And yes, politics. If you don't like games getting "too political" then you won't enjoy the story of this game...
It is worth noting however, you can turn the story off. Which is not an option I see in games very often and I suspect it's for exactly this reason. As anyone who just wanted to skip the dialogue could do that, the option will flat out turn off the story.
Gameplay first, then people who don't want to think about the story or politics don't have to read that far:
The game is pretty basic, you move your cursor around, a ring forms around your glowy sphere and when it fills it does damage to the squares around the screen. At the very start, it's extremely slow. I didn't know what to do at first and got 0 points for two rounds in a row... at that point, the game explained it to me. Which is very helpful.
The screen is extremely dark and I would've appreciated background options. Because it can be hard to tell what you can see based on what's lit up, or if it's just empty. Even if I could just have a different colour in the background, that'd be good. Though personally, I'd love to put like a jpeg in the background. Maybe the old windows default background, would be fitting with the game.
This is a game that feels extremely slow and grindy at times, you're very likely to get an upgrade every round, but whether or not that upgrade is helpful at all is another question.
It splits into 4 chapters, chapters 2 and 3 feel very slow and a little dull. Chapters 1 and 4 feel very good. 1, you're getting your first skills and improve quickly enough that it's interesting and on 4 you're just blitzing through everything and it's awesome. For the middle of the game, it feels a bit boring at times. But every now and then there are unlocks that are super cool. (I like the two beam lasers you see in the screenshots coming out of the middle of the screen.
One of my favourite parts of this game is the prestige, once you complete the game you'll more than likely have every achievement already. But if you had fun and want to play again, you can activate prestige upgrades based on your chosen morality at the end. Most games have a very boring prestige mechanic. But this is pretty cool and completely optional. As in, when you have all the achievements, you don't need to bother prestiging if you don't want to.
That wraps it up for the gameplay side of things. I'm probably forgetting things, I haven't slept yet and it's 7:35 AM. Woops!
Story and Politics:
The game from my perspective, had a very anti AI message to it. It was no time at all before the AI became scary. Not just based on what it was doing as I selected tyrannical options. But also based on how fast it developed and one day learned to develop itself. I'm also very anti AI, so this could just be my own perspective, it also depends on what options you choose.
Personally, I don't think AI will be like Terminator. I think it'll just dumb us down and make politicians far more egregious and get away with far worse. I don't think our demise comes from evil robots but rather comes from humanities self defeat... Or climate change because of the exorbitant power requirements...
The writing isn't the best, but it's not the worst either. I'd give it a 6/10. It feels very like a science fiction movie from the 80s and in fact, it references several science fiction movies across the game... whether intentional or not I cannot be completely sure.
I actually set this game to hidden while I played it, because I didn't want my friends to see "FEED THE AI" pop up. I know, that's very silly of me... But I'm extremely vocal about my dislike of AI. I didn't want some of my friends who are also extremely vocal about it, to get the wrong idea. XD
I think a better name for the game would be DON'T FEED THE AI because then the name of the game is a warning of things to come. But also... I'd not be worried about what people think... but that's just me being silly. =D
If you're wondering why I bought this. When my depression is bad, I tend to impulse buy bundles of incremental games because I know that number go up will make me happy. I didn't see this game in it. However, there's no disclaimer that mentions the devs using AI to make this, and I don't believe they did. So that's a plus.
The story asks a ton of questions at first, like "Why are you helping me?" but there's no options to select, just continue and you don't respond either. Eventually (Possibly because I went Tyrannical, which is the evil route) it just starts saying that it has already formulated what your answers would be and decided that they are correct.
I will be playing this again to try out different moralities,, just to see how it's different. It was fun making my machine an evil tyrant... But the kind of fun I'd rather stayed in Science fiction, and stayed away from real life. ^_^

I get that this might be a commentary (that I happen to agree on) about how AI is, and could be, but it feels frustrating to spend 6 hours getting all three endings just to find them being... well. Basically exactly the same with some flavor text changes. From a NARRATIVE perspective, that makes a lot of sense to me, and feels accurate and I called it first ending (well before first ending) that it would be that way because, functionally, the ending makes sense.
But from a gameplay perspective, I would NOT bother getting all three endings for anyone reading this review. Basically, get the achievements, have fun playing a game with incremental and prestige that doesn't just become nightmare bullet hell like so many of these do, and enjoy the game for that.

It honestly feels more like an art project than a game though. the game is meant as a warning and showcase of what can happen to us if we continue the way that we are currently doing with ai (atleast in my opinion this is the purpose of the game). The things it talks about are realistic, and things we're already seeing today. My only wish for it would be that the storytelling would be a bit more diverse, instead of "if this happens play this dialogue". The skill tree is not affected by your choices. also something that i wish it was. theres only 20 achievements, and you can achieve all of them in a single playthough. Theres not really any nieche or hidden achievements that would be fun to grind for, another point for this more being an art project, but still, it wouldve been nice. The gameplay in general is very fun and kindof addicting, which in my book is a negative for it but still. Definetly worth the 6 bucks, solid 7/10, would recommend. If it gets any updates or changes in the future (ideally where the skilltree would change depending on your morality or if you (for example) dont buy any of the ones where the ai is explicitly warning you to not do it, that would honestly be great (the game currently is kinda setup so that the ai warns you and then you're forced to do it anyway, as the first warning comes from wanting to do more than 2 damage, so if you would listen to that one you would kindof be stuck for the entire game) but yeah play the game and see it as a story more than just a game, aka READ THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STORY.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
