Character classess are well thought of and have very different weapons and abilities. The customisation options - both cosmetic and weapon-related - are grreat, but maybe a tad difficult to unlock (in the sense - you can only unlock a few at most from literal hundreds per mission).
My only (minor) grievance is with some mission types and seasonal additions - some are great, some are just there, and there are some I avoid like the plague (Rival Datavault raid and Heavy Extraction - both are simply too long).

-Gameplay. Simply amazing. The map is basically your playground. Dig, build, kill bugs, have fun, as long as you get the job done, anything goes. Classes are amazing, they actually feel distinct, have absolutely different sets of weapons(and several weapons to choose for each class, and each of those weapons also has a distinct feeling), so it's always interesting to level up a different class. Gunplay is fine, it does its job and that's OK.
-Quests. They also cooked well here. Most of the quests are interesting and have an unique catch to them. For expect, build pumps and ride on them like on the roller coaster, collect crystals and bring them to the base(It has turrets!!!), destroy a big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ corporate machine, defent the big drill, just collect some ♥♥♥♥ and get the ♥♥♥♥ outta there. Also, the most important feature of the game is its procedural generation, so each level's layout is unique, has its biome(which are usually pretty cool!), some landmarks(like optional boss). You won't get bored for a very long time here, believe me.
-Story. Well, you are miners, you dig ♥♥♥♥, there are some infection, yeah. It doesn't have a story and it doesn't need it, it isn't a story game. But characters have a personality and it's interesting to listen to them. Each class has it's own phrases and character, the dispatcher is a pretty cool guy and has that "dad" feeling to him. They did well here.
-OST. It's pretty amazing and unique. It's synth, if you love that genre, you will this soundtrack. To some of the composition I still listen from time to time, they are that good.
-Graphics. It's a low-poly graphics, and it's done really well. It has its style and just is nice to look at.
-Technical side. No problems here, everything runs smoothly, zero bugs.

You don't need me to tell you that. You have a whole review page telling you all these great things about the game, like the synergy between the four classes, the fun chaos of... most of the missions, the content-to-money proposition in terms of just how much stuff is in the game even when it isn't on sale (and it's on sale often). Things like that.
So you might be a little confused why I clicked "No" for "Do you recommend this game?"
"Do you recommend this game?" is a very different question from "Do you like this game?" or "Is this game good?" It's asking whether you would recommend the game to other people, not whether you personally find the game enjoyable. Most of the time, this overlaps.
Unfortunately, for me, this is not one of those times.
I don't plan on recommending anything created by Ghost Ship Games for the time being, and I don't plan on getting any supporter packs, Survivor, or Rogue Core. For the supporter packs, it's partly because I don't feel like I need any of the DLC cosmetics, since there's so many cosmetics in the base game. But for everything, it comes down to morals, and the answer to the question of: "How much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are you willing to tolerate?"
The answer for me, unsurprisingly to anyone who already knows me, is "little to none". I will now go over the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for the rest of the review.
TL;DR: The built-in mod support is bad, their handling of the modding scene is limiting for no good reason and hostile towards people who want to make the game better, recent regional price increases, and they are now unwilling to accept the feedback that has gotten them to where they are now.
The built-in modding support is laughably bad. I don't know how anyone who designed it would look at it, go, "Yup, this is something I would use", and then ship it. A 50 mod cap and general instability across the board - I have genuinely had mods turn off on me with no discernible pattern for no reason - means that you're better off using a third party solution (Mint, in this case). It would genuinely be better and less confusing to remove the built-in mod support and let the community do it. Most games do this, and it works! It's less development effort wasted on pointless things, and less confusion for new players who might not understand why things aren't working or why there are pointless restrictions that don't need to be there. I suspect the only reason we have a built-in mod manager is because GSG had a business deal with mod.io, which is not a player-friendly reason, but don't quote me on that because that's just a theory.
Regardless, my modding-related issues go beyond the built-in mod manager and go more into community moderation and handling of the game's modding scene.
Recently, when I got sucked back into playing the game, I joined the Discord server to ask how Nitra generation in caves worked. Did it work like in RoR2 where chests and other interactables are generated based on a credit balance assigned by the stage? The DRG wiki goes into some depth on how bugs are spawned in announced swarms, but the documentation on Nitra generation left a lot to be desired, which pales in comparison to the RoR2 wiki's extensive documentation on its director system. I found that odd, because the two games have been out for maybe about the same time.
Perhaps that was a sign of things to come, because I asked, and I was quickly met with someone saying, "I can't share that here, I'll send you a friend request" (paraphrased). Coming from RoR2 and other decompilation and modding heavy communities, this struck me as odd. (For the deeply curious, you can find this exchange on the official DRG Discord server here.
It's fairly clear that, despite DRG being a peer-to-peer online game with a large community backing (like RoR2), without which this game would not have continued to get support, GSG has displayed animosity, or at least a lack of care, towards mod developers on multiple occasions. If you look at the top mods list on mod.io for more than two seconds, you'll find mods like Build Inspector, whose descriptions describe being punished for releasing alternatives to popular mods, the authors of which were doing genuinely user-unfriendly things, and then getting extremely unhelpful responses from GSG. It's the same ♥♥♥♥ you see in real life where people doing things that help the community are reprimanded, while hostile folks are left to do whatever they want scot-free because I dunno they're privileged or something.
What if I got into modding DRG? Would I be treated with the same hostility that AssemblyStorm and other mod creators faced? I have no way of knowing, and I'm not interested in finding out, so I don't plan on making mods for this game on mod.io. Playing into GSG's modding ecosystem would do nothing positive for me.
Taking microscopic ♥♥♥♥♥ on the community that made your game what it is, is not the answer. Obviously. So don't do that.

