11 years ago, Terraria was shared with the world for the first time, and 11 years later, Terraria remains our Labor of Love – a game that is like a child to us. We have enjoyed watching Terraria evolve and grow over the years and equally continue to enjoy the outpouring of support from all of you. Thank you all so very much!
We look forward to continuing the Terraria journey with you for many more years to come – be it on Terraria or other games in the franchise.
In celebration of Terraria’s 11th Anniversary, we are proud to introduce the latest addition to our Pet License roster: Town Slimes! This cast of characters is packed with personality and players will get the chance to have one Town Slime move into their towns when the Labor of Love update comes out later this year.

TERRARIA - LABOR OF LOVE UPDATE
The team has made a ton of progress on the Labor of Love update over the past month - and the finish line is in sight. Recently, we have been conducting a huge playthrough with the entire team alongside our trusty playtesters. What are we testing you ask? Well, it's a combination of all of the new stuff we added... and we are playing it on a brand new world seed that is unlike anything Terraria has seen before! What will await you in this new adventure? You will have to wait and see on that, I'm afraid. In the meantime, enjoy some Fart Kart...
Hey, quit crapping around! We have work to do!!
Want some more tidbits? Ok then fine...
So, we heard you all might like some Coral Furniture - something to really bring the beach home to your base. Feast your eyes on this!
Who doesn't love a good World Seed, right? And traps, everyone hates traps right? This one will totally scratch that itch for all you trap-haters out there.

TMODLOADER NEWS - TML TEAM
Hello everyone!
Hello everyone!
We have some definite progress this month that you will want to check out - tML will be doing monthly previews starting in April... and an update on tML 1.4 timing. Want all of the details? Read on!
April has been a big month for tML and it's looking like May will be an even bigger month. Some major mods have started the port to tML 1.4, and they have provided valuable feedback in the process. We'll start May with a focus on a built-in mod porting tool, tModPorter (thanks to Chik3r and Tomat from the community!), which will automate small code changes which have to be made in thousands of places, reducing the amount of manual effort required from modders. We ask modders to keep an eye on tML development, come chat with us in the Discord, and start porting their mods to 1.4 to be ready for when tML 1.4 launches!
As always, you can keep track the current progress and such more in real time at tModLoader/tModLoader (But note that the completion percentage doesn't mean anything, because issues and PRs don't have weights.)
PlayStation, XBOX, Nintendo Switch, Mobile - DR STUDIOS
CONSOLE/SWITCH/MOBILE CONTENT PARITY TO 1.4.3 REMAINS THE FOCUS
Parity at last! Well at least for a little while...
That's right Console Terrarians, in case you missed it, the 1.4.1 - 1.4.3 updates went live for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch yesterday! So, at least until Labor of Love comes out, all Terrarians are at parity in terms of the core content of the game. Want to learn more about what all is included in this latest Terraria update? Click the banner below to head over to the official launch thread to get all of the juicy details!
Not to be outdone, Mobile Terrarians also received the 1.4.1 - 1.4.3 update yesterday! That's right, after yesterday's events, all actively-developed platforms of Terraria are on the same content version. This has only happened once for a VERY brief time (and to be fair, Labor of Love will break it again until we can catch back up), so this is certainly a momentous occasion. Of course, once Labor of Love is out, we will begin the work to get everyone back to parity as quickly as possible.
This update also comes with official support for Mouse and Keyboard on Mobile - in case you missed that last month.
Rest assured that once Labor of Love is out, the team at DR Studios will be hard at work to once again restore parity to the world of Terraria!

March already... well almost April really?! 2022 is flying by - but we are sure glad to see Spring starting to come into full bloom and with it, a lot of the plans we have been discussing in earlier States of the Game are close to coming to fruition! 1.4.3 for Consoles and Mobile (parity... at least for a time!) is right around the corner, Labor of Love draws ever-closer, and we have a lot of exciting things to come on the community and merch fronts as well. So much has already happened this year, but we are just getting warmed up.
Let's see what is in store shall we?

