The Pacifist Bug

There's been an elusive bug that I've been trying to hunt down where players suddenly wouldn't attack a target, then seemed resigned to their fate as a gladiator and just stood there and took a beat down. This SEEMS to be fixed after a lot of testing today.

Fallback:
I've put a check in for when a player appears to be just standing around doing something because they can't reach a target. There is an adverse side-affect to this that I'll continue to improve the logic around, that is that YOU may target something you can't reach and the game might retarget for you because you can't reach it. So it might seem like the game isn't listening to your targeting, when it's just protecting you from yourself.

New Settings Menu
Complete rewrite of the settings menu. Yes that means most of your settings are trashed and you'll have to reset them! But, I'm now using an INI file instead of internal saving, so it wont reset when you logout or are force logged out.. .and we shouldn't have more settings bugs creeping up as it's a much better handler.

- Leaderboards now are changed by your web cam setting
- There is still some left over work to be done here and I plan on knocking this out over the next two builds and finish adding more settings.

AI Upgrade
I've updated the AI, which will start helping with future behaviors. This also means changes to the targeting system which should work a lot better - less back and forth decisions. There's still more to be done here but it should be a step in the right direction with targeting.

You also now have a VERY SMALL chance to target a chest when in auto mode.


Text Upgrade

Upgraded the way the text looks over characters. It think it's more readable but, some colors can be worse than before. Will continue to improve this and work on getting a limited color range to avoid gnarly colors on names.

Bug Fixes
Honestly.. I fixed a ton of crappy code and a few bugs I didn't even realize existed. I don't even remember all the things that were fixed. I'm sure I created new bugs as I'm working on rewriting and hardening a lot of code.

SA CHAT BOT and Permissions
I've merced the SA bot for the moment. I'll bring it back after I work on a lot of network hardening, there seemed to be some issues with the double client use.

You need to log out and back in to get the chest messages in your chat, they'll come from you.

I've asked for more permissions for your account for the game. This is just for things like Polls, predictions, hype trains. None of it will be forced on you and will have options to turn off, but I'm working on a lot more integrations with Twitch and engagement that I think will be a lot of fun for all of us.

NEW Known ISSUE:
]I'm fixing a few of these right now, but I didn't want to wait till Saturday to get this major fix out.

- You may randomly attack yourself again.. lolkekw
- The upgrade on one of the AI modules I use was not backwards compatible and I missed that it overwrote my safety code.

- If you're chasing someone when they're fleeing the game miscalculates that as time when you're doing something you're not and may retarget you if it takes too long for you todo damage

- The settings upgrade came with a bit of a caveat on that it's using a bunch of new postprocessing, lighting, and settings - so some levels / shadows might be wacked in a few levels. I'm upgrading the post processing and some other things over the coming weeks.

- You can still get stuck on tight levels like Dave's dungeons, but it shouldn't be for very long. No more small dungeons, they'll all be upgraded.

In preparation to go MMO, we goin free to hammer the server. We want to dethrone every space mmo out there, so we might end up having tens of millions of users. So some pre-emptive server load helps for the future.

Starfighter General, the spiritual successor of Xwing vs Tiefighter. We plan on taking this game light years ahead of where it is now, and the industry at large. We going MMO to compete with the biggest space MMOS.

For now, It is a Clash of Clans style game. Build production buildings, research stronger ships, build ships, build all sorts of things to build a huge fleet. Then of course go raid other people's bases. Unlike traditional games of this type which force you to wait, you can be raiding bases non stop, securing more resources to upgrade your base and ships. This ends up being really fun because starbases will upgrade while you're playing the action part of the game.

The future mmo is ambitious and uses many techs never seen before in games. It will end with live game master(s) allowing the universe and history to be permanently changed by RPG moments guided by the GMs.

The MMO will contain "Space dungeons" which are special zones that all players compete for a big reward. Each Space Dungeon has a different win condition and goals. One might be ffa. Another might be FFA highlander mode. Another might be science based phenomena puzzle to solve. Another might be team vs team. Another might be chess team (aka you kill the king) you win. Another might be who kills a boss fastest. Long story short, once a day, these places will drop really good loot predictably either on a timer, or via clue sheet. Then most players will know where to be. And the same guy won't win every 'Space Dungeon' because the rules are dif for each.

