Ghost Bros is opening up play testing to the general public for a limited time. We want to test the core functionality of our game before moving on to implementing some higher level features. Help us hunt down bugs...er, I mean ghosts!
What to Expect
This version is very much a work in progress—built over 4 years by a single programmer who also works a full-time job. Pity him. Have mercy on him.
You may encounter:
Incomplete features
Missing polish or placeholder visuals
Technical issues and occasional instability
Cringy dialogue, like fr fr no cap.
These are expected at this stage and will help us identify areas to refine before the more open beta release.
Side effects may include:
Nausea, abdominal cramps, and FUN.
Please do not take Ghost Bros if you are allergic to Ghost Bros.
About the Current Build
You’ll notice some temporary “store-bought” assets you’ve probably seen in other horror games. (Yes, that same house with the rocking chair makes an appearance.) These will be replaced as development continues.
If you’d like to see where the game is headed, check out the “Coming Soon” area in game for a preview of future content and improvements. Or, join or Discord and hear from the developers:
We deeply appreciate your time, patience, and support. Your participation really helps a very small team bring Ghost Bros to life, and our dream to make ghost hunting games its own game genre.
—The Ghost Bros Development Team (Wahmpire and StageDragon)
(This game does have Steam Cloud functions, and your save files should still be there and working just fine after this update drops. If your save data becomes corrupted or wiped out, please tell me. This shouldn't happen.)
SPOILER WARNING
You might get spoiled by reading what updates were made, so be warned.

PARTY MEMBERS
INTEL's "manaminder" now costs 0 fire.
A bug on BO's "NUCLEARCHILD B-49" skill made the UI disappear was fixed.
MISS CLICK's blue attacks showed a yellow animation before.
TOXINA appears in Burger Queen now.
TOXINA can join your party without cheating now.
In 1 of the KEY events, you would get a KARIN quote without actually having the party member.
Now EGO appears at the end of the graveyard without BLOOD mode.
ENEMIES
MELASUDA's AoE attack dealt just 1 damage for some reason. i made it be a real attack now.
CHEAT CODES
4 new cheat code entries were added. They have no function but will say something cool to you.
("BAD", "BITCH", "BLASTE", "BADASS")
TITLESCREENS
added a titlescreen to ending no#08
MUSIC
The song played at the "lil house, small doggie" had to be changed.
I THINK there are seventeen songs not used anywhere in the game. So I'm removing them all. HOPEFULLY that won't break the game, right? I'm NOT forgetting about anywhere that plays these songs, right?
Since there are many unused songs (assuming i'm not stupid), I still want to showcase these songs anyway, by either a OST DLC or on Youtube or Spotify or something. That would be cool.
We decided to go all-out to make this the biggest building update we could! Brand new stone building, new wood variations, and tons of new decorations & furniture!

2 new signs let you label chests, create road markers, whatever you want!
And the best part? Both signs & map markers support RICH TEXT! That means you can use simple tags to change the text color, bold, etc. Such as:
<b>Bold</b> <i>Italic</i> <u>Underlined</u> <color=green>Green!</color>

Note on colors: Using rich text to change the color of the text will force it to render as that color. That means the text will no longer be effected by lighting & will glow in the dark!
You can now also place down map markers (which only cost 1 wood)!

You can now smelt items at the Forge for 70% of their main material cost (rounded in the players favor). Mithril items will also refund the Bottled Passion crafting item.

Another 10 new animations (2 new positions per companion)! Instead of adding 2 male positions or 2 female positions, we decided to add one of each.

This update included a lot of new assets, so I wanted to make sure to keep the game running smoothly with all of the new meshes & textures. After we spent a lot of time optimizing, I'm happy to say:
The game, even with all of these new assets, now uses 150mb less disk space.
In testing, using a 1.4.2 save file, we found that the game now uses less VRAM (GPU Memory) than it did before! Although exact results can vary depending on your GPU, Driver, Save file, etc. but it was true on the 2 computers we tested lol.
A lot of the optimizations were for buildables so hopefully players with large camps or houses will see a positive effect.
I really wanted to mention; this wouldn't have been possible without your support. Thanks to everyone I was able to buy a new PC. My old computer wasn't strong enough to use the memory diagnostics tool and run the game at the same time which slowed down work. But thanks to everyone who has picked up the game I was able to upgrade my GPU to a Nvidia 5070 ti & increase my RAM! This made measuring performance (and therefore optimizing) much faster.

Doubled the object load limit per frame for map spawners (Trees, Bushes, Ore, etc.). This will slightly decrease game loading time.
Added patreon button to the main menu & pause menu.
Added rainbow text effect to some of the buttons on the main menu.
Adjusted some existing design textures to better fit the game aesthetic.
Changed the default elf names to note their relationship.
Some achievement logic has been made asynchronous which will reduce CPU spikes when certain achievement logic is running.
Optimized memory usage of various buildables & some other textures.
Reduced game's file size by approximately 150mb.
Fixes
Fixed infinite save screen caused by placing down a buildable exactly as the auto save process starts. This bug was caused by the player being able to still use their build hammer while the game was saving. If the save process began & a buildable was placed down before it reached the stage where it saves buildables, it would cause the save process to break.
Fixed player being attacked by animals while in bed.
Funny Note:
We didn't plan to add exactly 69 buildables, we only found out the number after counting lol.

Hi gang! We made two updates the past week that fixes the broken equipment loot and have reworked the smithing system. During our Next Fest build, I've added more stats to the loot drops but used a 10x multiplier while testing. I've left it out during the Next Fest build that's why the equipment were so overpowered that it broke the game.
While we won't be deleting the obtained equipment, we might consider not carrying over the item saves to the EA release build. We'll try to give an special reward on release to compensate this. I'm terribly sorry!
Here are the patch notes:
Fixed overpowered loot drops from 10x multiplier to 1x
Loot bonus stat amount are now chance based vs always getting 4 every time ie. on legendaries.
Loot bonus stats are now percentage based only.
Reworked Smithing system so that bonus stats from equipment from both items will carry over to the result item.
Fixed equipment not displaying proper values. Previously on the UI it added extra values based off it's base value even if it's not the intended feature.
Added UI support to 16:10 aspect
Fixed: Chest opening not selecting open button when enabled
Improved Results UI relic navigation.
Fixed: Soft Lock when you're on the dialogue options and have selected the dialogue box.
Fixed: Defeating Mostra on high difficulties crashes the game.
New Runner Shooter enemy - keeps distance, fires fast green Firebolts, harder to kill, appears from Mission #5
Multiple Shooters per mission - expect crossfire and flanks
New player spawn locations - better map variety and early flow
AI spawner improvements - tighter control of timing, distance, and mix
Chem Gun - performance pass and a counting bug fix
Fireball optimization - lighter tick, improved hit handling
Content
- Added new Bettany relationship scene
- Added new Getz relationship scene
- New magic seeds that can be found in the world and farmed
- New recipes to use with the new magical produce
- New farm machine: Seed Maker - Turn produce into seeds, allowing you expand your farm without buying seeds
Bug Fixes
- Fixed a bug that made it impossible to interact with things in certain conditions
- Fixed a number of bugs that could corrupt data if exiting to title and starting/loading another game
- You can no longer lose your tools by putting them in a swap window and closing it
Hi everyone,
There's been a quick hotfix to address the issue where a shader acted incorrectly upon throwing a larva when TAA was disabled. The shader should now act correctly regardless of TAA setting. No other changes have been made in this patch.
Thank you for supporting Silly Polly Beast!