TERRARIA - LABOR OF LOVE UPDATE
The team remains hard at work on a variety of Quality of Life and Balance updates alongside some other fun additions that will be coming your way with the Labor of Love update. We often get asked what we mean by "Quality of Life" updates - versus, say fixes or new features. So, we figured now would be a good time to show off one such QOL update that we are particularly happy to see added to Terraria. It is one that is a long time in coming - and one we figure will be pretty much universally popular.
What is this wizardry?!?
Simply put, we are increasing the stack size of nearly every stackable item in the game to 9999. Please note that there are some exceptions to this, but only around 10-15 which had to be kept as-is for mechanical purposes.
This is just one of the Quality of Life upgrades that you can expect once Labor of Love arrives later this year.
What else does Labor of Love have in store? When will it arrive? Well, you will have to stay tuned to find out!

The team has been almost solely focused on the various aspects of Labor of Love now that it is in full developmental swing. That said, we are quite eager to get back onto progressing our second game - which we will do once Labor of Love is done!
TMODLOADER NEWS - TML TEAM
Hello everyone!
Hello everyone!
We have some definite progress this month that you will want to check out - tML will be doing monthly previews starting in April... and an update on tML 1.4 timing. Want all of the details? Read on!
Moving forward, tML on Steam will have two different branches/betas: 'preview' and 'stable'. Most players on stable will be able to play without the fear of tModLoader updates breaking the game without notice. Each preview will be live for a month, giving modders time to update their mods and react to new changes, before becoming 'stable' at the end of the month. We encourage all 1.3 modders to come and start porting their mods to the preview next month! With some concerted effort, feedback and support, we hope to have the first 'stable' release of tML 1.4 in May, for Terraria 1.4's 2 year anniversary. For more info, come join us on Discord, and watch the collaborators and [TML 1.4 ALPHA] channels!
As always, you can keep track the current progress and such more in real time at tModLoader/tModLoader (But note that the completion percentage doesn't mean anything, because issues and PRs don't have weights.)

CONSOLE/SWITCH/MOBILE CONTENT PARITY TO 1.4.3 REMAINS THE FOCUS
The team remains hard at work putting the finishing touches on the upcoming 1.4.1 - 1.4.3 updates for Console and Mobile. We remain fully on-track as of now to get this update in everyone's hands in April. We are very close to being able to submit to all first parties for approval - but we cannot give an exact launch window yet because we do not know how long or how many review passes any given company will want. That said, we are getting close!
To tide you over, here is a little teaser of what is coming your way (with a video from Mobile this time - but everyone will be getting the same content)... watch the cursor closely.
We are, of course, aware of some of the larger remaining bits (further KB+M work, Online+Splitscreen MP, etc) - and we still plan to get to these! Thanks so much for your feedback and reporting - with your help, we are able to fine tune and sort out issues to create a better Terraria experience for everyone!
Mobile news is much the same as the news for consoles... on track for April. Repeating that here in case you skipped straight here.
Again, it is our plan to bring Mobile and Console 1.4.1 - 1.4.3 out all together, all at once (send us your positive vibes please!) - and Mobile timing will be the same as shared above: April 2022.

THE OFFICIAL TERRARIA WIKI HAS A NEW HOME
In case you missed the news, the Official Terraria wiki has moved to https://terraria.wiki.gg/! As we shared in the news post, we made this move primarily to be able to have greater creative control over the appearance, ad content, etc. of the wiki in order to bring things together in a more consistent way for the long term. As in the past, Re-Logic receives nothing (revenue, etc) from the wiki - our involvement here is strictly to maximize the experience for the Terraria fans.
So, head on over to the new Official Terraria Wiki today, update your bookmarks, and help us spread the word about the new home for all things Terraria!

Just a few days later, both the Thorium and Calamity Wikis made the move to wiki.gg as well!

