\n\t\t\t\t\tThis game has vibes. Massive, cosmic, “I’m definitely smarter than you” sci-fi vibes. It spawns you in, hands you a spaceship held together with duct tape and optimism, and says “good luck, little astronaut, the solar system is that way.” No quest markers. No objectives. No HUD arrow begging you to follow it like a golden retriever. Just you, the void, and the crushing realization that modern games have been holding your hand this entire time like you’re crossing a busy street.

Is it for everyone? Absolutely not. Did I get a headache trying to figure out what the hell was going on for the first few hours? Yes, several. Did I briefly consider that maybe I’m not as clever as I thought? I refuse to answer that. But here’s the thing - once it clicks, you actually feel like you discovered something, which is a rare and disturbing sensation in 2026 gaming.

\n\t\t\t\t\tOuter Wilds is the first game to make me afraid of a rock. No, it's not sentient, it doesn't have a face, it's not massive in size; it's literally just a rock. I love it. My favorite kind of horror is not the kind that's announced right in your face; it's subtlety, it's mystery, it's fearing the unknown. You probably wouldn't expect horror in this game at first glance, but this is why it's great because this is a game that explores and makes you feel every human emotion. Peacefulness from aimlessly drifting in space wondering which planet to explore or sitting back and listening to the Timber Hearth OST on your home planet. Curiousness from wondering why the hell you keep seeing a moon that normally isn't supposed to be in your solar system, only for it to mysteriously disappear once you turn your head away. Excitement from making a breakthrough in knowledge after not realizing you were even going the right direction. Surprise after finding the most 'hyped up' NPC in a seemingly impossible location. Yes, there is plenty of negative emotions to go around here too. Anger from.. well it's puzzle game set in the vastness of space you're bound to drop the game at least once before returning to it XD. Boredom from being stuck, doing the same things again expecting a different result.

These 'negative' things make the experience better in my opinion, because it's just like real life - if you feel good all the time it starts to get numb. Your baseline increases and you need one high after another that tops the previous one until you can't get higher. If I wasn't scared ever, I wouldn't be able to feel relief. If I wasn't occasionally bored, I wouldn't have downtime to collect my thoughts and further my imagination on how the characters I've read about on tablets looked and acted while laying out this puzzle for me to finish. All these 'bad' feelings are just a slingshot to accentuate the positive ones you eventually earn by (will/brain) power. If I had kids, I would make them play this game because I feel as if this is one of the ones that almost fully encapsulates the human experience and if they make it out this one, they'd be mighty fine warriors.

I'm gonna be honest, like half the people who start this game just drop it almost instantly. The most common achievement on Steam only has a 35% of players earned -_-. However, that makes me feel really good. There is absolutely no handholding in this game, you are literally thrust out into space and free to do whatever the ♥♥♥♥ all, starting from zero. I don't blame them, but them getting filtered out makes it more satisfying for the ones who finished because it feels like I earned my experience. It's like climbing a mountain - you wouldn't feel as proud of yourself if you knew everyone could do it, right? I love the fact there's no difficulty. We all have to experience the same exact world. Imagine yourself back in primary school, and imagine how much harder and less comfortable the experience of making the friends you had would be if y'all didn't bond having to do the same exact assignments, eating the same plasticky cafeteria lunch, feeling the same disappointment when outdoor recess got rained out, and having to bear together the 30 minute scolding of a teacher being absolutely horrified of your classes behavior when there was a substitute the previous day. It's this sense of comradery that makes us feel better outside of the game, knowing that 'we're all in this together'.

