\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tOkey... This is Ubisoft and we all know what that entails, and after they managed to f up the game files and actually deliver a product the game just freezes and completely bricks sporadically. Task manager cant even kill the process so a restart is needed.
The game itself is good as it was all the way back in '99, but come on ubi, this should have been the EASIEST WIN IN THE WHOLE WORLD and you still manage to screw it up somehow, thats absurdly impressive <.<

At this point, I only bought this copy of the game to be able to play the Horn of the Abyss mod on Steam, which actually includes the HD mod that makes this 1999-ass game run normally on modern systems, adds a significant chunk of new content, quality of life fixes, and a myriad of interesting new mechanics. I'm hopeful for the Workshop content on HotA as well. Instant high tier recommendation for HotA, it's free if you own this license, so go play that instead. OR BETTER YET, just go buy this on GOG and own it permanently with no DRM whatsoever.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

im obviously not giving heroes 3 itself a negative review. the game is basically untouchable. im giving this release a negative review because somehow they managed to ♥♥♥♥ up selling a game that has worked perfectly fine for 25+ years
update: they fixed the dummy executable and the game launches now. review stays negative though because ♥♥♥♥ ubisoft. you dont get points for eventually making a 27 year old game launch after selling it broken in the first place\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

This is the post-debacle "fix," the patch that was supposed to make it launch. It doesn't. Windows opens it, HoMM3 pretends to think about it for a bit, then quietly gives up and dumps me back on my desktop like nothing happened.

Doesnt work on Steam Deck at all, however if you want to run it on Steam Deck, look for Reddit workaround, one guy prepared guide how to replace certain files to be albe to even launch it on Steam Deck. It is essentially just the same game as it used to be with no fixes whatsoever, leading to a ton of crashes, a low resolution, choppy mouse movements etc. I genuinely do not recommend buying this game on Steam and getting the GOG copy instead, or sourcing it somewhere else.
While you ARE here, use the HoMM3 HD patch to fix pretty much everything with the game and allow for high resolutions:
