Dear players of the Blackthorn Arena, after more than a month of hard work, we are very happy to finally present the full official version of the Blackthorn Arena to every players! There are many changes from the EA version to the official version. We are not be able to list every single update one by one. We will only introduce some major new additions and updates. Although the old save files could still be working, we still highly recommend that players open a complete new start.

New content:

Brand new game mode ! Side missions:

After the plot develops to a certain stage, the game will open the function of sending gladiators to perform side missions outside the arena. There are four major types of missions: robbing caravans, capturing slaves, hunting monsters, and exploring for treasures. In addition, more than twenty maps for missions have been added. They have different styles, and some of them offer players the experience of exploration. By sending gladiators to perform these side missions, your gladiator will gain large reward such as capturing new slaves, gathering money and resources and even obtaining legendary equipments.

More than twenty kinds of new enemies:

We have added more than 20 kinds of new enemies (caravan guards, robbers, monsters, etc.) to the game, many of which are fierce monsters that will appear in the hunting monster mission. You can send gladiators to defeat and capture these beasts, bring them back to your own arena to host unique Venationes. Bizarre beasts will bring you huge amount of reputation and ticket income.

Lots of new equipment and items:

In this update, we added a large number of new equipment items, many of which can only be obtained through missions. We won't list them here, leave it to the players to discover.

The character model has been completely reworked:

We re-created all the basic character models used in the game in higher definition. In addition, we have added a lot of new hairs and face prints to offer players more choices when customizing characters.

Significant sound improvements:
We have improved the sound performance of the entire game, adding new ambient sounds, gladiators and UI sound effects. Now, the sound effects of the game don't sound so dull.

The overall optimization of the game:

We have optimized the game in many ways. Now the memory consumption of the game has been significantly reduced, 8G memory can run stably and smoothly. In addition, we have optimized and improved a number of scenes that previously had frame drops, and now the frame rates of these scenes can be stabilized in an ideal range.

More updates:

1) At the request of many players, we have added 4k resolution and two widescreen resolutions.

2) Three types of material traders were added to the three black markets.

3) A new gladiator appearance animation (before the battle start) has been made, and the gladiator appearance animation can now be skipped.

4) Re-entered the entrance lens of each arena.

5) We have added some interaction between the gladiator and the players in player's arena.

6) In addition to the content listed above, this update also has a large number of unmentioned bug fixes and detail improvements.

Localizations and Mac version :
our originally planned multi-language localization will be added to the game in the next one month. At the same time, the MAC version of the Blackthorn Arena will also be released in two weeks.

Thank you for all of your support as always! We've just updated a small hotfix patch, and now the game has entered a relatively stable version.
Currently, we plan to launch an official version of the Blackthorn on May 19. Due to the abundance of new content and the long production cycle, unfortunately, we may not update the new content before the official release, but we will still launch hotfixs based on players' feedback and BUGS.

The new content of the official version will included but will not be limited to the following:
1) Send your gladiators to perform tasks outside the Arena area.

2) More than 20 new battle maps outside the Arena area, some of which will be exploratory.

3) More than a dozen of new enemies.

4) More than a dozen pieces of new gears.

5) The character model will be completely remade, and the new character model will become more HD and detailed.

6) A large number of optimizations and additions to sound effects.

7) Seven localized languages will be supported! (French, German, Italian, Russian, Korean, Spanish, Japanese).

8) The overall optimization of the game.

9) Add more details and so on.

However, please understand that the release of the official version does not represent the termination of game development.
We're launching the official version because the game's content is fairly complete and has good playability and stability.
After the launch of the official release, we will continue to develop new content for the game with everything free. We have no plans to launch any DLC.
We can guarantee that the maintenance of this game will last a long time.

