BATTALION: Legacy - bhaus

With the inclusion of the new casual game mode ‘Headquarters’ into our Summer Season Update, we’re looking to expand!

x2 New Maps
You may have shook, rattled and rolled with the best of them but our true aim is to see how well we can cater your casual experience. In light of this we’ll be adding 2 extra maps to HQ for you to sink your muddy boots into. Combining the power of the Russian armoury with our relentless HQ mode will give the Axis a true test as you fight your way across the snowy streets of Vanguard and the hotly contested railways and bunkers of Goldrush!

For those who have recently joined us, here’s a quick run down of the gamemode.
In this mode, teams must capture and hold a set point (HQ) that is randomly spawned in the map.. The longer it is held, the more points that team gains. However, the team that holds the headquarters only has 1 life each until the objective is either successfully defended or overrun by the ever respawning enemies!

The best HQ players will coordinate with their team to enforce an ironclad defensive perimeter around a captured headquarters in order to hold it.

With a full week of HQ already under your belt, we don’t doubt you’ve devised a daring divulsion for attacking the enemy and holding down what's rightfully yours and can’t wait to see your approach on our new maps.

We’re constantly looking for feedback and suggestions as we work towards our Mid Season Patch which will include weapon balances, map changes and the likes, alongside the highly anticipated Autumn Season. We can’t wait to hear your opinions moving forward.

Have a great week comrades!

BATTALION: Legacy - bhaus

First and foremost, hello! Hello to faces fresh and familiar, from humble beginnings to pastures new. My name is Aaron Baker and I have recently been granted the unmissable opportunity to work closely with Battalion 1944 and Bulkhead Interactive as their (and more importantly your) Community Manager.

But what does that mean?

As the new Community Manager I will have the undeniable pleasure of interacting closely with you, the players, for the foreseeable future of Battalion 1944 and future titles. Whether you’re casual, competitive or constantly on the grind - your opinions, views and general well being fall under my jurisdiction. Your experience within our wonderful and ever expanding game is my experience, and it's my responsibility to help, relay and resolve any issues you may face.

Together we have an exciting opportunity to redefine and reevaluate the scape of team shooters from the ground up. Assess feedback and apply the necessary action so that the team here at Bulkhead can create an environment and community to be proud of.

Where do we go now?

The future for Battalion is as intriguing as it is exciting. Moving forward, we're looking to keep supporting Battalion with updates, tournaments, special events, and more content. My firm belief is that community and commonwealth hold the key to a solid foundation in which to prosper organically and will make it my utmost responsibility to cater across the board to help you guys do what you do best - play.

What do those responsibilities entail?

You lot sure do ask a lot of questions.. But that's the point! Its my main focus to be there at the communities beckon call. Boots on the ground, in the trenches, helping and maintaining all those in need. A humble community medic if you will. The first point of contact for all your Battalion needs.

This isn’t to say that the developers like Brammer or Howard don’t plan on being on the frontlines, you’ll still see them in-game and being just as attentive as before, but now they’ll be able to focus a little harder on the day to day game work, whilst I relay back all the gripes, bugs, suggestions and ideas from you guys!.

On top of the general day to day and communicative roles come the tasks of content creation, from simple tutorials for new players all the way up to interesting and exciting events both online and offline for your palpable gaming tastebuds. This could be as mild as helping new tournament organisers find a foothold within the scene or a spicy new event in a number of regions to see the best teams battle it out to reign supreme.

Regardless of what's in the pipeline you can be sure that Battalion is entering a new era with the approachability to match. At the end of the day, our game, is your game and I’m just excited as you to see what the future holds.

How do we contact you?

Contacting me is as easy as can be, through various avenues I’ll be sure to reply on the likes of Twitter and Reddit via @rekabnoraa, though if social media isn’t your thing then feel free to get in touch through the Official Battalion Discord or message me directly - baker#0910.

I look forward to hearing from you all very soon, but first let's kick off this new relationship with something to wet those Wartide whistles. Head over to my twitter, say hello and give my pinned tweet some love. Help me get to know some new faces so I can better help our wonderful community grow. For every 50 retweets I'll even giveaway some of the new Gladiator war chests!

Thanks everybody
Aaron!

Summer Season Update
Hey all! We’re thrilled to be taking the first step in our long term support of Battalion 1944, starting with our first seasonal update that launches RIGHT NOW!

We’re calling this release the ‘Summer Season Update’.

This season will run for 2 months (along with a mid season balance update half way through!) and come with a whole host of community requests features and tweaks!

NEW Gamemode: Headquarters

Our new casual gamemode 'Headquarters' is great fun for all types of players.

