There were bones of a good game in there but when it was out originally there were too many time gates. Now that those are gone it's a lot better but still iffy in some areas but a lot more playable to the average person overall. I recommend you grab a guide for getting materiel and to grab the Quality of Death and Let It Revive mods that rebalance the game to be more single player friendly as well as adding back in the crossover content and event quests.

The combat, sfx, and soundtrack overall is just homage to arcade gamers like myself. No rnd cooldowns/timers is a great upside too since i dont have to grow grey hairs for an uncapped weapon to craft itself. Many recipes have also gotten reduced material costs so gear is much easier to craft now. I do miss all of the weekly quests though, this game really needs them back badddd.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI recommend this game with a caveat. This is a Grindy-ass-dungeon-crawler. It plays like an offline extraction shooter. There are different modes and auto-play mechanics. There are multiple currencies(Four that I can tell). This would be a turnoff if not for one thing. The offline update("DLC") I used to play this game when it was free-memum. The micro transactions and real-money ask after every death was dis-heartening. Now the game feels like Uncle Death wanted to mix Diablo and Devil May Cry 5. At least the mechanic that lets you come back to life for game currency rather then premium currency that costs real dollars. Though you could buy blood orbs....Bad example. Everything is earned In Game! Ya know; Like they used to be made. Like this game should have been on release! \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tWhile Let It Die often gets compared to a Soulslike, I think that comparison mostly comes from the mechanics it happens to share with Souls games. The more I play it, the more I realise that its actual DNA feels much closer to Dead Rising.
Sure, it has rolling, stamina, light and heavy attacks, status effects, environmental hazards, difficult bosses, and the whole "go back to where you died and recover your stuff" mechanic. On paper, that sounds pretty Soulslike.
But the actual way you play the game is a lot closer to Dead Rising.
For one thing, rolling isn't the all-purpose defensive tool you'd expect from a Souls game. There aren't i-frames from rolling, and jumping can actually be one of your better ways of avoiding attacks. You have a flying dropkick, you eat whatever random food you find to heal yourself, and a lot of the weapons have awkward, strange, or downright ridiculous movesets.
Then there's the scavenging. You're constantly picking up whatever you can find and trying to make it work, especially in the early game or when you're new to a tier in the Tower of Barbs. Weapons have durability, resources are limited, and you're often making do with whatever happens to be available rather than carrying the same carefully chosen weapon for an entire area. You don't craft weapons in quite the same way as Dead Rising 2, but Let It Die still has weapon and armour crafting, and the whole game encourages you to scavenge, whether that's to upgrade your gear or simply find something to use, experiment, and improvise.
And the weapons themselves feel pretty Dead Rising.
Irons. Buzzsaws. Pitching machines. All sorts of bizarre improvised weapons that are ridiculous to use outside of their intended purpose, let alone murder someone with. There is something inherently Dead Rising about looking at an ordinary object and thinking, "Yes, this will do." And just like in Dead Rising, you'll find actual weapons sometimes, or the weird scrap-metal versions of them.
Even the character customisation has that same energy. You can dress your character up to look like an absolute moron and then send them into the Tower to murder people with industrial equipment, sporting equipment, makeshift weapons, and sometimes actually practical gear like machetes and firearms.
The humour in Let It Die is definitely more Suda 51 than Dead Rising, but that doesn't make the comparison feel any less appropriate. If anything, it reminds me more of Dead Rising than the comparatively serious tone of most Souls games and Soulslikes. There's a constant contrast between brutal violence, grotesque enemies, ridiculous weapons, stupid outfits, and the game generally not taking itself completely seriously. Even when Let It Die gets dark or disturbing, it still has that underlying sense of absurdity that you just don't get as much in most Soulslikes.
The biggest similarity, though, is the emphasis on improvisation.
A Souls game generally wants you to understand your weapons, learn enemy movesets, and become better at executing the combat system. Let It Die certainly has some of that, but it also constantly asks you to work with whatever you currently have, especially in the early game or when you just reach a new tier in the Tower of Barbs. Your equipment breaks, your resources run out, you find something better, you find something stupid, and suddenly that stupid thing becomes the best option you have.
As someone who loved this game back on PS4 but eventually couldn't stand the grind and F2P balance, this offline version is pure and distilled kino.
I genuinely wish more server-based games followed this model. When a game is built around online services and the original business model eventually stops being viable, I'd much rather see the developers strip out the stuff that needs servers and release an offline version that people can actually own and play.
Obviously, it sucks to lose some of the fun online elements in the process. Part of what made the original Let It Die interesting was all the weird stuff surrounding its online systems, even if most of it was people smurfing. But being able to actually play the game again without dealing with the old F2P grind is a good trade.
There are a few things about the offline version that do bother me, though. The biggest is that some event-locked items aren't available through normal play, so if you want them, you're essentially relying on someone keeping a mod updated for the latest version of the game. It's a pretty unfortunate limitation for what is otherwise a version of the game that is finally meant to be playable without relying on the old online service.
There are also some PC annoyances that you have to work around yourself. There is no proper in-game borderless fullscreen option, so I have to use Borderless Gaming with some rather strange settings. You also have to fully launch the game and load into the Waiting Room before the borderless setup works properly, which is a bit ridiculous. And there is no in-game framerate cap either, so if you want to limit your FPS, you have to do it externally through the Nvidia Control Panel.
None of these are deal-breakers for me, but they're worth mentioning because they make the offline PC version feel a little less polished than it otherwise could be.
Still, being able to actually play the game again without dealing with the old F2P grind is a good trade. And more importantly, I can finally mess around with the parts of the game that were previously buried behind its monetisation instead of feeling like I'm fighting the business model every time I want to play.
