\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tAlmost a good survival-horror, actually very good retro modeling and sound design, with the only major problem being the enemy timings, movement, and on-hit feedback, which is very lacking. I mean for $4 I should not complain, but honestly it could be much better even with some small improvements. There are a lot subtle issues with enemy animations that makes it not fun to interact with them, it's not that it's hard, but it feels kinda cheap, most of the animations and feedback is just too fast and feels like you fighting clunky models, not enemies with patterns -- I'll have to explain it in detail below. Some of the chasing enemies are kinda janky as well, the daddy can barely open doors, but his aggro music is like the entire ***** map once he starts chasing.
The cutscenes, modeling and texturing was very on brand, I would even say it's perfect for what the game is going for, very easy on the eyes, at least if you in love with the PS1 look that is. The game slightly bootlegs Resident Evil 1 with navigation and puzzles, most of the them are very basic and hand holdy, but there were a few that I liked, such as the graveyard puzzle which at least makes you pay attention. Honestly I wish you didn't pay tribute to RE1 with the location, too many games do it, and I think once you get into the gardens it feels more like your own game. The room design was kinda average, some rooms look decent with the details like the play room, but then the dungeons were not all that great overall.
The story was relatively good, at least by indie game standards and for the low asking price, there was a decent amount of character building with the sisters and various foreshadowing, as well as frequent use of cutscenes and suspense. I didn't find the game to be very intense even though the soundtrack was good, mostly because the enemy animations looked unfinished, kinda ruined the immersion for me because I did not enjoy fighting them or hitting them.
(+) As far as I am concerned, the visuals like character modeling and texturing was perfect, and I think the cutscenes looked great for PS1 style game (at least for the characters). The locations were not as good, some rooms looked interesting, but not every area gotten enough attention, there were some dull rooms as well.
(+) The story was interesting enough, there was some character building, optional lore, and foreshadowing with a little bit of mystery.
(+) Good sound designs for the most part, but slightly subpar music overall, also enemies could use more damage noises.
Enemy Timings / Animation Issues / On-hit Feedback issues:
Right now, you have good enemy models, but they don't feel like they respond correctly to attacks, they move too fast, their telegraphing is too fast. and they recover on hit too fast.
Consider:
- slightly slow down their telegraphing, not that it's hard to avoid, it's just very cheap (-30%)
- add some shaking when they move for aesthetic, sorta like SH nurses maybe
- slow down their stagger recovery (about 30%), it will feel more fun to hit them
- slow down their forward movement (about 20%)
- add some wooden particles when you damage them
- add more reliable knockback for shotgun
- they could use more damage noises
(Daddy needs to lose aggro music if you too far away)
(Reduce final boss shot requirement for legs)
(Reduce sewer gauntlet count by 1 per wave)
(You could consider giving a Daddy a chance to enter a random room, instead of trying* to open a door)

You seem to love cutscenes, but every enemy should receive a little introduction for suspense, you can do a short cutscene, or something with a bit more build up. Even like Daddy, very important enemy, just runs at you in a hallway, not like Mr.X crashing into a wall you know, or Nemesis killing your friend. You have to introduce your bad guys with a cool moment, otherwise they just walking models.

And safe to say I was surprised at how fun the game was! I had a lot of fun exploring and going through the story of Iris as she investigates what happened at the Noiret Mansion. Definitely a fun game I can recommend to anyone who enjoys indie horror titles.

This is a very very cute short horror (about 3 hours long) and it's so darn charming, it gives a specific paternal feeling and I can't help but love the little ps1 style, this one's for the boomers who loved silent hill 1 and the original resident evil games.
The story follows Iris, a young girl who's graduating in journalism and wants to be a reporter, she chooses to investigate an old haunted house for her thesis with a hands on attitude. I've somewhat grown a little attached to the Nancy character, who is obviosuly a little scoundrel from the trailers and somewhat the face of the game, but the other supporting characters are also wonderful.
The combat is simple and not too difficult, you can beat almost every enemy with a knife and slapping them around, even on hard I only had trouble with the first boss though the pistol has a quite satisfying crunch, the shotgun is also quite lovely.
The puzzles are straight forward though you'll need to pay attention to the environment, I solved 2 without even having to think or interact too much with the environment so that kinda bummed me out because I ended up missing some flavor text on the paintings puzzle, very simple yet very lovely.
Overall? I love this game, I wish it was longer, but you can't be too mad at it for the price it asks of you, this is Rosenshine's first game (rosemary in the credits?) first game, and I am quite happy to follow them to see what other projects they might make.

