Steam Holiday Sale 2011 Contest and SweepstakesNO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Void where prohibited by law.Eligibility. Entry open to any user holding a Steam account in good standing with at least ten (10) games in the account’s Wishlist. No payment is required; a Steam account may be established without purchase. One manual entry per Holiday Sale Objective, one Steam account per entrant, and one Epic Holiday Giveaway win per user. Employees of Sponsor (including directors and officers) and their immediate families or affiliates are not eligible.Entry. Entries are open from 10:00 am Pacific Standard Time on December 19, 2011, to 10:00 am Pacific Standard Time on January 2, 2012 (the “Holiday Sale Period”). (a) Holiday Sales Objectives. To enter, each user must complete a Holiday Sales Objective (“Objective”) while logged in to a Steam account that has at least one (1) purchased item (a game purchased at a store then activated via CD key, or a game purchased from Steam, or a free-to-play game from Steam with items purchased). The task corresponding to an Objective will be revealed each day of the Holiday Sale Period at 10:00 am Pacific Standard Time and are listed here. Gifts. For each Objective completed during the Holiday Sale Period, the entrant will have a one (1) in four (4) chance to receive a Gift from the Great Gift Pile. Completing one (1) Objective will produce one (1) chance to receive a Gift. If you complete an Objective and do not receive a Gift, you will receive a piece of Coal. Coal. Coal may be redeemed in two ways. Either, for every seven (7) pieces of Coal received, the user may choose to redeem the Coal for a Gift from the Great Gift Pile during the Holiday Sale Period; or, each piece of Coal in the user’s inventory at 10:00 am Pacific Standard Time on January 2, 2012 will automatically provide the user with one (1) entry for the Epic Holiday Giveaway drawing. Upon redemption for a Gift or entry into the Epic Holiday Giveaway, the Coal will be removed from the user’s Steam inventory. (b) Epic Holiday Giveaway. Each piece of Coal remaining in the user’s inventory at 10:00 am Pacific Standard Time on January 2, 2012 will automatically provide the user with one (1) entry for the Epic Holiday Giveaway drawing. (c) Alternate Entry. To manually enter for both Objectives prizes and the Epic Holiday Giveaway, each eligible entrant must print his or her name, address, city, state, country, postal code, email address, Steam account name, and telephone number, as well as the name of the Objective that the entry is for, on a self-addressed 4”x6” note card and mail the completed form to: Valve Corporation, P.O. Box 1688, Bellevue, WA 98009-1688. Note cards may be mailed as postcards or in envelopes. No e-mailed or faxed alternate entries are eligible. Facsimiles, photocopies or mechanical reproductions of entries will be void. An alternate entry must be postmarked during the Holiday Sale Period to be eligible. Each alternate entry must be postmarked during the Holiday Sales Period and no earlier than the date on which the applicable Objective was revealed. Alternate entries received after January 9, 2012 will not be eligible. Each user may submit one alternate entry per Objective. Proof of sending or submitting an alternate entry is not proof of receipt of such alternate entry. Coal received as a result of the alternate entry process cannot be redeemed as a Gift since the drawing is after the end of the Holiday Sale Period, and such Coal will only be treated as entries to the Sweepstakes. (d) Entries generated by script, macro or other automated means will be void. Sponsor is not responsible for misdirected, incomplete, lost, late, illegible, undelivered, inaccurate or delayed entries, or for technical, hardware, or software failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions or other errors or problems that may limit or affect a person’s ability to participate in the Objectives or the Epic Holiday Giveaway. In the event of sabotage, acts of God, terrorism or threats thereof, computer virus or other events or causes beyond the Sponsor’s control, which corrupt the integrity, administration, security or proper operation of the Objectives or the Epic Holiday Giveaway, Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, cancel or suspend the Holiday Sale Period, Objectives or the Epic Holiday Giveaway. In the event of cancellation, Sponsor reserves the right to award prizes from among all eligible, non-suspect entries received prior to the event requiring such cancellation. False or deceptive entries or acts will render the entrant ineligible.Winners. (a) Objectives. Gifts won by completion of Objectives and Gifts earned by exchanged of Coal during the Holiday Sale Period will be granted to the entrant’s Steam account upon completion. Gifts won by alternate entry will be granted to the entrant’s Steam account no later than January 31, 2012. (b) Epic Holiday Giveaway. Sponsor will select the following winners by random drawing from all valid entries by January 3, 2012: one (1) Grand Prize, fifty (50) First Prizes, one-hundred (100) Second Prizes, and one-thousand (1000) Third Prizes. Prize descriptions are listed here. Epic Holiday Giveaway prizes will be awarded no later than January 31, 2012. (c) Alternate Entries. No later than January 20, 2012, Sponsor will hold a random drawing for alternate entries received, using the same odds as applied for the Objectives based Sweepstakes drawing (determined by the number of Coal awarded as a result of the Objective entries). Sponsor will award prizes to the alternate entry winners, if any, no later than January 31, 2012. (d) Sponsor will contact each winner via email to the address registered to the winning Steam account. The decision of the Sponsor will be final and binding in all matters.Prizes. (a) Gifts and Coal. Gifts and Coal are objects within Steam, and may only be redeemed via Steam as described in these terms. The Great Gift Pile describes the types of Gifts available here. Gifts in the Great Gift Pile may be added or removed during the Holiday Sale Period, in Sponsor’s sole discretion. (b) Epic Holiday Giveaway. Unreleased games will be delivered to the winner at the time of their release. Prize value is the purchase price of those games at the time of the drawing. Odds of winning depend on the number of pieces of Coal remaining in all user Steam inventories at 10:00 am Pacific Standard Time on January 2, 2012. The winner is solely responsible for any taxes applicable to the prizes. The winner of the Grand Prize will be additionally awarded a one-time “true up” payment from Sponsor based upon U.S. income taxes owed by the winner. Release: By entering, each entrant agrees to release, discharge, and hold harmless Sponsor from any liability whatsoever, and waive any and all causes of action, related to any claims, costs, injuries, losses, taxes, expenses or damages of any kind, either at law or in equity, whether known or unknown, arising out of or in connection with this sweepstakes, including the possession, use or inability to use any prize. If chosen as a winner, each entrant hereby consents to the use of his/her name, likeness, photograph in any and all media for promotional purposes in any manner by Sponsor, its designees and its advertising and promotion agencies without further compensation or notification, except where prohibited by law.General: Sponsor shall not be liable for (i) lost, misdirected, damaged, illegible, incomplete, or late entries, (ii) any conditions beyond the control of Sponsor that may cause the contest to be disrupted, or (iii) any losses or damages of any kind resulting directly or indirectly from acceptance or use of any prizes awarded in this contest or for participation in this contest. No substitutions by the winners will be permitted, but Sponsor may substitute a prize of equal or greater value.