The Terraria Wiki has been a valuable resource to players everywhere over the nearly 11 years(!) of Terraria's history. With so much content to explore, having such a comprehensive summary of everything at your fingertips is simply fantastic. The Wiki has undergone quite a few changes over the years from its beginnings alongside Terraria Online all the way to the current iteration run by Fandom. Throughout that time, we have been so fortunate to work with a lot of awesome partners in order to evolve and maintain a strong wiki for our fans.
The time has come for the next step on the Terraria Wiki evolutionary journey! Starting today, Re-Logic is proud to announce that we are launching a new location and partner for the Official Terraria Wiki!
Moving forward, we will be partnering with the good folks at Freedom Games as one of the first games in their newly-launched wiki network. The new URL will be http://terraria.wiki.gg/ - and you can click on the image above to head there now!
We are making this move primarily to be able to have greater creative control over the appearance, ad content, etc. of the wiki in order to bring things together in a more consistent way for the long term. As in the past, Re-Logic receives nothing (revenue, etc) from the wiki - our involvement here is strictly to maximize the experience for the Terraria fans.
Why these folks in particular? Well, at a high level, these were the actual individuals whom were responsible (with a lot of community help, of course!!!) for building the amazing wiki that we have had over the years. For example, many of you may know or recall ReedemtheD3ad! from the Gamepedia wiki days. He is on point to help run this new wiki effort with Freedom Games, so we feel like things are in good hands here!
The Fandom wiki will remain in place as a second unofficial Wiki, and on speaking to them, it is their intent to keep it up and fully operational.
So what does this mean for you, the player?
WHAT'S DIFFERENT?
Re-Logic has long wanted to further establish a more common "style"/look and feel across the various sites and ways in which our fans interact with Terraria. So, we have carried that through here by utilizing the style elements from our website and from our forums. In the future, we may explore "themes" like we have on the forums (Corruption, Crimson, Snow, etc) - but for now, we have used the base "Terraria" default theme as our basis.
Ads should be less obtrusive - we are actively avoiding some of the more problematic approaches here, which we have heard are an issue loud and clear from our community.
Ads will be "in-house", Freedom Games do not use a third party service like Google and they receive no direct revenue, they simply point to games that they publish.
Our ability to make changes - from our own ideas or from community feedback - will be exponentially higher. Simply put, we have more control now... which means so do you.
With a much closer relationship than in the past, we hope that this will mean faster updating as new content, etc. arrives.
We will be adding a link to the wiki from inside the game on PC. This already exists on Console/Mobile, but all links will be updated as soon as possible.
WHAT REMAINS THE SAME?
The starting point for the new Official Terraria Wiki will be the current form of the past wiki. You will find all of the old information there - so no need to reinvent the wheel or be worried that the important tip for how to beat that seemingly-impossible boss will be gone. We have done our best to ensure that all of that information made the journey over.
As mentioned above, the top management team of the Gamepedia wiki days are here... so there are some very familiar faces. Don't be a stranger!
The rules, etc. should be more or less the same as in the past.
The Fandom Wiki will continue to be in place as it has in the past - we do not have any issues with this, and think it will remain as a good additional option for folks.
WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU?
We need your help in establishing our new Official Terraria Wiki as the place to go for Terraria information! Make it your go-to spot, update your favorites, and be sure to link to/from the new wiki when chatting with each other about Terraria!
We need your help in editing and creating new content for the Wiki as time moves on.
Most importantly, we need your feedback! The enhanced ability to make tweaks and changes, etc. means nothing unless we are making it a better wiki for all of you. We have created a special thread here on our Forums for you to provide that feedback. Alternatively, you can join in on the discussion directly with the team over at the Official Terraria Wiki Discord. The team will be sure to read and consider everything you suggest.
That's it, everyone - we hope that this feels like a good move for the Terraria Community in the long term. Once we get through this initial transition phase, we look forward to helping to provide an amazing Terraria Wiki experience that will better serve you all for years to come! Have any questions or concerns? Leave us a note here in this thread.
In case you missed it, 2022 is certainly turning into a lovely year for Terraria! From starting the year with a pair of awards to last month's reveal of the big "parity" update for Console & Mobile Terrarians to this month's surprise sneak peek into the upcoming - and aptly named - Labor of Love Update for Terraria, how can you not love all that is going on in the world of Terraria right now? Of course, we couldn't do any of this without the love and support that you show us each and every day. So thank you, once again and we love you all!
Now... on with the show!

