Stage 1: Building your raft (Fun) You use your hook and pull stuff from the sea. You get the basic raft stuff and cute little decorations to make your raft look like one of the crafts on the starting screen but a little bigger. You have to do a little fighting but you don’t have much to lose if you die and it’s rewarding to finally turn the tables on the shark.
-If you are playing with a friend, I all but guarantee they will leave you in between these stages.
Stage 2: Rebuilding your raft (Annoying) Now you must rebuild your raft to fit all the engines and electronics required to progress the story. There is no easy way to preserve any of the original aesthetics of your craft and all the new stuff is large and ugly. Your raft will likely end up 4 times the size it was. You begin exploring set piece islands at this point. These set pieces are confusing to navigate and the puzzles aren’t that great, but at this point it’s a nice challenge and change of pace.
Stage 3: Beating the game (Miserable) It’s all set piece islands now. Every puzzle is the worst version of that puzzle I have ever experienced. Every enemy in this game is not fun to fight more than once and now there is a lot of fighting. You need to bring multiple of a wide range of tools with you to get anything done now. If you die, everything in your inventory loses 2/3 of it’s durability, essentially making it useless. And you will die. Didn’t notice that that bear is 10% bigger than the others? He is now inescapably aggroed and he’s faster than all the other bears too, don’t ya know? Surface into a new corridor while exploring? Didn’t you notice that that trash on the ground is this game’s version of spikes that kill you in 2 seconds before you even realize what is happening? Good thing you brought extra food, flippers, and oxygen so you can have fun remaking all those!\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The premise of starting stranded at sea and slowly building up with nothing but junk around you sounds fun enough all while being tracked by a big old friendly shark. But the big question was for how long could that enjoyable?
Well the game does a real good job of starting you in that grasping survival position but as you progress through the story (without any spoilers) it does indeed offer some cool variety and locations for exploration as well as advancement of your vessel and what you can do with it.
You may start at the Beck and call of where the wind sends you but in the end, you are in control and able to plot out your course and guide your raft to destination.
The game is surprisingly very polished (for a vast majority of the game) and we didn't run into any bugs or super junk until late in the adventure and even then they were minor in nature. In our playthrough we will say we felt the mid game boss felt like a way more climactic end to the adventure than the final island but where it ended didnt take away from the experience overall.
If you like survival games and a bit of exploration in your adventures I would recommend picking it up and giving it a go. We played as a group of 3 which felt like a solid number. Not sure if there is a limit to players but I do think it works better as a small group game as opposed to solo or giant group. I wouldn't try to play more than 4 to get the full experience.

The nugget of an idea here is a good one; float around on a tiny raft and gather what materials you can to make it into a home while surviving hunger, thirst, and sharks. Islands serve as the primary method of exploration, offering up crafting materials and notes left behind by other survivors. The problem here is that there just isn't much to do. NPCs are extremely scarce and offer very little in terms of flavor or story. The loop of creating water and cooking food while managing battery life and tool durability gets stale almost immediately. Playing matador with a shark that does the exact same thing every time I dive into the shallows is grating after the first encounter. All of the other animals either aggro like the shark and mindlessly attack, or run away bleating. Unfortunately, the rewards for exploration are likewise shallow and unsatisfying, leaving the whole package a disappointment from start to finish. Playing with friends is a better experience, but that doesn't make the game itself any real fun. I suggest you pass on this one.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

If you want to sweat your heart out and rush through it you can or you can take your time building a raft you love and sail to different islands. The only thing I don't like is it ended too quickly I with there was a longer story to this game or even an open world would be a crazy thing, maybe even being able to split apart from your own team to tackle different objects would be a nice feature. overall its a great game to sit down and relax to.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The games gameplay loop is pretty fun for the most part. But your character eats like a mammoth, forcing you to spend way to much time stressing over not dying of starvation. The decision to put a perma-aggro'd, basically undodgable shark that kills you in 4 hits in an area that contains some of the most important resources in the game is also a really dumb decision, and making you lose basically your entire inventory permanently when you die is even dumber. The story itself is pretty cool, but the story islands are really boring and sluggish, mainly consisting of you just running around searching for stuff while starving to death.

In total, I've finished three full playthroughs, which says a lot about how fun and replayable the game is. It does a great job blending survival, exploration, and puzzle-solving, and each main story chapter features thoughtfully designed levels that impressed me more than once. The co-op experience is especially enjoyable and makes the game even more entertaining.
My only real complaint is that some of the achievements are ridiculously designed. The game simply isn't big enough to earn them naturally, so you're forced to grind if you want 100% completion. For example, even after three complete playthroughs, I was still nowhere close to the achievement for killing a certain type of enemy and had to resort to save scumming to finish it. The buried treasure achievement was even worse. It took three playthroughs plus nearly a month of intensive digging before I finally collected them all. That's just absurd.

One of the most annoying bugs I am running into over and over again is the hook, fishing rod, and any throwing action just stops working and wont progress past a tiny level of power making it just drop to the floor. Also when pulling the rope in, sometimes it will just stop so you have to stop pulling in then try again. These things are small when they happen individually but it has been happening constantly for me during this playthrough. There are other bugs related to game resolution and some other weird physics things but the hook is my main annoyance right now and caused me to stop my current playthough. Really hope these things can be fixed still because I would love to complete the story after the 1.0 update even though that is like 4+ years old at this point\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
