End User License Agreement (EULA) — RCSIM
Version: 1.3.25
Last updated: 2026-10-10

IMPORTANT — READ BEFORE USE. THIS IS NOT A GAME.
RCSIM is experimental ground control station software. Operating physical RC vehicles carries risks of property damage, serious injury or death. Read this Agreement and the Safety Notice before use. Acceptance does not waive mandatory statutory rights.
Compatible external hardware and firmware are required only to operate physical vehicles. Demonstration and simulation modes included in the purchased release may be used without a physical RC vehicle; separate simulator software may be required as stated in that release's documentation. Hardware is not included with the Software.
1. Definitions
- "Software" — the RCSIM GCS application, including all proprietary components, compiled runtime files, updates, assets, and original documentation.
- "Licensor" — RCSIM / Mateusz Buzek.
- "User" — the individual or legal entity that has acquired a licence for the Software via the Steam platform.
- "Steam" — the digital distribution platform owned and operated by Valve Corporation.
- "Steam Workshop" — the Steam platform feature enabling users to upload, share, and download user-generated content.
- "Embedded Hardware" — external devices (including Arduino microcontrollers, ESP32, Raspberry Pi 5 computers, and sensors) interfacing with the Software. Onboard embedded firmware is provided separately as open-source software.
- "Training Data" — telemetry records, camera video frames, GPS, LiDAR, IMU coordinates, and controller inputs recorded locally by the User for training autonomous AI systems.
- "AI Model" — a convolutional neural network, behavioral cloning, or reinforcement learning model compiled or deployed by the User using Training Data.
2. Grant of Licence
The Licensor grants the User a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the Software on Windows devices under this Agreement. The licence may be terminated only under Section 13 or applicable mandatory law. The Software is licensed, not sold.
Third-party components remain governed by their own licences, which prevail over conflicting restrictions in this Agreement. For components distributed under LGPLv3, the User may modify library portions, replace or relink the application with a compatible modified library, and reverse-engineer the combined work to debug such modifications, as permitted by LGPLv3 Section 4. Applicable notices, licence texts, source code or source access and any required relinking materials must be provided in accordance with the relevant licence. This clause does not claim that every dependency uses LGPLv3 or that every library resides in a particular directory.
The licence explicitly includes:
a) Personal and hobby use — use of the Software to control your own RC models, vehicles, and other platforms for private, hobbyist purposes.
b) Video content creation and monetisation (Video Policy) — the User may record, stream (e.g. YouTube, Twitch, Kick, and other media platforms) and monetise video content showing the Software in operation, provided the name "RCSIM" is credited as the source.
c) Educational and training use — drone flight schools, RC training centres, universities, and educational institutions may use the Software for student training and commercial courses without purchasing separate enterprise or commercial licences.
This exception takes precedence over commercial terms. Paid courses and training provided by schools, universities and training centres do not require a Commercial Pass. Free DLC must still be acquired/installed where required under paragraph e.
d) Steam Workshop — If Steam Workshop integration is available in the purchased release, the User may create, publish and download supported content under Section 4 and the applicable Steam rules.
e) Commercial and Sim-Center use — Paid RC attractions, rental of operating stations, commercial events and entertainment venues require the base Software licence and a separate "RCSIM: Sim-Center Annual Commercial Pass" for each physical, active simulator rig / computer station. One Pass does not cover multiple commercial stations. Merely owning a business does not trigger this requirement; the actual use determines it. Educational and training use under paragraph c, including paid courses, and video/stream monetisation under paragraph b remain exempt.
Current Pass: 2026–2027 (Steam App ID 5398430). Commercial rights begin when the Pass is lawfully acquired and available for use, and end on 31 December 2027 at 23:59:59 Europe/Warsaw time, regardless of purchase date. This is a fixed calendar-period licence, not 12 months from purchase. The Pass is purchased for a one-time payment, at the price and currency displayed by Steam before checkout. There is no automatic renewal or recurring charge. Continuing commercial operation after expiry requires a separately purchased Pass for the next period, if offered, or another commercial entitlement expressly agreed with the Licensor. Future availability and prices are not guaranteed.