TERRARIA - STEAM DECK UPDATE (1.4.3.3)
With the Steam Deck officially launching yesterday, we pushed out our Steam Deck Optimization Update in parallel. This update contains both changes targeted towards Steam Deck and non-Deck players. The changes outside of the Deck stuff are mostly focused on bug fixes and some quality of life/balance tweaks. Bigger changes are coming down the road in the Labor of Love Update (for more information on that, keep reading!). For a full set of notes on the Steam Deck Optimization Update, check out the dedicated link below!
In case you missed the big reveal a week or so ago, renowned Terraria influencer/content creator/all around superstar and great guy ChippyGaming had a world exclusive reveal of the upcoming Labor of Love Update for Terraria. Rather than go over all of that again, why not re-share the reveal video AND a follow-up video that delves deeper into some spoiler-y goodness that has been revealed since!
...and seriously, if you have not subscribed to Chippy's channel, you need to get on that immediately!
Oh... and our resident QA expert Leinfors shared this little goodie on Twitter earlier this week:
What else does Labor of Love have in store? When will it arrive? Well, you will have to stay tuned to find out!

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON?
Well, besides some good-natured fun with our Twitter locations (just keeping you all on your toes) and work on Labor of Love, we remain in the planning stages for our second game. What that might be and so on and so forth will be shared in due time, but likely not any time soon.
TMODLOADER NEWS - TML TEAM
Hello everyone!
The TML Team remains hard at work as we inch closer and closer to getting this thing done! We saw some notable performance improvements this month, but the big feature we're working on currently is a monthly release cycle with preview and stable streams. As you are likely aware, in the past there has always been a bit of a disconnect between tML updates and updates on specific mods - where the modders have to wait on a tML update to release and then scramble to update their mods accordingly.
This new feature will allow modders to be be able to respond to new tML features and changes - and get their mods ready in advance - by developing and testing against the preview version. Then, at the end of each month, ideally, people playing on stable will get simultaneous tML and mod updates, and should be able to continue their playthroughs unimpeded. Solxan has been busy working on this new deployment, and when we have it ready and tested we will encourage all modders to port their mods to 1.4.
Beyond that, the TML 1.4 Alpha remains available for you to check out. Again, please keep in mind that this Alpha is primarily intended for developers as an audience - so play around with it at your own risk!
Given that we do not really know the timing or full content of the Labor of Love update as well as all of the already-completed work on 1.4.1 - 1.4.3 for Consoles and Mobile, the team made the decision to keep plowing ahead with our original plans. That means we will be focused on getting "current" parity into players' hands as quickly as possible. Now, there is a chance Labor of Love comes out first (which means we better rename this update) or there is a chance that this is a parity update that is then followed by PC jumping ahead again for a time. In either case, the team will be pivoting to bringing 1.4.4 to everyone just as soon as possible after the release of 1.4.1 - 1.4.3 plus any fixes needed.
So, with that topic taken care of, who wants to see more goodies coming your way in the Parity Update? How about a quick look at what's going on in The Constant seed?
Want more? Ok then, fine!
We are happy to reveal that our current trajectory has us on track to deliver the parity (1.4.3) update to everyone sometime in April 2022.
To be clear, there are a lot of moving parts here to make this happen – not the least of which are the various review processes from Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, etc. – so things could slip either way a bit as we are trying to bring every platform out at the same time. As we get a better sense and that window tightens up, we will be sure to share it with you all just as soon as we can!
Mobile news is much the same as the news for consoles... except that we can share that Mobile progress has gone smashingly well so far. What's that you say? You deserve a spoiler too? Well we agree! Check out these familiar friends that stopped by for a visit on Mobile Terraria...
It is our plan to bring Mobile and Console Parity out all together, all at once (send us your positive vibes please!) - and Mobile timing will be the same as shared above: April 2022.