8) A Portraits folder has been added to the game installation directory.Players can put their custom portraits in it. These portraits will appear in the options when the player starts a new game to create an avatar. The standard size of a portrait is 400x500 pixels. If the size does not match, the image may appear stretched or blurred. In addition, it is recommended to put another small square sized portrait picture with the name of the portrait and "_square" in the end of the picture's name at the same time ( For example, Player put a picture named " Portrait" for avatar, it is recommended that he put another square sized picture with the name of "Portrait_square" at the same time so our system can match these) . Both Png and Jpg format are supported.

PS: Old archive could not support portrait change, player must open a new archive.

Major Update for March 22nd.


Bug fixed:

1) Fixed several bugs related to the tag match, now tag match will spawn at arenas as before.

2) Fixed a bug that could cause player cannot leave the blackmarket after sold a slave.

3) Fixed a bug where the icons of Exhibition and Tournament were reversed in World Map.

4) Fixed a bug related to bankruptcy event.

5) Fixed the bug that the shortcut button in the shortcut bar in the first battle was not clickable if player enables the automatic pause.

6) Fixed a bug where gladiators did not properly remove from their post (such as chef, blacksmitch, doctor etc.) when they fell into a coma due to their health decrease.

7) Fixed some bugs of text display on UI.

8) Fixed a bug where the story match could be participated before it actually happened.


Improvements:

1) Now, players can choose two genres for a role that they created/edited in the role libarary.

2) When started a new game, players are able to choose two characters from the role library.

3) Added a cooldown time display to the skill slots in the action bar.

4) Made some small improvements to the UI of the management interface.

5) Improved the weapon's attack buffering range and now makes it easier to hit enemies with one-handed weapons.

6) Added an option to disable manual combat when starting a new game. When checked, the player's gladiator will always be controlled by a computer and this option cannot be changed.

7) Optimized the loading logic and increased the loading speed. Now the loading time of the game is shorter overall.

8) Added a button to browse and purchase goods from markets in your own arena, but you need to pay a 10 silver errand fee for this, no matter how many items you buy.

9) Players can now choose a research direction for their chef, doctor, and blacksmith while researching for recipes.

New content:

1) New chapter:

We present a whole new chapter for Blackthorn Arena ! This storyline will take place after the spring game and before the Grand Venations show. The legendary orc master has come to freeland! He will set up his own arena, and lead a group of brutal half-orc gladiators across all other arena. If the player is strong enough, the orc master will also fight the player in person!

2) New Arena :



With the arrival of the orc master, there will be a new arena in the game. It will host its own competition like other arena and will also accept the challenge from players. The difference is that all the gladiators in this arena are Orcs!

3) New enemies :


The orc master has 17 orc gladiators with different styles and unique skills. They will become strong enemies for players in the middle and late game period.

4) New legendary helmet :

This helmet originally belonged to the orc master, defeat it and claim your reward!

5) 6 new steam achievements

New Functions:
1) Feasting:
A Feast button has been added to the Main hall scene. Players can use this button to spend one day and double the cost of daily diet to restore twice the health and morale of all gladiators, and each gladiator has a 50% chance to gain a single point of obedience.

2) Battle practice:
Add a Practice button to the training ground. After pressing, players can select two gladiators to perform a practice battle in the octagon cage on the training ground. Players can control one of the gladiators. It ends when players defeat opponent. However, players can exit at any time.

3) Added a death memorial system to the treatment room:
Clicking on the Dead list button in the treatment room will now open a panel to browse all dead gladiators. Dead gladiator's icon, name, cause of death and time of death will be all displayed on it.


Balanced adjustment:

1) We have made a huge change to the battle mode, the purpose is to slightly increase the battle time, slower the battle pace while making the battle more strategic and ornamental.
The specific changes are as follows:

1. The three fighting styles have been differentiated, and each fighting style has distinctive characteristics:

- Aggressive style:
The character will attack the opponent with 100% attack frequency. Characters will immediately launch the next attack if they have enough stamina and are not in attack cooldowns.

- Cautious style:
The character will attack the opponent with 75% of the attack frequency, however, the accuracy of the attack is increased by 25%.

- Defensive Style:
The character will only attack the opponent with 50% of the attack frequency, however, the dodge and block rate will increase by 25% from the original.

At the same time we also introduced a new fighting style: Retention Style

- Retention Style:
In this mode, the character will attack the opponent with 100% of the attack frequency, but when the Stamina drops below 25%, the character will no longer launch the attack, and will not continue to attack at 100% frequency until the Stamina recovers above 75%.

2. All weapon-based skills will be restricted by the attack interval. In other words, it is not possible to cast a weapon skill immediately after performing a normal attack, but have to wait until the cooldown of the normal attack is over.

3. The initial maximum Stamina of the character and the maximum Stamina bonus provided by the equipment are all halved. Now the aggressive combat style can only burst a shor amount of time.

2). Reduced the attribute requirements of most skills so plays have less restrictions on building their gladiators.

March 6th Hotfix Patch:

BUG fixed:

1) Fixed the bug that the duration and description of some buff are displayed incorrectly when players are hovering their mouse those buff.

2) Fixed a bug that caused the character to get stuck when being stunned while climbing the rope.

3) Fixed a bug that gladiators' hair is displayed incorrectly while they returning from dispatched battles.

4) Fixed a bug where "set effect" of equipment (5 sets) sometimes is not displayed.

5) Fixed a bug that gladiators can still equip off-hand weapons while equipping two-handed weapons under certain circumstances.

6) Fixed the lack of weight (light, heavy) hints in the set display.

7) Fixed the bug that when players viewing the gladiator panel, the shortcut key modification did not actually show on the shortcut bar UI. (players change the shortcut for skills but the UI in skill bar remains unchanged.)

8) Fixed a bug where a set occupying multiple equipment bars (such as Blackthorn arena set) did not disable the occupied equipment bars properly in some cases.

Improvements:

1) Players can now check their slaves' equipment and attribute while in the black market by clicking on the character icons.

2) Added an option to disable specific traps in the arena.

3) Added an option to automatically pause at the beginning of the battle.

4) Added a camera switch tutorial in the first game.

5) Now in free camera mode, the camera will initially follow the character. If the WASD key is pressed, or the camera is moved by edge scrolling, the camera will stop following character.

6) Complete the Chinese translation of the champions' names.

7) A few visual improvements have been made to the Champions Set of Desolation Fortress and Bloodsand.


Balance adjustment:

General:

1) Due to some factors of instability, we temporarily disable the generation of tag fights. We will improve and release this battle mode in the next patch.

Major Update for March 1st:

Bug Fixed:

1)Fixed a rare bug where the Gladiators' Ragdoll status would get stuck after death.

2)Fixed a bug where players could only exit and restart the game after encountering a black screen. ( Now if you encounter a black screen, you can restore it directly by loading the recent archive without exiting the entire game).

3)Fixed a bug where the description of Dual weapon's skill ( Two swords one brain) was written in"increase dodge" instead of "increase block rate".

4)Fixed a bug where learning Marksman's skill (Never off hand) and increasing the level of three(Light, Medium, Heavy) "armor expert" skills will not recalculate characters' weight.

5)Fixed a bug that Gladiator skill ( "Kill Desire") is not working properly.

6)Fixed a bug that caused NPC ’s arena influence to be abnormal due to the challenge mode.

7)Fixed the bug that using Amnesia Potion could obtain extra potential points.


Improvement :

1) Now in the character attributes panel, the basic attributes of characters and bonus attributes (Extra points from gears or food buff) are displayed separately

2) Gladiators that are currently participating in matches cannot be executed and sold.

3) Now that the map has a tooltip, you can hover the mouse over the tooltip to extend the specific information of each game.

4) Change the default battle camera to Free camera mode, however, players can switch camera mode anytime in "Gameplay" of the options menu.

5) Repack all model assets for all arenas, to make the game size on hard drive smaller.

- Greed for death: When the character's health is full, the damage is increased by 5%, however, when the character's health is below 50%, the volition is reduced by 10.

- Rebellion: The chance of increasing loyalty is reduced by 25%, and will have a 25% chance to lose an extra point of loyalty when losing loyalty.

- Hard work: Experience gained from training increased by 50%.

- Handedness: Critical Rate is increased by 3% when the character is holding a single weapon.

- Steady hand: Accuracy is increased by 6 when the character is using a ranged weapon.

- Balanced: Attack speed is increased by 8% when the character is using a polearm weapon.

- Strong grip: Stamina's cost of blocking reduced by 5% when the character is using a shield.

5) Designed unique traps or terrain obstacle mechanisms for most arenas, making the battlefield more dangerous.

6) Set effect system: Equipment has a Rare (blue) or above rarity will now have a set effect.

7) Two new rules of matches!

- Tag match: Similar to the rules of traditional fighting games (such as The King of Fighters), the two sides send 2-4 gladiators, but only one on one at a time, the next gladiator immediately enters the fight after the current friendly gladiator is defeated.

- Throne challenge: Multiple teams will participate in the throne challenge. The winning team will become the Throne leader, while the other teams become challengers and will take turns to challenge the currently Throne leader. The teams will play in random order.

8) Legendary champions and Legendary weapons!
Each arena will now have a very powerful champion, while more than ten legendary (orange) weapons with unique effects will be added to the game and assigned to each arena champion! These champions will have a chance to appear in competitions in various arena, and become the most powerful enemy of players. In addition, players can continuously challenge each of the arenas to eventually challenge their strongest champion. Players could earn their legendary weapon as a reward by defeating the strongest champion in the challenge.

Legendary Weapons:
- Wind whisper: Ranged attacks have a significant knockback effect.

- The golden strike: 10% chance to stun enemies for 2 seconds while attacking

- Osilel's root: immune to any knockdown effects.

- Smaragdus's squama: Blocking a projectile has a 25% chance to bounce the projectile back to the opponent.

- Bone crasher: Attack has a 25% chance to fracture opponents, reducing the target's attack speed and movement speed.

- The emerald thorn: Expose weaknesses will stack twice at a time.

- Osseydy's sacrificial dagger: Whenever an enemy is killed, the dagger will be blessed by Osseydy, causing 25% increased damage for 8 seconds.

- Khal Della: Character with no shield equip in the hand has an 18% chance to disarm opponent for 2 seconds while blocking.

- Fisherman's end: Each attack will cause bleeding damage.

- Barrier Breaker: Attack has a 25% chance to break the block.

- Rubrumors's fury: Attack will grant an additional 5 fire damage to the enemy.

- Irous' chosen: Each time character taking damage will have a 20% chance to grant an Irous blessing buff which will restore the character's health by 15 in 3 seconds.

- Peacelander's arrogance: Critical arrows will penetrate the target.

Feb 21th Hotfix:


BUG fix:

1) Fixed the bug that the already started competition can still participate when the world map is opened and players clicked the "next turn" button at the same time.

2) Fixed a bug where the block would be ignored in subsequent normal attacks after using the ignore block skills.

3) Fixed a bug where players could still participate in other matches from the arena list on the same day of the story match (such as Spring games, the Grand Venations, etc).

4) Fixed a bug where the ejection arrows' damage would be increased with the number of ejections.

Dear Blackthorn Arena player:
Hello everyone, starting from this week, we will focus on adding new content (new systems, new equipment, new mechanisms, new genres, etc.) as well as fix a few minor bugs. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please feel free to leave your comments below. We will try our best to improve as soon as possible.


PS: Dear players, we have just improved the way game resources are packaged so that the volume of subsequent updates and the disk space occupied by this game are as small as possible, however, the downloads of this and the next major updates will be fairly large. We apologize for any inconvenience that may cause you. Thank you for your understanding.

BUG fix:

1) Fixed a bug where characters with "benevolence" and "cruelty" did not correctly increase obedience when the player chose the opponent's life or death.

2) Fixed an animation error after the lizard man was stunned.

3) Fixed a bug where some monsters were not correctly translated into Chinese when players held Venations.

