The Dream Machine: Chapter 1 & 2 - Cockroach

Greetings Citizen!

Spring has finally reached Sweden and it's about effin' time, if you ask me!

This winter just wouldn't end... If I were to review it I would give it 1 star out of 5 possible. Too long. Too dark. Too cold. Would not experience again, given a choice. But now it's finally over, so let's peel away about 7 layers of clothing and get busy celebrating!

If you still need to be convinced about joining the party, let me give you another reason: We just released an update to the game! How cool is that?!

Yeah?

That got you in the mood, huh? Feel like celebrating now, do you? Those ol' hips of yours just started gyrating, did they?

As I knew they would! No doubt. No doubt.

This update changes how the interaction options are displayed. Finally, you no longer have to look at the bottom of the screen to see what you're trying to do. The text follows the mouse cursor around at all times. It's something I've been wanting to change for a while, and now's the time.

We've also added 200 interaction options to Chapter 6. There's still more we'd like to add there, but this is a solid step in the right direction. We hope you agree.

Anyway, here's the full patch rundown:

• Engine: Tweaked UI
• Engine: Tweaked load file access
• Engine: Tweaked autosave file cleanup
• Chapter 6: Added 200 interaction options
• Game: Improved sound effect quality

As always, don't be shy if you see something strange or buggy in the game.

The Dream Machine: Chapter 1 & 2 - Cockroach

Mellow greetings!

February's almost over, people! How does that feel? Are you as excited as I am? February is hands down my least favorite month of the year, and I can't wait until this old bag is over and done with! While we're waiting for spring, we thought we might as well put our time to good use and get some work done improving The Dream Machine.

This month we've been looking into some problems people have been reporting regarding the save system. Previously you could encounter a bug if you named your save starting with certain characters. I'm happy to report that that's been fixed now.

I've removed the inventory size limit, which would prevent players from picking up more than 19 items. Right now, the items will be stored offscreen so you'll have to use some of the other items in order to see them, but at least you'll be able to pick everything up you want. It's obviously not a perfect solution, but we'll keep it for now since the problem only affected a very small number of players. I hope to be able to add an extra row to the inventory for the next months update.

[UPDATE: The bug that caused the save files not to be detected has been fixed now. So the problem outlined below doesn't exist anymore. Yay!]

There's also a more troubling issue, were the game doesn't seem to recognize the save files for some players. I still haven't found the root cause of this, but I've included a makeshift workaround in this update. It's a debug function that I've exposed in order to ensure that you can load your save game without loss of progress.

In order to access the new load feature, press SHIFT + L. It'll open an input field where you can paste the contents of any save file. On PC the game saves are stored in a folder called "saveGames". They can be opened with any kind of text editing software. So just copy the contents and paste them into the game. Obviously it's a temporary solution, but it'll allow you to load your saved games while I examine the issue further.

Anyway, here's the full patch rundown:

• Engine: Fixed issue with save game names
• Engine: Fixed issue with save game not being detected for some players
• Engine: Added a text based loading option (SHIFT + L)
• Engine: Fixed issue with the Autosave file not loading properly
• Game: Allowed the inventory to extend beyond 19 items

As always, don't be shy if you see something strange or buggy in the game.

The Dream Machine: Chapter 1 & 2 - Cockroach

Happy 2018 everyone!

My-oh-my, how time flies when you're having all kinds of fun! We were so busy doing other stuff that we kind of slipped out of the habit of doing these updates regularly. Oh well. That's how it is sometimes. You can't do everything you want.

Anyway, we just pushed a small update live in order to address an issue some people are having with the game always being on top of other applications. Just hit the 'B' key. That should minimize the game down to the task bar.

UPDATE: I changed it to the 'B' key in order to avoid a key conflict. Sorry about the fuss.

Don't be shy if you see something strange or buggy in the game.

The Dream Machine: Chapter 1 & 2 - Cockroach

Hello!

Even though we've mostly moved on to other projects, we're still going to go back and tweak and fix The Dream Machine whenever we feel like it. That's just how we roll. None of this months changes introduces anything new, but even though they're all fairly minor tweaks they all add up in the fullness of time.

We're keeping our other projects under wraps for now, but expect more announcements in the not too distant future.

Anyway, here's the contents of the latest patch:

• Game: Tweaked UI
• Chapter 3 & 6: Fixed bottom bunk bug in cabin 2
• Chapter 5: Edited the pumpkin dialogue
• Chapter 6: Tweaked sound design
• Chapter 6: Removed kitchen interactions
• Chapter 6: Tweaked fishing Victor dialogue
• Chapter 6: Tweaked crib Victor dialogue
• Chapter 6: Added interactions
• Chapter 6: Tweaked interactions
• Chapter 6: Improved lake performance
• Demo: Updated demo

Don't be shy if you see something strange or buggy in the game.

