He can't seem to form real connections with acquaintances or friends, and keeps everyone at a distance — a man who cannot trust other people, and whose distrust feeds directly into his fear and paranoia of the outside world. He relies on his telepathy to get to know people rather than trusting them.
Overall, the novel leans on philosophy and tries to make the reader see the world from the protagonist's perspective — specifically, how he places himself above other people simply because he can read their minds.
That said, the novel lacks meaningful character development until very close to the end. The true ending is unlocked by clicking your sister's forehead after playing your first playthrough. Judging by the CG gallery, the coworker is the only side character who gets a happy ending; everyone else reaches their own bad ending as a result of their own circumstances — the one exception being that the MC does actively push each of them toward suicide.
In the true ending, I understand that the protagonist needed to open the door, step outside, and learn to fully trust someone without reading their mind — to not see people as black and white. Still, I don't think Nyalra delivered a visual novel that truly stands out. The writing itself is strong, and I came away understanding the MC's perspective. The coworker's arc is a good example: one such as the MC, lost in his own elaborate thoughts, then it cuts to the mc's coworker simply wishing he could be free of his dead-end shop job, then cuts again to the MC suggesting to the coworker that he should rob a yakuza-run store — with nothing bridging how a quiet wish for freedom turns into a suggestion of robbery.
This pattern is captured well in one of the game's own visuals: the MC is depicted as a lighthouse at the center of a web, with each side character reduced to a small animal portrait caught in the strands around him — the coworker as a monkey, the senpai as a bat, the parents as a ring, the crush Botan as a fox, and the childhood friend as a caterpillar. You hover over each panel in as a spider UI with your mouse, which suits the MC perfectly: he never truly want to help each character due to how the progress of each short character's story eventually crack until broken; Botan spirals into suicide from the main character due to her devaluing her own self-worth by sex-dating older men and hides in a fanboy club that worships her like a queen; and the friend never escapes the confines of working for a company until he "flies free" by jumping off a building; and the coworker, who eventually died to consequences of the main character's suggestions to rob a yakuza office; and the senpai can never write a rookie published novel due to his insecurities and the inability to be genuine, drowning in a river nearby because the mc couldn't give him real critique; and mc's parents who eventually hate on each other until they kill one other due to them cheating on one other. In every case, it's the MC's mind-reading, not just his silence, that does the real damage — he talks each of them into their ending, his influence amplifying their despair until it tips into suicide, or in the parents' case, murder.
There's even an implication that his sister might be the MC himself, since the only voice he ever hears in his own head is hers, saying "Onii-chan." It almost reads like an autobiography of Nyalra, about learning to see the world as it actually is instead of filtering everyone through your assumptions without getting to know them. Not to mention, the protagonist realize that happy endings are not so bad after all in the true ending. Then, where the hell is my happy endings for each of the character in the second playthrough. Why only the coworker? Conclusion in the true ending does feel unsatisfactory due to how little time we get to spend with the sister.
Overall, this didn't meet up to my expectations. Pacing suffers because each character's arcs to resolve so abruptly without sufficient content to build those characters. Would I still recommend it? There were no branching choices during the first playthrough, 2nd playthrough had one . it's in no way a fault of the devs but I was mistaken on how this story was gonna go from seeing all the advertisements on twitter. I def was expecting more saya no uta vibes so if you wanted to play for something spooky like that it isn't the game for that.

None of that misery monologuing meant anything to me or made me interested enough to continue. You can play this game on auto, it's short and I thought oh we're going to get a story about overcoming abusive family, self reflection, there's hope for the main character and they'll be a point to all this. but, no... actually we're just going to murder every human connection we have. for literally no explainable reason other than being insecure and jealous. I was getting attached to the girlfriend character too and wow he "feels bad" after she was clearly struggling. If what you classify has a "dark story" is this then I can't agree. Let's be triggering to be triggering with no substance.

But, ultimately, this is a visual novel and should be judged on the storytelling. Every single character in this game is barely developed and weakly written, with the protagonist only being somewhat interesting as a POV character. Insufferable as he is, you easily get a sense of his view of the world and way of seeing things which at least remains entertaining. The overarching narrative remains weak, though.
In particular, the way the author writes character dialogue and the general prose leaves a lot of to be desired. Whether it's the protagonist, the little girl sister, or several of the other characters, conversations appear extremely stilted and unnatural, laden with writing that you'd expect from a 16 year old on Reddit trying to act as though they were a 500 IQ philosopher that loves namedropping all the classic works of art they've read as if it's a high-score. The prose does this too, and comes across very overwrought and pseudo-intellectual. Given what I've read from the author's blogs, it's hard to separate whether this is an attribute of the protagonist's mind or whether it's simply the writing style of the author. To me, it seems like a mixture of both, and the style really dulls my enjoyment of the story.
The most interesting part of the work, and the same thing with NSO, really, is that you can tell that the author's background of being an extremely terminally online otaku does genuinely lend them a deep understanding of modern and internet culture that very few other works are able to achieve. This is a novelty to read in itself, and the almost psychedelic style of the story creates a very unique-feeling experience. But this just isn't enough to make the story itself strong in any capacity, and nyalra's writing in a visual novel format feels genuinely in the wrong place.

also nobody in this game is a good person and almost eveyrone leans to the darker side of the gray zone
pretty vulgar game which should be expected given that the mc is a shut in depressed incel but most of it doesnt even come from him
will refrain from talking about the mc and sister relationship

Making the MC insufferable was a choice I was down with, but there's no real pay off.
He just says some mean things the whole game through and people kill themselves over it (or they do it in his imagination, who knows, but it doesn't make a real difference in the end). Really wished there was more of a twist to it. A meta aspect could have been interesting as well. I thought there was something like this because of the superzooming into the sister's eyes-scene in the trailer, but there's nothing.

