Dear Explorers,

This one is a smaller update, with a simple goal: make your expeditions a bit harder! It's titled Endless Hazards and features 3 new map hazards: Geyser, Fumarole and Magma Spout. Let's find out more...


Geyser: Players can get washed away when the Geyser is active. Cycles between active and inactive.



Magma Spout: erupting spout that creates periodic Lava rivers that flow across the map, before cooling.



Fumarole: Creates a poisonous cloud that moves over the map for a certain amount of time.


This update also features a new piece of equipment: the Agile Saddle, which provides a free ambush when attacking.

One last important thing... Curious Expedition 2 is now available on Nintendo Switch™! It features all the content released for the Steam version so far. The Playstation and Xbox versions will follow in the near future.

Arrrr! Those Skeleton Pirates are very sneaky, swindling you for a useless Treasure Map! But - no more!

Changes
  • Villagers will no longer bury weapons in fog
  • It is now slightly more common to get a special location instead of a Sinking Tower
Fixes
  • Fixed not being able to use the Ancient Keys to get past the guardian in Act 4 Part 2
  • Fixed pirate treasure map not placing treasure sometimes
  • Fixed Jellyfish & Giant Tortoise buttons being offscreen when mounted in some languages
  • Fixed some buffs not being properly applied in combat when mounted (eg the Cutlass' "Marine Bonus")
  • Fixed losing proper Inspect focus when mounting using Controller
  • Fixed not being able to fully boost or target in combat sometimes when using Controller
  • Fixed walking animations playing when mounted and trading in some situations

Another month, another free content update. This one is all about SKELETON PIRATES. Here's what we prepared for you:




New Location: Undead Pirate Shipwreck. This is a variant of the Shipwreck where you can encounter Undead Pirates and recruit them, or do some trading.




New Recruit: Undead Pirate. Has the ability to fight when at zero health and an Ambush attack, making it perfect for combat-focused playstyles.




New Enemy: Undead Pirates. Undead skeletons that fight in groups, they can return from the dead if not killed fast enough.




New Wandering Trader type: Undead Pirate Gang. Trade for valuable goods, or engage in a friendly challenge. How intriguing!




New Weapons: Black Powder Pistol (powerful, but beware of self-stuns) and Cutlass (does extra damage when equipped by Sailor or Pirate).



This week's Club Competition reward is also fitting the update's theme: a Pirate Bandana! It's the kind of fashion item that never goes out of style.

Additionally, the update includes a number of changes and fixes — you can find the full change notes on our wiki (English only).

On the technical side, we want to higlight in particular that savegame backups are now stored in a different folder to avoid potential data loss caused by Steam Cloud (since some of you reported problems where your progress got lost). You can now find ".bak" files in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Maschinen-Mensch\Curious Expedition 2\backups (where <username> is your Windows user name)

Curious Expedition 2 - Eyes
A few tweaks and fixes for your expeditions!

  • When sponsored by Taishi, you will now get two different scroll types in the ship shop at once, rather than just one
  • The healing mushroom now only has a 30% chance of having a side effect, down from 50%
  • The Zouave Veteran will no longer start with negative ailments
  • Regular treasure maps now have a larger view
  • It is now possible to dig with your hands if you run out of shovels on a Missing Explorer expedition. Digging with a shovel will yield a better treasure.
  • Fixed being unable to cleanse ailments from Pale Masks at a Pale Mask shaman
  • Campsites are no longer ever on sale
  • Fix for not being able to use Leeches if you didn't have any characters with diseases
  • Fix for not being able to start combat sometimes
  • Fix for the cave in Act 2 Island 1 spawning in the fog sometimes
  • Fix for statuses that could be applied in the Tavern events before an expedition not being active when the expedition begun

Dear Explorers,

We just released Dark Caves, a small surprise content update themed around caves! The game is currently 25% off to celebrate.

Here's what you can expect:



5 new events for the Cave location, to increase unpredictability and encourage exploration. You will encounter bats, fireflies, hermits and of course treasures, so make sure to always carry some torches with you and enter any cave you find!




