The story is somewhat lacking but this game is definitely more about the journey than the destination, the voice acting was also fantastic and comedic (in a good way) at times. It also has a very unique QOL progression system, not everything is at first apparent but the devs seem to have thought of pretty much everything you'd need, including an expansive crafting menu which leaves you always in wonder as to what am I going to unlock next, all in all this has quickly become one of my favourite survivals.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

A game where you play in a Black Mesa like facility as a scientist after a security breach. There are solgers clearing the facility out, anomalies and creatures who escaped, and portals into other dimensions. Pretty much the recipe for a chaotic, fun and clever multiplayer experience. I can’t even imagine the chaos with 6 other fellow scientists.
The game is made with incredibly a lot of love. Filled with references, jokes and crossovers. I found myself reading every e-mail, listening to every line of dialogue, and appreciating all the little details that made the facility as charming as it is. The game is incredibly immersive in my opinion.
The map is one massive interconnected facility. I got lost all the time, my friend was laughing at my poor sense of direction. 10/10. There is environmental story telling as you progress in the story, with enemies’ spawns and such.
The base building is great. You re use the furniture and cabinets from around the facility to build your base. You can as well craft barricades, traps, shelfs, etc. You pick a corner to make your home, it will be messy, minimalistic, and absolutely an OSHA violation. I love that you can just infinitely stack boxes, what lead to an insane storage system. Your base needs power. How do you supply it? Obviously, you connect plugboard into another plugboard until the whole base is a fire hazard, ready to break any moment. But that is how science works right?
We went in completely blind, not even knowing how long the game takes to complete. Every time it felt like the final area, we got send to a new place. I am pleasantly surprised by the length of the game. I must say some areas feel a bit emptier, but so many are just amazing to be in.
The game has few crossovers like one with “voices of the void” amazing side area for you to explore. And Core Keeper (what is one of my all-time favorite games). I felt like I am hallucinating when I entered the area, I didn’t know this is part of them game, until I saw the thing, and got mind blown.
Some things I didn’t like
The journal needs improvements. It’s hard to find what you are looking for. And when you get a prompt to look into your journal, it doesn’t even tell you where to look. Pressing “j” should automatically bring you to the entry.
Enemies become bullet sponges later on. You run out of ammo easily, until the very end where you don’t even bother picking it up.
The grind near end game was annoying.

For some reason or another (I think mostly because I kept restarting with new people) I got burnt out on the game and dropped it. I'm so glad I picked it back up recently, after about 100 hours my wife and I finished the game and it was some of the most satisfying gaming I've had in a long time. I caught myself quite a few times being amazed by how much game they backed in this little 2GB download. It is probably my new favorite survival crafting game of all time now. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tAfter 60+ hours of "RECOMMENDED" I will actually switch this to "NOT RECOMMENDED". It's a great game in many respects, but the massive problems I have with it just keep growing. Possible minor spoilers ahead.
A survival/crafting game with tons of exploration, shamelessly wrapped in Half-Life 1 aesthetics and atmosphere. Much less SCP than I expected even though it's clearly inspired by it. While its progression is linear, the options in crafting and the many more or less hidden paths makes me feel creative when I get through it.
My biggest gripes with the game are:
- It's just too big. It. Never. Ends. The little cramped areas of the first... 20-30 hours of the game are a puddle in an ocean compared to what's in store for you later on. And when you think you finally see what I mean, you don't. The absolute atrociously vast distances you have to travel late game... I don't understand why. What's the point? I mean, some of it looks gorgeous, sure, but it's like the game suddenly wants to be something else. It's like testing to see how much mind-boggling tedium a player can endure.
- Bullet sponge enemies. Increasingly tanky recolored variants of everything you've already met. Even the WOODEN CRATES take more to break, for crying out loud. Why?
- The "GATEPAL" data thing you carry is atrocious to use. I don't mind its very 90-esque art style, but navigating it is needlessly clumsy. Whenever you learn something new a notification shows in the corner telling you to press "J" to read more. But J only opens up the GATEPAL, it doesn't take you directly to what's new. And then you have to try to understand where to go, what category something is hiding. It's annoying enough for me to mostly not bother and I'm somebody who usually loves logs and backstory. Sometimes I get a notification with a name for something to find in the GATEPAL and I just can't for the life of me find it inside.
- Heavily SCP-inspired backdrop that mostly translates into "generic monster who wants you dead and is weak to certain damage types" + some things you only see through windows behind locked doors. So far, anyway. Not very mysterious. Still imposing and scary, for sure, but no lore depth. The hints at depth are usually "this is mysterious, what could it be". Or, "this thing is THIS but also THAT, wow, how strange". Ok, how did you come to that conclusion? What tests did you do? Anything? Tell me (or better yet, show me) some interesting in-world implications that aren't just contained within the text I'm reading. Connect SOME dots for me. Not all, but enough for my imagination to actually get a semblance of a compass. It's just "this is strange". Okay. That's not what made SCPs great. That said, through grinding and tedium you get to unlock more lore so I guess it might be hiding beyond horizons past which my patience just can't carry me.
- "This door cannot be opened from this side." I love the feeling of actually opening a door from the CORRECT side, which usually means I've unlocked a shortcut (less tedium), but sometimes the amount of one-way doors get ridiculous. It also often makes no story sense where doors can be unlocked only from the outside of some places. Why progressing through every area the "one right way" is so important either makes no sense to me. It's padding length and the game certainly doesn't need it. Quite the opposite.
Minor things...
- Some (?) vehicles have stronger engines going backwards than they do forwards. Braking and backing up reacts faster than accelerating forwards from having gone backwards. Trying to back up and then forward feels like wading in glue. I hate it. It feels so wrong. They're also individually confined to certain very small areas/roads and you can't take them with you beyond those. Every new vehicle needs a crafted item to "repair". Fun. Just run instead. They're just there for funny screenshots and the hilarity of getting stuck everywhere.
- You can't just glance at a thing, like a door or an item you want to pick up, and quickly interact with it. You'll see the prompt for interaction but if you're too fast, it won't register unless you spend a few more frames looking at it. It happens all the time when I play.
- Making a blueprint. You get "ideas" for new gadgets, but you'll have to complete a mini-game where you put the right parts into a blueprint to make the actual blueprint. It's a novel idea, but in the end it's just faster to randomly brute force guess whatever parts you need which makes the mini-game superfluous. It serves no purpose other than show you what's new - something a shiny outline could do just as well. Mini-game can be disabled in save settings though.
- The logs and lore often refer to things by their numerical representation instead of some suitable nickname. I can't remember any of those and the aforementioned GATEPAL makes it hard to follow along.