MEOWMERE AUTHENTIC REPLICA SWORD FROM FIRE AND STEEL
Perhaps you have seen several images of the iconic Terraria rainbow cat sword in real life floating around (you definitely have if you follow our socials!). These are very limited edition Meowmere swords that were lovingly created by our friends at Fire and Steel. These are the real deal - made out of stainless steel and hand crafted to remain authentic to Meowmere itself. We have sent a handful of these out to our long-time friends and partners - but we can share that there will be two avenues for folks to get their hands on one of these epic pieces. We will be doing a raffle of sorts to give away 10 or so at some point (more details on that later), and the remaining 25 are available now for sale at Fire and Steel's site via the link below.
ANIMEGAMI STUDIOS REVEALS TERRARIA MINI-BIOMES - Your Feedback is Requested
The fantastic folks over at Animegami Studios, hot on the heels of the amazing Forest Biome piece (which is amazing if you haven't checked it out) has heard the desires of the Terraria community for a more accessible piece (or pieces) price-wise. The video below is a showcase of just that - the Terraria Mini-Biome series. With a target price point in the ~$100-$150 range, the team hopes that these are something far more Terrarians can get into in the event that they don't want to go all-in on something as extravagant as the Forest Biome piece. On top of that, the team would love to have your feedback on these pieces and more - so please take a few moments to check out the video and give them your thoughts via the Google Form link below!
Yet another awesome pin in the Biome Series from Sanshee. Plans are underway for a few more to come - be sure to find these on their online Terraria storefront so that you don't miss your chance to collect the full set!!

Until next time, Terrarians - we hope you have an amazing month, and we look forward to bringing you the latest and greatest next time!
As we have mentioned over the past few months, the team has been hard at work on an update to further optimize Terraria for Steam Deck play - inclusive of performance and controls. With the Steam Deck officially shipping out to players starting today, we are pleased to be able to push this update out to everyone just in time! For Terrarians that are not playing on Steam Deck at this time, dont fret, as we have some quality of life, balance, and bug fixes for you as well. Without further ado, let's dive right in!
Please note that this update also includes an update to the Terraria Dedicated Server application. You can always find the latest version of this at the bottom of https://terraria.org/, but we have included a link below for today's version as well:
Beyond technical under the hood performance optimizations and such, what else do we mean when we say "optimizing Terraria for Steam Deck"? Well one area of focus has been controls.
When we sat down to enjoy Terraria on the Steam Deck for the first time, we immediately realized that we needed to make a few tweaks to fully take advantage of all that this new system has to offer. Above and beyond the default touch controls provided by Steam Deck (which we may look to improve on in the future), we put together the little graphic below to show you how we have optimized things for all of the controls available on the Steam Deck:
Left Trackpad
– This gives you access to a handful of often-used commands right at your fingertips:
Up > Quick Heal
Left > Quick Buff
Right > Quick Mana
Down > Mount/Dismount
Right Trackpad
– This provides the player with a manual cursor, akin to using a mouse or a trackpad on a laptop
Pressing in the Right Trackpad acts as if you have pressed the Shift key on your keyboard
Back Buttons
– These will give you easy and ready access to all of your minimap and game window zoom options:
Bottom Left > Minimap Zoom Out
Bottom Right > Minimap Zoom In
Top Left > World Zoom Out
Top Right > World Zoom In
Battery Life
- We have done a handful of battery life tests on our development kit playing Terraria, and we find that we can typically get between 3.5 and 5.5 hours of playtime between charges – depending on brightness settings as well as the intensity of action in the game.
Obviously, Terraria is a game with a lot of possibilities in the way in which you can control things and in the demand for controls/buttons to get the job done. We are super happy to be able to take full advantage of the additional space on the control map provided by Steam Deck in order to help streamline your Terraria adventures and make controlling your character and world feel “just right”. Of course, all of these are just defaults that we think feel great - but everything is remappable in case you disagree and want to change things up!
CHANGES & BALANCE
GENERAL CHANGES
Summoned Minions, Sentries, and their projectiles should no longer harm critters
Updated Bundle of Balloons' sprite to reflect the items that went into it better
When placing a Graveyard-crafted version of a natural backwall directly next to a natural version of that wall, they should now merge seamlessly rather than having a large border between them
Skeletron now drops Healing Potions instead of Lesser Healing Potions. This same drop will also be applied to Deerclops, though Queen Bee will continue to drop her Bottled Honey instead.
Flinx Fur now requires less to research in Journey mode
All food (except Ale and Sake) now require less to research in Journey mode
All Biome crates, as well as Dungeon and Obsidian Lockboxes, now require less to research in Journey mode
Black and Pink Pearls are now more common when opening Oysters. Their sell value has been proportionally reduced.
Obsidian can now be mined by Pickaxes of 55% mining power or higher (for example, Gold Pickaxe)
When defeating the Wall of Flesh in Classic mode, it will now always drop 1 weapon and 1 emblem, like Expert treasure bags do
Heart and Star Statues are now twice as likely to be found in worldgen compared to other statues
Increased Web Shooter's range by 25%
Piranha Gun's Piranhas should now be much better able to keep up with rapidly moving enemies, assuming that enemy isn't teleporting or briefly becoming invulnerable
Changed Fairy Wing's recipe to only take 99 Pixie Dust instead of 100 (as 99 is the max stack for Pixie Dust)
Stained Glass now sells for a more reasonable value, compared to the gems used to make it
Optimized worldgen during the Desert chest placement stage
The Virtual Keyboard (in-game keyboard for Gamepad) is now used for IP/password entry and other Multiplayer text entry menus
DEERCLOPS
The Guide now has a hint about how to find Deerclops if the player has not yet defeated it
Deerclops' HP values now scale at a modified rate in Expert and Master, like other bosses. As a result, it will now have a lower maximum HP in both Expert and Master.
The above fix also addresses an issue where Deerclops' HP did not scale UP with increased player count in Expert/Master multiplayer games
Deerclops now only remains present in the Snow biome for 1 day when no players are present, instead of 3 days.
Deerclops' boss bar will disappear from the screen when suitably far enough away from it that the boss fight is not active. It will re-appear again once the fight is resumed.
Fixed an oversight where Deerclops had 0 defense
After defeating Deerclops, it now only has a 25% chance to spawn again naturally under proper conditions. This was previously 100% chance.
Deerclops now drops potions on death; in this case, regular Healing Potions like Skeletron.
NPC HAPPINESS CHANGES
Pylons now require a minimum of 2 NPCs under all conditions to be sold
The minimum required happiness for NPCs to sell Pylons is now more forgiving, with the number from 0.85 to 0.9 (the lower the number, the happier, with 1.0 being completely neutral). This means that it is now easier to make NPCs happy enough to sell a Pylon.
If an NPC is present in a hybrid biome (for example, the Hallowed Desert), and they like at least one of those biomes, then they will gain positive happiness from the biome they like. This will only work for a liked biome vs a neutral/disliked biome; it will not allow a neutral biome to overcome a disliked biome. This also does not override major unhappiness/housing invalidation due to being near the Corruption, Crimson, or Dungeon.
The number of NPCs you can have in a town before Crowded penalties begin to take effect has been increased by 1
BUG FIXES
Fixed an issue where the Eyebrella Cloud positioned itself oddly when a player is sleeping
Fixed an issue where a number of blocks which should have blocked light were not blocking light
Fixed an issue where Honey and Dry Bombs could not be placed on Weapon Racks
Fixed an issue where Torch God's projectiles from Corrupt Torches generated snow dust
Fixed an issue where Chester's Smart Cursor outline did not rotate with him when in the air
Fixed an issue where walking Goldfish couldn't be Corrupted/Crimson'd like other Goldfish
Fixed an issue where Desert Tiger did not bounce on enemies correctly if your Journey time settings were paused or sped up
Fixed a bug with lava fishing gear incorrectly impacting fishing time
Fixed an issue where Obsidian Armor had white item rarity even though, for its tier, it should have been a higher rarity color
Fixed an issue where Lucy didn't speak if you cut down Palm Trees or Cacti
Fixed some issues involving Jungle Shrines and Giant Mahogany Trees, where overlapping generation could cause broken chests
Fixed an issue where Star-generating Cloak accessories did not properly sync their star generation in multiplayer
Fixed a multiplayer issue where Plantera's spore projectiles were not syncing properly
Fixed an issue where the Electrified debuff had an inaccurate and non-informative buff info text
Fixed an issue causing Elf Melter to use 2 ammo per use
Fixed an issue where Chain Guillotine's chain would vanish at some angles
Fixed an issue where some UI Control text was broken in Polish language settings
Fixed an text-based multiplayer crash
Fixed rare crash when certain NPCs spawn in droves
Our good friend Chippy is getting ever so close to the one million subscribers mark (only 22k remaining - if you have not subscribed to this amazing channel yet, what are you waiting for?!)... and in celebration of that and his constant positive impact on the community, we worked with him to put together the little video below. This is definitely something that you will want to check out, trust us.
We hope you enjoy it - and once again, we are beyond thankful for all of your support: it inspires us to great things!
We missed you over the holiday break - between all of the usual family and friends, running around, and with more or less all of the pertinent news items being covered off at the end of November, we decided to push off the State of the Game and just move on into the new year. So here we are, 2022 has kicked off with a bang. Week one saw Terraria winning the 2022 Labor of Love Steam Award as well as the launch of Journey's End on Nintendo Switch. Week two saw the re-imagined China Mobile version of Terraria winning TapTap's 2021 Game of the Year. Behind the scenes, things have been equally busy, with each development team hard at work on what is to come later this year. What all does that entail, you say? Let's get into the details!
Happy New Year!
PC - RE-LOGIC
TERRARIA - LABOR OF LOVE & TAPTAP GAME OF THE YEAR
You like us, you really, really like us! At long last, the loyalty and strength of the Terraria Community won out, delivering the 2021 Labor of Love Steam Award to Terraria! As in years' past, we were up against some pretty tough competitors, so this is no small feat. We cannot say what all this means to us, other than "a whole lot" - I think a couple of team members might have even teared up a little. Suffice to say, we cannot thank you all enough for your amazing support this year, in the past, and in what is going to be a bright future. You all are what this is all about. Bravo!