We can’t wait to see how players find ways to master this new fun gamemode!

The Gladiator Upgrade

Support Battalion’s ongoing development and invoke the strength and ruthlessness of Roman
Gladiators by adorning your weaponry with the markings of these ancient warriors.

The Gladiator’s Upgrade Pack is a limited time release which will be in stores until X Date.
Every purchase contributes directly to Battalion’s ongoing development. The Gladiator’s
Upgrade contains:
  • One Exclusive NEW Supporters Knife
  • Ten NEW Gladiator War Chests
  • The Battalion 1944 Digital Soundtrack

Players have been asking for a way to support Battalion 1944’s ongoing development costs - so as a reward for those who choose to help the future of Battalion as a franchise we’re giving everyone who picks up The Gladiators Upgrade will receive a brand new and exclusive ‘supporters’ knife with an inscription highlighting them as Battalion 1944 supporter.
We thank you all for your continued support and look forward to bringing many more updates to Battalion 1944!

You can purchase The Gladiators Upgrade on Steam for 33% off this week here.

The Gladiator War Chest
The Gladiators Warchest contains one skin for every primary weapon currently in the game, all themed around the Romans. Also hidden away deep within this regal chest is an incredibly rare item, the first ever knife added to Battalion 1944… The Gladiator Knife!

There are three ways to get these skins:

  • You can purchase them in-game by clicking 'Buy War Chests'
  • Buy 'The Gladiator DLC' on Steam and you'll receive 10 Gladiator War Chests AND the Limited Time Supporters Knife!
  • By hitting rank 100 in Season 5 of BattleRank, every rank after 100 will drop 1 Gladliator War Chest!

    Adding Knives

This update brings our first 'new item' to your inventory and to the marketplace. We wanted to bring more high value items into the fold, enter knives. Whilst this update does not yet contain knife inspects, our Autumn Season Update will give you ample opportunity to show off your new knife collection.

BattleRank Season 5 - Double the Size!
As our seasons now last 2 months, we have doubled the amount of rewards in Season 5 to 21. The rewards are spread across 100 ranks instead of 50. Once you reach level 100, every time you rank up (101, 102 etc) you will receive one of the new Gladiator War Chests!

Take a look at the skins in BattleRank Season 5

    Rework of Competitive Maps

Map design is a clear area for improvement in Battalion 1944. That's why we'll be pulling Invasion, Docks, and Savoia from the competitive pool for Season 5. We will gradually reintroduce these maps, beginning with Invasion, which is aimed to be tested in our first mid season patch in one months time. We will heavily be involving the community in the map design process. Invasion's rework is being streamed regularly on our lead dev Brammertron's twitch channel.

    What's next?

    Community Manager Starting Next Week!
Next week our community manager will be joining us and getting into the nitty gritty parts of the community! But don't worry, we want to keep a really strong connection between the devs and the players.

    Summer Mid Season Update
The mid season patch gives us an opportunity to change any meta and balancing issues. It also allows us to test out a new map rework. On September 2nd 2019, we will push a game update that amongst other things will contain the ‘new rework’ for Invasion. The map will not be added to the competitive pool straight away but it will enter Unranked 5v5 in the Special Event queue. The idea is that this gives the community a whole month to test out our rework of Invasion and let us know what changes need to be made. Then, when the Autumn Season Update lands at the start of October, we will push the final version live to the game and Invasion will be re-added to the official competitive circuit (FACEIT). We believe this is the best way for us to improve one of our biggest issues, map design. Actively working with the community to solve their issues.

    Autumn Season (Season 6)
The Autumn will begin in the first week of October 2019. this does not mean that we won't be updating the game.

    One Year Roadmap

BATTALION: Legacy - KingHoward

Battalion 1944’s launch was a huge success.
Success we knew the game had the potential to have - but couldn’t quite believe ourselves when it started to happen. We have smashed sales expectations, smashed player count expectations (1000 peak was the dream) and recently raised our review score from Mostly Negative to Very Positive. This was done through hard work and absolute support from our community. However - there’s one question that’s on everyone’s lips.

“What’s next?”

We’re doubling down on Battalion 1944. This success has meant ‘post release’ plans have taken a little longer than we would have wanted to spin up, prepare and announce. However, with our belief in this project we’re reinvesting back into Battalion to turn this IP into a long term top tier FPS.

We know Battalion 1944 can be better.
We know the game isn’t perfect.
We echo the same wants & needs as you because we are players too!

We’re a growing independant studio. We have made mistakes, we wear our hearts on our sleeves and we respond as earnestly and honestly as we can about development to our players because this game is something more than just another FPS - Battalion 1944 is the last remaining chance we have as gamers to keep the raw thrill of a skilled and competitive fast paced FPS relevant within this rapidly changing landscape.

Our publishing friends at Square Enix Collective understands that significance and will be helping us support this community every step of the way. Battalion 1944’s success has sent a message that this style of FPS is something that can thrive within the modern era - and with love, polish, time & your continued support over the next few years - we can take Battalion to where we aim it to be in the long term.

In the short term however - some players want more content, some players want map redesigns, some players want overall polish and stability, some players want the competitive scene to grow with leagues and tournaments to play for...

We have a plan to deliver on ALL of those wishes.

We’ve been reading every single piece of feedback since launch and have worked to create a roadmap with a bunch of new content, gamemodes, polish and fixes that address all of these concerns.

This is why we’ll be releasing a development roadmap very soon - prior to the launch of BattleRank Season 5!

We’ve doubled down our investment into Battalion 1944 by expanding our development team significantly purely for this post release content and we can’t wait to share our plans with you.

Focusing on the Big Picture - New & Casual Player Experience
The goal with the upcoming roadmap is not to be worrying about, or trying to force, the player base to grow too early - it's about making Battalion 1944 a better game throughout the next year, so that when we do free weekends and sales and new players flood back into the game at key points - they get an even better experience than the update before.

Every single update we’re going to be focusing on improving that new player & casual player experience, which coincidently will mean huge quality of life improvements for existing hardcore players. This will mean more content, more players and more polish based on your feedback. Making sure players feel like they can transition from new players, to casual players, to competitive players and eventually beginning their path to pro is very important to us. This means helping new players get to grips with the game is our number one priority and focus with new features and development.

It will take time to shape Battalion 1944 into this ideal package, meaning we need our existing playerbase to have faith and commit to playing through the lulls to keep Battalion 1944 healthy and strong. That way, when we arrive at those key dates and we market & push the game infront of new players, they want to stick around and continue to help grow Battalion 1944.

Competitive Roadmap Begins
Battalion 1944 managed to capture the hopes and dreams of young and veteran FPS lovers worldwide. We will be growing the competitive side of the game at the same rate as Battalion’s potential, which will grow ever bigger as development & support continues for years to come.
We’re currently in the process of organising Battalion’s competitive future. But it’s important that our players know that we aren’t just blindly throwing six figure prize pools at tournaments in the next two months when the game isn’t ready.

We’re under no illusions that Battalion as a brand has a way to go before it can enter the top tier of FPS titles that we intend it to eventually become. This doesn’t mean that we aren’t intending to support our competitive player base until those days inevitably arrive in 5/10 years time. In the meantime - we want Battalion 1944 to provide that dream for our new & dedicated players - the path for anyone to become a professional gamer.

This is why we’re happy to announce today the first step in our three tiered plan for competitive play...

Announcing The Blitzkrieg League

The first phase of our Tournament Roadmap begins with the Summer Season Update...
Ran and organised by our friends over at The Plays, we want to introduce players to our competitive league format with some nice prize pool bonuses for playing.

Official Website of Blitzkrieg Summer:
https://theplays.gg/blitzkrieg-summer/

The first step towards your path to pro begins in the Blitzkrieg Open League.

Open League - Open to everyone. At the end of the season the four best teams will progress into the playoffs with their share of prize pool and a chance to qualify for the premier division. The “Relegation” cup at the end of the season will be the one and only way to qualify for the premier division.

Everyone has the opportunity to graduate from the Open Division into the premier division.

Premier League - 2 groups, each group has 6 teams. Top 4 teams will be going into playoffs. The top 6 teams will get their share of the prize pool depending on their placement in playoffs. The last team of each group will go into the “relegation cup” against the top 4 teams of Open League and they will fight for their spot in the premier division.

The qualification method for the Season 1 of the Premier Division positions are still being decided. Follow @ThePlaysGG on twitter for up to date information.

We’re happy to announce we have hired a community manager to help connect our playerbase to us as developers with the regular communication you deserve across Steam, Discord and Reddit.

The person we’ve hired is a well known figure within our own community who will help us structure and grow our game based on your feedback and concerns.

Hey all

Small client patch this morning addressing some smaller issues since the BattleRank Season 4 update on July 1st. The entire server update process could take up to 2 hours of downtime.

Community Feedback

We received some great comments and suggestions within the comments section of our last patch notes post where we asked you to let us know what you would like to see from the future of the game.

