Good morning gladiators!

One of the big complaints about the Classic Collection was that in S&S 3, you could only save one gladiator. In the old Fizzy versions, you could save up to ten, so understandably a lot of people were confused and annoyed about the restrictions on the new one.

Long story short, technical issues with S&S 3 had kept me from being able to save more than one gladiator in the game, but I've completely re-written the save game system using the same ancient code as the old game.

After installing this patch, you'll be able to save up to 10 gladiators. For those who already have a saved gladiator in S&S 3, I am *fairly* confident this will automatically convert to the new save game system, but I can't guarantee it. My huge apologies if your character in S&S 3 is lost after this update, but the trade-off for the multiple saves should hopefully help.

Other small fixes:

  • In S&S IV, I hopefully have a fix for the 'undefined' gladiators / closed arena tiles in the game. Let me know if this still keeps happening for you!
  • In S&S 3, the Juggernaut skill now properly shows your height and weight increasing on your character sheet.

Many thanks to everyone who has played the game! As always, I'll keep patching things as I find solutions ( though sometimes it can be really tricky as some of these bugs are a decade old or more!)

Hey everyone! Apologies for the delay in patching the Classic Collection! I've been super busy lately, between this game, looking after my little son, maintaining the mobile versions of the games and working on the new game Spartacus, my time has just felt non-existent!

Good news is there's a new patch up for the game! Here are some of the latest additions / fixes - this is for Windows only right now but a Mac patch is coming soon too.

Global Changes]
  • Players can now return to the main menu by clicking Quit Game. This was a lot trickier to implement than I thought, but it's working now. You can go back and forward between games without having to reload the main game every time.
  • New background image added to random backgrounds
  • Fixed a bunch of broken tweens and typos in the games

Swords and Sandals II
  • Fixed a bug where enemy trivia didn't show up properly
  • Resized orange parchment on battle UI to fit screens better
  • Fixed a bug where ammo was not showing for characters in battle

Swords and Sandals Crusader
  • Fixed a bug in the Leadership spell that would sometimes freeze the game
  • Fixed some blurring issues on sprites in battle
  • Fixed a bug where the game would sometimes pause between arrow fire exchanges

Swords and Sandals IV
  • Potential fix for the Arena tiles showing 'Closed for repairs'. (You may find this causes some glitches or undefined character names, if so, let me know!)

I will keep patching this game over the months and years, it just might take me a while as many of the bugs are from code written in 2006 that *used* to work but just has totally broken in newer versions of Windows etc, things like Tween engines that once worked now sometimes fail, collision detection is done differently etc! It's a creaky machine :)

Hey gladiators, I hope you're enjoying the series! I'm as always working hard to iron out as many bugs from the past as I can. Here are the latest updates:

SWORDS AND SANDALS 3

  • Fixed a bug where gladiators with special characters (,!,$ etc) would corrupt the save game ( You may have to clear save data from the title screen or delete your character if strange things are still happening )
  • Misc fixes on some tweens

SWORDS AND SANDALS 4

  • Unlocked all minigames for people to play straight away (more fun that way!)
  • Fixed a bug where gladiators with special characters (,!,$ etc) would corrupt the save game ( You may have to clear save data from the title screen or delete your character if strange things are still happening )
  • Added a 'Refresh Gladiator' button to the Character Sheet page in case your gladiator's weapons / armour looks bloodied and grey
  • Fixed a bug where some gladiators names were undefined on load
  • Increased the amount of XP won for finishing a board
  • Fixed a naming bug in Knight Runner minigame
  • Fixed lantern light and score in Caverneer minigame

Greetings gladiators! The latest patch has just gone live, with some love shown to S&S Crusader - sieges should be working properly now. S&S 3 was also patched. See the notes below - more patches to come this week!

* SWORDS AND SANDALS CRUSADER

  • Fixed a bug where sieges faded to black but wouldn't progress
  • Fixed a bug where catapults weren't hitting towers properly
  • Fixed a bug on combat where troops paused before returning to formation
  • Fixed a bug on Survival mode with Shi-Tzurantula appearing too early
  • Potential fix for allied computers causing some turns to freeze


* SWORDS AND SANDALS 3

  • Fixed a bug where gladiators could fall off the left/right edges of the Bone Pit, Hall of Champions and Ultratus Arenas
  • Fixed bug where the right side of spell bar could not equip spells
  • Fixed bug where gladiator names were shown as undefined or incorrect
  • EXPERIMENTAL - Added a 'Clear Saved Data' to the title screen of S&S 3. Use this button as a last resort if you click on Enter World and cannot load the game, it will delete old and possibly corrupted gladiators. This may or may not work, I'm going to monitor user feedback on this.

Hey everyone, I've just patched S&S 3 and 4 with the following fixes:

Swords and Sandals III:
* Fixed a bug where weapons could not be equipped
* Changed things so you must unequip your weapon before equipping another
* Fixed invisible weapons

Swords and Sandals IV:
* Fixed invisible equipment bug
* Fixed a bug where weapons could not be equipped
* Changed things so you must unequip your weapon before equipping another
* Fixed invisible weapons
* Removed lag on S&S IV character load screens


I'm aware of more bugs in the games (specifically around Crusader, some of the minigames and the spell bar in S&S 3) ... I'll be patching these over the coming days! Thank you for your patience - needless to say it's been a battle to get these classic games up and running on modern machines and unfortunately I fix one thing, break another - but we will get there!

Hey everyone! I've just patched the following games in the Classic Collection:

Swords and Sandals III
  • Fixed a bug where gladiators with dual wield skill couldn't equip weapons in their off hand
  • Added a short musical interlude on the Arena Champion Pillars Screen

Swords and Sandals IV
  • Sped up transitions (fade to white) between menus
  • Main Menu buttons appear faster
  • Fixed a bug where music kept playing when mini games ended
  • Fixed a bug where buttons sometimes appeared blurry

Swords and Sandals Crusader
  • Fixed a bug where buttons sometimes appeared blurry

I'll try and keep patching these games as often as I can - just also know that the code for some of the Classic Collection is from over a decade ago (S&S 1 came out in 2006!) so there are just some things I was never able to solve, some bugs beyond my skill to fix. Hopefully nothing game breaking!

Hey all, some early buyers of the game have reported there was a missing executable file in the game and nothing could be played. Apologies for the stuff up - there was an error (my fault) in the Steam build upload process. Try downloading the game again and it should work.
