\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tHonestly, I am torn between how I should vote on this. Realistically, if Steam had the neutral reviews, this would be where I categorized it. The start of this game is strong, as you are quickly put into your objectives after losing a game of cards to what I assume is some sort of demon. However, I simply do not see much of the appeal for sticking around. There are some pretty scenes, but the art isn't something I would praise beyond the fact that it is unique and hand drawn with great care. Character designs were interesting as well, but at times I still felt that I was looking at the same person or hearing the same story but in a different font. You traverse slowly across the USA, trying to hear smaller stories in order to tell them to people you meet at campfires to get their larger stories. While this is well enough, and the short vignettes are entertaining, they are too short to be overly impactful. In fact, I often had troubles recalling what the titles were related to when recounting them as many did not stay in my mind. Although there were many outliers to this, and I did adore a few, it just seemed to me the majority were too similar or had such inconsequential matters in them that they never stuck out. When recounting them back, I also got frustrated as I felt you were never encouraged to really expand your wheel after you leveled up the embellishments and had a few versatile yarns. I felt it would have been more impactful narrative wise if your character was made to never repeat the same story or at least had more options for later game conversations and not needing to appease the eye leveler thing. While I did enjoy the overarching stories, sadly none stuck around enough for me as well. A few also did come off as preachy towards communism, which while may be relevant to the situations, just felt very unnaturally slipped in. I was not a fan of the music. I was also not a fan of the gameplay outside of the choosing stories. Like many others, I felt the walking was a complete slog to get through. It is painfully slow, the minigame does little to improve it, and even the cars could be tedious. What I believe would improve this would be allowing the player to teleport from the start of the game from city to city, given the devs did not just want to add a sprint button. Further on that, the map could use an overhaul as well. It was cool to be able to toggle on and off markers, see where you had yet to explore and be able to keep track of where you needed to be next, but the main problem was that I often found it difficult to understand myself directionaly within the map. Having the autowalk feature on takes away the compass, so on a couple of occasions I went in the opposite direction simply because there is no indication as to where you are facing within the map. Further, it would be majorly beneficial - especially for international audiences - if the devs included labels for each of the cities used in fast teleport. How am I supposed to know that Miami is nowhere near Washington? I've never been to either! Honestly, this is a good game. Its clear a lot of love went into it. There are just so many quality of life things that need to be improved to really make it exceptional. In all honesty, though, if it were not for the obvious care and indie status of the developers, I would not be recommending this. I think this game would do a lot better on a mobile market, honestly. Its not something I would say you should sit down and play for hours in one sitting, because everything blends together. Taking it out for a few minutes at a time and playing it like short form content would be better, given each of the stories is so short and you quickly move on to the next one. I don't regret my time, and obviously it goes on major sales often, but I certainly did not enjoy it to the full extent it could have been enjoyed had more things been optimized. And as far as I am concerned, most these issues are easy fixes the developers could easily add in. Outside the Steam rating, I do not recommend this, especially as there were performance issues despite it essentially being a visual novel.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
