EVE Online - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Lauren Morton)

Players started (figuratively) falling out of the sky in Eve Online late last month. Many couldn’t log in to the space faring MMO at all. Of those that could, plenty were unable to use the in game chat to coordinate with other pilots, which I’m given to understand is quite important for a space fleet. CCP Games say that stability is returning, but there are still players who are unable to log in over a week later.

EVE Online - EVE Online
Adventurous Capsuleers,

It's been an amazing 11 years since wormholes were first introduced as a feature to EVE Online as part of the Apocrypha expansion in March 2009, allowing Capsuleers to explore uncharted regions of space through those unstable gateways to the unknown. To celebrate this anniversary, and this amorous time of year, wormholes are receiving a loving update!

FROM WORMHOLES WITH LOVE

The main thrust of this update that will arrive next Tuesday is added connectivity. The chance of connections appearing between wormholes is going to increase greatly. Look out especially for added roaming connections between high class wormholes!

We’ve also made changes to a certain Drifter NPC who loved the Astrahus a little too much.

To further celebrate wormholes, EVE Online's New Eden Store will be running discounts on SKINs belonging to ships that are often used by Capsuleers in wormhole space. Starting at 25% off, there are offers on the Sisters of EVE One Eden Bundle, the Heron Zento Isidenko Combine SKIN and more. The sale starts at 11:00 UTC on 11 Feb and finishes at 11:00 UTC on 18 Feb.

GUARDIAN'S GALA

This year, the Guardian's Gala - the annual get together for the Angel Cartel and Serpentis pirates to celebrate their spoils - is not only taking place in k-space, but there will also be more challenging sites with more unique rewards in wormhole space! Running from 13 to 24 February, the rewards for Capsuleers who successfully gatecrash the outlaws' celebrations will include the new Savior Angel Cartel Logistics Implant Set.

INCREASED LOOT DROPS

In addition to the above, there will be a limited time increase in loot drops from PvP in wormhole space to coincide with the Guardian's Gala event. This will be happening between 13 and 24 February, so make sure you're ready for it!
EVE Online - EVE Online
Hello caring capsuleers!

On Wednesday, 15 January 2020 the PLEX for GOOD for the Australian Bushfires campaign got underway. In no time at all donations began rolling in, and players began organising their own PLEX drives and events to raise awareness and gather donations for the campaign.

The campaign concluded on Sunday, 26 January 2020 and now we’re happy to have some information for you about how this PLEX for GOOD turned out!

PLEX for GOOD is a charitable program operated by CCP Games on behalf of EVE Online players. It provides a way for EVE players to donate to a charitable cause through the use of the digital currency PLEX. There are many people who are quite wealthy in EVE Online but may not have much to spare IRL. PLEX for GOOD creates an opportunity for charitable giving for those who otherwise might not have the means to donate real money.

THE RESULTS
In the week after the campaign concluded we tallied up the total donations and were taken aback when we realised just how much the EVE community had raised:

An astonishing US$107,454 has been raised which far exceeded our predictions. To further put this amount in context, that equates to:
  • 2,687,693 PLEX
  • 448 years of game time
  • 9.14 trillion ISK worth of PLEX at current market prices
This makes PLEX for GOOD for the Australian Bushfires our second most successful campaign since the first PLEX for GOOD all the way back in 2005:
  • 2005 - $25,326 – South East Asia (Tsunami)
  • 2010 - $34,350 – Haiti (Earthquake)
  • 2010 - $38,900 – Pakistan (Monsoon)
  • 2011 - $44,600 – Japan (Earthquake and tsunami)
  • 2011 - $32,900 – United States (Hurricane Katrina)
  • 2013 - $190,890 – Philippines (Typhoon Haiyan)
  • 2015 - $103,650 – Nepal (Earthquake)
  • 2020 - $107,454 - Australia (Bushfires)
This campaign also brings the total raised for charity across all PLEX for GOOD campaigns to US$578,070 since 2005, an incredible feat which all EVE Online players can be proud of!

THE GENEROUS EVE ONLINE COMMUNITY
Of course we have to once again highlight the astonishing donation by Kelon Darklight who auctioned off the incredibly rare Gold Magnate he earned when the team he captained won the Amarr Championships at Fanfest in 2016. This exotic ship fetched a winning bid of 1,001,001 PLEX and once the auction concluded he immediately donated the full amount to PLEX for GOOD. His donation alone accounts for over a third of all the PLEX raised during the campaign and catapulted the total over the $100k mark.

