Its a sims game.. on deluxe mode with a right history that has been created and that you are creating. Are you gonna work real hard and everyone is gonna die. Yup. Thats the price. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tNice base structure, and nice stead updates, but core problem always remains, this game doesnt make good use of multi threads CPU and even with a monster machine still ends up beeing able to lagout almost every game at one point, you will spend hours on building this nice system only to end up on unavoidable stalls such as 98% of dwarvs not worrking, sleeping or eatin, simply stuck there no jobs while you have 1500x things un done
i find that the more dwarfs you get the more this problem occurs into various ways, like over socialising and never leaving taverns

Took me years to finally have the patience to sit down and figure out how all of the automation works. Many trials and errors, I have gotten consistently great built forts and the game is so fun. There's a flowchart on the wiki that really helps with getting started. Mods are really fun. Highly recommend a linguistics mod so you don't have two verbs/adverbs smashed together in names.
The only issue I have is there are too many damn kids and babies. I tweaked the setting to lower the count but new migrants won't stop bringing their kids along. But that's it otherwise. Fantastic game and I'm glad I have finally got it down. Now it's time to fixate on this in the same way others fixate on Factorio.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Also ran into bugs almost every single run with raids not happening, militaries not following orders and other weird things I never ran into with the original.

While the game might look like something that was spawned in the 80's - there is a lot going on within the game world itself and is actually one of the more complex simulations you can play.
Dwarf Fortress is an interactive story-creating experience. There is a lot of text involved - so if you don't like reading.... this might not be the one for you. With that said, even if you gloss over a lot of the text there is a deep and engaging experience for you to get immersed in.
Before you even start a new game, players are required to create a new world and in doing so, Dwarf Fortress will simulate the passage of time (250 years by default) and create a historical legacy for the world the player is about to embark upon. NPC's of all races set out to explore the world setting up villages, towns, cities and dungeons throughout the game world encountering (and exploiting) the various flora and fauna located within any particular region / biome. They establish complex relationships amongst one another, establishing trade routes and alliances, waging war while, charting the rise and fall of various civilisations.
And it's all done before even hitting the "play" button.
There are three game modes to engage in :
1. Dwarf Fortress - This is your classic city building god game. A party of 7 dwarfs set out to a location of your choosing carrying provisions that may or may not have been picked by the player with the goal to establish a thriving settlement.
2. Adventurer - Allows you to create a player character and enjoy the game world as a top-down RPG.
There's just too much in the game for me to write in this review.

If you can find it within yourself to play this not just as a game, but as a generator of interesting stories and events, then you will be able to find the fun. This game has a bad rep for being overly complicated and arcane, but you know what, so is life! Dwarf fortress is amazing, and I wish everyone would give it a try. And not only that, this game has been getting constant TLC from the developers for over a decades(PLURAL) and continues to have exciting things added to the game.
