We are excited to announce that we are testing a new Sheltered game mode, called “Surrounded” and that it is now live so that you can play and offer feedback!
Unfortunately the beta for Sheltered Update 6 will be only accessible via Windows PC. Update 6 will be ready for playing on Linux and OSX when it is officially released. Can you keep a mother and son alive for 50 days during a continuous onslaught from a gang who want to take over the shelter? Check out the new features exclusive to the Surrounded game mode:
Learn to use the new medical Defibrillator.
Enjoy this alternate wasteland with a new surface layout!
Explore a new map with unique encounters during the father's expedition.
An evolved combat system for shelter combat. Multiple breaching attackers can now be fought at once. Items can now be equipped and utilised in shelter combat too!
Try the new system to track your resources. You can bookmark recipes to highlight the items you still need to make it! (This feature will also appear in the main Survival game).
This Beta will be granted to everyone so let’s see if you can survive for 50 days. Unfortunately, there is no controller support for this Beta.

When Stasis arrives in a future update you'll emerge in a world you won't recognise, a world of even greater decay and ruin than you would of ever experienced in an original Sheltered play through. Nothing rebuilt - it just got worse.
The Unicube team have had some fun reworking some of the distinct locations that you've encountered so far. The main design point around the reworks being "how would they appear years after the original game".
Below you'll be able to see a few examples of some of the backgrounds you'll be encountering in Stasis, with plenty more to come...

The next update will now include shelter inhabitants entering a brief period of unconsciousness before they die. This state is reached when the character takes damage that would normally kill them, either from combat or illnesses.
In order to revive the unconscious member before they slip away into the eternal abyss you will need a fully charged defibrillator ready to zap them back to life. The defibrillator can be unlocked by playing through the new surrounded game mode, so giving it a play through will be extremely beneficial as you can now avoid the death of your characters. Also there’s no need to worry about power being out as the defibrillator will hold its charge for a brief period, this is handy when you are in a sticky situation.

As you are aware Sheltered has a large array of items for you to scavenge and craft, which can lead to players having to memorise what specific items they should look for an expedition. This adds another unintentional layer of challenge when you know, you’re trying to keep everyone in your shelter alive.
To address this the team have started working on a pinning system to both the crafting and upgrade panels, thus allowing you to pin a recipe or upgrade that will display a marker on the items you require to craft it.
If/when you’ve acquired the correct number of items the market will disappear. If you have two recipes or upgrades that both require the same item, the marker on the specific item will not disappear until you have enough of it to satisfy for requirements for both.
All going well this feature should be added into Sheltered when update 1.7 launches and will work on Surrounded, Stasis and the original Survival game mode.
As always, thank you for your continued feedback and support, we look forward to hearing what you think of this feature when it goes live.