Also deserving of special mention are all the players who organised and promoted public events to drive donations for PLEX for GOOD, such as the giant free-for-all brawl which brought together Australian timezone players from all over New Eden, or the Zirnitra kill event where over 1,000 players turned up to write themselves into EVE history by appearing on the killmail of the first Triglavian dreadnought to be destroyed in the game.

Then there was the two-day Raid-a-thon organised by the hard working team at Streamfleet which brought together dozens of EVE’s talented Twitch streamers to raise even more PLEX. Other valiant streamer efforts such as MyLeftArm's 24 hour stream and Squishy and the B-Team's drive that raised about 40k PLEX also helped the cause.

However, not everyone in New Eden has the means to donate or raise huge amounts of PLEX. The vast majority of donations made to this campaign were small, individual donations made by players who scraped together whatever they could and gave out of generosity of their hearts.

So whether you donated one million PLEX or one hundred PLEX is beside the point - ALL capsuleers who contributed to PLEX for GOOD can feel proud that they have made a contribution to an important cause, and the money raised will have a real, meaningful impact on those whose lives have been tragically affected by the destructive bushfires in Australia.

THE HANDOVER
CCP Games and the Icelandic Red Cross came together at CCP’s headquarters in Reykjavik to officially hand over the cheque for the money raised on behalf of the capsuleers of New Eden.

The Icelandic Red Cross sends their profound thanks to the players of EVE Online for this incredible display of humanity and generosity. They will now deliver the funds to their Australian Red Cross counterparts where it will in turn find its way to the relief services that are being provided on the ground to those affected.

THE REWARD
As with previous PLEX for GOOD campaigns, people who donated the minimum 100 PLEX will receive in-game apparel as a ‘thank you’ from CCP for their generosity. This will consist of two t-shirts (one mens and one womens) featuring the logo of the Reserve Frontier Safeguard (RFS) for your avatars to wear proudly:

The DED's Reserve Frontier Safeguard service, commonly known as the RFS or "Safeguarders", has its origins in a lowsec/nullsec frontier patrol operated using reservists from the member states of CONCORD. The RFS originally provided a security patrol presence in lowsec systems with planetary colonies and other orbital settlements. Since the expansion of CONCORD's mandate and permanent DED fleet capacity in YC105, the RFS has evolved into an organization focused on providing disaster relief to colonies across lowsec space.

Anyone who donated the minimum 100 PLEX will receive one pair of the shirts. At 500 PLEX you will receive two pairs and then an additional pair for every 500 PLEX donated after that.

Our art team is hard at work on preparing these assets and we hope to have them delivered to donors sometime in March. In the event that you made your donation as part of a collection being taken up by your corp, alliance, player group or other means where you won’t be directly credited for it, we will provide instructions about what you need to do at that time to ensure that everyone who is entitled to apparel receives theirs!

IN CONCLUSION
Unlike many of the disasters that PLEX for GOOD has assisted with, the Australian Bushfires were not a sudden, jarring event like an earthquake or a tsunami. It was something that built up slowly over a long period of time and it would be several months before the true scale of the disaster had manifested.

Embarking on this fundraiser, we were uncertain if it would attract as significant an amount of donations as we’ve seen in the past. By the time PLEX for GOOD for the Australian Bushfires began, the scale of the catastrophe in Australia had been headline news around the world for some time. We wondered if people had already given all they could through other means, or if the impact of the event had already begun to diminish in peoples’ minds.

What we’ve seen instead is one of the biggest PLEX for GOOD campaigns we’ve ever run, and once again we here at CCP have been humbled and moved by the capacity for caring, empathy and generosity that the EVE Online community possesses.

We want to acknowledge those in the community who began calling on CCP to bring back PLEX for GOOD to help with this disaster, and also the many others who rallied to those calls. Our players are a constant source of pride and inspiration to us here at CCP and we truly feel that is the greatest online gaming community that has ever existed.

Before we sign off, we want to leave you with a special message:

And also on behalf of everyone here at CCP: Thank you, capsuleers. o7

Skilled Capsuleers,

Bonus Skill Point Weekend is returning between 24 and 27 January 2020, with massive Skill Point rewards for both Alpha and Omega Clone State pilots! Log in daily to claim thousands of Skill Points that you can use to boost your training, honing combat skills that are great for the Fight or Flight Quadrant events.

As long as you make sure to log in every day during Bonus Skill Point Weekend, as an Alpha you can get up to 75,000 Skill Points, and Omegas will get both their own and the Alpha rewards, meaning a whopping 250,000 Skill Points total! Perfect for training those Triglavian skills and piloting the fearsome new Zirnitra Dreadnought.

