UPDATE: The deadline has been extended! We will be announcing the new date soon. If you’ve already exported your shows, thanks for staying on the ball! For those that haven’t, you can rest easier until the new deadline is released. Stay tuned!
TLDR: We’re upgrading our show format code, which will make saved and shared shows incompatible with the latest version of Mindshow on August 24th. Please export any old shows that you want to keep by August 23rd 11:59 PM PDT!
Hello Mindshow’ers!
We have lots of new features we can’t wait for you to get your hands on! We’re making optimizations to some of our code’s fundamental architecture that will help us improve Mindshow even faster in the future. That said, this change comes with a tradeoff.
On August 24th, your saved and shared shows will be incompatible with the latest version of Mindshow. This means legacy shows will no longer be shareable or available on the Stream. Our engineers looked at every possible way to keep them, but the time and cost would mean delays for many updates you’ve been asking for (i.e. bug fixes, new characters, environments, tools, recording capabilities, etc…).
Additionally, interactive props (the soundboard, the gate in the Pearly Gates Environment, etc…) will be disabled in the August 24th release. With the new show format, the interactive prop functionality will need to be reimplemented, and we don’t want to delay the technical optimization that will allow us to release new updates, fixes, and features at a brisker pace. While we don’t have the timing for reimplementing interactive props 100% pinned down, when we do bring back interactive props, we want to do them right. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
With that said, here’s the good news: we’ve been gathering your suggestions and bug reports, and not only will the changes help us work on those requests quicker, but your Mindshow experience will be greatly improved. Here are a few of the many optimizations you can expect:
Faster loading, saving, and sharing shows, with less memory required Reduced time to export shows Enhanced recording capabilities More features, more frequently
If there are shows that you don’t want to lose, please export those shows by August 23rd, 11:59 PM PDT. We know this is a bummer, and we don’t make this decision lightly, but this will benefit everyone tremendously in the long term.
Thank you all for an amazing year of Mindshow in Early Access. With your feedback, we’ve been able to make Mindshow better and better over the course of the past year. With your support, we’re continuing to improve Mindshow as the best way the create and share shows in VR and beyond! Please let us know if you have any questions or comments, and we thank you all again for being an amazing community.
P.S: For those that need additional time, we can provide the previous build on a Steam beta branch to assist with your transition to the latest build over the course of September.
P.S.S: To celebrate all that you’ve done to date, stay tuned for information on…”Showmaggedon 2018 ™ “