We’ve collated all of the feedback you’ve been providing on Steam, Reddit and our personal Twitter mentions and we’ve been talking internally to see how we can further expand & support the game’s post release development and the Battalion 1944 competitive scene. We believe Battalion 1944 is shaping into the game it was always supposed to be. The exciting news here is that because of this success we’re going to be reinvesting more than previously planned to ensure we can address as many of your requests, concerns and feedback as possible over this next year and beyond with continued post release development.

This is all thanks to you guys, supporting our studio and showing us that there’s demand for this style of FPS to be in your Steam library. All we ask is your continued support!

Patch Notes
  • Potential fix for the ‘MuteAll’ kick.
  • Various client & server crash fixes.
  • Forcing reset of CTF flag if left on the floor for 30 seconds.
  • Knife XP reduced to 5xp to discourage XP gain abuse during special events.
  • BattleRank Level 50+ Trenchgun Lionheart now animates correctly.
  • Corrected descriptions of Season 4 BattleRank skins.
  • Fixed collision issues on Coastal.
  • Fixed collision issues on Liberation.
  • Fixed collision issues on Manorhouse v2.

Hey all!

Very small post update hotfix today with some smaller bug fixes and quality of life changes!

The server update process could take up to 2 hours!

Patch Notes
  • Removed the pesky floating box on Manorhouse v2 in Arcade modes.
  • Disabled vote kicking on all modes that aren’t competitive to reduce abuse of the feature.
  • Rewards section of the post match screen should stay up for a little longer.
  • Chat history is now logged to console.

Some players have noticed an issue with the level 50 Battlerank skin not animating - we’re hoping to have a fix for this deployed next week alongside other community reported fixes.

The Future

We have some awesome stuff planned for the long term future of Battalion 1944 - however, as this is a smaller hotfix update we thought, in the interest of continued community development, we’d like to ask what are your biggest wishes for the next year of development?

What would YOU like to see next in the game?
Let us know in the comments below!

Cheers,
Bulkhead Interactive

Hey all!

Patch 23011 is now LIVE!
The entire server update process could take up to 2 hours of downtime.
See you on the other side!

Here's what is in this season's update:

Special Event - Unranked Wartide Trial

We’ve heard your requests for a casual Wartide queue. To replace the shotgun sendoff special event, we’re trialing an unranked version of Wartide in its place. It's important for players to understand that we need to be careful when implementing new playlists, as it further splits the playerbase between matchmaking queues - which could end up detrimental to the Battalion 1944 experience long term. We’ll be watching player distribution carefully to make a clear & informed decision on the queues permanence at a later date.

Another reason for this trial is to test for issues and bugs related to bots within Wartide. We would like to introduce bots to Faceit competitive play to alleviate the impact of leavers (allowing you to take control of a bot after you die if a teammate has left). However we want to use this trial to identify bugs and issues that can be fixed using the casual unranked setting before rolling out this change to competitive play.

However, we fully understand the desire for a fun & relaxed version of the gamemode that’s casual enough to enjoy without the pressures of ranked play.

We were concerned with 5v5 being too intense for new players. Hopefully with this playlist and its increased 10v10 player count, we can encourage new players to transition from arcade and learn the basic rules of Wartide, including map layouts and mechanics before queueing into competitive play. 10v10 will alleviate the pressure for inexperienced players with more players to kill and less focus on their individual play. Experienced players on the other hand will be able to take a break from competitive, frag out like it's arcade and indirectly show new players who are spectating tips, tricks and how to play in clutch situations.

Unranked Wartide Rules
  • 10v10.
  • MR6.
  • Knife Round Enabled.
  • Overtime Enabled (MR3)
  • Bots Enabled (Testing)
  • Lower match completion bonus than competitive play.

We’ll be watching how this plays out and looking in #bug_reports on the official Discord to see what issues arise!

Wartide XP Bonus

To balance out the XP gain between Wartide & Arcade playlists - we’re raising the match bonus reward for completing a match of Wartide to make sure your time is rewarded correctly!

Season 4 and its rewards were planned in advance and will function the same as the Season 3 - however next season we’ve got some new updates coming to the BattleRank implementation for more rewards simply for playing!

Shotgun Balance Changes

BattleRank Season 3’s most effective weapon has been brought back to earth for Season 4.
A combination of changes have made the weapon effective at close ranges only - making the weapon much less of a threat overall.

Due to community feedback and the obvious power of the shotguns they have been altered to become situational weapons that are intended to be played in close quarters ranges and off angles rather than an ‘all round’ weapon choice. This means there will be positions where the cheap 2 coin shotgun will have its place to allow you to surprise and pick off unprepared players and take their weapon as your own.

Shotgun Maximum Range Heavily Reduced
The longest possible range of the shotgun has been heavily reduced from 4096 units to 1536 units - meaning all shotgun pellets now become entirely ineffective after the 1536 unit range. This will stop players being able to finish off low health players with the shotgun at long range. Players will need to learn this new effective distance before taking shots that previously would have connected.

Damage has been slightly increased at very close range (within 512 units) - meaning only 3/8 pellets must hit the enemy to get a one shot kill.

At its new longest possible range (1536 units) - all pellets need to hit a target to get a 1 shot kill. In the majority of cases you’ll need to fire 2-3 pumps at this distance to hit enough pellets for a kill.

Between these new minimum and maximum ranges of 512 & 1536 units, damage will fall off the further away you are from the target.

Shotgun Crosshair & Spread Accurately Represented

Its very important to remember that shotgun damage is based on how many pellets connect with the target. The closer you are the tighter the spread! There is no RNG on where the pellets will land - it’s purely based on centering your aim over the player & making sure the pellets connect.

However - to help with communication we’ve decided to bring in the spread of the crosshair to more accurately portray where pellets will land - this will hopefully reduce the frustrating moments where a player at close range who has only part of their crosshair over the enemy misses due to none of the pellets connecting.

BAR Balance Changes

New BAR Ironsight to match the STG44

  • BAR now has 30 rounds instead of 20
  • BAR weapon reload sway reduced by 60%
  • New audio for firing
  • Cost increased from 3 > 4 Tokens

M1 Garand Changes
  • Cost Reduced from 4 > 3 Tokens

Knife Changes

To reduce the viability of ‘prone knifing’ we have reduced the reach of the knife when in any stance that isn’t standing, meaning you’ll have to be closer to the enemy to get a kill when in crouch or prone stance.

  • Standing has the furthest reach.
  • Crouching knifing has slightly less reach than standing
  • Prone knifing has significantly less reach than crouching

Map Changes

- Docks now has a wall to prevent allies sniping directly into the Axis spawn church

Bug Fixes & Misc
  • Potential fix for the ‘infinite reload’ bug (special thanks to supreme, bAAz and Tobin)
  • Potential fix for disappearing arms when using left handed viewmodel
  • Disabled all voting in FFA game modes to reduce abuse of the kick function.
  • Added profanity filter to ingame chat to help reduce abusive language
  • Fixed collision issues on multiple maps
BATTALION: Legacy - KingHoward

What a month it has been for Battalion 1944, coming back from the jaws of Early Access and being propelled back into the FPS spotlight. It was great to celebrate the successful release with the rivals event hosted and directed by Twitch themselves - and shows more than our own community that the potential for competitive viewership is there.

Looking forward to the end of this month, comes the end of BattleRank Season 3.

BattleRank Season 3 Officially Ends 1st July 2019
The next few days will be your last chance to reach BattleRank Level 50+ to receive your very own animated STG44 | Glow which reacts to your gameplay!

https://youtu.be/1CiBsm7EZjc

As many people have pointed out, the current market value of the STG44 | Glow is higher than the cost of the game. We would say that’s pretty good value for your money & time!

Double XP Weekend!

To increase your chances of reaching level 50 before the weekend is over, we’re introducing double XP - which will run for this weekend only until the launch of BattleRank Season 4!

Weekend Special Event - Shotgun Sendoff

If there’s anything Battlerank Season 3 (Faceit Season 2) will be remembered for - it’ll be the Trenchgun meta. This weekend will be your last chance to decimate with the shotgun in its current state before they become a blast from the past… and to celebrate that we’re running a weekend only event in our limited time only queue called ‘Shotgun Sendoff’

This is purely a fun event for the last few days of Season 3 and will help you get those sweet experience points to level your BattleRank before Season 4 begins.

Balance Changes Coming With BattleRank Season 4

With every season we will re-evaluate the Battalion 1944 metagame if needs be. Letting the season play out has ensured that we see which weapons have the largest issues that need addressing for the following season, whilst keeping gameplay consistent for competitive & tournament play within the current season. Disruption through hotfixes should only be reserved for fixing game breaking issues & crashes (for example the endless CTF bug).

Having more time also enables us to address the issues in a clearer way by gathering all of the feedback and addressing the correct issues rather than knee jerk responses based on individual clips. Balance will always be an ongoing process - but with Monday’s patch will come a new meta that will evolve throughout that season. We’re looking forward to seeing what strategies prevail as players become accustomed to the changes!

July 1st’s balance changes will be detailed in Monday’s patch notes along with the client update.
But yes… the shotgun has been reworked!