Hot on the heels of the Labor of Love Award, we found out that the China Mobile version of Terraria won TapTap's 2021 Game of the Year. Yeah, we know this isn't technically PC news, but we are excited nonetheless, and felt it fit right in next to the Steam Award. This is a fully revamped and reimagined version of Mobile in China - much more aligned to the version that the rest of the world enjoys. It is beyond exciting to see such a strong level of support and enthusiasm for this release of our beloved game, and we look forward to seeing what other milestones it can achieve! Big thanks to the team at DR Studios and XDN for their hard work in making China Mobile awesome again!
STEAM WORKSHOP NEWS

The level of quality and quantity on the Terraria Steam Workshop just continues to climb - over 46,000 packs and worlds so far, and it just... keeps... growing! If you have not checked out the Workshop yet, what are you waiting for?
TERRARIA WORKSHOP DEVELOPER'S CHOICE SELECTIONS
Over the break and beyond, the team has had a chance to catch up on some of the latest Packs and Worlds on the Steam Workshop. So, here you have it - our latest suite of Developer's Choice sections!
What a horrible night to have a curse... on this simply amazing map.
WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON?
Funny you should ask! Steam Deck optimizations are nearly complete - in fact, we are likely looking to push those live soon to be ready well in advance of Steam Deck launch in late February. Unless you are playing on Steam Deck, you will not see much difference in this build, outside of a handful of bug fixes, etc. Our team is beyond excited for this new platform, and we have had a ton of fun messing around to try and get things feeling and running "just right" in time for launch. As for what else we have going on - a lot of experimentation continues around the future. After all, we need to be sure that our labors are worthy of your love moving forward, right?
Oh and Terraria is currently 50% off during the Steam Lunar New Year Sale - celebrate the Year of the Tiger by picking up a copy of Terraria for yourself or a friend! Click the banner above to head to our store page now!
TMODLOADER NEWS - TML TEAM
Hello everyone!
We're making slow, but steady progress towards a jump from Alpha to Beta! Before everything else, we would like to announce to the forums the late news that we have a new API developer. Everyone give a warm welcome to Solxan - a long time contributor to 1.4 TML - whose help has been so immeasurable towards the progression of project, that he now has been given write permissions for the tModLoader repository.
We appreciate everyone's feedback and input during the Alpha phase thus far, and we hope that you have enjoyed a glimpse into what the future will hold for tModLoader. More to come on the Beta and how all of that will work as we get closer, but we do not want to get too far ahead of ourselves. For now, here is a bit more detail into what we are working on right now...
Our main development focus is currently on the following:
Almost done - Entity spawn hooks & contextual sources (1.4_onspawn) - Data-oriented rework of tiles (1.4_data_oriented_tiles)
Work in Progress - A final redesign of audio systems (1.4_soundfix) - Designing & setting up the environment for beta release cycles - Topological sorting-based redesign of interface layers and world generation passes - Post-merge improvements for the asset system redesign;
Of course, the TML 1.4 Alpha remains available for you to check out. Again, please keep in mind that this Alpha is primarily intended for developers as an audience - so play around with it at your own risk!
As always, you can keep track the current progress and such more in real time at tModLoader/tModLoader (But note that the completion percentage doesn't mean anything, because issues and PRs don't have weights.)
PlayStation, XBOX, Nintendo Switch, Mobile - DR STUDIOS
Greetings, Terrarians! The team has mostly been focused on Switch Development and hotfixes... but we already have a keen eye on the future! What will that entail? Read on!
CONSOLE/SWITCH/MOBILE CONTENT PARITY DEVELOPMENT IS UNDERWAY
What's up next now that we have Switch Journey's End out of the door (pending a few more fixes, of course)? Why its the long-mentioned Content Parity Update! For years, non-PC players have followed behind on content, but these days will be coming to a close in 2022, as the DR team will be bringing content parity for everyone to fruition. Obviously, each platform will have its differences in features (touch for Mobile/Switch, etc), but as for the core content of the game itself, everyone will be on the same page. The timeline is still a bit TBD, but as soon as we have a better idea, we will share it. The plan is for this to come to all platforms at once... or as close as possible.
That means that we are aiming to bring 1.4.1, 1.4.2, and 1.4.3 to you all at once.
Now, to be clear, that does not include things like tModLoader or Steam Workshop-style pack support at this time. Those remain interesting ideas that the team will explore - but first things first, getting everyone to the same version of the core Terraria experience. We hope that you are just as excited as we are!
What's that, you want a quick teaser... well, alright then. To be clear, we have a lot of work ahead still, but without further ado we give you
Deerclops on Console and Mobile - an Early Sneak Peek
We are, of course, aware of some of the larger remaining bits (further KB+M work, Online+Splitscreen MP, etc) - and we still plan to get to these! Thanks so much for your feedback and reporting during the launch and since - with your help, we are able to fine tune and sort out issues to create a better Terraria experience for everyone!

