You're all millionaires! Enjoy!

(See previous post for details on Loadout's 5/24/2018 End of Service.)

Loadout - rob
I'm very sad to announce that Loadout's end of service will be on 5/24/2018.

Thanks to everyone who made Loadout possible!

The Loadout Community
I hear from fans who passionately love Loadout every day. It started when we began closed beta in back in 2012, and it never stopped. Over 9 million people have played Loadout since then! There was never any question that Loadout was special. I'm deeply grateful to all you players who contributed your time, energy, creativity, and feedback. You're the main reason I wish Loadout could live on. Maybe someday Loadout will return, but for now, it will go offline on 5/24/2018.

The Loadout Team
An incredible amount of talent, passion, and hard work went into Loadout. I'm still awed by your work! This includes everyone at Edge of Reality. Practically everyone at EOR contributed to Loadout in one way or another, whether directly or indirectly, and everyone deserves to share in the credit for what we accomplished. I still cheer for your many continued successes in work and life after EOR.

Our Friends at Playfab, Steam, and PlayStation
Thanks for all your help!

Why now?

Loadout just received a few death blows. Any one of these could have been fatal, but with all of them hitting at once, it's clear that we have no choice but to shut it down.

GDPR
The well-intended GDPR legislation creates major burdens for small companies to do business in the EU, starting on 5/25. We don't have the resources to update Loadout to GDPR compliance, and a big portion of Loadout players come from the EU. Sadly, while big companies have the resources to comply with the GDPR, that's not always the case for small businesses. We still protect your privacy, and we wouldn't dream of doing otherwise. We just don't have the resources to overhaul Loadout and implement new features to meet a large list of new requirements.

Cloud end of service
Loadout depends on an old product from our main cloud provider, and that product is also ending service. I can't speak for them, but GDPR may also be a factor. Porting Loadout to use their new product is a major undertaking, and we don't have the resources to do that.

Rising costs
Other cloud products recently getting discontinued are resulting in much higher server costs, while Loadout's revenues stay flat. This just put Loadout deep into the red, losing an alarming amount of money per month.

So, enjoy your last moments of Loadout, and record them for posterity!

Until next time,
Rob

Loadout is being removed from the Steam store in Asian territories because it has been licensed to another publisher and developer for Asia. People in Asian territories who already have Loadout will still be able to play on Steam, but it won’t be available to new players in those territories until the Asian version is released.

This has no effect on non-Asian territories.

We know you’ve been waiting patiently, and it’s finally time to share some of the details from Update 5.0! We’ve been quietly working on the largest amount of content the Loadout community has seen since launch. In fact, it’s so big we’re going to run a separate beta with the community to ensure it’s ready to rock-n-roll. The beta will be open to all Loadout players and will go live in the coming weeks. You will help shape the future of Loadout and provide pivotal data, feedback and experience. But we’re not quite ready yet. In the meantime, we put together a small teaser and some information of what you can expect in Update 5.0!

Update 4.0 is a go and the goods are here for the share'n! You asked, therefore you shall receive...the option to pummel your best-friend's-neighbor in a Loadout private match! Private matches can be played with anywhere from two to eight players to create the "throwdown of the century". Don't have any friends? No worries, the bots are more than happy to snipe you across the map! This also provides ample opportunity for the "competitive" folks in these here parts to duke it out in your own environment.
Also in the update is the new map, Comm Tower. This vertical map is effectively spaced to give you the best of full-throttle close-quarters action while still providing those pivotal sniping lanes for the marksmen at heart. But that's not all; we added updates to the matchmaking algorithm, new character parts, multiple bug fixes and map rebalancing.
So get out there and tell us what you think of the new map, private matches and the rest of the update goodies!

Update 3.0 is here and it introduces the community to the Ranked Beta! Ranked is the destination where players will be able to scratch their competitive itch. In the Ranked playlist players are separated into divisional tiers and brackets, additionally there are a number of lobby changes to create a more competitive atmosphere. Before you get too anxious to play some Ranked, make sure that you have reached the appropriate level to compete! Players must reach level 10 before they can enter Ranked. The first game modes in the Ranked playlist are Jackhammer and Annihilation.

There is a major change to the Casual playlist lobby experience that allows players to vote on the specific game mode they would like to play.

MAJOR UPDATES
Ranked Mode (Beta)

Players now have the ability to receive a divisional ranking based on how well they perform in each game. Before receiving a rank, players must participate in 12 provisional matches to assess their appropriate Division. The Ranked playlist currently features two of our existing game modes: Jackhammer and Annihilation. Players will maintain a separate rank for each mode they choose to play.

Ranked Level Gate

Players must reach level 10 before entering the Ranked playlist.

Ranked Lobby Changes

Players cannot see opponents from the other team while in a lobby. Like the Casual playlist, map voting has been disabled.

Casual Playlist Voting

The voting system has been altered to only include a list of all game modes when players are in the lobby – maps selection has been removed. The map selection will be determined based on the selected game mode.

You can read all the full list of changes on the official website.
