For the longest time, our dwarf pilot Tru and his dragon companion Ragna had their names proudly set in stone. But their mana-powered mech? For us, he was always just... the mech. đ
After dozens of updates and countless adventures, we thought it might finally be time to give our sturdy metal friend a proper name. And since heâs been part of your journeys just as much as ours - weâd love your help choosing it!
Weâve narrowed it down to two ideas:
Which one feels right to you? Or do you have a better idea? đ
Ever since the beginning of First Dwarf, our mech has been a constant presence - building, fighting, exploring, and saving colonies across the floating islands. To us, heâs always simply been âthe mechâ - a trusted companion you donât really think of by name. But lately we felt itâs time he finally got one.
So weâre turning to you, our community, to help make it official.
M.dverg mk.I sounds like something straight out of a dwarven workshop - practical, compact, and full of engineering pride.
Runebreaker mk.I, on the other hand, feels more ancient and mythic - a rune-forged construct designed to channel mana and push back the Taint.
The blueprint below should look familiar - youâve seen this mech in action across countless islands, taking hits so your colonies could thrive. Now itâs time to give him a name worthy of all those battles fought (and repaired parts replaced đ ).
Drop your vote or your own name idea in the comments. Weâll read them all (and argue about them in the office, guaranteed đ
).
Once the dust settles, weâll make the chosen name official in one of the next updates! âď¸đ§

We have now fixed this, and you're free to see and apply all the new cosmetics in your current playthrough. This hotfix is now live for PC players. We will update our console version as soon as it passes all checks. Thank you.
We were also able to fix the following bugs:

Savegames incorrectly redirect to game directory when running with admin privileges, bypassing Steam Cloud Sync.
The conversation prematurely ends upon selecting the dialogue prompt "There was no other way" in "IC to CH_Ryong_500_BakerKindred".

Greeting Carants! Â
Weâre quite keen on choices over here. Not only are they highly present within the story, but they extend to the gameplay, too â the game's difficulty, your playstyle, and even your key bind settings. Â
Here, weâll go over the options the game has that will either make your life easier or more challenging depending on your playstyle. These changes were made due to your feedback; created to give you more control, youâll now be able to play the way you want in our next major update. Â
Buckle up, and letâs get into it! Â
Choices on top of choices! My favourite meal.Â
When you first start a new game after the next update, youâll be given different playstyle options. Youâll be able to select the one that fits your needs the most â so make sure to read them carefully before selecting. Â
If youâre not enjoying the profile youâve selected, then fear not: you'll be able to change them at any time from the in-game menu.Â
Tactical:Â
This choice offers a more in-depth tactical experience, allowing you complete control over your companions and the battle. Activate or disactivate the Autonomous companion AI, freely control the camera, and use the tactical pause as needed. You can freely change the number of stackable actions too, if you so please. Â
Hybrid:Â
Perhaps a pure tactical style isnât for you, but you donât want to solely focus on your character. In this case, hybrid combat might be the best choice for you â activate and disactivate the Autonomous AI, give yourself partial control over the camera and tactical pause. And as with the Tactical option, you can change the number of stackable actions here too. Â
Focused:Â
And if neither of these fit the bill? Then thereâs the focused option. Autonomous AI will always be activated, allowing you to focus solely on your character whilst your companions take care of themselves. Youâll also have partial control over the camera, and the tactical pauseâs functions will be restricted. Â
Â
Behold how their puny arrows bounce off me! Â
So, youâve made your choice and are ready to jump to the next screen. More options will open to you here, allowing you to pick your difficulty. Story mode is perfect for those who want to cruise through the combat and enjoy the game for the story. Perhaps you like a more balanced approach: in that case, Adventure mode will suit you needs. If you're feeling more daring and want tougher battles, then give Tactical mode a whirl.
You can even customize this yourself through the sliders at your disposal. Perhaps you want to give yourself the edge through higher damage. Perhaps you want want to make the game as challenging as possible by giving your enemies higher damage. Itâs all in your hands â just make sure youâve stacked up on healing potions! Â
Want something more challenging? Feel like dodging both your allies and enemies? Then slap on friendly-fire and carefully position your characters on the battlefield so you donât hit each other. Itâll add a new layer to the tactical combat and really keep you on your toes.Â
Â
And if youâd prefer to focus on the story, companions, and romance without really touching the combat, you can make yourself immune to enemy attacks. Steamroll your way through battle and laugh at your enemies as they stand there, unable to do anything. After all, when arrows and axes bounce off you like nothing, what is there they can do? Â
Thereâs more on here than my Christmas wishlist.
After this, youâll jump into character creation and the game itself. There are more options you can tweak after watching the starting cutscene or in the gameâs opening menu. Â
SUBTITLESÂ
Want to change the subtitle language? Are you a linguist whoâd like to learn the nativesâ language as you go along? Or maybe youâd simply like to change the font size and add a background? This is where the Interface comes in. Pick what you need and set off on your adventure with the subtitles that suit you. Â
KEYBINDSÂ
If youâre a keyboard user, youâll also be able to change the key bindings to those of your preference under Game Controls. If, say, the sprint buttonâs location isnât to your liking, you can simply swap it out for another. This gives you the ability to play your way with the buttons youâre comfortable with. Â
CAMERAÂ
Thatâs not all. We heard your feedback: if you feel the cameraâs sensitivity needs adjusting, or that it just shakes a little too much, you can change it from Control Options. Â
Overwhelmed by choices, these NPCs chose to simply cower instead.
These are just some of the options youâll be presented with. Take your time to go through them all and pick what you need to make the game flow how you want. Â
Weâll see you very soon for the next major update, Carants. Weâre looking forward to you getting your hands on it! Â
