Hello everyone! my name is Christian and I am going to tell you about the Beacon of Neyda demo... After a few hectic weeks, I will answering some questions that you have asked me these days.

Why now?
Although the demo was published after our game participated in LAGS 2024 (a couple of weeks ago), it honestly did not come out in its best state and we had to make several adjustments to polish the experience, it is still somewhat rough but I think it has improved enough to be an acceptable demo, that's why we announced it now... also preparing a Kickstarter campaign alongside the demo affected us a lot, the good news is that the demo will be available until August and maybe longer if the campaign Kickstarter has good results.



What now?
As for the demo, you will receive some more updates, to continue improving your experience (something that thanks to the feedback and opinions about the game that you, the players, give us, we are achieving). The next production phases of the game are still underway, such as new levels, enemies, missions, etc. (things that we will begin to share in the following development diaries). Although there are many factors, I can timidly anticipate that the game will be ready by 2025 and remember that it will be for PC and Xbox.

Dear Villainesses and Villains:



This is Tanya and Emily, the devs of Save the Villainess – and we hope you’re staying safe in the scorching summer heat! In this newsletter, we'll tell you about our soon-to-arrive demo and Kickstarter launch, introduce a fun secret, and share some progress on our novel. We have great news coming up!



We are working through the process to release Save the Villainess' public demo and Kickstarter campaign this July! Some of the timing will depend on approval processes beyond our control, but we are confident we will be able to share this with you soon.

We originally planned to release our demo and Kickstarter campaign this June… but we realized that in June, Steam hosts its annual Summer Sale and a giant NextFest for thousands of games. Instead of competing with these events, we spent June polishing up our demo and setting the stage for later parts of our game. We now have a demo that’s better than ever and hope you are excited for our projected late-July release!

Right now, we have worked through over 40 pages of notes for optimization and added bonus information. Emily has also revised and optimized all of our game’s beautiful characters, backgrounds, and cut-scenes so that the game runs as smoothly as possible while offering a fully animated and immersive world to explore. Thanks to our amazing beta testers, we now have a good idea of the minimum range of computer specs that can handle our game. We will use that information to help people determine what to use to play the demo!



Currently, the prologue has 1,500 lines of code. Meanwhile, Chapter 1 has 27,300 lines and Chapter 2 has 36,200 lines of code up to the end of the demo. We’ll be reusing some of this very important code (not including the code for things like the animated backgrounds and characters, which are in separate files) for the rest of our game, so creating stable code is really important!

We also have more secrets in our game than ever. Try out different foods at the start of the demo! See what happens if you replay tutorials… or skip them entirely! See if you can find all the new surprises we have hidden in the demo!

We will be submitting our demo build to Steam for review very soon after doing some testing. Once Steam approves our build – a process that can take a few weeks – we will be ready to showcase our final demo and Kickstarter campaign to the world. We will let you know when our demo & Kickstarter campaign release with a countdown on our mailing list and social media sites!



While you wait for our final demo and Kickstarter campaign, we wanted to introduce a fun new secret – the first of many character portraits that will show up throughout our game!



You see this lovely lady? This is Merlina and she is a portrait of someone we dearly love… one of our strongest and earliest supporters and champions. Her portrait was drawn by our amazing sprite artists at Somate Studio and comes to life within our game, complete with a few hidden secrets...

In our upcoming Kickstarter, you can secure your own animated, in-game portrait! Your portrait will be drawn by the master artists at Somate Studio and will be a major part of the plot in the final sections of the game. You too can share a stage with Jane and her suspicious love interests if you choose to support this tier of the Kickstarter!

We recently achieved two amazing new milestones. Firstly, our youtube channel achieved over 1,000 subscribers. Be sure to join us there for over one hundred unique Save the Villainess related videos!

Ready to take part in the latest playtest for the Project Sparrow rework!? We'll be running a playtest on Saturday, July 6th 8:00PM - 10:00PM BST. See below for more information on how to access the rework.

What is this playtest focussing on?
For this test, our primary goal is to make sure the matchmaking is working correctly. Putting players in the correct games depending on their region. Games may end abruptly, but please re-queue when you can!

How do I access the rework?
Matchmaking queues will only be open from Saturday, July 6th 8:00PM - 10:00PM BST.

Right click Project Sparrow in your steam library > go to properties > betas > then in the 'Beta Participation' dropdown, select 'rework - rework'.

Note: If you want to swap between playing the live version of the game and the rework, you'll have to come back here and change from 'rework - rework' to 'none'.

- Removed sprint keybinds from settings (it's an old keybind that doesn't exist anymore)
- Set the default movement ability to dash instead of roll
- Reduced kick stun duration from 1s to 0.5s
- Fixed some UI visuals
- Added a new camera status text for when you are stunned
- Fixed match result screen not showing the final score and if it was a victory or defeat
- Fixed ping not showing the correct value on the scoreboard
- Fixed a bug where the death camera would snap to a new killer instead of staying on the player that killed you
- Fixed a bug where the killcam would show the wrong player who killed you if a new player died before you saw the killcam
- Fixed a bug where team colors in the killfeed were wrong
- Fixed a bug where team colors whilst spectating or watching a replay were wrong
- Added a disconnect icon on the scoreboard and the scoring display (names at the top) for when a player is disconnected
- Fixed a bug where players weren't being removed from the scoreboard if they have left the game
- Fixed a bug where the grapple wouldn't work but still go on cooldown if looking directly upwards
- Fixed a bug where the grapple would attach to players (this is currently unintended)
- Slightly lowered volume when swapping between different arrow types
- Slightly increased grapple speed
- Fixed a bug where you could see your own damage text and hitmarkers when spectating another player or watching a replay
- Tightened some collision on Kings Rest
- Fixed a bug where the damage numbers and kill effects would spawn at 0,0,0 world location when killing someone with kick or powershot
- Powershot damage reduced from 250 > 200
- Powershot now has knockback, if the player hits a wall it does 50 extra damage
- Powershot stun time is .5s (same as kick)