Which made me motion sick very quickly, but less than 24 hours later the dev fixed all of those things and I was able to complete the game the same night all on stream!!

Now, onto a game review of the game content itself!
Things I loved!
The prerendered PSX quality cutscenes. The video quality was quite low but it gave it a nice charm throughout the game.
The music is good, which seems to have been acquired and created from multiple other sources, all great choices and fit the vibe of the whole game throughout!
My favorite parts were the designs of the characters and monsters.
Often I see these indie psx style horror games and i just see reused models, a quick lil spoopy game to play through to kill some time.. but Noiret Mansion stands out for me out of most. Which is why I was excited about this one!
There is some genuine love and care put into this game and its characters and lore, and I enjoyed it a lot. Especially the last few monsters+characters. Memorable stuff.
Combat.. I would say most of the combat was kind of forgettable. The encounters throughout the game were ok.. but I want to say, I actually really enjoyed a couple of the last bosses themselves. I don't want to spoil anything but I think this is where the dev's creativity with gameplay and utilization of the player's tools really shine.
Especially the final boss, I actually found it to be the highlight of the gameplay.
The puzzles were fun too! Loved to nods to Silent Hill and especially the Outlast Trials puzzle c: (IYKYK)
Nothing that had me stumped or anything, but were still fun to do regardless.
I hope in the future to see more variety in gameplay with enemy encounters. Almost all of them can just be stabbed to death by baiting them in the same way. Which is why I say the final boss is the highlight.
However, I know there's a line to ride when trying to make lesser enemies fun+challenging to combat in survival horror games. So for a solo dev, it is all impressive regardless.
For the game's spookiness.. I didn't hate it but I also didn't love it.
There's some spookiness in a few sections but nothing super intense. It's strengths were being chased, and the atmosphere with the dark rooms. I'd love to see more use of the dark with less dependence on the lack of vision, but I know that's hard to achieve when working with the simple lighting this engine utilizes.
Please note I have been a fan of survival horror for years and deliberately seek out experiences that put real fear into me. I love the rush!
So as someone who is always experiencing intense stuff, ofc this will be on the leaner side of things. STILL, some great things were done that had me a lil spooked at times.
OVERALL, I enjoyed this little gem.

People who are sensitive to motion sickness will not be able to play this game (I usually have a few others that will mention a game causes dizziness).
Usually I try to fix this problem by at the very least, changing the resolution to 1080 and playing in windowed mode.. tbh a bare minimum feature-- is not present in this game.
I will try to look through the games files to find a config file that allows me to change the FOV to MY comfort level of 120-130 (others find 90-100 fov comfy but for some this will still make us sick) This includes not even being able to change the resolution or game to Windowed mode.
This file is not present.
I tried to tough it through so I could stream it but I couldn't even last a few minutes in the first room the mannequin chases you into.
There are no mods currently that allow us to change any settings at all.
I DO appreciate the lack of headbob and camera shake.
I will not refund the game in hopes the dev will do something about this or.. at the very least add an option to change resolution, Windowed/fullscreen, and FPS lock. Which are bare minimum options.
Or another player who also gets sick af playing games with no accessibility options adds a way to increase fov.
Also before anyone comments:
I am aware there are other ways to combat motion sickness like taking dramamine/bonine before playing.
I'm leaving this lengthy review cause I was looking forward to this release for days, and was sad upon seeing the lack of options once I loaded in.
Yes sometimes high fov can break the visuals of a game, but as long as it is playable and I don't throw up every time I play it then I will happily deal with any jankiness.
I want to support the dev so they keep making games, but I hope they don't forget about the ppl who LOVE horror games who struggle with motion sickness. It's very prevalent in the horror genre due to restrictive FOV and ppl's belief that FOV is detrimental to the horror of a game. (I played ROUTINE at 130 FOV with a headlamp mod so I wouldn't get disoriented in areas that were too dark, and STILL screamed and ♥♥♥♥ my pants at that game. Literally one of the most terrifying games I've played in a while.)
If the dev wants to tell me what engine they used so I can just cross reference it with another game that uses it and just wants me to add it myself then please let me know.
I'm at a point where I will just make .configs for these games myself. I just have no idea where to start.

