\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tCeleste is a very well-designed platformer that does an impressive job of making an extremely difficult game feel remarkably fair, but despite how much I enjoyed actually playing it, I came away from the experience feeling somewhat underwhelmed.
I want to get my positives out there first (because this game has a good amount of them), the game's presentation is excellent. I think the art direction is incredibly strong, although I honestly think the game would have benefited from using a different art style instead of pixel art. That isn't to say the pixel art looks bad; it doesn't. The environments have a lot of personality and the game generally looks quite nice and charming, but I can't help but wonder how much more impactful some of its more dramatic moments could have looked with a more detailed visual style. This may be a little nitpicky, I'll admit that, but it's just something I thought about.
The game's mechanics are also incredibly simple, which I think works in its favor. You have a jump, a dash, and the ability to climb. That's basically it. The game gives you a tiny toolbox and then spends the entire experience finding increasingly creative ways to make you use it. It's a very simple concept executed remarkably well.
The level design is probably the strongest part of the actual gameplay. There is always a clear main path to follow, but the game also gives you plenty of side challenges if you're feeling adventurous. The strawberries are a good example of this. They're completely optional, but I actually enjoyed going out of my way to collect some of them because they gave me a reason to engage with the level beyond simply reaching the end. The game understands that sometimes it's fun to make the player think, "Okay, but can I actually get over there?"
More importantly, Celeste might have one of the best approaches to difficulty I've experienced in a platformer EVER. This game is difficult. However, I never actually felt angry at it. Whenever you die, you're sent back to the beginning of the room nearly instantaneously, meaning failure costs you practically nothing. The rooms are generally short enough that dying feels like part of the learning process rather than a punishment for getting something wrong. You can attempt the same challenge over and over again without ever having to replay a large section of the game. That's an incredibly difficult and impressive balance to achieve! The game is constantly asking you to perform increasingly difficult maneuvers, yet it rarely feels like it's working against you. In fact, it almost feels like the game wants you to succeed more than you do! You die, you immediately try again, and eventually you figure it out. That's the entire loop, and it works incredibly well, I might say!
Unfortunately, I can't say I was nearly as impressed with the soundtrack. Most of the music was pretty dull and forgettable to me. The only tracks that really stuck with me were "Confronting Myself" and "Reach for the Summit." I know the soundtrack is extremely well-regarded, but I just don't see it. Most of the songs came and went without leaving much of an impression, which is especially disappointing considering how important the music is supposed to be to the game's emotional moments. Never underestimate how much music can amplify the emotion in a cutscene.
Speaking of emotional moments, I also didn't find the ending particularly satisfying. After everything the game had put me through, I expected to feel something when I finally reached the end, but I just... didn't. There wasn't some grand emotional payoff waiting for me at the finish line. I reached the ending, watched everything play out, and thought, "Huh. Okay." Maybe the intended emotional impact simply didn't land with me, but regardless of the reason, it left the conclusion feeling strangely hollow.
And that's basically how I feel about Celeste as a whole. I enjoyed playing it. I think the mechanics are fantastic, the level design is excellent, and the way it handles difficulty is genuinely impressive. At the same time, I didn't connect with the soundtrack very much, and the ending left me feeling pretty indifferent after everything that came before it.
It's a good game. I just don't think it's the transcendent masterpiece that its reputation made me expect.
Also, I beat the game without Assist Mode because I am a real gamer and definitely do not have anything to prove to anyone.

I end up buying it and left it hanging around my library for so long until I stumble upon a video telling the journey of a guy that 100% celeste deathless. It is after then that I pick up the game and it is one of my best decision ever.
You will learn something from the game. No matter what you think. You might hate it at first, died over and over, think this is too hard, doubt if you'll ever do it, place the game down and go do something else. But there is this weird sort of attraction, the sweetness of doing the impossible. The rythm of the game will start to grows on you after a while. The annoyance of not making it now will starts to turn into 'well, I progress slowly and that's fine too', you will struggle but it is good to struggle a bit, and before you know it you will reach the summit.

The game does so well to balance a heartstring pulling story with difficulty, making the whole game feel like this great journey through its progression. The gameplay is smooth and satisfying but difficult, with many rooms and sections feeling so satisfying to pull off while you progress through the story of Madeline and her struggles with her mental health, which feel relatable and if I'm honest encapsulated me even more. Getting through the difficult sections of the level makes you feel like you are struggling along with Madeline, having to rely on your own resilience to continue and make progress. Also did I mention the soundtrack is phenomenal and is able to provide the perfect mood for each section, and for me never gets boring. 10/10, great story, satisfying yet challenging gameplay, peak soundtrack, absolute cinema:D\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

It is EXTREMELY difficult, and expect hundreds of deaths if this is your first time playing. But inside the difficulty is a game with a good story and full of satisfying moments when you clear hard challenges. That moment when you finally clear a difficult room, or grab a certain collectible makes dying to the same room over and over (sometimes it feels like hundreds of deaths) worth it. OST is also really good too.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tCeleste is a challenging game that requires the player to navigate the side scrolling world of the Mountain in order to reach the peak, focusing on timing jumps, dashes, and climbs while avoiding obstacles throughout the path. For such a simple premise and game mechanic, Celeste manages to overdeliver on all aspects of a game in a way that creates a really enjoyable experience for the player. The interactions, visuals, and narrative all work together to truly make the game fun for the player.
I was surprised to see the depth of interactions that the levels had as I progressed through the game. The basics of jumping, climbing, and dashing were a strong foundation and that allowed for really creative level design and tools such as bubbles and green dash refreshes to make levels even more creative and fun to play. I would sometimes strategize on how I would complete a section of a level and even change my route if I wanted to grab a strawberry.
It is pretty clear that a lot of love was put into this game, down to the art and aesthetic. It is really hard to do pixel art "right", where you can create beautiful visuals and aesthetics without having this "chunky" or off-putting graphics that turn players away from the game, but Celeste manages to impress me with having beautiful visuals without any of the negatives that come with using pixel art. Celeste not only has aesthetic variety in their levels, but the game also integrates the environment into the level design, such as pushing the player with wind on snowy levels or creating haunted carpet obstacles in the hotel level.
On top of that, the story was really powerful, and I could relate to the protagonists as they opened up about their stories and backgrounds. I love that NPCs actually had a lot of unique dialogue to exhaust as it gave them more depth to their character, as opposed to other games that just cycle through 2-3 of the same lines. I also loved how the story was also a metaphor that complemented the physical challenge of climbing a mountain (or the challenge of progressing through the game as a player).
Overall, Celeste was a short, enjoyable experience that I would recommend for players looking for a challenging side scroller game or also for players who enjoy progressing through interesting levels at a more casual pace. Great music and wonderful pixel art, and a terrific modding scene for tons of extra content for all levels of skill. It tells a good story in a great way, and it feels really emotionally expressive to explore the ways the game wants you to feel through the level design.