The Dream Machine: Chapter 1 & 2 - Cockroach

Mellow greetings!

We just released an update for the game in order to fix some problems people have been reporting. Nothing major. Just small tweaks.

The biggest change is that I made the helmets work both ways. It's mostly a convenience tweak. Working out who should wear which helmet was a bit of a stumbling block for most people, so I just made them work interchangeably. That's how I roll, people!

UPDATE: I made a slight modification to my previous rule change. The player now has to solve the helmet puzzle correctly in Chapter 2. But from then on the helmets can be used interchangeably. You might see this as the game breaking its own logic, but I see it more as the game editing out content the player has already seen. Since the player has already proved he/she knows how to use the helmets twice, there's no reason for them to solve that puzzle again and again and again after that. The game presumes what they want to do, and gets on with it.

Anyway, here's the contents of the latest patch:

• Engine: Fixed bug in task manager
• Game: Tweaked UI
• Chapter 4, 5 & 6: Made the helmets work interchangeably
• Chapter 4: Added dialogue
• Chapter 1, 2, 4 & 6: Fixed typos

Don't be shy if you see something strange or buggy in the game.

The Dream Machine: Chapter 1 & 2 - Cockroach

Greetings and salutations!

To be honest, we haven't really worked a whole lot on the game this month, because we've been busy enjoying the summer. Summer in Sweden only lasts for about 15 days, so you'd better make the most of it...

We've also been working on a small game, that will be announced in more detail at a later date. It's a sort of palate cleanser, after the huge undertaking that was The Dream Machine. Stay tuned.

We're also running a sale right now, so if you haven't already picked up the game – now's the time!

Anyway, here's the contents of the latest patch:

• Engine: Improved load file accessing
• Game: Tweaked UI
• Chapter 1, 4, 5 & 6: Replaced toilet lid sounds
• Chapter 1 & 6: Split asset files
• Chapter 6: Tweaked dialogue
• Chapter 6: Tweaked crumb interactions
• Chapter 6: Fixed forked twig related bug
• Chapter 6: Added Victor icons to macro view
• Chapter 6: Made staff behavior consistent with Chapter 5

Don't be shy if you see something strange or buggy in the game.

The Dream Machine: Chapter 1 & 2 - Cockroach

Why hello there!

How's things? We hope you're busy enjoying the summer sun, if you're on the northern hemisphere. If you're on the bottom of the planet, why not pop over across the Equator and join the party with the rest of us? There's plenty of room up here.

If you're not in a party mood and would rather sit inside and play a game or two, then may I make a suggestion? Play The Dream Machine! It's a spectacular game with lots of stuff in it. It's got clay, cardboard, words, puzzles etc. Everything a growing boy/girl/other needs.

Oh, and it's also received a very recent update, which may or may not make the proposal sound more appealing to you. I don't know. Tastes vary.

Anyway, here's the contents:

• Game: Tweaked UI
• Game: Improved game start-up procedure
• Game: Increased minimum walking speed to 1.5
• Game: Changed how the game loads language files
• Game: Added 'View Credits' option to main menu
• Chapter 1, 2, 4, 5 & 6: Tweaked dialogue
• Chapter 2 & 4: Tweaked background music
• Chapter 5: Improved performance in Martin's hallway
• Chapter 5: Improved performance in Selma's hallway
• Chapter 6: Improved graphics quality
• Chapter 6: Added interactions
• Chapter 6: Fixed typos

Don't be shy if you see something strange or buggy in the game.

The Dream Machine: Chapter 1 & 2 - Cockroach

Citizen!

It's now been about a month and a half since we released the last chapter of The Dream Machine. We hope you've had the chance to play it and we hope you enjoyed it!

Since the release, we've been busy fixing the reported bugs, making sure everyone has as smooth an experience as is possible. Things seemed to have calmed down a bit during these last few weeks, though, so we're moving back into our old groove of updating the game on a somewhat monthly basis. There's still a lot we'd like to add or tweak, so expect this to be an ongoing effort for some time to come.

Also, the Steam Summer Sale is upon us, so if you haven't yet picked up the game, now's the time!

• Chapter 3: Replaced legacy code

• Chapter 6: Fixed stairwell bug
• Chapter 6: Fixed bed railing bug
• Chapter 6: Increased bed railing interaction area