What else can we say but wow. Just wow, Terrarians. You are all simply amazing and it is so humbling to finally be able to pull down the win here - and against rather stiff competition.
We know it is 100% due to your loyal support of our team and game over the years, and it is truly a pleasure to be able to work on an amazing game such as Terraria and then to share it with all of you.
Terraria truly is a Labor of Love for our team - like a family member to us - and to see it gain recognition such as this means more than we can say. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much to each and every fan out there and for each and every vote.
It has been and remains our honor to deliver the Terraria experience to you. We look forward to an even brighter future ahead - with Steam Deck optimizations, content parity for all platforms, and (hopefully, fingers crossed!) crossplay later this year. Journey's End may have arrived, but it sure feels like just the beginning to us.
Beyond that, well, time will tell as they say, right?

You have done it again, Terrarians! Terraria is officially a Nominee for the 2021 Labor of Love Steam Award! On behalf of the entire Re-Logic development team, a sincere thank you to each and every Terrarian out there for your support.
Once again, we are up against some really big games for this award - but it sure would be fantastic to see us pull the win over the line during Terraria's 10th Anniversary Year.
We need all of your support: get your votes in now for Terraria to win the 2021 Labor of Love Award, encourage your friends to do so, spread the word and lets get it done!
10 years and counting. New updates rolling in even after "Journey's End", including the amazing DST Crossover and Steam Workshop support. Never a microtransaction. Never a paid DLC. We can earnestly say that at least as far as we are concerned, Terraria is the definition of a Labor of Love for our little team. This is it, friends, let's make it happen - Terraria = your Labor of Love winner for the 2021 Steam Awards.
Finally pulling in the win here would honestly mean a lot for the Re-Logic team and would be great recognition for how we view the game and each of you. No matter what, know that we appreciate each and every one of you and your support over the years. Terraria is not just a game to us, it is family.
So, we would once again humbly ask your votes and for your help in getting the word out to everyone you can think of to head on over and vote for Terraria!
To vote for Terraria, just head to the Steam Awards Voting Page (or just click the big VOTE button in the banner at the top of the page), find Labor of Love, pick Terraria and let's go!
