\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tAfter hundreds of hours in Satisfactory, few dozen in Factorio, and another hundred plus in random other factory / automation games, this one drew me in due to a few unique concepts like the heat management and the pollution / farming combo. ~14 hours in so far. And I'd say it's decent. If you like the automation genre, you'll recognize a lot of the trends / problems and solutions. I personally love the fact that this game also involves a level of verticality that 2D games lack.
Edit to add: The developer is super responsive and actively taking feedback into consideration. Join the discord, leave some questions / comments / concerns, 95% chance he gets back to you on it. I've seen a few signification patches in the 3 days I've been playing the game. Love to see that level of back and forth with a player base.
A few minor gripes:
1. Ore scarcity has been the bane of my playthrough. Securing ~40k deposits of the big 3 (Iron, Copper, Coal) and automating the first two research packs, ran out one by one while I was trying to secure a more reliable source of sand.
2. The belts / logistics so far. I haven't unlocked Drones, but running belts all over the world is less straight forward than some other games. I'd love if there was an "auto destroy plants" or "Auto level" option, just something for my nanobots to do while the belt is being constructed. I find myself manually leveling 3 block wide highways to run materials from one location to another, and I think that's been the bulk of my playtime. Maybe this would be less frustrating if it weren't magnified by gripe #1 (resources seem to run out quickly -> having to build more conveyor highways.)
3. The recipe / load balancing is not intuitive. Take the foundry MK I for example. The recipe to make iron ingot is 8s long, and takes 1 iron. But it also requires fuel. The foundry MK I runs at a craft speed of 0.5x, so the recipe is actually 16s in practice and still only needs 1 iron. But you've got to do some math to figure the coal. The building requires 150 kW, each coal provides 7.5 MJ. So do (0.15*10^6) / (7.5*10^6) to get 0.02 coal per second... So the foundry MK 1 will produce 60/16 = 3.75 Iron Ingot per minute, and use 3.75 iron ore and 1.2 coal... I would much prefer if this information was in the recipe itself, or even somewhere in the wiki how to calculate it. I'm not one to shy away from a complicated system, or do a bit of napkin math, but it'd be nice to have a more streamlined reference.
4. The game has a built in planner, that should be a plus. But it's fairly limited in the fact that it only allows you to set "targets", such as "3.75 iron ingot per minute" - A big plus on the planner though, it does tell you how much excess capacity you'll have. For example, if you want 3.0 iron ingot per minute, the planner will tell you to build a single foundry which will produce an excess 0.75 units per minute which you can use elsewhere at your discretion.
5. building vertically is beneficial, but it's a major pain. Because you the player are a floating drone thing, your camera is bound to the drone thing. To build inside buildings you have to go inside the buildings. Once you've got a roof on, your ability to see from the top down is pretty much nonexistent. If you've built a multi-level factory and something goes wrong with the base level... Good luck finding the problem and sorting it out.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tAs the game currently stands, I cannot recommend Fluxwerks. I don't enjoy building power plants with almost 100% of my game time, since they generate such a small amount of power compared to what buildings demand. Mines are very, very shallow, and so you have to spend a lot of time setting up new coal mines constantly! Want to build a tree farm to lessen your coal burden? First off good luck, plants 'wither and die' for no reason, secondly that also takes forever to level out a farm plot, and thirdly the output is miniscule compared to demands.
Want to go with renewables instead? You'll just be searching for copper instead of coal since their maintenance costs are many times higher than other buildings. Plus you need coal anyway to power the foundries that are making the copper repair packs!
There's no fast travel (at least not within the first 15 hours of gameplay) so I hope you enjoy slowly fluttering around the landscape manually attending to things.
The good news is that all these things are fixable within Early Access, and the devs are indeed working on the game actively as of this posting. Fuel value and/or power production needs to be at least doubled or tripled, movement speed needs a buff (shift should speed you up, not slow you down ffs), and renewables shouldn't be more maintenance-heavy than other things: you already need 100 solar buildings to match 6 steams, no reason to make that mean you need 600x the maintenance to match!! (Plus you can shelter steams to further reduce their maintenance: can't do that to renewables)\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I really like the automation and production side of the game. There’s always something to improve, expand or optimize, and watching everything come together is super satisfying.

It's an extremely satisfying blend of exploration and automation, and the voxel design makes it feel a lot better to place everything down and map out your factory when compared to more freeform stuff like Satisfactory, where wrestling with the terrain becomes a big pain point that FluxWerks doesn't have. Once you're used to the controls, which I found to be fairly intuitive, planning out your factory and logistics is pretty painless. The very few things I wrestled with such as slightly clunky belt logic were pretty easy to figure out after a little trial and error, and given that it's a voxel game, it mostly made sense why it's designed in a way that doesn't always work how you want it to at first, but is fairly straightforward to get the hang of with a little patience. The tech tree is large and from skimming through the achievements there seem to be a lot of interesting mechanics to puzzle through in the future, which is impressive so far for an early access factory sim. I enjoy the added small difficulty of handling temperature by using different climates, which isn't something you see very often in this genre either.

Ill revisit later and hope they improve on what should be a very easy to use logical system which is core to what this game is trying to do but fails miserably.