Everyone thought Saturn was the coolest planet when they were kids. Of course, I was included, but as I grew, my interest faded into the background, and like I mentioned earlier, I had to find new 'highs' to cling onto in our universe to match the way I used to feel about Saturn. Obscure, recently discovered dwarf planets, 'impossible' exoplanets, supermassive black holes that gave me existential crises, the beginning of The Big Bang, I was basically dead set on becoming an astronomer when I was gonna grow up. But of course, that love for astronomy waned as new things were introduced in my life. I didn't think too much about space at all the past couple of years before this game reignited my curiosity for the mystery behind celestial bodies. The bodies and artificial satellites are unique and clever, while not being totally physical 'impossible'. They somehow manage to fit right in between lackluster and over the top with just the right amount of spice. Nothing feels like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and as you uncover more and more lore about the solar system's history and why it's components are the way they are, it all falls into place smoothly like there was only one way these could've came to be. In math and science, there is usually a 'correct answer' for everything, with the 'opinionated' answers coming from questions we are unsure of. And this is what I mean - I think the solar system and lore behind it is so well designed that this final product was the only way it could've been. Idk if this makes sense but whatever XD

I just wanted to talk about Dark Bramble. Entering the suffocating interior of this fiendish planet was my favorite moment of the game. It was one of the first planets I decided to visit.. but also one of the last ones I wanted to take a second visit to. Of course I'd travel to it first because 'Dark Bramble' sounds cool as hell, and it's dark as hell, which probably means it's cool as hell, and I love exploring creepy stuff. I saw a gigantic hole in the center which seemed to be coated in a thick layer of fog and of course I didn't tread lightly, that ♥♥♥♥'s boring -_-. I blitzed right through the fog at about 500? m/s having no expectations since I'd already turned my brain off once I started beelining towards Dark Bramble, and I was immediately engulfed in overwhelming dread. Usually on any other planet, the size of it while you're standing on it looks exactly to scale as how you see it from a few hundred meters away. This was different. I couldn't see a damn thing, yet I could instantly tell, even through all this thick ass fog, that the inside was much bigger and scarier than how it was portrayed from the outside. The smart thing to do would be to instantly reverse back out, but I just froze. Maybe because I was too overwhelmed with other emotions or I just thought it was too late to turn back; either way I was scared out of my mind. The feeling was akin to literally being dropped into the middle of the Pacific Ocean at night. It didn't help that the Dark Bramble ambience emulated EXACTLY how it would sound if you were to enter an 'abyss', but it was the first OST I looked up because I love scary ambience and this probably might be my favorite one ever. If I was reincarnated as a fish, natural selection would happily pack my dumbass up immediately, cause I fell for the oldest trick right in Dark Bramble. After I'd gotten out of my trance, I decided to act on what I noticed instantly which were a couple of white dots of light in the background. With my brain still off, I decided not to approach steadily, but blast my way to the light at full speed to the point I couldn't hear the low growls emanating through my headphones. It was perfect. This buildup - the feeling of overwhelming dread as I was submerged in thick fog and eerie ambience to my curiosity being piqued, momentarily subsiding the initial dread I had, to an ENORMOUS ANGLERFISH FLYING AT ME with it's mouth open so wide it took up my WHOLE SCREEN. Truly done perfect. I really never vocally react when I get scared alone, my heart just drops to my ass normally and that's about it, but this was the first time I screamed like sissy boy after getting jumpscared.

I'm glad I got to visit space virtually. Eventually I'll fulfill one of the biggest dreams of mine to visit space in real life and I'll remember this game for giving me a taste for how exciting things can be up there :)\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\tOuter Wilds is one of those rare games that doesn’t try to guide you, it simply drops you into the unknown and trusts you to figure things out. There are no traditional objectives, no quest markers telling you where to go next. Instead, you’re given a handful of rumors and threads to pull on, and from there, it’s all up to your curiosity.

The story unfolds entirely through exploration, observation, and puzzle-solving. There are barely any NPCs, and for most of the game you’re completely alone, drifting through space in search of answers, reading murals from a civilization long gone. That sense of isolation is powerful, but it also makes the early hours feel slow. At first, I found the game somewhat dull, lacking direction or urgency. But what kept me going was a growing curiosity, a constant feeling that there was something bigger beneath the surface.

And that’s where Outer Wilds shines. The moment things start to click, when scattered pieces of information suddenly connect, is incredibly rewarding. Those “eureka” moments are the core of the experience. What starts as a charming, almost cozy space exploration game gradually evolves into something much deeper, a story about time, inevitability, and even quantum mechanics.

