The characters added were both not introduced into the Butcher's Circus nor did they receive any CoM trinkets(Edit: I seem to have missed the fact they do have CoM trinkets). On top of this the characters feel very similar to characters we already have with the duelist feeling like a mix of the Highwayman + MAA/Crusader, and the Runaway feeling like a strictly better graverobber. On top of this both characters feel incredibly overtuned when compared with the vanilla cast, especially when considering these characters have almost no useless or incredibly niche abilities making ability selection feel much better. Im shocked they did not touch characters already in the game either, as this wouldnt impact modding whatsoever and it would have breathed some life into the game, like giving vestal/crusader/PD burn effects on abilities, or touching up some trinkets that already exist for the characters in the game. And finally one glaring issue is the lack of burn resistance being introduced, and no monsters being given burn, making this feel like an unfinished modder's project, except I dont have much expectation for this to be fleshed out more
For the good however, the new mechanics will introduce a lot of amazing things we will be able to do with modding to make the game feel better, specifically with all of the trinket mechanics added but also with quite a few of the ability mechanics added surrounding conditional effects. On top of this, although burn was introduced relatively poorly, I think that with modding it can give characters a lot more diversity and even more character identity to make them stick out apart from eachother
All in all I would have to say I feel somewhat more negatively than positively about this DLC, and unless things change this will stay a negative review.
For those deciding whether to purchase this DLC or not, I would personally recommend to wait for a sale or wait to see if they decide to update the game/dlc more over the following weeks\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

This DLC offers next to nothing of value. These are essentially workshop heroes and poorly implemented ones as well.
The first problem you'll notice right away is how you acquire the heroes. Starting a new game, other DLC events will take precedent and you will be waiting to roll them in the stagecoach (where they're not guaranteed like Vestal and PD are). Maybe they're an event, I don't know, because I've had to wait a couple weeks to get through the other DLC events first. We've all played (or ignored) the Butcher's Circus before. I didn't need to hear about it now.
Then comes what you're actually GETTING, and it's virtually nothing. There's already Duelist and Runaway heroes available, and have been for years, only now they're "official". As far as the actual burn mechanic is concerned, the part to actually be excited about, it seems to be a Runaway exclusive with no hero/enemy burn resistances, no enemies that burn or altered hero skills that burn (such as Vestal or Crusader like in DD2). I can only assume this because of the lack of resistances (so if the skills do exist, they are very poorly implemented). The same would apply for any possible new hero/generic trinkets.
And that's it. That's the whole thing.
Sure, it's $6.99, and I've already bought the game 3 different times on 3 different platforms, but I also bought a 12 pack of beer today in celebration. So I'm holding Red Hook to the 20 bucks I feel like I've wasted, and now I can only drown my sorrows.

DD however has me going back every few months, and seeing a new DLC for it made me VERY happy. Both new heroes are strong and fun to play and the trinkets I've seen so far are a blast. It could've used the addition of a few monsters at least, also I feel fire is going to cause balance issues with mods because there's no resistance implemented for it. I was hoping this DLC would give the ability to make custom DoTs, alas. The classes and trinkets are cool and fire will definitely be a big change.
Could you revisit and update CoM? It feels unfinished without an ending.
Giving more mod tools is always positive. Hopefully before this game is put to rest, modders can do a lot of crazy stuff.
I'd give a negative, however it's being saved by this game being updated after so long. Many fixes that would've otherwise been an issue to it's indefinite lifespan via mods is something you can't get in many games. I will have to say that people should get this DLC when it goes on a sale.

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI am all for Red Hook continuing to support DD1. I haven't clicked with DD2. Bought this new DLC, enjoying both new classes a lot. The duelist starts in riposte, pairs very nicely with the dashing frontline kinda teams. The Runaway fights with a hot poker for a fire, has a neat new burn mechanic, and uses temporary items to empower skills. Haven't figured the class out much yet but seems solid. New trinkets with new mechanics, very interesting so far. Its more of the same, and I've given this game my highest possible recommendation to anyone even considering it. If Red Hook copied the DD1 base into other settings they could get me to rebuy this game probably twice a year.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I've played both the Duelist and the Runaway in Darkest Dungeon 2 (DD2) and used the Runaway Darkest Dungeon (DD) mod, so this DLC has a new but extremely familiar feel to it (almost a "been there, done that" feel, tbh).
Ultimately, yeah, I recommend it because both characters are genuinely good so far—although I'm unsure how these two will fare with scaling enemies later in the game.

The reason why I say it feels like a supporter pack to me, is that it doesn't add much on top of that. Some people will/have shown their disappointment. I knew all that information before buying it because Red Hook was very transparent about it. I see this as giving $7 to a company that has given me hundreds of hours of entertainment and in return I get a small thank you and another reason to come back to the Hamlet. If you have the spare cash to throw Red Hook's way, then get the DLC. If you don't LOVE DD1 or are hesitant to throw $7 their way for little in return, I get it and don't recommend it.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

DD2 is very successful, and there was no need to put development time into this, and still we got incredibly flavourful content and very creative uses of the DD1 mechanics to give us a new experience with characters that are complex and rewarding for those who are already very familiar with the game.
Are there things that can be improved? of course, but from experience I trust Red Hook to patch any rough edges or balancing issues in the near future.

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tDelightful, so far. The Duelist is a complex character with two modes that can compliment a status-causing team and can bounce around your lineup. The Runaway has a nice little Burn mechanic that helps with some bosses. The ideas around trinkets and events are nice and new, and add some new choices. I like running a lower level dungeon with newer trinkets to power them up then sticking the on big heroes for a serious run later, neat to have some items basically gain experience. After 10 years, great idea to release a fun, fairly inexpensive reason to begin a whole new playthrough. Nice to get back into the Darkest Dungeon!\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
