We are now ready with a new update! In this update, we have added new DLSS 3.5 features as well as Nvidia Reflex Low Latency. We have also developed a system that provides much better colors and lighting in the game. This update also applies to the demo version. Read more below.

New

  • Added Real Natural Capture to all maps. We have introduced Real Natural Capture to all maps, studying natural colors and implementing our new function called Real Natural Color. This function enhances the game's visuals by using the natural environment as a reference, resulting in more authentic and lifelike colors throughout the game. If you want a real-life glare effect, we recommend enabling Exposure in the settings.
  • Added more lighting to maps. We have increased the lighting on all maps, improving visibility and creating a more vibrant and detailed gaming experience.
  • Added new shadows to maps. New shadow effects have been implemented on the maps, providing deeper and more realistic shadows that enhance visual depth and atmosphere.
  • Added better fog. A new function to change fog scale in maps (dark maps not included). Fog effects have been improved, and we have added a new function called Fog Scale that allows you to adjust the density of the fog on maps. Note that this feature is not available on dark maps.
  • Added better lens flare. A new function to enable or disable lens flare in settings. Lens flare effects have been enhanced to create more realistic light reflections. We have also added a new function in the settings that allows you to enable or disable lens flare according to your preferences.
  • Added new dynamic wall to Team Protections Wall. The Team Protections Wall now features a new dynamic wall, enhancing protection and providing a strategic advantage in the game.
  • Added Nvidia DLSS 3.5 Frame Generation. With Nvidia DLSS 3.5 Frame Generation, our game can now leverage advanced AI algorithms to generate extra frames. This results in a significant performance boost and a smoother gaming experience, even at high resolutions and graphics settings.
  • Added Nvidia DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction. Nvidia DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction brings a revolutionary improvement in image quality by using AI to reconstruct light rays. This provides more realistic reflections, shadows, and lighting in the game, making the visual effects more lifelike and impressive.
  • Added Nvidia Reflex Low Latency. With Nvidia Reflex Low Latency, you can now experience extremely low latency in our game. This technology reduces input lag, offering more responsive and precise control, which is especially important for competitive and fast-paced action games.

These improvements are designed to deliver a more immersive, visually stunning, and technically advanced gaming experience.

Change

  • Updated Lumen settings. The Lumen settings have been updated to improve lighting quality and enhance the overall visual experience, providing more realistic and dynamic lighting effects.
  • Updated Conquest Flag with a Dynamic Flag. The Conquest Flag has been updated with a dynamic flag that changes based on which team has captured it, adding a visual indicator of team control.
  • Updated FPS Counter. The FPS counter has been updated to provide more accurate and detailed performance metrics, helping you monitor your game's performance more effectively.
  • Updated DirectX 12 (Ray Tracing). DirectX 12 settings have been updated to optimize ray tracing, enhancing the visual fidelity and realism of reflections, shadows, and lighting in the game.
  • Updated Map images. The map images have been updated to display a static picture of the map instead of a live match view, providing a clearer and more consistent representation of each map.

Hot Fix

  • Fixed shadow issues. We have resolved the issues with shadows to ensure more consistent and accurate shadow rendering throughout the game.
  • Fixed spawn player issues in Sulphur Firth. The issues with player spawning in Sulphur Firth have been addressed, ensuring players spawn correctly in this area.
  • Fixed achievements issues. The problems related to achieving milestones and unlocking achievements have been fixed, providing a smoother and more reliable experience.
  • Fixed water color issues in Groovery Woodland. The water color discrepancies in Groovery Woodland have been corrected, resulting in more natural and visually appealing water effects.
  • Fixed leave match issues from in-game menu. The issues with leaving a match from the in-game menu have been resolved, allowing players to exit matches smoothly and without errors.
  • Fixed HDR brightness issues. The HDR brightness issues have been resolved, ensuring more accurate and consistent high dynamic range (HDR) lighting for a better visual experience.

🛠 Player Settings Changes for Linux/Windows/SteamDeck Platforms

🏷 Major Changes:
- **Unreal Engine 5 Global Illumination (Lumen):** Disabled for all players using Low/Medium graphic quality. This change aims to improve performance and compatibility on systems with more modest hardware.