The game respects your pace, you can take as long as you want, but I personally started to understand the bigger picture after about 8-10 hours. That said, the endgame can become a bit tedious. There’s a point where you’re no longer discovering new ideas, but trying to piece together the last bits of information, and it’s not always clear where to go next. Combined with some occasionally frustrating platforming and the annoyance of repeated deaths, it can drag a little toward the finish.

Still, despite those rough edges, the overall experience is incredible. Outer Wilds is bold, mysterious, and deeply satisfying in a way very few games manage to be. It doesn’t hold your hand, but if you’re willing to lean into that, it rewards you with something truly special.\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\tIf you've heard of Outer Wilds before, you have probably also heard that it should be played as blind as possible. I’m usually the type of person who looks up a guide the moment I get even slightly stuck in a game. I was hesitant to play this because I was afraid of getting stuck and being unable to move forward without guide and I knew using a guide would ruin the experience. As you can tell by my positive rating, those fears were completely unfounded. I managed to finish Outer Wilds entirely on my own and I can simply say this: I loved it.

When I first started, I spent the first two hours just trying to get a handle on the mechanics and to be honest, I was pretty bored. This was because the game doesn't give you an "clear" objective and I didn't know exactly what I was supposed to be doing. Of course, that didn't last long. Once I realized the game does give you a purpose (not a "clear" one of course) but you just have to discover (clear) it yourself, it suddenly became incredibly fun. After learning how to pilot the ship and a few basic mechanics at the start, the game doesn't have much more to give you in terms of items, tools, mechanics or whatever you say. From that point on, the only thing you find in the star system is information. By information, I mean a few notes, NPC dialogues or other things. At first, the things you find might make zero sense but slowly, all the pieces start to click into place. If you can be patient until that point, the game rewards you immensely. Let me just say it plainly: Outer Wilds has the best open world I have ever seen. Yes, it might lack side activities or traditional main/side quests but it excels at something that other open world games either lack or get wrong: discovery of the game's world. I’ve played many highly praised open world titles. Even games like Tears of the Kingdom, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Elden Ring struggle with this in my opinion. As much as I like those titles that I gave as a example, they unfortunately lose that "sense of discovery" quite quickly and eventually start to feel repetitive. In Outer Wilds, every planet has its own unique features, atmosphere, and mysteries. While exploring a new planet, you will inevitably encounter something you've never seen before and be genuinely amazed. The world might not be as large as other open world games and your exploration might not be rewarded with new items, in game money or weapons. But one must admit that the sheer impressiveness of its open world is far beyond industry standards.

I am also not into rogue likes but Outer Wilds surprised me yet again. You have 22 minute loop, which ends with sun becoming supernova (you can die early and reset loop too.). You don't lose anything when you die but you do have to keep an eye on the clock while traveling. You might be rushing to get somewhere only to realize the sun has exploded and you're back at the start of the loop. It’s not overly frustrating but it did happen to me a few times. Also, since the sun grows after a certain point, it can swallow up certain "things" and trying to reach and explore them before the sun consumes them adds a bit of stress.

I can't go without mentioning the atmosphere, as it might be the game's strongest suit. In fact, the atmosphere gave me goosebumps a LOT of times (and I mean it, a LOT.). It achieves this through perfect music and environmental design. I will never forget my first time entering the Quantum Moon, Dark Bramble, and Giant's Deep for example. I can't describe the chills I got when I first passed through the clouds of Giant's Deep and saw those massive tornadoes. I’m only giving one example because I don't want to spoil the surprises, but you really have to see it for yourself. No matter how much I describe it, you need to see it for yourself to truly understand.

I know I'm glazing this game so much and if you've read this far, I’m sure your expectations are sky high. It’s hard to recommend Outer Wilds to everyone because you need to have good amount of patience to piece things together. But if you think you're patient enough, you absolutely must give it a chance. There are surely many small details I’ve forgotten to mention but aside from that, Outer Wilds is the answer to how an open world game should be.\t\t\t\t\t

What I loved most about Outer Wilds was the freedom it gives you. You start with nothing but your spaceship and are free to explore however you want — no objectives, no map markers, just pure curiosity driving the adventure. Every planet feels unique and full of mystery, and discovering their secrets was incredibly rewarding.

This is one of the few sci-fi games that genuinely made me feel like I was in space. The atmosphere and sense of isolation are amazing, and I had countless jaw-dropping moments while exploring.

I also really liked how progression is entirely based on knowledge instead of upgrades or skill trees. The more you learn, the more the world starts to make sense, which made every discovery feel meaningful.

First and foremost it's difficult to navigate, and sometimes it takes a lot of time/struggle to get to point A to point B, which makes the game overall excruciatingly frustrating as a result (including reasons I don't want to post due to spoilers). I ended up watching the gameplay on YouTube instead to not give up on what the wonderful reviews were saying about it, but even after that I'm not convinced. It definitely has its charms and what kept me interested was the mystery of the story, but I'm underwhelmed overall and would therefore not recommend this game.\t\t\t\t\t

This game is made for a certain kind of person and I am not that person. You are stuck in a time loop and have to fly your space ship around to a small hand full of planets to try to figure out how to escape it by reading little snippets of a borderline nonsensical story. It's so boring and tedious. I ended up flying to same places over and over and having no idea what to do or where to go and never felt like it clicked for me.

I'm quite thankful that I didn't play the game then, as I definitely wasn't ready for the message it was going to give me. It's a beautiful game about true exploration. No quests, no maps, no guides, just simple curiosity and intuition. I don't think it's being dramatic to say that this game changed how I view life. You'll definitely run into some frustrating puzzles, but just remember to stop and smell the pine trees along the way :)\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\tOuter Wilds is one of the first games in a while that I've read so much good about that I only waited for a –40 % sale before buying it (and then it went for –50 % just before I actually played it – curses!). And indeed, what could be more intriguing than Groundhog Day in SPACE?! That's all I knew before diving in.

Besides the soothing theme song, the first thing I noticed upon starting was the lack of voice acting, which came as a bit of a surprise. Though I immediately recalled my playthrough of Stray last year, so I guess voicelessness seems to be a thing to expect in Annapurna's titles. Seeing as there's only a handful of NPCs that you spend a fraction of your time interacting with, it really isn't a thing that anyone should get hung up on. Despite the few interactions, the NPCs where quite a nice cast with memorable, distinct personalities.

Outer Wilds is a fresh take on the exploration genre where you start out with all the tools you'll need, but without all the information. Instead of waiting until late-game to upgrade your pickaxe to unlock a new shortcut, the shortcut is already there – you just most likely won't see it hiding in plain sight! The only downside to this approach is that like an escape room, you can only experience Outer Wilds once. That's why I highly encourage new players to take their time and figure everything out on their own!

The world-building in Outer Wilds is incredibly well done, and exploring the solar system is thus extremely rewarding. Though there is an amount of suspension of disbelief required with some aspects – as you'll most likely see – even though the planets are compellingly designed and conceptually cool. Exploring the world is in and of itself a big puzzle with multiple moving parts. Freely roaming in a big sandbox allows you to choose what parts to focus on when connecting the dots and to organically change what planet you're focusing on every twenty minutes for example, which keeps things fresh and lessens the odds of getting stuck. I also really appreciated that you can see hints for places that have more to explore and an overview for how things are connected. Personally, I was merely whelmed by the ending, which slightly redacted points from the whole, even though the process of discovery might be flawless. There's an optional goal and a DLC that have an extremely minor effect on the ending as well.

I had a tough time deciding on whether to use controller or mouse & keyboard when starting, but decided to go with controller, since that's what the developers have intended – and I usually aim to see their vision to fruition. In the end I think both have their merits: steering your spaceship might be a tad more fun with twin-sticks and triggers, but navigating the world in first-person will probably always be smoother with a mouse. Both should work perfectly well, nonetheless. The controls were quite intuitive, and you can even switch what input device you're using and have the on-screen prompts instantly change to match. There were also some controls like rolling with your ship and ejecting out of the cockpit that I somehow managed to disregard during my whole playthrough, which made life a tad harder – don't be like me!

At first I wasn't even sure what part of the game the DLC was supposed to be, though I had a(n accurate) suspicion. The DLC differs slightly from the main game in that it essentially takes place in one location, and is seen as having more of a horror spin. Although personally, I found the main game to be much more terrifying, since nothing beats the horror that is SPACE (except maybe the depths of the ocean – time to play Subnautica soon...). I still get a feeling of dread and stop breathing every time I notice I'm unexpectedly drifting too fast towards the sun.

At first the DLC felt huge with explorable branches here and there, but after some red herrings it suddenly came to an end sooner than I expected. Being forced into one location made the experience a bit more repetitive with having to fly to the same place over and over, but since Echoes of the Eye isn't ultimately that long, it's manageable. For me the DLC had many more frustrating moments than the base game, which ultimately led me to look up part of a solution for one puzzle (the only time in the whole game) after hitting my head against a wall for a sufficient amount of time. In the end it was a pretty good DLC that some people are bound to like more than others.

Outer Wilds is definitively an outlier in the achievements department: after my 50-hour playthrough of the base game and the DLC I was still sitting at a miniscule 3/31 total achievements! After beating the game I pulled up the list and noticed that none of them were exactly tied to organic gameplay or advancing the story. Most of them were related to dying in some novel way or doing something whacky you already know isn't going to work. Except for a couple of annoying ones the achievements in this one were pretty fun to do after finishing the game, and provided 9 hours of additional gameplay.

All in all, Outer Wilds is a unique explorational sandbox puzzle game with some horror elements and a whole lot of space. I can strongly recommend it to every explorer out there who likes to stop and smell the flowers along the way, and who aren't completely averse to puzzles and a bit of time pressure.

\n\t\t\t\t\tWhat can I say that hasn't been. This game made me feel every emotion I thought I had and then some. One of the first videogames I've played that I truly felt like I was completely engulfed in the world, vibes, and characters.

Every decision they made seemed intentional and when it's all laid out in front of you, you feel it all. When it finally clicked and I sat through the closing of the game I didn't even know what to think. One of those that you stare at the credits as they roll.

You wake up and you know absolutely nothing in a universe that basically tells you "go find out what you need to find out." If that sounds like your kind of game then stop reading and buy it. Most rewarding game I've ever played.

\n\t\t\t\t\tComing from someone who played and loved Return of the Obra Dinn, Outer Wilds strikes me as one of the greatest puzzle/mystery games I’ve ever played. It’s a space exploration game where your character is stuck in a time loop with no apparent explanation, and you’re meant to explore and piece together your predicament along with how the universe as a whole works.

Generally, if something looks interesting (and there’s a lot that fits that criteria), it’s probably worth checking out. I constantly found myself facing what seemed like an impossible problem or barrier, only to have an “aha” moment on a completely different planet, race back, and solve something that had been tugging at the back of my brain for hours.

A lot of these puzzles are effectively knowledge checks. Almost none of the readable text (much of it left behind by an ancient society) is superficial, but instead it acts as hints about the world around you and how it works. When I say puzzles, don’t expect something like Professor Layton. This is much closer to a universe wide escape room.

As an example, imagine finding a door without a handle. You might think you need to find a handle for it and search around to no avail. But much later, you come across a similar door with some text nearby mentioning that you just need to push on it and it’ll open. Voila! You head back to the first door and continue on. Many of the game’s “puzzles” are like this, where you’re finding problems that seem impossible, then stumbling onto the easy, almost “in your face” solution later and circling back.

In the end, the game can actually be beaten in a single “loop,” ie less than 22 minutes. That doesn’t mean it’s simple or short, though. The journey to uncover everything you need is incredible, and for a game with open exploration, I was very impressed by the depth of the puzzles and how naturally the story unfolds.
