\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI like this game. it took a while to get used to playing it (this was my first action fighter on controller) but i got there eventually. I don't play fighting games because my hands are too slow to do an input, but this game is perfectly playable for me.
I like boss fights, and this game is just Boss Rush: The Game. there's more of a focus on spacing and pre-positioning, rather than reactive i-frame dodge rolls, so it looks a lot less gamified than Dark Souls does. (there are still iframes, there's just less of them).
If you're getting this game, get the iceborne expansion. it's 100% worth it. And stay away from any gear/weapons with "Defender" or "Guardian" in the name. Those are story skip gear for vets or people rushing to endgame. newbies should ignore them so they can learn how to set build.
Gear/Set building is an important skill because about 40% of my hours have been spent staring at menus trying to come up with gear solutions to problems. For everything you dislike about a monster, there's an armour skill to solve that. The question is, how do you get them all? that's the puzzle that Defender and Guardian gear doesn't let you learn to solve.

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI bought this game in 2018 at the request of some friends; had some fond memories of a full lobby, overwhelming learning curve, and ridiculous roadblocks (because why was that first Anjanath so hard). I clocked in about 150 hours before I finished the base game, purchased the DLC only to never have played it. I have only returned to it this year, at first reluctantly, but I'm glad I did. It still holds through the years, graphics wise. Gameplay, or more specifically the achievement hunting, there are some strenuous parts, the crown hunting is no easy task and the arena quests are a chore, but overall very much enjoyed it. Public enemy number one is still Tigrex and Rajang, pain in my gooch to fight. Teostra is still my favourite soundscore, and Nargacuga is my favourite visually. The community is also lovely, I've met some interesting folk - Sharkman, I will always remember you. The callouts are also the star of the show. - all this to say, I am wholly satisfied and have a soft spot for the franchise.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The only thing we find a little annoying is, if you want to complete the story in multiplayer, everyone has to join the story quest in singleplayer, watch all the cutscenses, then leave the quest and after that you can play it in multiplayer. This can be annoying if you have multiple cutscense to go through in one quest, but it doesn't ruin the rest of the expierence. It's just a little annoying.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The first few hours can be a little overwhelming because there’s so much to learn, but once you get the hang of the combat, weapons, armour and crafting, it becomes incredibly addictive. The monsters are the highlight for me. Every hunt feels different, and learning their attacks and figuring out the best way to take them down is so satisfying. There’s also something hilarious about spending ages preparing for a hunt, only for the monster to absolutely destroy you 😂. I also really enjoy the amount of weapons and armour you can make. There’s always something to work towards, whether it’s crafting a new weapon, upgrading your gear or hunting a monster you haven't beaten yet.
The world itself is beautiful and feels alive, and exploring each area while tracking monsters is a lot of fun.
It definitely has a learning curve, but once it clicks, it's one of those games where you can easily say, "I'll just do one more hunt" and suddenly you've been playing for another three hours.