🐧 Additional Instructions for Linux/SteamDeck Platforms:
If you still encounter issues running the game on a Linux/SteamDeck platform, you may need to manually edit the `GameUserSettings.ini` file before running the game again. Follow the steps below:

1. Go to the folder `~/.config/Epic/TRAUMA`.
2. Look for the file `GameUserSettings.ini` inside the folder `Saved/Config/Linux`.
3. Change the lines to the following values:

- When removing the old settings, do so with the game running, even if it crashes. Only remove the files in the folder containing `GameUserSettings.ini`. Do not remove the `SavedGames` folder to avoid losing your saved progress.

Hi everyone,

after a long time of developing & also taking a bit of a break, the new fire update is finally available on the experimental branch.

I have to say, it has taken more time than expected to finish everything, because beside the visuals I had also to integrate the impact of the fire system in nearly every aspect of the game. Like the impact on all colonists, all animals, all constructions, all items, the nature and its recovering, the general combat system and far more.



Access

You can access the experimental branch in the following way:

  • Right click on AColony in your steam library
  • Select Properties
  • Select Betas
  • Type in: password1234



Info

The experimental branch has usually a version where the game can have some bugs and is relatively unbalanced. In addition, I still have a few points which I will add during that period (like for example that fuel generators with fuel in them are not exploding when on fire at the moment).

If you find any errors, bugs, weird behavior or have suggestions - you can always write it here in the comment section or join our discord to discuss them there.

Note:
If a public version is released and has a higher version number than a save file from the experimental branch, then you can also use that save file there.




What's Next?

While I have to make some fixes & rebalancing in the next days, I also plan to record a new short steam trailer regarding the fire update, making some new screenshots and prepare all for a major steam update (which will also have then all details of the main topics and a full list with all patch notes).

In addition, with the release of the public version of the fire update, AColony will be available with a -30% discount for ~2 weeks.

Over The Top: WWI - Olafson


The Second alpha Playtest for Over The Top: WWI is now live! The Playtest will last from the Saturday the 25th May at 16:00 Berlin (24:00 Sydney, 10:00 New York) and will end on the 26th May at 06:00 Berlin.

Changelog
Here are the most important changes between the last Playtest from the 14th of April and this Playtest.

4 New Vehicles
We added 4 new vehicles to the game. Each Faction now has access to an Armored Car and a Transport Vehicle.

Armored Cars
Armored Cars are even faster than light tanks and are equipped with a heavy machine gun turret. However they are only lightly armored and can be destroyed quickly.



Transport Vehicles
Transport vehicles are capable of transporting up to 12 troops plus one driver. They are very fast but lack any kind of armor, so be on the look out for enemy gun emplacements.



First Person Camera
One of the most requested feature was the addition of first person to the game. You can now enter first person by pressing V.



New Uniforms
The German Officer and the German Heavy Gunner have received entirely new uniforms.



New Maps
This playtest will feature two new maps. Both maps are set in the early stages of the war and feature only a few trenches, so you better get your shovels ready!

Vehicle User Interface
We have implemented a new Vehicle User Interface. Located to the bottom left next to the health bar, you will now be able to tell which direction your gun is facing and which seat corresponds to which gun.



Player on Player collision
To prevent players from blocking entryways and getting stuck in tight places such as tunnels, staircases or trenches, players within the same team will no longer collide with each other. Players from opposite teams however will still collide. Players that are bleeding out will also no longer prevent players from moving over them.



Other Changes
We added a ton of other smaller changes and additions. Here are the most important of them:

Visible Map Borders
We made map borders slowly blend in the closer you get to them, notifying you of their existence.

Reloading Changes
Clicking any Mouse-Button while not reloaded will now automatically reload your rifle, preventing you from aiming your rifle if unloaded.

Grenade Perk and Explosions
The Grenade Perk now also improves the damage output of any grenades you throw and you can throw them slightly further. Explosions will now also no longer damage you through the ground.

Spawn Protection Zones
We implemented a Spawn Protection Zone system that prevents enemy players from entering your spawn area and spawn killing players. It will notify players entering a zone by the screen turning grey.

Machine Gun Fire Rate
We uncoupled the MG fire-rate from your ping, meaning that no matter how high or low your ping, machine guns will now always fire the same speed.

Turn off HUD
Pressing H will now turn off/on your user interface.