50 hours in I switched almost fully from "what's beyond that corner" to "sunk cost fallacy" drive. You could say that 50 hours is good value for the money and yeah sure, but this game has an ending. And I want to finish this. Ugh. If I find another stupid thing missing another stupid key thing that I need to backtrack all the way to my base to build (spoiler: I did many times after writing that), certainly missing 1 or 2 resources that I need to find beyond the massive oh-so-slow elevator, I will vomit.
I think what makes this such a sour experience for me is I've spent so much time into the game, it has had a fairly nice pacing, but at this point in the game I'm just done with tedium and I'm rewarded with the more and more tedium. Great (!!!) distances to travel back and forth, boring old hit-scan bullet sponge enemies, endless resource management. The further I get, the less I want to play it, but I want to know its conclusion. But. It. Never. Comes.
The game feels strongly like it's divided into episodes (some of them great), almost entirely disconnected from each other, apart from some resources you need to backtrack to get in order to progress. You reach some type of crescendo in one area, opening up that final door to a new area, and it's a bit like a new expansion for World of Warcraft where all you did previously becomes forgotten. Now you need to loot the New Things:tm: to build the New Gear:tm:. It's not that I CAN do that, I basically HAVE TO do that.
Diluted, the gameplay loop is this: Get to a new area. In the new area there is a new resource (you can sometimes harvest it, sometimes kill new enemies for it). Then there's the "final door" that mostly requires you to build something to unlock the passage to the next area. That something that you need to build requires the new resource along with a symbolic requirement of some old resource just to make the past parts of the game seem relevant. All the while making every mob and even every breakable box tankier, and every distance longer. Rinse, repeat. Some variations to PARTS of the formula here and there (like "invulnerable monster!" or the like).

Inventory size can be adjusted and blueprint mini-game disabled in the "sandbox settings" for your save, so that's nice. I ended up disabling the power outlet outage at night because ugh. Towards the very end I even disabled the fatigue/hunger/toilet needs (which I found kind of fun up until this point) because there's a limit to tedium and when the game wants to be sneaky Counter Strike then there's no place for it. I didn't like the mechanic of the carts so I basically just increased my inventory size instead. I still have to deal with weight, which I think is enough "management" for me. You still get so many different components from everything that you'll fill up your inventory in 5 minutes anyway so that's fun and rewarding (sarcasm).
Absolute kudos to the dev team for adding all those settings, but I wish I didn't feel an absolute need for them.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI'm normally one to avoid to playing new games and just constantly play the same things over and over again without ever really changing up my daily rotation of titles that was established long ago. Now when my dear ol' friend Sapply told me to buy the game during the steam summer sale, I was a bit skeptical in all due honesty, many-a-times have I purchased a game to just never play it again or I simply didn't enjoy it at all. But I said to myself: "Eh, why not?", and now I find myself with over 90 hours in less than a month's worth of time owning this game.
Already one of my favorite games ever released and it's frankly something I didn't think I would ever say about a game I bought not even 30 days ago. The game is charming beyond belief, the gameplay loop is one I could partake in for literal hours and not get bored, the entire premise of it is wonderful.
So many different ways in which I could compliment this game but god help I wouldn't be able to write them without making this an entire shakespearean play.
All in all, a masterpiece which deserves all the praise it's received.

We both had an amazing time playing this game and we love the way the map connects. There's so much to explore, so many different things you can craft, and the combat was fun. My husband isn't normally one that enjoys playing craft survival games for long but we've played this for 90+ hours with him insisting we play almost everyday of the week when we usually play games once a week. He was addicted! We started playing when they just added pets so that was a bonus for me as these pets are able to assist you in battles as well. The game was longer than expected and I was actually a bit sad when I realized I reached the end. We are both looking forward to the next update, hopefully we will find time to play it again soon!! 100% recommend if you're looking for a game to play with a friend or partner!\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I love the cohesiveness of all the different areas of the facility and portals. I love the originality of the plot- the storyline has so much depth. There's silly and goofy parts that keep the game light-hearted. Just when you think you're getting to the end... there is much, much more! This game also rewards being thorough and exploring the areas beyond just the mission areas. Similar themes to SCP which is very cool to hear about the lore and see their interactions in the game.
All in all:
