Ice Worm does not spawn. You have to change your system locale to United States to fix it. So at the moment I absolutely cannot recommend the game.
There are so many parts of this game I love, but at every step, I cannot shake this feeling of it being "unfinished" or even abandoned. Missing or janky icons, gameplay elements that are not fleshed out, decorations in abandoned bases you as a player never get, and just bugs and bugs and bugs. I think the developers kind of got tired of this game and rushed to have it released. The improvements it has over the original are really good, but they are not really improvements anymore considering they were retroactively added to the original game through an update. So the resulting game feels very underwhelming. I really wanted to write a detailed positive review of what I love about Below Zero, but a bug that halted my base building was the last straw. I shouldn't have to force myself to dig through crap to find the gold in the game, the game should be competent enough to show its strengths on its own. Unfortunately, in its current state, it is definitely not.

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tthere was so much i noticed on my second playthrough. the little details in the environment, the sound design, the individual behaviors of the creatures, the fantastic voice acting and the characters' little quirks. i think a lot of people prefer the first subnautica because of its sense of isolation, but these two games are so different in tone that i have trouble comparing them. below zero is a story about reaching out to each other despite what should be insurmountable differences, and i guess i'm a sucker for stories like that.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Subnautica Below Zero is a disappointment, it unfortunately scales down the best part of the first game and puts spotlight on the bad parts. The exploration this time around is much more limited, the map is both smaller and also emptier than the first game and while the game has some cool biomes like the Twisty Bridges and Lilypad Islands it unfortunately cannot save the experience. Not to mention the game for a bizarre reason has a much more prominent onland part, why? Seriously it is as if the dev team decided to bring forward the worst parts of the first game and make them even more annoying.
Same goes for the story, which tries to tackle 2 plot threads, you start out going to the planet to figure out what happened to your sister and to my surprise this plot gets sidelined so hard to the point it seems the game itself forgets about it because you can finish the game without even figuring it out. It is as if that thread became a sidequest except its the reason why you came to the planet in the first place.
Now there are some upsides, the building part of the game has been improved with more things to build (these were however patched to the first game so it is no longer that much of an improvement), the graphics stay strong as does the sound design and the few cool biomes are actually really cool. The performance and pop in have also improved but the game slows you down to make the small world seem a little bigger which might be the only reason why.
Achievement wise just like the first game you basically only need to complete the story, do a bunch of crafting which you will likely do naturally as you play, the only thing you might not craft is the Jukebox which has an achievement for it which is Jukebox Hero. However after finishing the game you can return to your save and just craft it so its not a big deal.

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tDespite being shorter than Subnautica, featuring a smaller map and a quite rough story, I think Subnautica: Below Zero is a strong entry into the line-up, and my personal favourite.
The map is beautiful, a joy to explore and build bases around, and has lots of on-foot areas that weren't used as heavily in the first game for obvious reasons. The leviathans are still dangerous threats that can catch you off guard and scare you, and even more common hostile fauna like the Cryptosuchus or Brute Shark will give you quite a scare if you're not careful.
The story as I'm sure many people know, was changed last second, and while left many disappointed I don't think the current story is bad. But I do have one major gripe which is how the story sets up a major plot point where Robin's sister is dead due to negligence, and this is the major driving story point. The story makes many, many remarks that Sam is a person who would NEVER allow something like that to happen and negligence is just something not in her books. But as the story unfolds, you find it was indeed just that, negligence trying to stop Alterra. I would've much preferred if Sam actually met her fate at the hands of Alterra and the negligence was a cover-up. Along with that, I think the fact the story can be fully IGNORED and having it take a back seat to allow the Al-An storyline to develop was a mistake. Intertwining them made more sense, having Al-An help Robin discover Sam's true fate before the climax of escaping the planet can be achieved, and making curing the leviathan mandatory just makes sense. This would tie-in to Subnautica 1's story where the only remaining sample of Kharaa is in Sector Zero. Plus, it would tie in towards Subnautica 2, which I understand was most likely not even a thought when Below Zero was being written, but since Subnautica 2 explains that Kharaa is back, and with many wanted posters of Marguerit Maida plastered confirming she escaped Sector Zero, we can reasonably theorize it to have escaped on her starship, since she was directly involved with the attacks on both Outpost Omega and the frozen leviathan.

The problem with Below zero is there's Basically no horror aspect in the game, especially compared to Subnautica 1, All the "leviathans" just don't have expectations and Tension as They just kinda popup deal damage to the seatruck and disappear, on the topic on Seatrucks Why th is it so Slow, I get the map is small compared to subnautica but That doesn't mean make going from point a to point b so slow.

Most things as far as gameplay, building your seabase, using the fabricator, and the UI feel very familiar, but the environment is very different and there's a new mechanic of temperature which you have to manage when out of the water. In practice, this just feels like managing your oxygen when under the water.
This game is smaller than Subnautica, which means there's less to explore, and also means you're given less space to navigate around leviathans. This makes certain areas frustrating to navigate through, particularly in the late game.
The new seatruck is a welcome addition though, and I hope to see it in future games. It's nice to be able to bring a whole base with you, set up camp, and then navigate tighter or more dangerous areas with just a few modules of your mobile base, versus the cyclops where the whole thing has to come with you.
The other thing that I feel is a downgrade from the previous game is the story, or more specifically, the way the game leads you toward story events and locations. In the previous game you would get radio messages every so often that would give you a direction to go, but in this game you either find the story beats or you don't. And since part of the story is optional and easy to miss, this likely means many people finish the game while missing major elements of the story.

Other notes:
Below Zero doesn't really do much to fix any of the issues of the original. The terrible super tiny nothing stacks inventory management is back. Building is tedious due to aforementioned anemic inventory. crafting is similarly tedious, lacking common QoL like craft from nearby chests. There's no in-game map making remembering your way overly difficult (and fairly stupid-lore-wise , mapping tech should be technologically feasible).
Many of these issues can be corrected with mods but honestly I shouldn't have to.