There will be resource trading, aka, buy aluminum or other metals one place and sell another like Elite.

There will be a PVP bounty system. Everyone can PVP at all times. Stakes are low if your ship explodes. If you get attacked without declaring aggressive mode or an opponent to duel, the aggressor gets a bounty on their head in accordinace with the damage dealt to you. If this bounty gets high enough, and they get caught, they will be put in jail. When they log on for the next few hours or days, their character can play only in jail, and visitors come see him and such. Global chat disabled.

There will be illegal substances like ficitious drugs and contraban weapons which you can profit from greatly, but you risk your cargo being scanned by a random and getting a bounty on your head.

There will later be grand space opera. AKA Live Game Masters will observe the game, and allow players to permanently change the history on their server. I actually know several highly talented game masters personally who are ready to be on board.

Then later, the ability to touch down on ground, and your player get out FPS style will come with proceedurally generated planets and cities.

Of course you have your standard MMO quests and random wandering monsters and situations.

I have other plans, but this will be a very fun game to come along for the dev ride. Enjoy updates and get yourself strong now, so when later the Space Opera comes out, you can be one of the big dawg influencers of the universe.

New cutting edge networking tech halves your lag, costs no maintaince fees and unlimited action players in the same zone!

1) Space Dungeons-A competitive zone, with rewards. Every 30-60 min a diff space dungeon gets a real big reward, and they want to find which one.

2) Resource trading like Pirates or later Elite

3) PVP, but if you're in peace mode and someone attacks, they get a bounty on their head.

4) Space Opera-Grand live game master stuff. Allow the universe to change permanently and for player names to be stored in history, this will mean there is an infinite END game.

5) Capital Ships-Don't want to add too soon, before starfighter meta shows and people have advanced economies.

8) Factorio/Satisfactory sort of automation where your mining bots go out, and maybe people jack em, so maybe you send defense or watch who does it from camera and seek revenge.

9) I'll try not to have any bind on equip or bind on use, with everything tradable. And I might not mind if you trade outside the game as long as hackers aren't stealing accounts n stuff.


Well enjoy the ride, space is very smooth to ride until stuff crashes into you. The more you power up the base, the stronger you'll be in the mmo, and that matters for the long haul in MMO terms.

Hey Panda Peeps!

Do you like surprises? We sure hope so, because - surprise! - we're releasing a brand new, never-before-talked-about game. Betcha didn't see that coming!

We're really excited to introduce Cabin Fever, a slice-of-life visual novel that's super romantic, a little smexy, pretty darn funny, and possibly probably tragic. Although it doesn't take place in the Crush Crush universe, we're sure you'll find the beautiful artwork and witty, heartfelt dialogue very familiar. You might even recognize a voice actor or two!

If you'd like to read more about this side project, you can check out our Blog post HERE, but the TL;DR is this: Quarantine happened so Artist Panda made a game inspired by it. Also we wanted to practice releasing something smaller-scale ahead of the super-mega-epic VN Hush Hush - y'know, for learning purposes and stuff!

Storybook Brawl - matthewnass
Welcome to our latest patch notes! Today we have a number of balance changes as well as some bug fixes. This update is server-side only and won't require any download.

BALANCE UPDATES

Pan's Shadow
  • Old: Your Evil characters cost 1 less. -> New: The first Evil character you buy each round costs 1 less.
Pan's Shadow had the highest average finish of all the heroes. Much of his power came from the ability to buy multiple extra characters in a single round (since level 2 evil characters were 50% cheaper). After this change, he should still have a very strong early game, but be more in line with the power level of other heroes. All players that owned Pan's Shadow before this change will be refunded the dust or gems they spent (and will still own Pan's Shadow).


Copycat
  • Old: 4/1 -> New: 4/4
  • Old: I have the Last Breath abilities of the characters behind me. -> New: After I attack, trigger the Last Breath abilities of the characters behind me.
After introducing the Copycat last patch, many players have enjoyed the crazy combos he has brought to the game. But, his ability to end a brawl before it really even started has been too much. This change will add the risk of Copycat dying before it triggers, while also opening up some new synergies. For example, he will now work more intuitively with cards like Captain Croc, and summon a copy of whatever is in Croc's belly.


