I wasn't alive in the 70s, but I've seen the hair, outfits and listened to the music. I play spotify mixes for each year of the game, and am completely immersed. Good soundtracks in the game, but selection is limited (as to be expected). Fair learning curve and difficulty when starting, but there is a tutorial. Also a playthrough on youtube by Hustonism, which is helpful to get a good idea of the game.

If you play for large markets using popular music genres, there is a gameplay loop that will essentially guarantee you steady returns, eventually very large ones.
For me, the core problem is that every band or artist is capable of being perfect in every aspect of performance. It doesn't matter whether they are discovered as a one-star garage band; there appears to be no training cap in any category, so given time, literally everybody can be a perfect songwriter with a perfect look, a perfect sound, and perfect performance skills. In fact, at the outset, you're playing against multiple other labels who feature rosters of perfect artists. There is no incentive to specialize or to find an under-explored niche and no real incentive to spend a lot of resources on talent hunting. It's an interesting tycoon scenario but it isn't the music industry.
Suggestion: make certain categories (songwriting, look) fundamentally resistant to improvement through coaching and impose hard caps in other categories. Nerf the "vendor" songwriters so that the skill becomes meaningful. Make scarcity of talent a meaningful thing, and give some of the newly created talents higher base stats in the change-resistant categories. When my A&R team, sifting through reams and reams indy dross, discovers the in-game equivalent of Taylor Swift or the Beatles, I want my heart to race--and when that potentially elite artist winds up with attitude issues or a drug habit, I want to really sweat about it rather than shrugging and moving on to the next band in the stack.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Your first few runs will end in absolute disaster if you play on the Nobody mode in order to earn achievements, but that is all part of the learning aspect of the game. Each week will feel stressful as you make pennies on the dollar as greedy publishers take 90% cuts and your artists become ever more demanding. Your main act who has kept the label afloat, now has a crippling drug addiction and you find yourself spiraling into debt to keep their treatments in place. All will feel doomed yet again. Then you will have that big break! Money will come pouring in after a hard fought recording process creates a hit or maybe a merchandise line has a surge of sales due to a fad, You get cocky and start buying radio stations or maybe open your own stores to stick it to those greedy publishers....and then the week clicks over and now you find yourself in the red yet again. But you've been here before, 200K in the hole is nothing to you now. Gotta spend money to make money. Your flagship main act has finally finished their addiction treatment and good news for them on their first day back...you have just booked them on a whirlwind international tour.
