Welcome to the Chronicles of Rodovia - a series designed to prepare you for ascension to the throne! 📖 Thanks to the following entries, you will learn how to manage your kingdom and your subjects, make crucial, even fateful decisions, and safeguard your reign from premature demise. In each subsequent post, we will take a closer look at a different gameplay element and explain the basic mechanics that govern the world of Crown of Greed, so be sure to follow them carefully.
Before we get to today's topic, we have an important announcement to make. We are thrilled to tell you that Crown of Greed will take part in the upcoming ▶️ Steam Next Fest October Edition! ◀️ Look for our title among the other games participating in this event and spread the word among your friends! Only with your help can we introduce our project to thousands of new players around the world. And now...
The Kingdom of Rodovia consists of unfriendly, unexplored and extremely dangerous lands where wild beasts, undead and demons lie in wait for unwary travelers or brave souls who decide to venture too far into the wilderness. Fighting them, although honorable, is very difficult and tricky. And so, speaking of tricks - today we want to introduce you to a helpful list of best practices, tips and guidelines that will help you survive in every situation!
Whether it's combat, building your wealth, map awareness, or relationships with your fickle heroes, we believe the following advice will definitely be useful to you as you prepare for your noble role of a king. Stay sharp and read carefully, as what follows might save you and your kingdom from disaster. Let’s dive right in!
Knowledge comes with experience... but that doesn't mean you can't benefit from the experiences of others! Before we dive into the tips, keep in mind that every ruler has a unique style - what’s a game-changing trick for one might be barely noticeable to another. Nevertheless, it is worth trying them all out in practice to give your foothold the maximum chance of survival and defeating the enemies that threaten it.
From the early stages until the end of the game, Watchtowers are one of the main pillars of defense. Know, that their placement is crucial for them to function properly, so try to build your towers in strategic locations. The best places are narrow passages leading to the vicinity of your city, immediate proximity to the streets and buildings of your foothold or areas surrounding strategic locations such as caravan routes or gold mines.
Properly placed watchtowers are a powerful defensive tool
Your loyal tax collector visits each building under your control, gathering the tribute that is rightfully yours. Left alone, however, he is defenseless and can easily fall victim to a murderous attack, losing all collected money. That's why you need to keep him safe from harm!
To do this, place the Watchtowers mentioned in point 1. in strategic places along his route, or hire heroes who will repel hostile creatures that want to slay him. Such an investment, although sometimes not cheap, will definitely pay off over time!
If you manage to capture remote outposts and restore them to service, caravans heading your way will soon depart. If they manage to reach your headquarters, your treasury will be filled with a considerable amount of gold coins. As with the Tax Collector, you must ensure their safe passage.
If you’re after riches, Gold Mines are the way to go. Remove the surrounding threats, construct the right facility, and reap the rewards of golden mining! Stay alert, as your enemies will not be idle and will try to put an end to your profitable venture! While, Gold Mines require a long construction time and are located in difficult to access places, they are still a "golden deal" investment.
Goldmine is a difficult but profitable investment
The better you know the areas surrounding your foothold, the better your chances of discovering treasures and avoiding dangers. Send your heroes on reconnaissance missions so you can learn the terrain and plan your next moves! Moreover, dispelling the fog of war will allow you to discover additional side missions, treasures, new buildings, and gain kingdom development points.
All heroes, whether beginners or veterans, love gold. The true skill lies in assigning the right rewards to each quest. Remember not to offer your rookie heroes too high fees - just a few hundred coins are enough for them to decide to undertake the expedition and fulfill your will. Remember that you can change the reward while the assignment is still on, so be wise with your wealth! Often, a better solution to develop your heroes is to send them on a series of "cheap" missions rather than one expensive escapade.
The sooner you get used to constant attacks on your kingdom, the better! However, instead of repelling constant attacks with heroes, watchtowers, and guards, sometimes a precision strike is the better option. Monster habitats in the vicinity of your city constantly generate new enemies, so if you are strong enough, consider destroying them to relieve the pressure on your border defenses. Once you have cleared the nearby areas of monster habitats, you should have more time and space to expand your city and plan further expeditions.
Destroying enemy dwellings will limit attacks on your kingdom
Your heroes will sometimes die in battle. That's just the nature of the world of Rodovia. However, this does not mean that it is not worth taking care of them! Remember that you can support their effectiveness by offering them access to Blacksmith, Market, or Inn. You can also upgrade your heroes' habitats to improve their abilities.
One veteran is worth more than three greenhorn adventurers. That’s why, in tough battles, you should focus on supporting your most experienced warriors with spells and reinforcements. You can even bring back the most powerful heroes from the dead... however it's not a cheap or easy task.
This is a short but very important tip. Never delay completing scenario objectives for too long, as an overly drawn-out session can overwhelm you! At some point, the hordes of enemies flooding your city may prove to be its undoing...
We will devote a separate entry to this topic, so here we will only reveal a little bit of the secret. Between scenarios, you'll be able to purchase numerous upgrades that will accompany you throughout the game. Don't neglect them, and choose wisely to increase your effectiveness and secure additional bonuses!
You don't have to stay idle during combat, you can support your units with powerful spells
Again, this is the topic we want to cover in the separate entry. For now, let's just say that each hero, in addition to their class, has a number of unique traits that determine their temperament or character. These traits influence character development, willingness to undertake different types of missions, combat prowess, and other factors, so they simply cannot be ignored.
Crown of Greed is no easy game! It's totally okay to fail... as long as you won't give up and try again! Experiment with different tactics, methods, and strategies so that the experience you gain helps you overcome any challenge.
Are the Crown of Greed challenges too deadly? Or maybe... too easy? If so, be sure to test different difficulty settings to tailor the game to your preferences.
With the above tips, you will surely gain greater efficiency in managing your subjects, heroes and shiny gold. As you progress through future missions and challenges, you’ll be able to add your own tried-and-true strategies to this list and even share them among other players! We encourage you to explore new solutions and clever tactics that even we, the devs, haven't thought of.
While playing the Demo, you've repeatedly surprised us with your creativity and prowess, and we can't wait to see what else you're capable of. But in the meanwhile...
We trust that the thirteenth entry of the Chronicles of Rodovia series has sparked your eagerness to seize the throne and guide your kingdom to prosperity and glory! You can be sure that we will soon publish more interesting information and news about the game, just like the next parts of our Chronicles 😁 Stay hyped, stay tuned, and add Crown of Greed to your Steam wishlist. Thank you, Rulers!
