Gothic II: Gold Edition - THQ Nordic
Dear Gothic community,

first of all, a big think you to you all - Steam announced all the Nominees for the Steam Awards 2017 yesterday. Due to your help and support, we are happy to say that Gothic II Gold is among the Nominees for the "No Apologies" Award. What a great surprise!

On December 26, starting 10 am PST time, we can now bring this to an end and start voting for the game we love for being the winner of that category.

The “No Apologies” Award
This award is for the game that you love unconditionally. Does it have some faults? Maybe. Do other people not understand your love for it? Sure. But make no mistake. There is no guilt here. Only pleasure.

We would feel honored if Gothic II Gold gets your vote in that final round.

The whole THQ Nordic team already wishes you Merry Christmas and happy holidays with your families and friends.

Cheers & Thank you very much
Your THQ Nordic Team

One of the many nebulous concepts that spring up when writing about games is “a sense of place”. We talk about worlds and locations and settings, but often these boil down to unusual geography or art direction surface details and imagery rather than a real identity.

Gothic, by contrast, wasn’t particularly pretty. Its setting wasn’t the singular underground world of Arx Fatalis, nor the varied alien landscape of Morrowind. Instead, Piranha Bytes recognised back in 2001 that a place is a place not because of its landscape or biome or buildings, but because the people there make it one.

Most RPGs have NPC traffic. Gothic had a society>.

“Eclectic, Lavish, Exhilarating, Xenial”, was how Risen and Gothic developers Piranha Bytes described their forthcoming post-apocalyptic open world RPG ELEX [official site] when they announced it last year. I reckon they were being purposefully tongue-in-cheek, but either way we didn’t have all too much to go on back then beyond the initial idea.

Fast forward the better part of a year, and a website overhaul, a load of new info and a fresh “mood” trailer now offer us a better understanding of what it’s all about. Observe:

Shacknews - Robert Workman
With both Transformers: Age of Extinction and Rise of the Dark Spark arriving this week, the robots in disguise will be rolling out in force and arriving onto the new generation of consoles. The robots have found their niche as of late, thanks to High Moon Studios' recent releases on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, including the well-received Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. While we wait to pass judgment on this new adventure, we decided to look back on some of the Transformers games of old. Not every one was a success, and some were a downright pain in the gas tank, but they have come a long way over the years. Join us as we take a look back!
