to count toward Expedition run limits.
Fixed an issue that caused Open World combat music to override Expedition music.
WORLD EXPERIENCE
Notable Fixes
Fixed a handful of rare server crashes and errors.
Fixed an issue that caused World Transfer conditions to falsely report as not met. Players should now be able to use World Transfer tokens if all conditions are truly met.
Fixed an issue that caused Hidden Stashes to drop under certain circumstances. They are intended to be on hiatus and should not appear during the Summer event.
Added a speculative fix for an issue that caused far away players and objects to appear frozen. We will continue to monitor the forums to see if players are still encountering this issue after the update.
Both World and Regional transfers now have a 3-day (72 hour) cooldown after use. We will continue to monitor the results of this change to see if further adjustments are necessary.

General
We are temporarily raising the maximum daily Expedition limit from 15 to 25. Vials of Azoth have been re-enabled for use, including salvage.
Fixed an issue that prevented players from salvaging additional Azoth Vials if they were capped. It will now only let you salvage enough to put you at cap and will not over-salvage, preventing waste.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENT TIPS
HOW TO GET MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
The easiest way to get Musical Instruments is to complete Summer Medleyfaire quests:
Reach level 20 and speak to the Medleyfaire Maestro at any of the summer villages to start the quest chain.
The first quest, “A Warm Medleyfaire Welcome,” will reward you with a guitar.
Each of the following quests grant fishing rewards like the Mount-A-Catch Starter Kit, musical rewards such as sheet music, or Medleyfaire Tokens. These tokens can be exchanged at any Medleyfaire Shop for special rewards ranging from seasonal skins to emotes and housing items.
HOW TO LEARN MORE MUSIC
Each of the five instruments can play a specific set of songs. To learn more music for your favorite, you must collect instrument-specific sheet music. Some songs require 3 pieces of sheet music to unlock, while others only need one. You can find sheet music through drops, chests, the Trading Post, and Summer Medleyfaire quests.
HOW TO LEVEL UP MUSIC
Leveling up music is as simple as playing songs, but there are a few tricks to gain more XP:
Each song has a difficulty level. Play harder songs for additional XP.
Strive for perfect notes in the rhythm minigame to net more XP.
Join a group to level up quicker. Whether you play a duet or form a group of 5, you’ll earn the same bonus XP compared to if you perform solo.
Thanks for your support, and we’ll hear you in Aeternum!
New World's Summer Medleyfaire Update downtime will begin for all regions at 5AM PT (12PM UTC) on July 28. Expected downtime is 2 hours. Check out our full breakdown of the July release notes for more information on the Summer Medleyfaire, Barnacles & Black Powder Expedition, Expedition changes, Trade Skill updates, loot changes, and more. Below, you’ll find release notes for the update’s major features.
SUMMER MEDLEYFAIRE EVENT
Celebrate the Summer Medleyfaire with fishing and musical events throughout Aeternum. Summer Villages have been erected in Brightwood, Everfall, Weaver’s Fen, and Monarch’s Bluffs. Raise your reputation with the Maestro through quests like catching the famed Aeternum Sturgeon to net special seasonal rewards. You can even frame your favorite catches for your home at new Mount-A-Catch stations found in every village.
MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
Musical instruments are a new trade skill that make the world your stage. There are 5 instruments to pick up and learn, plus an initial 31 songs to collect and master! You can play solo, or as a group with up to 5 Adventurers. These musical instruments include:
Guitar
Mandolin
Upright Bass
Drums
Azoth Flute
Songs are unlocked by salvaging pages hidden throughout Aeternum. Complete the Summer Medleyfaire quests to earn a special set of pages and starter instruments. Better instruments can be crafted through the furnishing trade skill. Furnishing can also roll new music trade skill specific perks. Press the F5 key to initiate a performance. Each show will reward players with trade skill XP and various buffs. Better performances receive stronger buffs and more trade skill XP. Spectators enjoying the show will also receive a buff and can toss a coin to the performers as a tip. More buffs unlock as your trade skill XP increases. The buffs (in order of progression) are:
Decidedly Dexterous: Gathering speed increases by 75% for 30-90min.
Territorial Triumph: Territory standing bonus increases by 10%-30% for 30-90min.
All Together Now: Group character XP sharing bonus increases by 4%-15% for 30-90min.
Song in your Step: Reduces player encumbrance by 20-100 for 30-90min.
Fortune’s Favor: Gathering yield increases by 3%-10% for 30-90min.
Luck’s Labor: Gathering luck increases by 2% - 5% for 30-90min.
BARNACLES & BLACK POWDER
A dark tide rises in Aeternum with the arrival of Admiral Blackpowder and his dastardly crew! Quest givers in the Cutlass Keys settlement and the new docks on the territory’s eastern shore will be looking to offer you loot and renown for defeating the despicable evil within the new Barnacles & Black Powder Expedition — unlocking one week after the release of this update. Rumors suggest there might be an even greater power within the Admiral’s hold. Not to mention, more than meets the eye…
Expedition Mutators
3 new Mutations will also join the mutation rotation:
Icebound: Icebound features mutations that deal Ice damage, apply slow, and spawn glacial crystals with area effects.
Oppressive: Enemies gain powerful abilities like mana drains and zones of silence, which prevent ability usage for a short period of time.
Frenzied: This variant applies Curses to players that dodge. Curses stack up and deal damage over time. When Frenzied reaches 3 stacks, it detonates. This explosion deals additional damage to the player and leaves an elemental damage area of effect.

We are sorry to announce that additional testing has uncovered an issue with the Barnacles and Black Powder Expedition. The team is working hard to address the issue but this means we will be delayed in activating the feature. We apologize for this inconvenience, especially on the heels of delaying Group Finder, as we endeavor to release the highest quality of experience to you all.
This is our Expedition team’s highest priority, and we will provide an update once we are confident in releasing the newest expedition. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
EXPEDITION ENHANCEMENTS
New quality of life features have been introduced to alleviate some points of friction for our Expedition explorers.
EXPEDITION GROUP FINDER
Finding a group to run Expeditions with while solo isn’t always easy when you need to ask through chat. So we are excited to release our first version of the Group Finder tool for Expeditions! With this feature, you’ll be able to access a specific Group Finder for each Expedition (accessed through Expedition entrance UI or related Expedition map icons), browse listings created by other players, or post your own request to join other players on your server. The tool allows players to declare their preferred team role — such as DPS, Tank, or Healer — and recruit based on those roles. You can also set recruiting requirements like minimum Gear Score and level, then inspect members to learn their average GS, weapons, and mastery levels.
This feature will release alongside the new Barnacles & Black Powder Expedition.
This section was edited on 7/28:
We are thrilled to release a feature that makes it easier to group up with your fellow Adventurers to tackle the challenges that lie in New World's Expeditions. There is some additional scale testing needed on Group Finder to ensure this feature is a smooth experience for everyone. We are actively working on it and will let you know its new release date as soon as it is ready.
You can still expect the new Expedition, Barnacles and Black Powder (both normal and Mutated) and the new Mutations to release in the next weekly update.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
EXPEDITION TUNING ORB REMOVAL
We’ve removed Expedition Tuning Orbs and replaced them with daily limits for Normal and Weekly mutated Expedition runs to make all Expeditions easier to access. Players can participate in:
15 Normal Expedition runs per player per day or 105 per week, per player.
25 Mutated Expedition runs per week.
In order to honor the value you’ve put into acquiring existing Tuning Orbs, any orbs in your inventory upon the update will be replaced with caches that give loot appropriate for their Expedition. While you won’t get a full run’s worth of coin and drops, the rolls will include boss drops for weapons and armor in addition to opportunities for Expertise bumps.
For Normal Expeditions, caches will reward a roll from the sub-boss and main boss found in that specific Expedition, and grant coin equal to 50% the cost previously associated with buying that specific type of orb from the Faction Shop.
For Mutated Expeditions, caches will reward 4 boss rolls off the final boss of 4 eligible Mutators, and coin equal to 50% the cost previously associated with buying that specific type of orb from the Faction Shop.
LOOT REBALANCE
With the accessibility changes to Expeditions, we’ve moved roughly 50% of coin generated from Expedition bosses and have instead spread it out to coin drops from Elite Chests and Corrupted Breaches completion bonuses to help compensate for the reduction. Twice a day, players can loot elite chests in the open world or complete minor or major Corrupted Breaches to earn a bag of coins. Each bag contains 500 coins. Along with that, we have introduced a new method to help the player overcome the randomness of Expedition Loot. Materia is a new type of resource that can be used to craft your desired drop. There are two ways to obtain this resource. Any named item obtained from an Expedition can now be salvaged into Materia of its corresponding Expedition type in addition to receiving Materia when defeating the main boss of an Expedition.
MUTATOR LOOT SHIFT
We’ve shifted the difficulty levels at which loot will unlock. The system was originally intended to give players a sense of rewarding progression as they play through the different difficulty levels but lower levels didn’t feel particularly good due to sparse rewards. We’ve therefore changed what items unlock at which difficulty level, which should result in a wider variety of lower level rewards. In addition, we’ve also added another accessory to each Mutator. Previously, each Mutator dropped 2 of the 3 types of accessory. Now every Mutator can drop all available types.