4) Fixed a bug where the "Trace Arrow" skill did not properly apply Debuff to the target.

5) Fixed an issue where the Execute Shoot's additional damage was incorrect.

6) Fixed a bug where Evasion could not properly transfer the target's hatred.

7) Fixed a bug where the skill "Break free" in the duelist genre could not properly remove the movement restriction effects.

Improvements:

1) The crafting page now shows the required skill levels.

2) Add a cancel button where players could cancel the treatment process in the treatment room.

3) Improved the buff's information display, now you can see more specific information through it.

4) Improved display of skill requirements. Skills will now display information such as genre not learned, required attribute points and levels.

5) Added some missing UI localization (in Chinese).

6) Improved the layout of gladiator tooltip pannel. Make it more legible.

7) The Action Bar will now be displayed when viewing the details of the Gladiator (originally only displayed when viewing the Skill item).

8) Reduced the duration of floating text when the skill is released.

New Content:

1) Added a new guard system:
Many players must have noticed that the main Hall, training ground, treatment room, torture chamber, and the smithy all have corresponding functions. Only the gladiator cells look superfluous. Well, here it comes.

Guard system: A guard column has been added to the gladiator's cell. Players can hire guards to manage their gladiators in order to reduce the frequency of gladiators trying to escape.
Gladiators with low loyalty may launch riots or escape now. If the guard failed to stop them or been defeated, the gladiator will escape forever!

2) Add two new genres :

- Berserker: Berserker's fighting style is very wild and aggressive. In their battle, they ignored their own safety and attacked their opponents madly. They often fight more and more bravely and will be the most dangerous enemy when they are on the verge of death.

- Marksman: Unlike Rangers, Marksman is very good at sniping enemies from a long distance. They rarely miss arrows and can cause many negative effects on opponents. However, the marksman will be extremely vulnerable after being approached by the enemy.

3) Added the feature of removing traits: the torture chamber can now remove the negative traits of the character through torture, however, it will consume a long time and gladiators' health.

4) Added material system: Now almost all blacksmiths, chefs and doctors need certain materials to craft their recipes. These materials can be obtained by participating in competitions or purchased from street merchants.

5) Added 7 new recipes to the chefs for research: their materials need to be killed by different monsters in the Venations.

6) Added a Death immune potion recipe to the doctor, which will avoid the next complete death in battle after drinking.

7) Added a Loyalty potion recipe to the doctor, which will increase gladiators'
Obedience after drinking.

8) Added an Amnesia Potion recipe to the doctor, which will return all potential points and skill points spent on weapon skills and genres for that gladiator after drinking.

9) Add some pictures to the events.

Balance adjustment:

General:

1) Improve the Genre skill system:
The original genre skills need to learn a pre-skill to unlock, but we found that there is no obvious logical relationship between many skills and their pre-skills.
This kind of dependency is not reasonable and will cause players to waste their skill points on completely unused skills. Now, we have eliminated the pre-skill requirements of all genre and changed them to the requirements of levels and attributes.
Such changes make the game's point system more balanced and more reasonable

2) New Weight system and Weight penalty:
Medium and heavy gladiator armors will no longer increase stamina exertion and reduce movement speed. Instead, it will be replaced by a weight system. All the equipment of the gladiator will increase the weight of the gladiator. When the gladiator's weight exceeds 25% of the total weight, the movement speed, stamina savings, and dodge would get reduced. The higher the weight, the higher the penalty. Strength attributes can increase the weight of a character.

3) Players will now see the winning probability of the Venations and exhibition match on the battle interface, however, players will no longer be able to send gladiators to participate in the league.

4) Slightly increased the winning probability when players send gladiators to participate in the Venations.

5) Improved the calculation method of the winning and losing ratio of sending gladiators to participate in matches

6) Gladiators now have a chance to reduce their loyalty if they participate in matches if their health is less than 50% or morale below 30%. The lower the status, the higher the chance.

7) Increased damage resistance cap from 75% to 85%.

