There were bones of a good game in there but when it was out originally there were too many time gates. Now that those are gone it's a lot better but still iffy in some areas but a lot more playable to the average person overall. I recommend you grab a guide for getting materiel and to grab the Quality of Death and Let It Revive mods that rebalance the game to be more single player friendly as well as adding back in the crossover content and event quests.

First thing's first, I'm in love with seeing a game like this having the care to preserve an offline version, even if the original service was never my cuppa. It could have chosen to fade away into obscurity, leaving 100's of players who spent real money and thousands of hours to never enjoy their favorite game the same way again just like any other live only game. For once, it feels like a decision made with the creative team in mind over the management to preserve a game, and I wish that was a common choice.
That being said, my 2nd point is more of a disclaimer, and that is the caveats that come with a live-designed game translating into an offline port.
Be warned. This is a grindy, and I mean GRINDY game! Offline mode has made a ton of sweeping balancing changes to the required material grinds and of course the premium features now using the default in-game currency. But even with all of those changes, expect to get comfy with the wiki and a lot of slow trial by error. The game has some hard-hitting walls that are noob checks by design, and being underprepared can result in some brutal deaths that costs you time spent recovering. Thankfully, you can now revive through insurance for a price of killcoins, send items to base for a small price, or have one of your backup fighters retrieve them once defeated as a hater. There's little reason to be scared of dying offline, just be sure to avoid repeat mistakes with your backup.
A lot of tips you learn can also be obtained by Meijin at the arcade, but they're mostly random single facts handed out across intervals. You're better off consulting the wiki for material locations and room rotations as many of the blueprints and items you research have a specific range of floors, which also spawn by chance, not guaranteed. Best advice I can give you is to slow your goals, because there's no real way to speed through without some time spent on knowledge and skill.
For $20, I'd say it's worth it. There's a decade worth of content here for a new player to experience. I still find some of the progression to be quite annoying with how fast your durability drains on weapons and armor, but I have been noticing it the less I'm hit & the less I miss, so really it's myself to blame for the bulk of the loss. But again, I know how a lot of heavy grinding turns people away, so I'd best be careful if you're reading this looking to enjoy something more streamlined, you're not getting that here.

Its an excellent game by all means, and basically the only one of its kind thag I know of, a roguelike souls thing dungeon crawler in which you can customize your character in many different ways to survive harder and harder runs into the dungeon.
