This game takes me back to Gummi Ship building in Kingdom Hearts 1. Mostly the same principle. Spend points to buy ship structure, engine, power generators and weapons. You gain credits toward re-building your ship at the end of every level based on how many points you scored. You have to scrap your ship at the end of every level, which sucks but the credits spent on it go back into your credit pool when you do. So you can keep building bigger and crazier ships as you progress. Your ship can take quite a few bullets (maybe based on difficulty) but colliding with the terrain will nearly kill you.
Ship building itself can be a bit buggy. Best tip I can give is to hold your controllers at right angles, perpendicular to attach parts correctly. There's only one level of "undo" in ship creation and sometimes undo-ing too much can mess up the attach point. At that point your best best is to scrap the whole thing and start over. A mild inconvenience.
Very much looking forward to future versions of this game!

It's very early in it's development, and i like the other reviews eagerly the update. I had problems with enemies that get behind you, and taking damage, which i find hard to spot. I belive that can be resolved with some sort of danger pointer for enemies off you field of view, or a simple more visual indicator that isn't connected to the ship as it currrently is, as it's barely/hardly noticable.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI'm guessing devs only played this game with very bad headphones because the gattling gun is almost unusable with its sound volume. Building a ship is missing a remove/delete object tool. Early level enemy fire is a bright white/yellow which is nearly identical to the ground and hard to see. I feel like the back scoreboard should display your healthbar / stats. I'll play it more later because I like the concept but ick, those issues are kinda off putting.
Also when you're building your ship the controls are sloppy as hell until you make wings / engines. Kinda odd.
I didn't see a save ship template tool, I hope it has one but... I dunno yet. I don't want to have to build a ship every time.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

It also has very good sized levels, I only wish it would have more levels otherwise it's near perfect. the game quite literally has all the building blocks it needs to be very enjoyable.
but it fails to do so in epic proportions.epic because the many obvious bugs that i encountered in only 30 minutes of playtime seem quite fixable. but despite the age of that game they have not been fixed and ruined all my motivation to explore more of the game.
since i got this on sale its not a financial drama and even the regular price is very low. but please devs fix this!
until they do this is a definite no buy title.
to name a few bugs:
- you can stack as many modules on top of each other as you like so you can have the tinest ship with the greatest firepower and maneuverability which cannot be the intention balance wise.
-once you attach a weapon the ship uncontrollably starts to fire and wont stop

I don't like that all the guns have the same listed DPS. I think the weapons should be a bit stronger. LAzers should travel faster than "blasts". I think it could scroll about 15% slower. game needs a button for slow motion. I don't like endless waves of mobs that fly through terrain. The graphics settings don't seem to work the way I would assume. Some of the menu options are hidden by game elements. Mounting guns means they are shooting when they are installed. This is the closest game in VR to that experience. Arcade mode is intense, you only have one life to get through the 6 levels currently in the game. There are bosses on each of the levels at the end and you gain credits from killing enemies and some destructible stuff in the environment.
It's really amazing that you're basically on a level treadmill. It gives you the illusion that you really are flying through the level. Some of the tight spaces and caves in the game really feel awesome and you are really there in your voxel world. The ship building is still buggy, but from when I originally bought this it has been improved. I believe I'm still #1 on the leaderboards right now, and from someone who enjoyed Xortex.... I really think you would like this game if you liked Xortex.
The ship building is relatively basic, there are connection squares.... armor that gives you more health, weapons, wings (affects responsiveness of your ship), engines (affects the responsiveness of your ship/movement), and power (powers your weapons). It's a little intimidating at first, but once you fiddle with different weapons and how your ship is built you can figure out what you like and what works for you.
The game will probably get you about an hour or two of playtime if you go through the free mode, which is easier and lets you save progress. However, it is a great hour or two. I really hope more levels get added since so far the content for me was well worth the price of admission!\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