This is in direct contrast to Rogue Core's pricing, which I'm aware is cheaper than DRG after accounting for inflation.
Most likely, GSG or Coffee Stain Publishing changed the pricing to fit the updated regional pricing settings. I'm not sure why they would choose the setting that increased pricing for a lot of people. You can come to your own conclusion here, but I'm not personally a fan.
I wasn't around when Core Spawn were first added to DRG in Season 5, but it seems to me like a lot of people don't like it. I'm probably a part of this camp - they don't really fit the game that well and were only really added to tie into Rogue Core. So, with most people not liking it, I find it interesting that the response to that was to add more Core Spawn in the form of a new mutator in Season 6, where Core Spawn will immediately spawn, there is irregular terrain, and the only way to stop the Core Spawn from spawning is to do the mutator that you are already now required to do anyway.
I'm aware S6 was made by a different developer, but I imagine GSG still had a say in whether the final feature was okay, and GSG were the ones that made the original Core Spawn event. So GSG most likely agrees that the answer to people not liking a feature, should be to add more of that disliked feature while simultaneously exacerbating the things they didn't like about it.
...It goes without saying that this is not how feedback should work. If I were working on this, and I saw that most of my playerbase did not like a thing I added, I would have reworked or removed it. But by Karl, GSG has a vision and they're dead set on it! Even if nobody likes it! It's a stark contrast from what long-time players have been saying about DRG's early days, and that makes me even more confused; it's like GSG didn't learn their lesson from Early Access at all and are just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with whatever they want to do, with no regard for what their community wants.
I've also seen sentiment from Rogue Core closed alpha players that their feedback went unheard. I'm not confident enough in what I've seen to say anything definitive about it, but it is a thing. And considering how Core Spawn was handled, I would not be surprised if it was true, nor if it had happened before while I wasn't playing.

But every time I opened this page, I feel like I keep getting distracted by new hats, or paints that I kept telling myself I will use. I'm not sure what that says about this game in particular, this ramble is what this game deserves. Rerrr!

