The game is still in private beta (join the Discord to play). I've made numerous performance improvements; the game now runs 4 times faster, with no impact on the visuals.

Blêktre 2081 - Roger the Frog

Sorry for the slightly clickbait title: first of all, I want to say that development is still very much active, and a major update is on the way!

Blêktre 2081 was first created as a conceptual experiment. Since it was also a video game, publishing it on Steam felt natural. It allowed me to discover what the video game market is really like. After six months of operation, and a rather normal lack of mass appeal, I considered smoothing out Blêktre to make it more compatible with market expectations.

But after working in that direction, I realized it was stripping away the game’s original idea: offering a radical, sad, and mocking experience that tells the story of an unjust society. I still believe this is an interesting and even fun idea — but clearly not for everyone. And if I were to twist Blêktre’s concept to appeal to the widest audience, I think it would end up pleasing no one… starting with me.

So I decided to drop any commercial ambitions for Blêktre and make the game free via the demo version (web and Steam). This free version will now have no restrictions, including the save disks that were previously disabled in this mode: you will now be able to resurrect like everyone else.

Oh, but of course there’s a twist! To truly simulate real life, you have to know that while all citizens are equal, some are more equal than others… A new major privilege is now granted to the player who reaches the very top of the pyramid — the position of mayor of the city: they will now be able to set the law and decide, among other things, whether refugees playing on a free account can be pursued by player-police officers. With some skill, those refugees can still evade them and climb the ranks to ultimately change the law in their favor

Freeing Blêktre from commercial ambitions allows me to imagine more radical, more unfair ideas — but also ones that are more consistent with the nature of the game. I’m convinced this won’t stop it from being fun and balanced — quite the opposite. Opposition always finds a way!

This update is planned for Fall 2025. I hope to see you among the testers of this experience, which I now consider more refined than ever. The next version will bring many changes, and I will get back to you with the full details of this true expansion.

In the meantime, I hope real life isn’t that harsh for you — even if you’re prepared with such a high-quality simulator.

NEW:
- Two new pets are available at the dungeon store: Lunestorm and Lunaxe
- Skilling resource are now also shown during following activites: mining, woodcutting, hunting
- There is now a "how to chat" indicator below the chatbox when you are playing online to make it clear you can chat
- There is now a text notification in your chat if a player connects/disconnects
- Your current HP/Mana/Stamina now also shows in your stat overview
- An option has been added to disable the camera panning (the camera moving to whatever edge your cursor is pointing at)
- Your stat page now also shows your total deaths
- You can now change the game font into two other options, hopefully this will help with readability for some people

CHANGES:
- Fire flash & Greater barrage no longer perform knockback on enemies with their initial projectile
- Fire flash will no longer trigger the falling flames if it did not connect with an enemy and it despawns
- While in hunting areas, if you are using a ranged weapon your UI will be transparant by default to make spotting animals and tracks easier
- Your UI will turn transparant automatically when entering following skilling rooms: mining, woodcutting
- You will no longer be prevented from dashing when near a resource (tree, ore, item, ...) if you are not using a gamepad
- Game loading has been changed so that it won't proceed to the titlescreen until ALL textures are in memory
- More of the game has been offloaded to the CPU, hopefully increasing general performance
- The chat now properly scales along with your GUI scale (in your settings)
- Text within text boxes will no longer have forced anti-aliasing, making it much more sharp to read when playing without anti-aliasing (the default)

FIXED:
- A visual glitch with the player owned paper rack has been fixed
- A critical issue with the fishing skill has been patched
- A state lock issue with mining + woodcutting has been patched
- An issue with the dungeon shop not consuming dungeon credits has been resolved
- The fishing skill page can now be properly closed with tab/escape
- A crash has been fixed with placeholders not being draw properly in the anvil menu
- Speed potions now nullify on death
- A crash with the conjuror orbs connecting with an enemy has been fixed
- Text boxes when talking with NPC's will no longer go off-screen if your scale is set to large
- An issue has been resolved where you were able to equip duplicate spells if you did not have the third slot unlocked yet

The Bus - Bekka [Aerosoft]

Anyone who has closely followed our recent announcement about the future of The Bus DLC – Hamburg City might have already spotted a small hint in the news image about what’s to come:

In The Bus DLC – Hamburg City, Line 7 heads north!

The map is being expanded, and work on it is already in full swing.

The new route will run from the Barmbek U- and S-Bahn station further north.
The roundabout there could already be seen in the announcement image.
North of the roundabout, several lines run further into the north, and one of them – Line 7 – is now being built.

Line 7 will end in Steilshoop. This district, part of the Wandsbek borough, has many faces.
On one hand, from the late 1960s onwards, high-rise housing was built here for more than 20,000 people; on the other, it is also a green oasis with parks, abundant trees, sports facilities, and allotment gardens.

Here, too, Hamburg lives up to its reputation as a very green city.

The journey on Line 7 takes you through the more urban Barmbek area, past shops, restaurants, residential areas, and commercial zones, towards Steilshooper Allee.
After a short stretch there, the bus turns east into Gustav-Seitz-Weg.
It then passes through a roundabout from which parts of the Steilshoop shopping center can be seen, and continues into Gründgensstraße, named after German actor Gustav Gründgens.

Shortly before Borchertring, the bus reaches its terminus, also called Borchertring.
There, the bus has its own loop with a layover area, providing enough space to turn around before starting the return trip to Barmbek.
