That said, this does not mean the game is bad. The developers are active and continuously updating the game. At the time of this review, they have already added numerous quality-of-life improvements, which shows their commitment to supporting the game.
One of my main concerns is that the game doesn't feel like a true idle game. I would describe it as roughly 50% idle and 50% active management. If you're looking for something that can mostly play itself, this may not be the game for you. Team compositions that work perfectly in one stage can suddenly become ineffective in another, forcing you to constantly rethink synergies and adjust your setup.
Fortunately, the community is very helpful and provides guides for progression. Without those guides, it can take quite a while to figure out certain strategies on your own.
Another aspect I didn't enjoy was the item RNG. Both item stats and effects are randomized, which can significantly impact your build. I often found myself spending more time optimizing equipment, skills, and team compositions than actually letting the game idle.
To finish the game, you'll generally need at least three different team compositions, which conveniently matches the game's limit of three saved setups. Personally, I wish the game allowed more team slots so players could experiment with additional builds. In my experience, one setup is used primarily for farming gear and resources, while the other two are tailored for specific encounters and progression requirements, particularly during later stages such as the "Doom" levels. Depending on the challenge, you'll frequently switch between compositions.
I also wish there was a speed modifier such as 2x game speed, as some battles can feel quite slow. 1) Very relaxing game that lets you play at your own pace. The Stele provides some good guidance on what to do if you want to progress... but at the base level as long as your parties are fighting you'll be making some form of progress.
2) Lots of various aspects you can use to grow your parties. Between the different legendary/mythic/set eguipment you can experiment with lots of different builds. Using the warehouse to help organize it all is a godsend (just dump all items in and let it kick out the lowest level copy of the item). There are also runes/sockets and all the various ways to buff your heroes and items like Forge, Bless, Inspire, etc. or even the Worshiper Golem. Lots of stuff to upgrade!
3) Fun to fight through the various maps... whether it's the base map, or fighting through the plethora of other maps like the explore maps for treasure, the sanctum maps, outland maps for other progression, there's a lot of maps to run through!
Cons:
1) Can be a bit confusing. The game has some suggested builds but the explanations are a bit lacking, and there are a lot of stats that you have to parse through to try and understand how things work.
2) Minor, but I really wish there was an option maybe to toggle between "percentage" and "numbers" or something for the stats button. It's nice to see what your heroes are doing using the stats button but only percentages is nice but not great.
The art is great, I play on mute so I can't speak to the audio.
Overall a very enjoyable game. Get it, play it casually and let it float in the corner. It's a fun game.