(Also also, if you really like playing alone instead. You can still do that and maybe PET the lootbugs along the way. They are STUPIDLY ROUND and make silly noises. Maybe you can also ask your assistant, Bosco that would at least would NEVER complain about it to help you .. hold Alt-Fire to mine gray rocks. They can also help by staring at you while some ceiling Cave Leech nibbles your muzzle and stuff, owo. So,, Its all worth it. I prolly need to play Solo Haz5+ to amplify the incredibly fun experience. The increased cave complexity +3, infinite insect swarm, and warnings sounds super fun! I love Bosco with its silly "..." voicelines. Mayb its a little shy.
While the class and role variety is flexible enough in multiplayer, I think we have to praise how GS has been keeping up with player's need of enemy types. They really truly listened to us for the past few years!
We have bugs that you can headpat and do stuff?
One pulls you and nuke your health through walls, one blinds you. And then, and then, one explodes your whole team I think. I don't remember actually because I'm too busy falling into the same pre-generated holes. The point is, there are too much bugs! My friends kept telling me to watch out for Rockpox and Rival Nemesis or let alone these new Corespawn bugs, or something like that. but then I ask which one is that, before I immediately die anyway.
I believe if they would reinvent the wheel of actually adding new interactable enemy types or actual counterplay to literally anything, me and my friends three collective braincells would prolly die from having to think about them, especially on higher Haz+ and that is not why I clearly play this game for this many hours. Wearh!
By the time I do finish the mission, all I can think about are just grey and brown rocks. I genuinely don't remember anything from the incredibly creative mission types. We have 150 morkite mining, more aquarq mining, and, waiting for asteroid crackers, and OH! more mining but with pipes. I don't know what is there to complain about really. Each mission feels really new to me, thanks to the variety of 4? 6? 7? SIX SEVEN? 9? 10? mission types or something like that my .. paws can't even count that high. I dunno, I kept forgetting what I did every time a new drop pod lands. I like how Deep Rock respects my time by making everything felt samey so that I don't really have to learn anything new, ever!
I think that the point - Deep rock is onto something by making each mission type felt like a JOB that keeps you around without paying you.
Yes, I know there is a strong competitor of pinging Gold where your dwarf will say "WE'RE RICH! we're RICH!" But, y'know .. If you went to the Fungus Bogs, there are these giant mushrooms. BUT BUT BUT! When you spam your [X] ping button, your dwarf will repeatedly say "MUSHROOM! MUSHROOM?! MUSHROOM." Once, I spent a silly amount of time doing so, while my allies were doing their own thing. I could certainly say the host was certainly not happy about it, similar whenever I tried to solo objectives. Apparently the guides and rule book (idk what they are talking about honestly) does not allow that.
The community is SUPER helpful too with how swift and efficient they are, thanks to the lack of voting system. There will be no drama or anything, they will type "..." and you will be gone.
Both the discord and Community sounds like a great place you will like, if that's what you are into! The feeling of losing all progress you did from that almost 1 hour game is unmatched, similar to getting kicked on last wave in MvM; I think it does feel like character building though. It really prepares you for some random Deep Dive crashes where you don't get anything, and maybe some day you will be as good as them.
Why not, besides well umm .. what is Nexus Mods anyway? Never heard of them, really. They kept telling me using sandbox modification in Singleplayer is illegal or something. I think I can trust them, since its their game after all.
Although, I'm not super sure what the community meant by the end-game content is lacking. I do think the weapon system is neat with how you need to wait 20-50 weeks or about 50-100 hours for the overclock you want. Not to mention how you can promote your dwarf to get a different colored border. Bronze. Silver. Gold. Platinum?
I'm so happy to be put in this situation while getting my ass hammered on Hazard ~5+ thanks to its very realistic and friendly game design. I sure love getting bombed from literally everywhere thanks to its new corespawn bug design!! It really keeps me aware of my surroundings. Other games should really maybe teach PvE players to not fall asleep more.

But every time I opened this page, I feel like I keep getting distracted by new hats, or paints that I kept telling myself I will use. I'm not sure what that says about this game in particular, this ramble is what this game deserves. Rerrr!
I would highly recommend this game if you do have 3 spare dwagons near you that you can dognap.

