Dextrata Software Inc. - Version 1.1 - Effective 11 October 2026
Applies to: the Dusk Lord software in every form we distribute it - the updater (DuskLord.exe)
and game client (DuskLordGame.exe) downloaded from dusklord.com, and copies obtained through
Steam - on Windows, macOS, and Linux or Steam Deck (through Proton).
The current version is at https://dusklord.com/legal/eula.html
This EULA governs the Dusk Lord software you download and run. It adds to the
Terms of Service (https://dusklord.com/legal/terms.html), which govern the online
game the software connects to. If you obtained the software through Steam, the
Steam Subscriber Agreement also applies to that copy and to Steam's services. By
downloading, installing or running the software you accept this EULA, including
AUTOMATIC UPDATES. If you do not accept it, do not install the software, and delete
any copy you have.
1. LICENCE GRANT
If you comply with this EULA and the Terms of Service, Dextrata Software Inc.
grants you a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable,
non-sublicensable licence to install and run the software on devices you own or
control, only to play Dusk Lord Online for your own personal, non-commercial
entertainment. The software is licensed, not sold. Dextrata and its licensors keep
all rights, title and interest in it and in every copy. All rights not expressly
granted are reserved.
2. WHAT YOU MAY NOT DO
Except where applicable law expressly forbids the restriction, you must not:
- copy, publish, distribute, sell, rent, lend, sublicense or host the software, or
make it available to anyone else (sharing a link to dusklord.com or to the game's
Steam store page is fine);
- modify, adapt, translate or make derivative works of the software;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the software, or try to discover its
source code, network protocol or algorithms;
- remove or change any copyright notice, licence file or attribution;
- tamper with the software or its files, or get around any security, integrity,
version or access check;
- connect to the game with a modified, unofficial or emulated client, a proxy, or
anything other than the unmodified official software, or run or connect to a
private or unofficial server;
- cheat: inject code into the software, read or write its memory, intercept or
alter its network traffic, or use any trainer, bot, macro, script or automation
that plays for you or gives you an unfair advantage;
- use the software to build a competing product.
Running the unmodified official software through a compatibility layer such as
Proton is not a breach of this Section.
If you are in the European Union, nothing here restricts your rights under
Articles 5 and 6 of Directive 2009/24/EC, provided you first ask us for the
information at sales@dextrata.com. Nothing here limits your rights under the
open-source licences in Section 6.
3. AUTOMATIC UPDATES
You consent to automatic updates. How they arrive depends on where you got the
software:
- Downloaded from dusklord.com: each time you start Dusk Lord, the updater checks
our download server for a new version. If there is one, it downloads it, checks
every file against a SHA-256 hash, and installs it - replacing the game and, when
needed, the updater itself - without asking first. A window shows progress, and
its Cancel button stops the current update.
- Through Steam: Steam downloads and installs updates under your Steam settings and
the Steam Subscriber Agreement; the Dusk Lord updater is not used.
Updates may add, change or remove features, and may be needed to keep playing. The
game server may refuse a client that is out of date. To stop receiving updates,
stop using and uninstall the software.
4. ONLINE ONLY, AND WHAT THE SOFTWARE SENDS
The software is a client for an online game and does not work without a connection
to our servers. When you sign in it sends your username and password, or a Steam
sign-in ticket (from which the server takes your SteamID64), or a Google sign-in.
While you play it sends your moves and commands and what you write in chat, mail,
the forum and the Ideas board, and it receives the game world. The server saves
your characters and their progress against your account. Real-money purchases are
paid on Helcim's checkout page in your web browser; your card details go to Helcim,
never to us. The software sends no analytics, telemetry, advertising identifiers,
hardware details or crash reports; crash reports stay on your device unless you
choose to send one. The connection to the game server is plain TCP and is NOT
ENCRYPTED: use a password you use nowhere else. What we collect and keep, and how
to ask for it to be deleted, is set out in PRIVACY.txt, which ships beside this
EULA and is shown in the game's Legal tab. If we stop running the servers, the
software will stop working.
5. WHERE IT INSTALLS, AND REMOVING IT
Where the game is installed depends on how you got it: the updater installs it in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\DuskLord on Windows, with installed.json, updater.log and temporary
downloads; Steam installs it in your Steam library folder; on macOS it is wherever
you place the application. The game keeps its settings, keybinds and any crash
reports or performance traces in %APPDATA%\DuskLord on Windows, or
~/Library/Application Support/DuskLord on macOS. To uninstall, delete the install
folder (or uninstall through Steam) and the settings folder.
6. THIRD-PARTY AND OPEN-SOURCE COMPONENTS
The software includes open-source components, each licensed under its own terms,
which govern that component and prevail over this EULA for it. Their names,
licences and notices are in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt beside the game, in the game's
Legal & Credits dialog, and at https://dusklord.com/legal/attributions.html
PRIVACY.txt, also beside the game and in that dialog, is our privacy notice.
7. GET IT FROM US
Get the software only from https://dusklord.com/, through the updater, or through
Steam. Copies from anywhere else are unlicensed and unsupported, and may be
malicious.
8. YOUR DEVICE AND PLATFORM
You are responsible for your hardware, operating system, graphics drivers, network
and security software, and for meeting the system requirements. Availability and
support vary by platform and distribution channel: some platforms, including
macOS and Linux or Steam Deck through Proton, may be offered with limited or no
support, and any of them may be added, changed or withdrawn. We do not warrant
that the software will run, or run well, on any particular device, operating
system or compatibility layer. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for
damage to, or loss of data or performance on, any device, or for driver faults,
overheating, incompatibility or interference from other software.
9. TERM AND TERMINATION
This EULA starts when you first download, install or run the software. It ends
automatically if you breach it, and we may end it under the Terms of Service. When
it ends you must stop using the software and delete all copies. Sections 1 (second
half), 2, 6, 8 and 9 to 12 survive.
10. WARRANTIES AND LIABILITY
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT
WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DEXTRATA AND ITS
SUPPLIERS AND LICENSORS DISCLAIM ALL EXPRESS, IMPLIED AND STATUTORY WARRANTIES AND
CONDITIONS, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, MERCHANTABLE QUALITY, FITNESS FOR A
PARTICULAR PURPOSE, DURABILITY, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT AND COMPATIBILITY. The
limitation of liability in Section 16 of the Terms of Service applies to the
software. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer that cannot be
waived.
11. EXPORT CONTROL
You may not download, use or export the software in breach of Canadian, US or
other applicable export control or sanctions laws.
12. GOVERNING LAW AND GENERAL
This EULA is governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of
Canada that apply there. The dispute terms in Section 19 of the Terms of Service,
including arbitration, the class action waiver and their consumer carve-outs,
apply to it. If a provision is unenforceable it is changed to the minimum extent
needed, or removed, and the rest continues. We may change this EULA as described in
Section 22 of the Terms of Service. You may not transfer this EULA; we may.
