This agreement is between you and Pedro Verpha (“Developer”) and governs your use of Faun Engine, including its editor, runtime, and accompanying materials (“Engine”).
By accepting this agreement, you agree to the following terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Engine.
1. FREE PERSONAL AND COMMERCIAL USE
The Developer grants you a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to install and use the Engine to create, test, publish, distribute, and sell games and interactive applications.
The Engine is free for individuals, teams, and companies. No subscription, license fee, royalty, or revenue share is owed to the Developer, regardless of your project’s revenue.
Donations and financial contributions are entirely optional and are not required to use the Engine or commercially release your projects.
2. OWNERSHIP OF YOUR PROJECTS
You retain ownership of your original code, games, applications, and assets created using the Engine. The Developer does not acquire ownership of your projects through your use of the Engine.
Your ownership remains subject to any rights associated with Engine components or third-party materials included in your projects.
3. DISTRIBUTING YOUR GAMES
You may include and redistribute the Engine runtime and other files designated for game export as part of your games and applications, including paid releases.
You may authorize your publishers, distributors, and end users to reproduce and use those components as necessary to distribute and run your projects.
This permission does not authorize distributing the Engine editor or repackaging the Engine as a standalone development tool.
4. ENGINE OWNERSHIP AND RESTRICTIONS
The Engine is proprietary software. Its source code is private and is not provided under an open-source license. Ownership of the Engine remains with the Developer and its respective licensors.
Except as expressly permitted by this agreement, applicable law, or a component’s separate license, you may not sell, sublicense, modify, or redistribute the Engine itself, reverse engineer it, or remove its copyright and proprietary notices.
These restrictions do not prevent you from creating scripts, extensions, or other integrations through the Engine’s supported interfaces.
5. THIRD-PARTY COMPONENTS AND MATERIALS
Third-party libraries, assets, and tools are governed by their respective licenses. Those licenses control where they differ from this agreement.
You are responsible for obtaining the rights required for materials you use and for preserving applicable notices when distributing your projects. This agreement does not waive third-party fees or platform requirements.
6. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
You are responsible for your projects, their content, their distribution, and compliance with applicable laws and third-party rights.
You are responsible for testing your projects and maintaining appropriate backups.
7. WARRANTY AND LIABILITY
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Engine is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. The Developer does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, compatibility, or suitability for a particular purpose.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Developer is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the Engine, including lost profits or lost data.
Nothing in this agreement excludes rights, warranties, or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
8. UPDATES AND CONTINUING PERMISSIONS
The Developer may release updates but does not promise any particular feature, support service, or update schedule.
Later revisions of this agreement will not retroactively remove the free commercial-use and runtime-distribution permissions granted for Engine versions obtained under this agreement, provided you comply with its terms.
9. STEAM AND OTHER TERMS
When obtained through Steam, use of the Engine is also subject to the applicable Steam agreements. This agreement grants permissions for Faun Engine and does not modify your agreements with Valve.
If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