If that isn’t enough to quench your thirst for Skill Points, then you’’ll be thrilled to hear that due to popular demand, the Skilling Spree will also be returning to New Eden! From 28 January to 2 March, pilots will receive one of three randomly selected challenges that offer either 10k, 25k, or a whopping 50k Skill Points as a reward for destroying NPC vessels.

Pilots will be rewarded upon completing the challenge, and a new one will be offered to them at the next daily downtime. If the challenge is not completed successfully, it will be replaced by another randomly selected challenge during the next daily downtime at 11:00 UTC.

USEFUL INFORMATION
Here are some clarifications for the Bonus Skill Point event:
  • Pilots can claim one reward (consisting of both one Alpha and one Omega reward depending on clone status) per day.
  • New Eden counts days from downtime to downtime. Rewards refresh at 11:00 UTC each day.
  • The day one reward is the first that a player can claim, regardless of which day of the event they claim it on. They then claim the day two reward the next day, and so on.
  • One set of rewards is available for every account in game.
  • One set of rewards is only available for Omega accounts - claiming this reward gives both the Alpha and Omega reward for that day.
  • Should an Alpha account upgrade to Omega at any point during the event, they will receive all Omega rewards retroactively for the days that they have claimed in the event so far.

HOW DO I CLAIM MY SKILL POINTS?
To claim your Skill Points, all you need to do is log in to EVE Online and follow these simple instructions on the character selection screen:
  • Click "Claim All" at the bottom of the highlighted day in the Daily Login Campaigns window.
  • You will then receive a confirmation that you've claimed the day's Skill Points.
  • You'll now see a "Redeemable Items" bar at the bottom of the screen, click it to expand it.
  • Your Skill Points are right there, simply drag and drop them onto the character you'd like to use them on.
  • As you drag and drop the Skill Points, you'll receive a confirmation that tells you they have been delivered to your character's unallocated Skill Point queue.

Australia is still burning, but over the last couple of days they’ve actually had some rain! While this is a big help to certain areas, there are still 83 fires blazing around the country, and there’s a lot of people and wildlife still in trouble. It’s good job then that there are even more game devs, companies, and communities banding together to help out our friends down under.

A new Humble Bundle, a donation from the makers of Warframe, and a charity initiative run by Eve Online players are just three more ways the games industry is raising money, and you can get involved to show your support too.

EVE Online - EVE Online
The start of the new year has seen EVE Online's first Quadrant - Fight or Flight - begin, and it is being marked by the release of the new Dragonaur Blitz event, as well as the Warhead Upgrades update.

Dragonaur Blitz

CONCORD urges you to join the Dragonaur Blitz and attack the extremist Templis Dragonaurs outcasts in Low-sec sites in specified ship types, and earn the new Nirvana Implant BPCs. This limited time event ends 27 January, so act fast and get involved!

As mentioned above, only certain ship types will be allowed entry to Dragonaur Blitz sites. These will include ships with bonuses to Heavy Missiles and recently rebalanced Caldari craft that are most affected by the Warhead Upgrades update (details below).

The Dragonaur Blitz event will also be your first opportunity as pioneering Capsuleers to earn blueprints for the new High and Mid-Grade Nirvana Implants. So, it's time to climb aboard the right ship, prepare for attack - as well as some surprises along the way - and hit the Templis Dragonaurs extremists for the honor of the Caldari State!

Warhead Upgrades

Lock onto your targets with the Warhead Upgrades update, which increases the damage dealt by Heavy Missiles in New Eden! The 5% increase to damage dealt by Heavy Missiles will encourage their use more often in future PvP encounters.

The update also sees the introduction of the exciting new Nirvana Faction Implants, which can provide bonuses to shield HP, as well as characteristics such as Perception, Memory, Intelligence, Charisma, and Willpower, depending on the implant used. These implants will initially be available only through the Dragonaur Blitz event, where ships that are most affected by the Warhead Upgrades update will be eligible for entry.

There is also a return to module tiericide with Shield Boosters. Siren fighters will also have their speed reduced by way of having their Microwarp Drives replaced with Afterburners.

Heat-Seeker Bundle

You can now get the Heat-Seeker SKIN Bundle in EVE Online's New Eden Store, featuring discounted SKINs for the ships most affected by Warhead Upgrades and suitable for Dragonaur Blitz! Kit out your Drake, Caracal, Cerberus and Tengu with SKINs from the bundle, or check out the other discounts on Zento Isideko Combine, Convergence and Snowline Bladeracer SKINs for these and other Caldari hulls.