8) The buff gained from special foods are nerfed, and the buffs from multiple foods will not overlap. The buffs gained from the last food will overwrite those from the previous food.

9) Increased the chance that a gladiator will acquire the corresponding trait after killing various types of monsters.

10) All NPC gladiators will receive certain attribute bonuses in Chapters 2 and 3 (After the Spring Game). The bonus value will be depended on difficulty.

Monster:

1) The Minotaur is now counted as a large enemy.

Skill:

1) One-handed weapon:
- Gale combo damage has been increased to 90% / 100% / 110% weapon damage,
- Gale combo will now sprint towards the target.

2) Rouge:
- Light armor masters will now reduced the weight of light armor by 20% / 30% / 40%.

3) Gladiator:
- Medium armor master will now reduce the weight of medium armor by 20% / 30% / 40%.

4) Defender:
- Heavy armor master will now reduce the weight of heavy armor by 20% / 30% / 40%

Items:

1) Roast Suckling pork:
- Reduced the health recovery rate gained from 0.5 to 0.1.
- Reduced the Stamina gained from 2 points 1.

2) Venison in cinnamon sauce:
- Reduced Stamina gained from 2 points to 1

3) Mock turtle soup: A
- Added materials requirements for the recipe.
- Now it only provides 6% physical resistance. (was 10% physical resistance and 0.2 Hp recovery before)

4) Mushroom fish soup :
- Added materials requirements for the recipe.
- Reduced the Precision gained from 2 points to 1.

5) Buttermilk honey cake:
- Remove the intelligence gained. ( 2 intelligence before)

6) Kale fish:
- Only provide a 10% critical strike multiplier now. ( was 1 agility, 1 accurate and 25% critical strike multiplier before) .

7) Grilled salmon row:
- Remove the health recovery gained ( was 0.3 health recovery before)

Greeting, thanks for supporting our game. As always, the following content contains lots of updates and bug fixed.

Note:
We have recently resolved a very stubborn bug with the wrong character ID. This bug may cause: Mysterious people appear in the player ’s gladiator arena, a "traitor" suddenly appears in one of the gladiator games (Players/NPC ' gladiator will attack teammates), and the player ’s gladiator upgrade will automatically add skill points and other weird events.
Now, the newly created characters will get rid of this bug after the update, but unfortunately, all the archives before this update may still leave this bug.
To this end, we have added a bug fix command in the console, please follow these steps to repair your archive:

1. Load the archive you want to repair.

2. Press " ` " to open the game console.

3. Enter the "SaveFix();" command to repair your archive.

4. If the repair is successful, you will get a new archive with renamed " Fixed". If the repair fails, you will get a failure prompt. Your old save files can still be used even with this bug being unfixed, however, if you want a more complete gaming experience, we strongly recommend that you restart a game if the repair fails.

Note: Earlier archives would have a better chance to get successfully repaired. Some longer archives may not be repairable due to the complexity of the BUG situation, and we apologize deeply for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Bug Fixed :

1) Fixed a bug where passive abilities of some weapon types could be applied to other weapon types.

2) Fixed a bug where Blacksmith couldn't research the recipe of the champion sets.

3) Fixed a bug where monster butcher boots had only shows 1% for all types of resistance.

4) Fixed the bug that the polearms and dual weapon skill of the characters created in the role library were displayed incorrectly.

5) Fixed a bug where the match would not start successfully after clicking "start" button

6) Fixed some minor bugs in the UI display.

Improvement:

1) Added a shortcut button for switching weapons above the shortcut bar.

2) The setting of " only on action bar " can now be saved.

3) Added a setting for the upper limit of the number of auto-save. Now the default upper limit of auto-save is 10.

4) Players can now send gladiators to participate in a match without attending in person.
This feature will allow players to send gladiators to participate in multiple matches in one round.

Balance adjustment:

Monster

1) Troll
- Health increased from 600 to 700
- Health regeneration increased from 4 to 5.

2) Centaur (Ranged)
- Health reduced from 425 to 380.