But the interface is ridiculously annoying. At the end of one stage with some water I couldn't see the bottom of the interface and had to leave the application to be able to start another game. And more than once, while trying to build my ship I either cancelled my ship or started the game by accident because the button is right behind.
Also the way you control the speed of the ship by it's location toward your body could have been intuitive. But if you hold it naturally in front of you it is at full speed. To reduce speed you have to stick it to your face which is bad for the detection of your controllers and I end up bumping to the head set way too often. They should offer to control the speed with the thumb stick.
There are also a few very annoying bugs. Weapons stop automatically firing which make the stage more difficult and more than once I lost all my money after an "undo last move" during ship building.
And for the love of God, if you display words sequentially in a text box and you display them more slowly than I could read, you should be thrown in a lava pit. Why do you still do that?

Valve Labs gave us a basic VR Asteroids arcade game with Xortex, and Zenz has given us a fully realized Zaxxon like VR game with Xion. Nice.

This is one of the first VR games I bought and I really liked it. I haven't played it in a while but it uses your whole playspace so that you move around yoursefl stretching and crouching while your controller is the fighter plane requiring you to guide it around, under and through various terrain obstacles coming at you on a treadmill kind of setup just like an old shooter like 1942 (whatever you call those games again). While dodging you also must shoot through a bullet hell so you can upgrade and rebuild your fighter plane for the next level.

I haven't tried free mode, my first impression is of arcade. It's essentially the most fun minigame from "The Lab" mixed with an old shump like Xevious and some ship building (guy talking about 0.51 had a good description from what I remember from KH1, though the ship building is less buggy now). It's also one of those games that looks much better in VR than in the screenshots, even with it's retro/voxel aesthetics (it's one of the few retro looks made by indie devs lately that actually looks and feels like it fits to me, instead of just being made to attempt to cater to some nostalgia).
All in all, this is an enjoyable game. In it's current early access build, it seems a bit light on content for $15, but that could be just because I'm used to seeing more modes in the menu screen. I haven't beat arcade or tried free mode, and I'm excited to see what's in the future for this game. The only thing this game needs to be absolutely worth the full asking price is some more modes (filler suggestions: time trials, level select, challenge modes, endless) and a crapload more ship parts.
EDIT: Played free mode a little today. It seems to be a save file, difficulty slider and level select all in one (though honestly, only messed with it for a little bit and it wasn't completely clear. I feel I can honestly say paying $10 is absolutely worth it for what you get right now, and $15 is still worth it if you can be patient/hopeful for the updates to fill in the gaps, or even if you just REALLY want a VR arcade style shump. Fun game, decent soundtrack, not too shabby visuals, and I still love how well the square arcade feel works in VR. That said, I'm still hoping for more ship parts, levels, possibly some more modes (revised suggestion list: endless, boss rush, cheats, challenges), maybe some more enemy types... and please, change the sound effect for the flying bonus ships that appear. Anything that sounds like an alarm is always the worst and most annoying thing in a game. Like when you have half of a heart in any Legend of Zelda game.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
\n\n\t\t\t\tI haven't tried free mode, my first impression is of arcade. It's essentially the most fun minigame from "The Lab" mixed with an old shump like Xevious and some ship building (guy talking about 0.51 had a good description from what I remember from KH1, though the ship building is less buggy now). It's also one of those games that looks much better in VR than in the screenshots, even with it's retro/voxel aesthetics (it's one of the few retro looks made by indie devs lately that actually looks and feels like it fits to me, instead of just being made to attempt to cater to some nostalgia).
All in all, this is an enjoyable game. In it's current early access build, it seems a bit light on content for $15, but that could be just because I'm used to seeing more modes in the menu screen. I haven't beat arcade or tried free mode, and I'm excited to see what's in the future for this game. The only thing this game needs to be absolutely worth the full asking price is some more modes (filler suggestions: time trials, level select, challenge modes, endless) and a crapload more ship parts.
EDIT: Played free mode a little today. It seems to be a save file, difficulty slider and level select all in one (though honestly, only messed with it for a little bit and it wasn't completely clear.