New enemy: Infested Moles. These are moles that got infested by mushrooms, which they use to mind control you in combat. They look pretty disgusting.




New item: Pneumatic Pickaxe. Can be used on the map to destroy mountains, or during combat.




Finally, we just launched a new weekly Club Competition, and the reward is... a Mole hat!

We plan to release a couple more small content updates during the summer, and a few bigger ones afterwards, so stay tuned, the adventure is not over yet — there's still lots to come.

One last thing: thanks to everyone who played the New Director free DLC, the feedback has been overwhelming, we couldn't be happier about it!

A few changes today to fix some of the various ways you could get into a sticky situation sometimes.

  • Reworked Acrophobia
    - Will only instill loyalty loss when entering a elevated region initially instead of every day while being on it
    - Does now trigger always trigger when entering the elevated region instead of only 33% of times (which was confusing)
  • You can no longer be surprise-attacked when returning to the map after some days have passed during an event
  • The items for Unpredictable Conditions are no longer sellable (so they won't clutter the barter screen). They will also no longer ever have their price reduced in the ship shop before expeditions.
  • Keys for the Sealed Pyramid can no longer be dropped. This prevents a number of ways in which it was possible to lose keys that were required to complete the expedition
  • Recently recruited characters don't lose loyalty when you dismiss another character
  • Improved performance on the map, in particular when revealing tiles
  • Improved status clean-up after finishing a island
  • Added new elephant attack animation
  • Fixed treasure maps sometimes showing the wrong tile for treasure (again, hopefully)
  • Fixed Scroll of Renewal being able to put you in an unreachable map situation
  • Fixed a black screen when returning to the map sometimes
  • Fixed missing text bugs in various events
  • Fixed issue where the wrong tile was chosen in prehistoric for portals
  • Fixed character being invisible when mounted in combat sometimes
  • Fixed Japanese translation for "Mysterious Fog"
  • Fixed some tiles in Cavern map being shown as having been discovered when they hadn't

Curious Expedition 2 - Eyes
Today's patch should hopefully finally get the last issue with the Missing Explorer. Turns out sometimes the treasure was in the correct place, but the map itself was wrong! Sorry about that! Please report any more issues you find with that one.

  • Rebalanced the Jellyfish's combat combos
    The Jellyfish's emphasis on Burning means that it had a way higher potential damage output than we intended, especially when using multiple of them. We reduced the impact of boosting on its burn effects, but gave "Massive Electroshock" a chance to stun instead. That way it should remain a strong attack option, but without the same potential for stacking to unintended heights.
  • Added new travel effects to the Corrupted biome
  • Made some Wandering Islander events that only give standing not happen when you are already at 10 standing
  • Fixed volcanos sometimes having traversable tiles within them
  • Fixed treasure maps sometimes showing the wrong tile for the treasure
  • Fixed the infobox for dice that come from character Perks not showing any details about where it came from in Event challenges
  • Fixed some sorting issues in some events
  • Fixed issue where the UI wouldn't appear when going back and forth between expedition and club selection screens
  • Improved loading times on some larger maps

Welcome to all the new players who've joined us since the free DLC launched last week! We hope you're enjoying the game — we've already published a couple of updates over the weekend for some of the bigger issues, and today we've released another patch.

Thanks to everyone who's been sending us bug reports! If you find a bug, please report it in-game using the button in the Options menu. That way, we get your savedata, logfiles and other useful information that helps us solve the problem faster.

If you haven't done it already, please remember to leave a review for the game on Steam, it really helps other people discover it!

  • A trek member now always gets only 1 Loyalty for being promoted
  • Increased the price of the items for "Unpredictable Conditions" from 15 to 25
  • Reduced the Sanity cost of Glowing Maggots to 5

  • Items from the Jellyfish's ability will now be given at the end of the trip instead of during it (which could cause you to be overburdened during a trip)