I was honestly a bit sad when I heard this game wouldn't be following a classic imouto game's format, but trusting Nyalra and his amazing writing, as well as the artstyle being cute in my opinion, I gave it a chance and it definitely delivered.

The music is great with each track fitting with each scene and character. The sound effects are also good.
The artistic visuals side of the game are great, and the symbolism is superb, though there isn't without fault. Some scenes are definitely drawn to be overdramatic, and some design decisions feel like they are put there for the shock value. One minor gripe I have is that the game puts in more realistic visuals as the backdrop, and at a couple of those moments, it feels a little non-immersive and uncanny, though it may be me not being used to it.
The story, most importantly, is decent; it took me a little bit to actually get invested. There's definitely certain moments that feel overly forced with no buildup. There's other moments that left me questioning design choices,like there being only one other character (other than the sister) that can have a non-true good ending with the protagonist. Why are they special-cased?
The cast of characters is fairly interesting as they are based on real-world tropes, though each character is still distinct from one another as they have different motivations and other of the likes. It's fascinating to see the protagonist's perspective on the other characters and what he thinks about each of them, especially if you have a differing worldview.
The game is also quite short in completion length, being just 2-4 hours at most. It's both good and bad; to highlight the bad, there's not enough time to really develop the characters in a way that a reader may truly understand them. It's hard to be attached when given so little time unless you really relate to a character in some way; this is especially apparent for the sister character, whom the protagonist values a lot. On the other side, it's great to finish in one sitting.
Side note, in the English localization of the game, there are also the occasional cases of modern day terms being used. I say this because it really was a mental flashbang for me, seeing stuff like Discord or rizz. I'm not saying it's a bad thing; it just threw me out of the loop for a moment with how "modern" those terms are.
Overall, the game is good. It may not satisfy the expectations of most readers, but for what it's worth, considering its completion length, it succeeds in what it wants to show and tell, especially if you're not used to this type of reading. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tMy all time favorite games to play are Mystery Adventures, so Sister Other Paranoia's Psychological Horror, Dark, & dissection of Social Dynamic elements drove me to it. I played the Discord Demo and it was so fun that I actually ended up making a Demo Review for the first time in a while. Note: A Developer told me it's a surprise if the Demo is actually the first second of the game (my question to them). Awesome.
One reason I'm very ecstatic to Let's Play this today is 'cause I was pleasantly surprised to learn in the Demo that the Protagonist isn't just a chronic moper, crying in his sisters arms all day while annoying killing people LOL. I legit imagined the worst version possible of this character. I'll list some things I like about him, but I also love the Co-Worker you play with, and the Sister seems nice, but she obviously looks creepy, no matter how cute, so that's the most I can say, and know nothing else. Warning: there's a fair chance he may end up ass, do not chuck bricks at me lol. I'm just speaking that he seems to have some layers that make him not boring, yet.
Ambitions - He actually has goals, ambitions, and talents that seemingly (unless he was dreaming and wakes up later as some twist idk lol) put him above others in his Social Circles. He understands that, long-term, our surroundings, and people, reflect us. He wants to succeed, and even went on a date in the Demo, giving the girl a fair chance despite his cynic nature. Idm sister tropes, but I'm glad he doesn't seem to be a one note guy, only about her, for now.
Awareness - This will lead into my 3rd point, but he understands Social Dynamics well. For ex., a guy who is popular with woman, and is mature, is less likely to spend his time gloating about it. It's his life, and he knows it's something people can identify on their own. He understands all the annoying Twitter types too. But, it is because he spent so much on this early on that I feared he'd be a boring incel. This will, potentially anyway, be interesting to observe, because irl, while people can exhibit traits from archetypes, you gotta be careful viewing things too mathematical. Doing that can result in gaslighting yourself, and others, when sometimes people do things randomly out of emotion. Maybe you wanna go buy candy, then decide you don't want sugar today. It's wrong for someone to assume you've got an attitude because of it. Maybe a handsome play, who does get welcome, gloats to make up for something, ect. I get there are mundane aspects of society, but being ruled by pessimism doesn't make you better.
Power 1/2 - of them, unless he is insane (I can't tell lol) can read Minds. I find this especially interesting, because a lot of people CAN'T handle that power. An ex., I mention in my Review is, let's say you barf and it lands on your toothbrush. Your Wife might look at it and 5% of her could feel "ew" but 95% is concerned. This is how people's minds work, and guess what? The Protagonist GETS THIS, which means I can raise my expectation of how he navigates these layers, then going "OOH?? THEY DON'T LIKE ME?? DIE!!!"
Power 2/2 - Which leads to his other ability, he can, apparently, make heads explode. This combines with prior bullets, because he really does make an effort to go on a date for ex. He wonders if maybe he's too judegy, if he's overthinking, and the girl he meets up with his surprisingly perceptive. Her thoughts aren't 100% pure, and he knows this, yet tries to be realistic despite his condition.
Will he ruin it? Will she eventually think something unforgivable that makes him murderous? Will his sister, while seeming to be a phenomenal, genius influence, actually be the one who tries to bring him back down, despite being his biggest supporter? Is she even real? Is he? Idk LOL, but it's just one of those games where you feel like there's some bigger picture, with zero proof.

I like to play games I can dissect (Psychological games are perfect 'cause they often involve relationship layers), grasp a world's logic, and clown around with, so even if he ruins his life I think the game's themes, at minimum, make for fun jokes. I like theorizing if he even has the powers he claims, and if so, who else has one?. If the game ends up horrible, I'll flip this to Negative, and detail exactly why I think so. For now, I can see why the Creator has a great reputation, as someone who hasn't played Needy Streamer Overload (maybe I will after this) My playthrough I'll binge is here.