Deep Rock is a very simple game where some company sends you, 4 dwarfs to HOXXES IV to mine and shoot the same bugs. Again. and Again. And then get distracted by some shinies.(...)
(Also also, if you really like playing alone instead. You can still do that and maybe PET the lootbugs along the way. They are STUPIDLY ROUND and make silly noises. Maybe you can also ask your assistant, Bosco that would at least would NEVER complain about it to help you .. hold Alt-Fire to mine gray rocks. They can also help by staring at you while some ceiling Cave Leech nibbles your muzzle and stuff, owo. So,, Its all worth it. I prolly need to play Solo Haz5+ to amplify the incredibly fun experience. The increased cave complexity +3, infinite insect swarm, and warnings sounds super fun! I love Bosco with its silly "..." voicelines. Mayb its a little shy.
THINGIES
Some do say that the procedural map generation is not exactly exciting. But I do like the consistency of seeing Molley (your personal MULE) gaining the ability to float really makes sense. It keeps the game exciting and full of surprises. I like how many gray rocks there are in HOXXES too, I helped to distract me from noticing the amount of time I got lost in the caves. I would also like to mention how you can bring Doretta head's home with you. What a feature certainly worth mentioning! Now that is the best addition yet since the past whar? 2020?"While the class and role variety is flexible enough in multiplayer, I think we have to praise how GS has been keeping up with player's need of enemy types. They really truly listened to us for the past few years!
We have bugs that you can headpat and do stuff?
One pulls you and nuke your health through walls, one blinds you. And then, and then, one explodes your whole team I think. I don't remember actually because I'm too busy falling into the same pre-generated holes. The point is, there are too much bugs! My friends kept telling me to watch out for Rockpox and Rival Nemesis or let alone these new Corespawn bugs, or something like that. but then I ask which one is that, before I immediately die anyway.
I believe if they would reinvent the wheel of actually adding new interactable enemy types or actual counterplay to literally anything, me and my friends three collective braincells would prolly die from having to think about them, especially on higher Haz+ and that is not why I clearly play this game for this many hours. Wearh!
By the time I do finish the mission, all I can think about are just grey and brown rocks. I genuinely don't remember anything from the incredibly creative mission types. We have 150 morkite mining, more aquarq mining, and, waiting for asteroid crackers, and OH! more mining but with pipes. I don't know what is there to complain about really. Each mission feels really new to me, thanks to the variety of 4? 6? 7? SIX SEVEN? 9? 10? mission types or something like that my .. paws can't even count that high. I dunno, I kept forgetting what I did every time a new drop pod lands. I like how Deep Rock respects my time by making everything felt samey so that I don't really have to learn anything new, ever!
I think that the point - Deep rock is onto something by making each mission type felt like a JOB that keeps you around without paying you.
FEATURES
And then, hear this .. You can press V at any time to yell "Rock and Stone!"
Most importantly, this precedes anything you do. Before a mission. During a Mission? Found Gold? After the host kicks you. Maybe. It is truly a revolutionary turn off your brain to interact with others button.Yes, I know there is a strong competitor of pinging Gold where your dwarf will say "WE'RE RICH! we're RICH!" But, y'know .. If you went to the Fungus Bogs, there are these giant mushrooms. BUT BUT BUT! When you spam your [X] ping button, your dwarf will repeatedly say "MUSHROOM! MUSHROOM?! MUSHROOM." Once, I spent a silly amount of time doing so, while my allies were doing their own thing. I could certainly say the host was certainly not happy about it, similar whenever I tried to solo objectives. Apparently the guides and rule book (idk what they are talking about honestly) does not allow that.
The community is SUPER helpful too with how swift and efficient they are, thanks to the lack of voting system. There will be no drama or anything, they will type "..." and you will be gone.
Both the discord and Community sounds like a great place you will like, if that's what you are into! The feeling of losing all progress you did from that almost 1 hour game is unmatched, similar to getting kicked on last wave in MvM; I think it does feel like character building though. It really prepares you for some random Deep Dive crashes where you don't get anything, and maybe some day you will be as good as them.
QOL Pass & Late Game
I think Ghost Ship did something right by adding free battle pass that lasts indefinitely instead of more biomes or new content. I'm not sure where they got they idea from, but hey more mil-sim and rainbow gun skins!! I know that whenever someone asks me about it, they would prolly say 'that's hideous, why would they add that?' and then I never really see them ever playing again. I don't know if that is related or was not related. I think I confused myself too.Why not, besides well umm .. what is Nexus Mods anyway? Never heard of them, really. They kept telling me using sandbox modification in Singleplayer is illegal or something. I think I can trust them, since its their game after all.
Although, I'm not super sure what the community meant by the end-game content is lacking. I do think the weapon system is neat with how you need to wait 20-50 weeks or about 50-100 hours for the overclock you want. It’s a new color to look at. I like the colors. Its still something new to look at. I mean the gray rocks and music do feel nice, but COLORS. The promotion badges genuinely made me cry. I didn't know I needed that. I don't know why I kept playing. My campus' therapist told me that they should have named my son after GSG, and not Relogic after my Mediumcore Zenith seed experience.Remarks

But all this time i have wasted on this game all i have done is look in the deeps of monster puh and these spider looking creatures are really annoying but i will always find a way to make them suffer more then me, and thís time i found a really good way and it was taking my friend and letting the monsters kill him and when he was down and the spinders were hitting him i proceded to pull down my pants and spend a pleasureous 34,7 seconds fighting them in their insides whit my built in body sword but thats about it. :)\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
