Have You Played? is an endless stream of game recommendations. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time.>

Cart Life is one of the few games that seems like a natural precursor to Papers, Please. It tackles the grind of daily life, portrayed through mechanics and aesthetics that capture the blurry, bleary repetition and extraordinary tangents that spring from work and survival. It’s free.

It’s time to mop up the very last parts of the overly obvious food metaphor for the year. As we struggle to swallow down those last few mouthfuls of this trite cliche, let’s move on a far more delicious pudding: the final part of our Bestest of the Restest games of 2014. You can read part one here. And once again, they’re in no particular order.>

Boxing Day is Britain’s traditional day for taking everything that constituted yesterday’s Christmas dinner, and placing it cold between two slices of bread. Slap on some redcurrent jelly, and eat it no matter how full you are. It’s just the law. And so it is for gaming goodness over 2014. Despite gorging on 24 of the Best Bestest Games over the last month, we’ve so many other games we’re now putting in sandwiches. Below you’ll find the first half, in no particular order, of the Bestest of the Restest from this year. You can read the second half here.>

Christmas Day! Doctor Who, the Queen’s speech, crackers, spuds, sprouts, Mary Poppins, The Snowman, Uncle asleep in an armchair, all the good Quality Street gone… oh, what a big day I like to imagine you’re having! There you are, wrapped in tinsel and smeared in chocolate as you read this. Me, I don’t really ‘do’ Christmas, but gosh oh holly> [holly is traditional Christmas foliage, and its name rhymes with golly -Christmas ed] I always find a minute for Dracula Cha Cha.

Oooooh!

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game recommendations. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time.>

Are you willing to gamble 1.99 on a game you might very well loathe? If so, head on over to Steam and buy Deadly Premonition in the sale. It is wonky, it is ugly, it is weird, it is slow, its port is awful, and it is charming, it is exciting, it is weird, it is funny, and it is one of my favourite games.

Oh my, it’s so close! Only a few hours until Horace dons his jingling hat and slithers simultaneously down the chimneys of all the good boys and girls. Remember to leave out the grisly remains of a slaughtered deer, if you want your stocking filled with gifts and guts!

And with the season, it is of course time for RPS’s writers to enter their collective hibernation, deep beneath the ground below Castle Shotgun, all wrapped up in straw.

Hello youse.

It’s the end of the year, and so I want to take a page to reflect upon the games we’ve seen in 2014. So many of them! Too many! The easiest way to do it would be by using some kind of list, right? Right? RIGHT.