Monster Book
  • Old: 4/4 -> New: 10/4
  • Old: Last Breath: Cast a random spell on an enemy character. -> New: Last Breath: Cast a random spell.
  • Spell List: Falling Stars, Earthquake, Ride of the Valkyries, Blessing of Athena, Lightning Bolt, Fireball, Shrivel, Poison Apple, Disintegrate, Pigomorph
  • Upgraded version now casts two different spells.
The goal with this change is to reduce the frequency that Monster Book Pigomorphs multiple enemies in a single brawl, while also adding some random fun by adding spells like Blessing of Athena to the list.


Deck of Many Things
  • Old: Level 5 -> New: Level 4
  • Uses same spell list as Monster Book.
To make up for Deck of Many Things less consistently hitting powerful spells, we are moving it down a level.


Happy Little Tree
  • Old: After each brawl I gain +2 Health permanently. -> New: I gain +2 Health permanently each round.
Before this change, you had to actually have Happy Little Tree in the brawl for him to grow. Now he can grow even from your hand. (He was so happy when he heard we were buffing him, we considered changing his name to Very Happy Little Tree)


Southern Siren
  • Old: Slay: Summon an Upgraded exact copy of the slain character. -> New: Summon two exact copies of the slain character.
This change only affects the upgraded version of Southern Siren. Often in the late game, her upgraded text didn't matter because she was slaying an enemy that was already upgraded. Her new version will make her upgraded agility much more impactful.


Three Big Pigs
  • Old: 9/9 -> New: 15/15
  • Old: Last Breath: Summon three 3/3 Pigs. -> New: Last Breath: Summon three 5/5 Pigs.
The rest of the dev team thought this power increase was too much! But I huffed and I puffed... and eventually got my way.


Fairy Godmother
  • Old: 2/2 -> New: 3/3
  • Old: When one of your Good characters dies, give your good characters +2 Health this brawl. -> New: When one of your Good characters dies, give your good characters +3 Health this brawl.
This should add some power to mid game "Good" synergies, especially with cards like Trojan Donkey.


Quest is one of our favorite Storybook Brawl mechanics. It gives players a viable tool to help ensure they are finding treasures even when they aren't finding triples. To that goal, we've powered up three questers to make sure they are strong enough to actually fill this role.

Nutcracker
  • Old: 2/10 -> New: 4/10


Cinderella
  • Old: Quest: Cast 5 Spells. -> New: Quest: Cast 4 Spells.


Brave Princess
  • Old: 3/3 -> New: 4/3


Lich's Heart
  • Lich's Heart is being removed from the game.
Storybook Brawl is at its best when it is exciting. We are removing Lich's Heart from the card pool because it can remove so much of the mystery and excitement of who is going to win, and will the defeated player be eliminated, or not?


Romeo
  • Romeo will now summon a Juliet as long as Juliet has died at any point in the brawl. This means it will work more consistently when you have two copies of Romeo and one Juliet, and work better when you copy its ability.


BUG FIXES
  • Fixed an issue that was preventing reconnecting to a game during hero selection.
  • When reconnecting to a game that is complete, you will now be able to see the results.
  • Masquerade Ball fixed to upgrade characters in the shop that should be upgraded from treasures.
  • Swapping to Skip no longer causes you to lose 2 gold the next turn. You do still get +3 XP though!
  • Court Wizard now makes a bonus attack when Cupid causes an ally to attack and and kill a Prince or Princess.
  • Fixed an issue where Echowood was gaining health from Wild Growth buffing characters in the shop.
  • Fool's Gold no longer causes Pied Piper's shop to stop selling an extra Animal.
  • Casting Hi Ho! with a full board and hand will now create a free Dwarf in the shop.
  • Cinder-Ella in your hand was incorrectly counting spells cast during a brawl for her Quest. She now needs to see the spell cast.
  • Robin Wood's ability now happens after Ashwood Elm's.
  • When turning a character Good / Evil, spells that target Good / Evil will now correctly see the new alignment.
  • Removed VFX from Eenie Meenie Miney Mo.
  • Added VFX to Aon and Prince Arthur.
  • Bots can no longer get heroes that were options for players in the game.
  • Bots now count towards rank point gains and losses for Legends.