Honestly, this was a pretty cool survival horror game. The game starts you off with a knife to defend yourself, then later on you find a handgun and shotgun. The enemies are quite tough, especially later on, and can eat a lot of bullets, so you want to be careful not to use too much ammo near the start.
There are also boss fights, which are challenging, especially the final boss. I had no idea what I was supposed to do, and I ended up running out of ammo and tried to fight it with only the knife, which did not go well.
The game has PS1/N64 style graphics, with everything being low res, which works really well for the game and actually makes things a bit more terrifying.
The sound design was really good. Hearing enemies move around and opening doors made me really scared to move about. Every time I opened a door, I was expecting an enemy to be standing behind it, ready to jump me.
The music was also great. I love Silent Hill style music, and this game has that creepy, dark ambience to it. Seriously, great job on the soundtrack.
Overall, this was quite a fun survival horror game, and I might try the harder difficulty as well as attempt to speedrun it.

I've never heard of Vessels: Noiret Mansion before but it showed up in my steam recommendation calendar and it cought my attention. I could tell it was inspired by Resident Evil 1 and after finishing that game (REmake) I was craving more survival horror puzzle games.
Vessels is exactly what I wanted! It is very short but there's a lot of things to uncover after the first playthrough. I loved the aesthetic and enemy design. Weapons were nice but I didn't like the shotgun because there was no visual indication of the bloom of this gun.
The puzzles were fun and creative without being hard so if you're looking for difficult puzzles this game might not be for you. The stalker enemy was scary but not annoying (like Mr X) as he was only present for a short period of time. I was honestly shocked by the variety of enemies. The first monster reminds me so much of Liliya from Outlast Trails. The level design was good but I wish the Mansion was a little more original, it was too reminiscent of the RE one. The garden was my favorite location by far!
Story was interesting but not really my thing, I wish the cult and the resurrection ritual were explained more. I also noticed some minor gameplay issues: the doors close even when you're standing next to them and they push you in a weird way, NPC's and some enemies show up out of nowhere and I think it was supposed to be like that but it ruined my immersion, I wanted to inspect the key items I got, instead of being told by a task bar where to go, so it would be nice to be able to examine your items in the inventory. Most of those are just little things.
The last boss took me some time to figure out because the weak spots aren't really visible nor easy to shoot but on the third try I got it. I was preserving ammo in the earlier parts of the game and I'm so glad I did that- .The ending was nice and I liked the feel of this game.

This game is fantastic, I played the demo a while ago and all the promise it showed the full game delivered. Now it is on the short side but I honestly don't mind as I am getting older and I tire of modern games bloating their playtime with useless padding. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tShocked that I'm going to be the first negative review. The combat is abysmal. Jank is off the charts, you can barely tell that you're properly hitting the enemies. The game instructs you in the middle of combat to stun the enemy by pressing E, but pressing E does nothing and the enemy will get a free hit in. You stun the enemy by mashing left click to attack. Three out of three combat encounters I made it to involved the game locking the door I entered through. In the first case, that had me running in circles taking hits because I had no weapon and didn't see/hear the door BEHIND ME magically open on its own. In the second case, the enemy planted itself in perfect stabbing range so it never had a chance to hit me as I'd easily stunlocked it. And in the third case I was once again running in circles trying to figure out how to exit because THIS enemy is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ INVINCIBLE. Everything in the game looks so pixelated it's hard to tell what's even interactable unless it's glowing.
