Valheim isn’t for everyone. But for the people it is for, it is **exceptional.**
"Co-op survival crafting meets fantasy RPG" could go wrong in so many ways. Valheim gets it right:
- Deep but intuitive mechanics
- Epic Viking atmosphere with a dash of epic Viking goofiness
- The perfect balance of combat, exploration, building, and chilling
- Progression that feels meaningful, never grindy
- Procedural worlds that somehow never feel repetitive
- Co-op that is cooperative ("Pass the eyescream, please"), not just fighting next to each other
- Dying matters without being annoying (and is often hilarious)
Some thoughts for newbies:
- Bring lots of lumber. No, more. No, like, three times what you think you need, dude.
- "Valhalla is over rated, let's just live in the meadows forever."
- If the piece doesn't click, hold Shift and fudge it.
- Getting feathers is everyone's job.
- "Can you mark these blueberries on your map?"

I love the open-world exploration, building, crafting, foraging, sailing, and just wandering around seeing what we can find. The atmosphere and music are especially great and give the game this surprisingly cozy feeling. There’s something really relaxing about gathering materials, sailing around, or working on a base with your friends.
Of course, sometimes Valheim likes to remind you that you are, in fact, mortal 😂
The grind can be a lot, and while I actually enjoy the grind, it can definitely get frustrating. The skill system is probably one of my biggest love/hate relationships with the game. Dying causes your skills to drop, which can put you into a frustrating cycle of trying to rebuild your skills while also trying not to die again. Sometimes it feels like you're finally getting better, only to die and have to work your way back up.
It's stressful, but somehow that makes the relaxing moments feel even better. There's something really satisfying about finally making progress after struggling for a while.
Overall, Valheim is one of those games where I can spend hours just doing whatever I feel like doing. Build a house, go sailing, explore, fight monsters, gather resources, or just hang out with friends.

The atmosphere is immaculate. Sailing through fog, hearing the music kick in, finding a new biome, building a cozy ass house after getting absolutely violated by a troll… peak gaming.
The progression is also really satisfying. Every biome actually feels like an achievement, and finally getting the gear you’ve been grinding toward feels incredible.
That being said, the game is NOT perfect. The inventory system is kinda criminal, resource gathering can become a full-time job, and sometimes the grind gets a little too grindy. Some mechanics also feel like they were designed specifically to waste your time
But honestly? That's part of the charm. Valheim is at its best when you stop treating it like a game you need to “finish” and just start doing stupid ♥♥♥♥ with your friends.

Valheim sets the bar and paved the way for other games to follow. The progression system is top tier, the bosses are fantastic, the biome variety is excellent. There is tons to explore, many building options, and every adventure feels epic from defeating the first boss to just sailing the ocean and fighting sea serpents. Well worth the $30 price point. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tValheim is easily the best game I have ever played because it manages to combine exploration, survival, building, combat, progression, and atmosphere into one experience that somehow never feels repetitive or forced. From the moment I first stepped into the mysterious Viking world, I felt like there was always something worth discovering, whether it was a new biome, a hidden cave, a massive mountain, a terrifying creature, or simply a beautiful landscape that made me stop and appreciate how incredible the world was. What makes Valheim especially amazing is that it gives me freedom to play the way I want instead of constantly telling me exactly what to do. I can spend hours building a huge base, sailing across the ocean looking for new lands, gathering resources, fighting bosses, exploring dangerous areas with friends, or just relaxing and improving my settlement. The building system is one of my favorite parts because creating a home actually feels rewarding, and watching a small wooden shelter slowly turn into a massive Viking fortress makes all the time and effort feel worthwhile. The progression is also incredibly satisfying because every new material, weapon, armor set, tool, and upgrade makes me feel noticeably stronger while still making the world dangerous enough to keep me cautious. Even something as simple as preparing for an expedition can become an adventure, because I have to think about food, equipment, weather, enemies, transportation, and whether I will actually make it back alive with everything I collected. The atmosphere is another huge reason why I love the game so much; the music, sound effects, weather, lighting, forests, oceans, mountains, and mysterious ruins all create a world that feels both beautiful and dangerous at the same time. Valheim can be peaceful one minute while I am sitting beside a fire watching the sunset, and absolutely terrifying the next when I am deep in an unfamiliar biome surrounded by enemies. Playing with friends makes the experience even better because some of my favorite gaming memories come from ridiculous situations where we were completely unprepared, got lost somewhere across the ocean, accidentally attracted an entire group of enemies, or somehow managed to survive something that should have killed us. Unlike many games that I eventually finish and move on from, Valheim feels like a world I can keep returning to because there is always another project to build, another place to explore, another goal to accomplish, or another adventure waiting to happen. Most importantly, Valheim gives me a genuine sense of accomplishment; when I look at a giant base, a fully upgraded character, a collection of trophies, or a ship sitting at the docks, I know that all of it exists because of the time, effort, and adventures I personally put into creating it. It is not just a game where I follow a storyline from beginning to end—it is a game where I create my own stories, and those stories are often the moments I remember the most. That combination of freedom, exploration, progression, creativity, danger, atmosphere, and unforgettable moments is what makes Valheim stand above every other game I have played and why, for me, it is without a doubt the best game I have ever experienced.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tSo I will first say I initially LOVED this game. It was fun and provided moderate challenge. Then I reached The MIstlands. I do not know what sick puppy and kitten torturing psychopaths developed this biome but I hope they didn't have kids. The entire biome is just hell from the ground water up to the peaks. It turned a fun resource gathering game into a hellish grind that is infuriating to play. All the other biomes you can pass through with about 10 or so hours of game time max. Get your new stuff, upgrade, kill some things and move on, not The Mistlands. The fact everything is jagged and vertical makes movement almost impossible except for a very few valley type areas. Invisible polygon hang up after invisible hang up. You are constantly slipping and sliding down 1% grades. Looks flat? Nope sliding like you're on a 70 degree angle. Trying to stand and fight the never ending bugs the noise your harvesting of resources makes? NO! Sliding down the "hill" that is visibly flat. Trying to run? Oh the ankle deep water restricts movement like you're neck deep in wet cement. You literally can't jump out of ankle deep water. And Gods forbid the land you're trying to get to from the water has any slope because the game as always reads that 1inch rise as Mt. Everest. So you die, over and over and freaking over because all the monsters can attack when you're swimming, or stuck on invisible things or sliding down a 1inch incline and you naturally can't. I mean what supernatural Viking in a fantasy version of Valhalla can swing an axe when he's on a 1% grade or in thigh deep water? Unimaginable fiction right there. Now remember the ENTIRE BIOME is practically VERTICAL or in some way sloped and filled with water. So if you're not one of those I want to torture myself doing Darksouls speed runs kind of people you're going to get to the Mistlands and go WTF? I have no desire to see the rest of the worlds or finish this game now. My mind says to me, This is the latest biome, it's nearly impossible to play and has sucked ALL enjoyment out of the game. Do I really want to see how unbelievably poorly designed (or worse, purposefully designed to be nearly unplayable) the last few biomes are? The answer is no. Honestly I'm kinda pissed I wasted 200+ hours on this game. If I wanted to play a game with infuriating invisible polygons impeding my characters movement and getting me killed or deal with unforgiveable glitches and errors left in a game I can go back to Bethesda and Rockstar for that.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The simplistic graphics make the game that much more enjoyable. I spent almost 500 hours on this game and still haven't fought half the bosses the game has to offer. The grind is very fun and honestly never gets boring to me. Enemies feel well balanced the and the skill sets are fun to level up. I spend a majority of my time building villages. Going into 1.0 ill probably finish up my world and then start a brand new play through. People complain about this game taking so much time to hit 1.0 and that other survival games hit 1.0 quicker but those games still can't match the vibe Valheim gives off. I probably wont have the game finished until i invest another 500 - 1000 hours. The game has so much content and replay ability that its worth the money, on top of this there is a ton of mods you can get to make the game never ending with content.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