INSTANCED WARS
Previously while one or more wars were ongoing, server performance could become degraded. This could result in latency spikes for players in the war and surrounding areas. We have rebuilt the underlying technology to improve performance.
LOOT, PERKS, AND TRADE SKILLS
PERK REBALANCE
After examining the meta and its issues regarding endgame viability, we’ve adjusted over 150 perks to help make them more useful and competitive compared to some of the best perks in the game. Skill-specific weapon perks are now more powerful, with some receiving substantial rework. We’ve also tweaked how perks are calculated, to provide players with more options for better perk combinations. For example, the trade skill drop chance on earrings now has a very low chance on drops to increase the combat focused perks players get from earrings. These perks can still be controlled via crafting, using their specific craft mods to make specific items.
LOOT QUALITY
The overall quality of drops have been improved based on player/expertise level. This means at level 60, players should earn more Epic and Rare loot instead of Uncommon loot. Epic and Legendary loot also have a higher chance of receiving more viable stat combinations (e.g. increased chances for Keen, lower chances for Beast Bane). Perks that roll are all still random for non-named items, but players should see better combinations of perks overall. We’ve also improved the chances that higher Gear Score items can drop from lower level creatures, giving a small chance 600 Gear Score items can come from level 59+.
BONUS LOOT DROPS
We feel that loot obtained from Gypsum Casts was not very rewarding, so we’ve improved the likelihood of Epic and Rare loot rolls. We’ve also reworked the range at which Expertise can be gained off these rolls. The potential bump range to Expertise has been increased for all Gear Score expertise levels between 500 - 600. In addition, Lower Expertise levels now have a higher range of potential Expertise bump to gear.
PERFECT SALVAGE
We’ve made salvaging more rewarding through the introduction of Perfect Salvages. Whenever players salvage items they will now have a chance to perform a Perfect Salvage, which can reward them with:
Research materials (such as Weapon Scraps) that can be used to gain crafting trade skill experience.
Special orbs that can be converted into gypsum casts that bypass the normal daily limit.
Materials to fabricate special items.
Other valuable resources.
TRADE SKILL CHANGES
Trade skills have been updated to reduce friction and speed up leveling for many Gathering, Refining, and Crafting trade skills:
GATHERING
Reduced Logging XP required to level from 1 to 50 by 15%.
Reduced Logging XP required to level from 51 to 200 by 20%.
Reduced Fishing XP required to level from 1 to 200 by 50%.
Reworked experience curve of first 26 levels of Fishing.
REFINING
Removed tiers from reagents (Tannins, Fluxes, Sandpapers, Weaves, and Solvents) with the goal of simplifying these into a single tier, giving potency of Tier 5 reagents to help players progress trade skills more efficiently and reduce friction of converting.
Reduced Leatherworking XP required to level from 1 to 200 by 10%.
Reduced Smelting XP required to level from 1 to 200 by 10%.
Reduced Weaving XP required to level from 1 to 200 by 15%.
Reduced Woodworking XP required to level from 1 to 200 by 15%.
Reduced Stonecutting XP required to level from 1 to 200 by 20%.
CRAFTING
Improved the trade skill XP on Tier 4 and 5 crafted items for all skills.
Reducing the trade skill XP required for Weaponsmithing and Furnishing for levels 1 to 200.
CRAFTING, GATHERING & REFINING CLOTHING
We’ve rebalanced the drop chance and locations of all trade skill clothing to better improve their availability.
Thanks for your support! We’ll see you in Aeternum.
Summer is fishing season in Aeternum. You can fish at any body of water, but what about your fishing pole, location, and bait? Learn the basics to catch bigger, rarer fish and quickly increase your fishing skill level. Fishing XP will be doubled each weekend throughout the Summer Medleyfaire Event.
Find a Fishing Pole
Fishing poles are tools used to catch fish. You can get one through crafting, trading posts, drops, and quest rewards. Like all tools, higher tier fishing poles have improved stats. For fishing poles that means better cast distance (increases from 12M on Tier I to 20M on Tier V), tension recovery (increases from 27.5 tension recovered per second for Tier I to 37.5 for Tier V), and odds of catching rare fish (125% higher fish rarity chance with Tier V).
Find the Best Fishing Hotspot
Fishing Hotspots are circular areas with ripples and jumping fish. Each one is designated as broad (1 star), rare (2 stars), or secret (3 stars). Higher rarities have less fish and longer respawn times, but far greater chances for you to walk away with rare and legendary catches. Fish vary by region (more on that below).