While I'm open to new ways of doing things this just doesn't feel obvious or easy. A quick look at my game library shows i have played most of the popular games in this genre so its not as if I haunt ran a million miles of belt already :)
Turning a 90 works sometimes like you would expect. The next time I try its not connected or disconnects something else. The routing block sometimes outputs, sometimes doesn't. So i guess my source of frustration is the connection system is just super hit or miss in tight spaces. Of my 4 hours of playing at least half of it was trying to get the belts to route and connect in what appeared to be acceptable space.
None of that is very specific i suppose. Just wanted to follow up!

It's fun. I found it scratched the factory itch quite well, and was consistently happy to plan and fix in a nearly endless loop. Early progression is fantastic - I felt like I was unlocking new things at a reasonable pace. There is a LOT of QOL that is available right out of the gate. Is it factorio? Not quite, but Pete is constantly adding new things.
He is listening to feedback quite well currently, and it will go a long way to ironing out the rough edges. I love the nanobot system quite a bit.
Mining with a swarm is fun, and queueing manual tasks reminds me of when you have a fat robotics system in Factorio. Ratios are easy to understand, and seem to be balanced out well.
The temperature and compute system is a neat additional layer to solve as you try to balance the needs of your ever growing factory.
However - After about halfway through the tech tree, the game ground to a halt. You're in a constant battle to find resources, fix problems, and plan your next build - all before you run out of resources from that first patch. I really wanted to beat the game on default instead of using infinite resources, but my progress stalled as I tried to provide power for everything while pushing through at a reasonable rate. At the quantities required (up to 14k science per upgrade) I managed to balance a meager 64 science per minute while fighting with bringing in enough water to operate my compute/boiler loops. Skill issue? I don't know. I didn't solve it and honestly just didn't care to keep trying anymore. There's a deep vein extractor deeper in the tech tree which may fix a lot of my issues, but I found myself not wanting to open the game again and try and attempt to get back to a neutral state to try and push towards it. I debated wiping the entire factory and trying again, but I'll just wait a few months and check back in.
I'll return to this game in the future, I am sure of it. I think if the current development trend continues, it shouldn't take too long for that to happen. Game has a ton of potential. I don't regret buying it either, even if I don't return down the line.

Relaxing - no clocks to beat, no hoards of Zombies/Bugs/Spiders/Wolfs - just a relaxing planning (Unless you want the Xenobloom enabled) and building factory game with beautifully done art, effects and sound. A mellow musical score that beats many (most?) other games in terms of adding to the immersion and gameplay.
PLAY THE DEMO - the game has some added complexity in terms of 3 demisions over Factorio's 2. But once you spend an hour or two mastering the Aera Select Tool the game becomes fluid.
RECOMMENDATION TO DEV: The ability to Aera Select with ALT key isn't mentioned in the tutorial section and is disabled - this almost caused me to uninstall the game as I didn't want to deal with each Z level one at a time. I only found the ALT key after finishing the Tutorial - This should be enabled irrespective of the step you are in the Tutorial.

It only just released in early access, but tiny usability features make it feel more 'finished' than a lot of games I've played from AAA studios. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tAs someone with almost 2,000 hours in Factorio I can honestly say that Fluxwerks is a damn good entry into the manufactory genre. This is the one that will scratch the itch that all the other games failed to do.
A lot of games in the manufactory genre tend to focus on one aspect and fail to grasp key QoL features that these sorts of games need. Take Satisfactory for example, it looks great but you have to do everything in first person. Same goes for Hydroneer. Foundry... ugh! Fluxwerks has been built from the ground up with QoL in mind and that's an understatement. As you're scanning for resources you can click the name on the screen and it creates a marker on the map. The Router is this game's version of a merger and splitter combined, it just works and I love it. There is a button which when you press it let's you move the UI around the screen. That's right, don't like the layout, just move it! Blueprints are available from the start.
Everything you see is destructible, that giant cut out mountain in the screenshots above is not a glitch or bad RNG, you can terraform to your heart's desire just as you would with Minecraft. Speaking of Minecraft, there is 3D moving water physics in this game. You can drain lakes, store it all in the cloud, and dump it wherever you need it. There are underground caves with various types of resources. The game also doesn't care for real-world physics when it comes to blocks so feel free to create floating platforms for min-maxing you factory layout. The trees and grass sway with the wind direction and so does the smoke from furnace stacks. There's lots of little details and a pretty good framerate
In this game the challenge comes from the environment unlike Satisfactory and Factorio where the native aliens are the threat. Temperature management and stormy weather will wear your buildings down... But there is also a setting to turn that kind of stuff off if it feels tedious.

This game is is a rough diamond. The gameplay is great, the factory building works really well and has lots of depth. It's very interesting to see a factory game where the world is completely modifiable and where fluids and temperatures are actually simulated and affect different mechanics.
HOWEVER - this game is in Early Access. I've encountered a couple of minor bugs that doesn't really annoy me much, but I am used to playing rougher Early Access games. I've also had a couple hard crashes, though the game auto saves often so not too much progress was lost. My biggest gripe is that there are lots of quality of life features currently missing from the game. I am sure they will be added in time, but if you want a fully polished experience, I would recommend holding off on buying the game. If you really enjoy factory builders, this game has very interesting mechanics that I haven't seen in any similar games.