Expiry ends only the commercial permission granted by that Pass. It does not remove rights to the separately purchased base Software, permitted hobby/educational use, free add-ons or the User's data. The User must stop commercial operation safely before expiry; expiry must not abruptly interrupt control of an active vehicle. This clause does not retroactively restrict rights already granted to earlier purchasers.
Racing/Multiplayer (5398000), AI (5398010) and SLAM (5398020) are separate free DLC. They must be acquired/installed where required and used with a valid base licence; the Commercial Pass does not replace these add-ons. It grants commercial permission under this section. A Steam PC Café / Site Licensing entitlement is an alternative only if RCSIM is actually offered through that program under explicit commercial terms covering the relevant stations; this Agreement does not promise that offer or a subscription.
Acquisition and use through Steam remain subject to applicable Valve terms, including the Steam Subscriber Agreement. The educational exception and commercial permission grant rights only in the Licensor’s proprietary Software; they do not override Valve’s restrictions or permit unauthorised sharing of Steam accounts. Each active commercial station requires an independent, valid Steam licence.
3. Licence Restrictions
The User may not:
- copy, distribute, license, or resell the Software or any of its proprietary components;
- reverse-engineer, decompile or modify proprietary parts of the Software, except as permitted by mandatory law or applicable third-party licences;
- use the Software for purposes that are unlawful or contrary to local civil aviation and RC regulations;
- create derivative works based on the proprietary parts of the Software;
- USE THE SOFTWARE FOR MILITARY PURPOSES, WEAPONS DEVELOPMENT, TERRORIST ACTIONS, ESPIONAGE, EXPORT-CONTROL VIOLATIONS, OR ANY ACTIONS COMPROMISING PUBLIC SAFETY (DUAL-USE PROHIBITION). THE LICENSOR HOLDS NO DEFENSE OR DUAL-USE SECURITY CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPRESSLY EXCLUDES ANY COMPATIBILITY THEREOF.
4. Steam Workshop and User-Generated Content
This section applies only when Steam Workshop integration is actually available in the purchased release. References to Workshop do not promise its current availability or future implementation.
- By submitting content to Steam Workshop, the User grants the Licensor a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, copy, and distribute that content solely within the Software.
- The User warrants that they hold all rights to the submitted content and that it does not infringe any third-party intellectual property or copyright.
- Workshop content may contain faults or unsafe modifications. Review and test content before physical use. Mandatory rights and the Licensor's liability under applicable law remain unaffected.
- Workshop content is also subject to the Valve Corporation Steam Subscriber Agreement.
5. Online Services and Multiplayer
Multiplayer features require a release containing them or the separate free Racing/Multiplayer DLC identified in Section 2(e), acquired/installed where required with a valid base licence. No separate paid Multiplayer licence is required. When available, these features use a distributed architecture (P2P / Local Hosting):
- Local MQTT broker: The "Host Session" function launches a built-in MQTT broker on the User's computer. RCSIM does not operate or maintain central game matchmaking or gameplay servers.
- The host must configure and test the network, supervise the physical vehicle, agree control-transfer procedures with participants and retain independent emergency stopping. This does not guarantee network stability or exclude mandatory liability.
- Tailscale / VPN: The Software supports connectivity via virtual networks (e.g. Tailscale). Their configuration, security, data usage, and costs are entirely the User's responsibility.
- WebRTC: Video and telemetry may be transmitted to local or remote session participants. Routing, VPN coordination or relay use depends on the configured services and network conditions. LAN, P2P or Tailscale use does not by itself guarantee that traffic stays on one device or one local network. See the Privacy Policy and service settings.
- Hybrid control, where supported by the release and firmware, may use RF and network paths. This does not guarantee maximum safety, seamless failover or the most stable path. Test arbitration, latency, stale commands and loss of each link on the actual hardware in controlled conditions; maintain independent hardware protection.
- Local rankings: Session rankings are stored on the host; related session telemetry may be shared with participants as described in the Privacy Policy. Modifying telemetry sent to rankings and the use of cheats are strictly prohibited.
6. AI Models and Autonomous Control
The User must train, validate and test their AI models in controlled conditions, supervise operation and maintain an independent means of stopping the vehicle. Models may behave unpredictably outside training conditions. These duties do not transfer all legal liability to the User or exclude responsibility for defects in the Software. Data handling is described in the Privacy Policy.
7. Physical Safety and Responsibility
Physical hardware, batteries, actuators and radio links can fail and cause fire, injury or death. RCSIM is not a certified industrial or aviation safety system. Follow applicable operating rules and manufacturer instructions. Test receiver-level failsafes and independent emergency stopping before each session. Software E-Stop, geofencing and link arbitration are auxiliary functions: network loss or software failure may prevent delivery of commands. Motion platforms require manufacturer-approved operating limits, a clear safety zone and an independent stop.
Liability is determined by applicable law. This Agreement does not exclude or limit liability for intentional misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury where such liability cannot lawfully be limited, nor mandatory consumer, conformity or product-liability rights. Safety warnings do not excuse defects or replace the Licensor's mandatory obligations.
8. Age and Supervision
The Software is not intended for persons under 13. This is a product-use restriction, not a legal minimum age for operating every type of vehicle. Minors require competent adult supervision and any consent required by law. Applicable vehicle, aircraft, platform and local age or qualification requirements may be stricter. Adult supervision does not waive liability or mandatory rights.
9. Third-Party Services
Available integrations may include Steam, OpenStreetMap and optional Tailscale. Workshop applies only if included in the purchased release. External service availability and terms may change; this does not remove the Licensor's contractual or statutory supply, conformity, update or remedy obligations. Review the Privacy Policy and each service's applicable terms.
10. Conformity and Technical Limitations
The Software must conform to the purchase agreement and applicable mandatory law. Consumers retain statutory remedies for non-supply or lack of conformity, including correction, price reduction or termination/refund where legally applicable. No "AS IS" wording overrides these rights. Unless expressly promised, uninterrupted operation, zero latency, error-free performance and compatibility with every DIY hardware combination are not guaranteed. Any optional commercial warranty is additional to statutory rights, not their replacement.
11. Intellectual Property and Trade Marks
The Licensor retains rights in the proprietary RCSIM components. Third-party components, protocols, product names and trademarks remain subject to their respective owners’ rights and applicable licences. Use does not transfer ownership. References to products or protocols describe supported interoperability only and do not imply sponsorship or endorsement by their owners.
12. Local-First Data Handling
Telemetry, SLAM maps and Training Data are generally processed on the User's own hardware. Optional network functions, including vehicle links and Multiplayer, may transmit selected data to connected devices, session hosts and participants. Data supplied voluntarily to support is handled as described in the RCSIM Privacy Policy, which also explains third-party network services. This Agreement does not guarantee that all data remains on a single device.
13. Termination
The Licensor may terminate the licence for a material breach, including unlawful redistribution of proprietary components or prohibited use under Section 3. The User must receive notice stating the grounds and, if the breach can be remedied, at least 30 days to remedy it before termination. Immediate termination is permitted only where mandatory law allows it and an irremediable material breach or serious ongoing unlawful use justifies it. Termination is not automatic for minor breaches. Following valid termination, the User must cease using proprietary Software and delete its copies, without affecting separately licensed third-party components or the User's own data. Mandatory consumer rights and rights under applicable Steam terms remain unaffected.
14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
Polish law applies. Consumers retain the mandatory protection of the law of their habitual residence and access to courts competent under applicable law. This clause does not impose exclusive Polish jurisdiction on consumers. Invalid terms do not bind the User; the remainder applies only to the extent it can lawfully remain in force.
15. Updates
Optional new features, extensions and upgrades are provided at the Licensor's discretion unless expressly included in the purchase agreement. This does not exclude updates, including security updates, required by mandatory law to maintain conformity of the supplied digital content for the legally required period. The User will be informed about required updates and installation requirements. Where applicable, failure to install a supplied update affects statutory remedies only under the conditions permitted by law. Support commitments stated at purchase and mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