Hotspots either appear on your map or can be discovered as your fishing skill level increases. Trackable Hotspots look like yellow hexagons on the map, while discovered Hotspots are marked with a fish icon and their rarity.
Remember, if the game doesn’t say “Landed in Hotspot!” when fishing then you either missed or are in the wrong spot. Hotspots do not move from within those hexagons, so if nothing is there, someone may have recently used it. Check back later to take your improved chances at rare fish.
Equip the Right Bait
A fishing pole and a body of water are all you need to catch something. However, you’ll want to equip bait to catch fish in less time. There are two Freshwater and two Saltwater bait. One increases your chances of scoring a big fish, while the other improves your odds of snagging a rare fish. Remember to always equip bait (Press R to open the bait window) based on your location and desired catch.

Summer Medleyfaire Bait
Maudlinbug Bait
Catch Aeternum Sturgeons and other Medleyfaire items in any open water or Aeternum Sturgeon hotspots.
To get it, play the Maudlinbug Haze song (unlocked from the Maudlinbug Quest in the Medleyfaire Questline) at Maudlinbug Swarm Hotspots. You may have to play the song several times to get the rewards.
You can also find Maudlinbug Bait in the Special Summer Stash Twitch Drop.
How to Fish
Once you’ve gotten a fishing pole, found the right spot, and prepared your bait, it’s time to score a catch. First, press F3 to enter Fishing Mode. You’ll notice a few options like Cast and Equip Bait. Next, press R to equip your bait based on the type of water and desired catch. Finally, hold the Left Mouse button to cast your bait.
A small circular indicator will appear on a vertical line when casting. Release the Left Mouse button when the circle is at the top of the line to maximize casting distance. The farther the distance, the easier it is to reel in a fish.
You’ll then have to wait for a bite. The deeper the water, the less time you’ll wait. Bait also greatly reduces wait time. Press the Left Mouse button as soon as the game says, “Hook!” to reach the last part — reeling it in.
Hold and release the Left Mouse button at the right time to successfully nab a fish. The circular icon will grow and change from green to orange and then red. Consistently release the button when the icon turns orange for a faster catch. If you create too much tension and wait until the icon turns red, your line might break. Keep reeling until you’ve completely pulled in the fish.
How to Mount-A-Catch
Mount-A-Catch stations are a new feature in the Summer Medleyfaire update. Visit one in any village to turn your favorite catches into sentimental decorations for your house.
First, craft a Memento Stand with the following resources:
Pristine Soaked Wood (5x)
Assorted Seagrass (3x)
Cautiously Wrapped Stuffing (1x)
You can also make higher tier Memento Stands using more of each resource.
Next, to mount the fish, you’ll need whichever fish you want to mount, plus one of four types of Either Vials. Each Either Vial corresponds to a different rarity of fish, so make sure you purchase the correct one at the Summer Medleyfaire Shop.
Light Ether Vial (for common fish)
Potent Ether Vial (for uncommon fish)
Powerful Ether Vial (for rare fish)
Intense Ether Vial (for legendary fish)
Now you’re ready to decorate!
The Aeternum Sturgeon and Summer Medleyfaire Fishing
Use Maudlinbug Bait anywhere on the island or equip any bait at Aeternum Sturgeon Hotspots during the Summer Medleyfaire to catch Aeternum Sturgeons for event reputation and tokens. Tokens can be exchanged for rewards like housing items, instrument skins, armor skins, fishing pole skins, emotes, and more!
Fishing Stories Questline
There is a 15 fishing-quest chain that rewards you with gear for a more successful fishing experience. Find Michael Shields just west of the Windsward Settlement to start the first quest. These quests involve getting bait, catching fish, finding hotspots, and leveling up your fishing skill all over Aeternum. While you can start them at a very low character level, it’ll take some time to get your fishing level high enough to finish them all.
Complete the final quest in the chain (To Be a Grand Master) to earn a Legendary Pole Reward Box with one of four possible drops:
Ancient Fishing Pole
Angry Earth Fishing Pole
Corrupted Fishing Pole
Lost Fishing Pole

We want to spotlight some community forum posts before the curtain falls on our PTR Summer Medleyfaire Event. These responses helped us reflect on the next major update and laugh about Glow Toads. How did you react to the PTR? Be sure to join the conversation for a chance to be featured in future forum highlights. Let’s explore this month’s selection.
Community Responses
Blackxp - #SaveTheToads
“As it’s consistently been in the past. It’s absolutely gorgeous and the audio and music is just amazing. Seeing the festival at nighttime: the spotlights, the glow of the pyre, the floating lanterns, and the inflated Glow Toads. #SaveTheToads. I secretly want a way to shoot at the wires and free them. They look quite distressed if you zoom in on them.”
“The music skill is just a ton of fun. I expect myself to be playing for hours and jamming with friends whenever I can do it on my main account. The music itself is wonderful and the extra immersion and flavor it provides is fantastic. I want to be a traveling bard. I really can’t wait to just chill, fish, and collect all of the rewards. Maybe make a taxidermy aquarium in my house.”
“Finally, those blue fireflies. Maybe just afk with that view for hours?”
Baerserker - Unexpected Hype
“I’m positively surprised and kinda hyped for instruments. I was not expecting other content to be released besides Expeditions, weapons, etc. It would be awesome if you added more hype songs/instrumentals/tracks to fire up your group for battles and Wars. Or maybe I just haven’t heard them yet.”
Slender - Funny to Fail
“Just want to give some feedback. I made a video on the music system and I'll tell ya what AGS, you guys nailed it. I'm having a blast. I only wish there were more songs. But the music is amazing, the gameplay is fun and the sound team nailed it! When you hit a wrong note, it's so funny.”
Semi_Shot - Loving the Maestro
“I checked it out on the PTR and had to force myself to stop so I wouldn’t be burned out before it even starts. As per usual, the sound is so damn good. Whoever’s in charge needs a raise! I loved the quest guy [Maestro] in the middle of the stage. I wish I could get more quests from him. The voice over is really good, hint hint.”
“More of this por favor!“
Thasarian - Make Taverns More Immersive
“I don’t think I will use any musical instrument but I’m 100% sure I’ll enjoy listening to others play. Now please give us more reasons to hang out in a Tavern. It would be relaxing and immersive. Thank you.”
Zelthora - Savoring the Release
“I haven’t tried it (want to savor the release), but I watched my boyfriend laugh and enjoy himself with the instruments on PTR. He really liked it and I can’t wait to jump in and play instruments as well. Looking forward generally to the event and any new goodies I can get my hands on.”
Monak - Quality Crafts
“I love the objects we can craft. They add another level of activities to the event. My favorite is the mounted treasure chest! I hope that, in the future, we’ll be able to use more objects from the open world, like mounted monster trophies.”
“And of course the Maestro music at the villages! So awesome.”
Frezno - Tour the Taverns
“I’ve been having a blast with the new instrument stuff and finding random people to jam with for a few minutes. Songs are fun to play and listen to, but I don’t think they are quite difficult enough for the later difficulties. I’d be curious to see the star score somewhere on the screen while playing, so we could gauge how close we are to max stars–maybe with a score gauge that can go up and down. Also, and maybe I haven’t figured out how to do this, I’d like to be able to emote after a performance (bow, curtsy, tip my hat, etc.).”
“Overall, two big thumbs up from me. Looking forward to seeing it live so I can get some friends together and tour all the taverns as a musical troupe.”
Lily - Good vibes
“First of all thank you for adding instruments to New World. I wrote to add it a long time ago and you did! #game-feedback.”
“The music is beautiful and playing instruments is fun! I can play for hours and the buffs are a great idea! This is a very pleasing and good vibe spreading game experience.”

Our Design Team took a stylish approach to immersive characters and settings for the Summer Medleyfaire. Whether you prefer pirates or musical themes, every aspect of this celebration radiates summer fun. Let’s explore some of the team’s concept art, inspiration, and challenges.
SUMMER MEDLEYFAIRE
“The main inspiration for the Summer Medleyfaire came from modern music festivals,” said Concept Artist Andy Lee. “We wanted bright and colorful palettes to represent the excitement of summer and leaned heavily on coastal or beach motifs like bonfires, tiki torches, and grilling.”
“Overall, the creation of the environment and its various components were fun to create. There weren’t too many challenges. One of the main discussions we had when concepting this area was how we were going to take the modern idea of a music concert and fit it into a period location with more fantastical elements.”
BARNACLES & BLACK POWDER
ADMIRAL BRUTE
“For the Admiral Brute, I was aiming for a character large and grizzled that was taken over by the sea a long time ago,” said Concept Artist Allison Theus. “One of the challenges of this design was finding the right ratio of human to creature pieces in the shapes while maintaining a compact, weighty silhouette.”
THE MAELSTROM SIREN
“For the Siren, I was going for something enigmatic and deep sea feeling, and was inspired by various corals and arthropods with a bit of fish influence,” said Allison. “The main challenge here was figuring out which family she belonged to and how that translated to the shape language in her design. We wanted her to read clearly as an Angry Earth creature.”
CONCEPT ART
The Design Team also shared some additional images that provide insight into the development of the Summer Medleyfaire Event’s mood, colors, and various set pieces.
