I came into this game playing the first two levels of NYT sudoku puzzles, and little awareness of the nuances of the variants. So the wizards finished the game much much faster than I did, but I suspect I got more satisfaction out it. The "dynamic fog" of clues is a very welcome addition because it lets the puzzle creator direct your attention to how a small number of rules allow you to make a conclusion instead of dumping an entire grid's worth of clues and forcing you to sink or swim. I will say that there was one point in the game where I was confused enough by the consequences of a specific variant that I had to go outside the game so solve a simpler puzzle so that I could take on a level in this game, but aside from that the game is very well self-contained.
I highly recommend trying the demo and seeing how much it challenges you. The end of the game is significantly harder than the early parts that the demo covers, but I made it through with patience and discipline. Even if I had bounced off of this game halfway through, I don't think I would have regretted paying for just the first half of the game. That said, there are a lot of guides for the game now and a friendly discord that will help you with your individual run.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

If you're familiar with variant sudokus, this will likely have a nice difficulty curve, introducing familiar rules at the beginning and having novel and challenging puzzles towards the end.

Beautiful interface, a really well-written story and brilliantly designed puzzles that steadily increase in difficulty. Some of them really made me think, but in that wonderfully satisfying “ohhh, I see it now!” way rather than feeling frustrating. It introduced new mechanics and concepts well, kept things challenging but approachable, and didn't require a deep existing Sudoku skill to enjoy it. It can be very difficult at times, but the discord is very helpful with hints when you need it. If all else fails, you can brute force it, but the satisfaction of working through the tough challenges feels great. The dev has pushed consistent updates improving the experience and has been adding features based on feedback. Overall, in my opinion, this was great! Puzzles are not simple/easy, but also not impossible. I haven't played Sudoku in several years, it started off easy enough to get back into the swing of it, and became a fun challenge as it progressed!
Especially if you are new to variants like I was, read the rules very carefully, it's important : ) If I recall correctly, it didn't require any of the really advanced strategies associated with classic sudoku, just relatively basic ones, but did require logic, more and more complex as game progressed - wasn't even much like sudoku at times in some of the final puzzles which I actually loved!
Loved the variety of puzzles, fog unlocking different areas of the puzzles, and naturally progressing to new "rules" and difficulty.
Navigation in this game for puzzle solving was great for me (these are not the only ways to navigate/enter info, but theses options were huge plusses for me!). Quite a few customization options available in menus.
-Corner Positions: can enter all 9 digits in a cell (consistent corner positions) - but also center, etc... I need this due to working memory/brain fog issues, huge plus for me!
-Customization: keyboard commands can be mapped (I put them to all left hand)
-Select Cells: select and edit multiple cells at once, super easy with shift key, even Ctrl-A
-Keyboard Navigation: move between cells with arrow keys (so much easier!)
-Numpad: entering numbers (or removing them from pencil marks) on numpad is ESSENTIAL for me
TIPS:
-Map Indicator: watch for the big yellow indicator on main map to help you know if you are on correct puzzle if you get stuck
-Rules: make sure you clearly understand rules, and not missing a small detail, especially later puzzles, a missed detail could be why you are stuck :)
-Colors: Use colors, lines, etc to help track associated cells
-Discord: Leverage the kind/helpful folks on Discord group if you need clarification of rules, help getting unstuck, etc... They are good at hiding things under spoilers, and giving "hints" vs. "answers"
-Keyboard Remapping: I mapped the other commands I used regularly to my G, F, T etc... keys so I could use just my left hand on the letters!
I rarely play games a second time, but I enjoyed this so much, that I might!
